Nederlands naar perfectie is een totaalmethode Nederlands voor hoogopgeleide anderstaligen. De uitgave brengt cursisten van niveau B2 naar niveau C1. De acht hoofdstukken zijn opgezet rond een breed scala aan wetenschappelijke thema’s.

Naast de vaardigheden lezen, luisteren, schrijven en spreken is er veel aandacht voor uitbreiding van de woordenschat. Cursisten maken kennis met de finesses van de taal en met typisch academisch taalgebruik. De focus ligt op populairwetenschappelijke teksten en beeldfragmenten, maar daarnaast biedt de uitgave ook opdrachten bij sketches, liedjes en columns, om het geheel te verluchtigen. Enkele lastige grammaticakwesties worden nog eens herhaald. Verder vinden cursisten in Nederlands naar perfectie veel mogelijkheden om taalvaardiger te worden binnen de context van studie en carrière, zoals bij het houden van een presentatie of het schrijven van een betoog.

Bij het boek hoort een uitgebreide website met beeld- en audiofragmenten, woordenlijsten en oefeningen voor woordenschat, grammatica, preposities en uitspraak. Voor docenten is een digitale docentenhandleiding met tips en suggesties beschikbaar.

Nah, one of those study books that you use because there is no other option. You don't have that many books that help you learn Dutch.
It offers you a course from B2 to C1 although I have not really felt that, other than coming across words that no one uses. Another negative factor is that it does not help you to understand grammar at all. It gives you a robust amount of text that you can read, translate as you wish, and the texts are usually accompanied with exercises which mostly make no sense. Sometimes the exercises take you to websites with video recordings from 20 years ago (????) to practice the listening part of the learning curve. How to practice speaking? Well, some exercises clearly state that you need to work with your partner in the classroom so if you are using this book alone, it is not very helpful.

On the plus side, if you want to understand the culture of Dutch a little bit more, it will give you some extra insight.

All in all, I would never recommend it to anyone but I don't think that you have other options if you want to learn the language, duh...

And thus ends my last Dutch language course in university. It was a fun ride. I'm going to miss you.
(My critique from the last book still applies, but it's a pretty good coursebook overall.)
