"The phone rang. Boston-Wright almost jumped out of her skin, She sat up in bed, startled, trying to work out if the house phone was really ringing or if she was just dreaming. She rubbed her eyes hard, shook her head and threw back the covers as she raced into the lounge, fumbling for the light switch. "Hello?" There was no answer. Just silence."........

Cabarita Beach is a tourist town on the north coast of South Wales, Australia. In the 8th book in the "Cabarita Crime Series," we find Detective Jack Creed on the hunt for a serial killer.

High profile and fitting other murders that have taken place over the last ten years, Jack is feeling the pressure to solve the latest one, if not all of them. Handcuffed and charred bodies are making everyone terrified of who might be committing these brutal murders.

Jack's pressure is doubled when a woman detective, Jo Boston-Wright, tries to make a name for herself. When she actually becomes useful to Jack, the road to the killers identity becomes clearer. Can the killer be caught, or will he get away with another murder?

Jack is a great character, well written. He's got a lot on his hands and his own issues to deal with. He's at times not only up against a detective with no experience, the public, his command and the actual killer. Complicated or not, Jack is determined to solve this case, and so is Jo. Hard on her trying to fit into the "boys club" at the station.

I love police procedural books, and this one was no exception. Action, fast paced, with a page turning story line that you won't want to put down until the very end!

Thank you C.T. Mitchell.

First Impression: This being my first E-Book review I was a bit sceptical about the Kindle as I really enjoy an actual book, but I ended up happy on both accounts as I enjoyed reading on the Kindle and this was the perfect book to introduce me to the style of reading.

Summary Of The Book:

This is a detective novel, the detective in question is Jack Creed. A seasoned cop who heads up the Murder Squad in New South Wales, Australia. Creed has his hands full with an investigation into a possible serial murder case, there are a few similarities to each case but the most recent murder sends the team on a wider search for the killer.

Enter Boston-Wright, she is trying to make a name for herself and avoid letting down her father's awesome reputation. Boston-Wright doesn't know much about murder, but a few days with Creed and she is an expert. This duo along with the help of their team set out on the trail of a killer who has evaded all police efforts so far, but with bodies piling up the picture becomes clearer.

Come and enjoy this dedicated crime thriller, there are twists and turns, gore and mainly a well written plot that takes you around parts of Australia and builds enough suspense and interest to take you all the way to its conclusion.

My Review:

Breaking Point was new ground for me. An E-Book is not traditionally my preferred format but I ventured into new territory alongside this mini-novel. Breaking Point isn't a game changer, it is a solid but very familiar effort. The plot was well devised, much like an episode of criminal minds or something of that calibre. The characters were stereotypical but I found that along the storyline they followed and their interactions together kept it interesting enough for me to get invested in their presence here.

Creed is a typical hard cop who is fed up of the pain and suffering of the innocent whilst the guilty run free. Creed is split nicely between giving a crap about his team and giving his team plenty of crap. Boston-Wright's role hasn't been done a thousand times like Creed's but it is still familiar, but I feel the time spent with her was one of the more positive aspects of this book. The time we spend inside her head looking at the team and the crime from a fresh perspective adds plenty to the book. Though I really didn't want to know what she was having for breakfast, lunch and dinner, I thought this was rather random and that the author may have wanted to write a cook-book on the side. It did make me hungry quite a bit...

Overall there isn't much new here, I enjoyed the setting of Australia, the team has decent chemistry and the plot was solid enough with a standard but satisfying ending. I will be checking out other Creed material when I get a chance.

6/10

I liked that this mystery/thriller was set in Australia. It was interesting to read the Aussie words and phrases. I enjoyed the suspenseful elements towards the end and the twist. The author provided me with a complimentary copy of this ebook.

Couldn't put it down, had to find out who done it!

A good murder mystery, and I appreciated a lot of the careful aspects. The murders themselves were gruesome, but the author didn't make me ill with details.

To me this book was a comfortable length, but I do feel the murders could have been solved in less time than was reported without changing the length of the book. Periodically it would be mentioned that two weeks had passed, obviously nothing new had been discovered, but it could have as easily been reported as a day or two. The time frame took some of the drama and pacing out of it for me.

I especially liked the two female officers friendship, a good professional working relationship, not a couple of cats with claws out! As a woman I appreciated that. Of course the men are mostly jerks most of the time, but they had some good moments too.

This book could stand another pass at editing, there are a few typos, names got mixed up, nothing major. I agree with another reviewer that Bishop-Wright's name is mentioned too many times. Just refer to her using personal pronouns, call her BW, or Jo.

I loved the book. Couldn't stop reading it. The story was good with a strong build up of suspense and sense of urgency to catch the killer. All clues pointed to Talbot yet enough things didn't add up to keep us looking and thinking - did he or didn't he. Jack Creed is a likeable character with lots of gut experience. Jo is a young, smart police officer with a fair amount of common sense although we had to holler at her a few times. She shows lots of promise and I look forward to reading more cases in their partnership.

I tend to nit pick and at times found myself yelling at the book. Once I re-familiarized myself with turns of phrases from “Down Under’ and just read the story as is, I enjoyed it very much. I was sure they would find the murderer, no matter who that person was. But, I did have to keep revising my opinion of who dun it! I was also able to feel for Jo Boston-Wright as she became absorbed in the all male group. I recommend this book to mystery lovers.

My first Jack Creed story, and certainly not my last. C.T. Mitchell's characters are well developed and very believable. The story of a possible serial killer in Australia has an excellent hook and once it is set, putting this book down is a very hard thing to do.

If you are looking for a whodunit that will keep you guessing until the end, give Breaking point a read.

Good read

Although this was a great book, there were many misspelled words. I liked the expLanation of characters and the fact that they were not sleeping together, which a lot of writers tend to do with the main characters.
