Moving the Chains #1

First and Goal

Rate this book
Eva Papageorgiou has one goal: to make it through her senior year of high school unseen and unscathed. But when her strategy to stay out of the limelight is derailed by rampant rumors, she’s forced to change tactics. Her new game plan is to keep everyone at arm’s length. Especially boys. So when she’s partnered up in class with the hot as hell varsity quarterback, she pushes and pushes.

Until he pushes back.

Rob Falls just wants to fit in. With his teammates, with his friends, with everyone. His image as the quintessential jock makes him feel like a fraud. Especially since it’s the only reason all the girls at school want him, except the one girl he dreams about. She wants nothing to do with him. When he’s forced to tutor the class pariah, he realizes it’s time to get in the game instead of standing on the sidelines.

She’s going to help him get exactly what he wants, whether she knows it or not.

Life doesn’t come with a playbook, but Rob knows this could be the most important play he’ll ever make.

First and Goal is book one in The Moving the Chains series. It ends on a cliffhanger.

As much as I've spent the last three years wanting Evie, it kind of scares the shit out of me to realize how low I'll go to get her. I'll take anything she might give me and work as hard as I have to in order to get it.

For a brand new author, I have to say that I was impressed. I kept seeing this book being mentioned on Facebook and Goodreads and decided I needed to see what the buzz was all about. This is YA, and while I can appreciate a good YA, it’s not my typical “Go To” genre. The teenage angst is off the charts high in this one, but the Hero is certainly lovable enough that he kept me engaged in the story.

Eva and Rob are seniors at the same high school. They have known each other since the 9th grade but over the past few years, a distance developed between them. Both harbor huge crushes on each other but they are equally oblivious to that fact. Eva is an honor’s student and drum major, she thinks of herself as a geek, but to Rob, she is the most beautiful girl he’s ever seen. Eva and Rob end up in a lot of the same classes since they both are honor students. Rob ends up being her calculus tutor when she fails the first quiz of the semester and their teacher orders him to tutor Eva to help pick her grade back up. This seems to be the last thing Eva wants. She has a huge chip on her shoulder and doesn’t hesitate to lash out at Rob. She went out with one of the members of his football team and things ended badly. The guy spread rumors about Eva being supremely easy and ever since she’s been branded the school slut. Her trust level of the opposite sex is at an all-time low because of her predicament.

Rob Falls is the Quarterback of the High School’s football team. He’s the most popular and most desired boy by all the girls in school. But Rob has only ever had eyes for Eva. He hasn’t dated anyone since he transferred from his catholic school back in the ninth grade. He’s been secretly pining away for Eva and hoping to get his shot with her. Unfortunately, rumors start spreading about Rob being a ladies man and he does nothing to stop them because they end up giving him more street cred with his other teammates. His reputation has Eva seeing Rob as a player and someone she needs to avoid. How ironic that the girl who is falsely accused of being a slut could so easily believe rumors about someone else and then treat them badly because of said rumors!! For this reason, I didn’t care for Eva for almost the entire book.

These two end up as partners in biology class and their first project is called the bio-effect. Boys and girls are paired up and have to ask a series of questions, and some of them are very personal. Rob and Eva get off to a very rocky start in the beginning and I would place all the blame on Eva and the humungous chip on her shoulder. Rob noticed how she changed after she dated his teammate for a short while and suspects that she was raped and even when he confronts her about it and she denies it, he still believes there’s something more to what happened between them.

I was starting to get beyond frustrated with both characters and was beginning to think that maybe I am just too old to relate to the trials and tribulations of today’s teenagers, but then BAM , that ENDING!!! Totally not what I was expecting to happen, AT ALL!! And now the author has me sucked in because I just have to know what happens next.

First and Goal

Rob has been in love with Evie forever, since freshman year and some part of me was proud to see a male hero who was a virgin because let's be honest, it's so damn rare.

The first chapter shows us how they met and overall he's a shy, handsome, tall guy.

The next chapter hops onto senior year. It has alternating POVs from Evie to Rob.

Evie annoyed me. I hated her. She was the biggest self-sympathising boo-hoo b*tch I've ever had the displeasure of encountering. She claims to have been severely bullied in chapter one, yet she's popular with a bunch of friends and apart of the main group. She thinks she's 'average', yet a ton of guys hit on her and give her constant validation that she's so beautiful and continuously the talk of the locker room yet she claims they are lying or think she's 'easy'.

Evie had a bad experience with a guy named Eddie the year before and the story wasn't even expanded on. Rob asks her continuously and she brushes him off like her secret mystery makes her appealing. It was never explained whether or not she was violated or abused and it should of. Her behaviour and reactions would have been much better understood. So stupid.

Rob shows her continuously how in love with her he is, to the point it was frigging bait and a snore of a read. She's beautiful blah blah blah. About 500 pages worth of bullshit where he's doing everything he can to show Evie he loves her but instead she thinks he likes some other 'Dream Girl' and she would be jealous of him spending time with her. It was so annoying that I started to skim read. It was such a long book for no reason other than her doing the 'I have no idea how amazing I am, he seriously likes me?' routine. She had a stick up her ass and was rude. She didn't deserve him.

Half the time she was disgustingly immature and rude to him because she hates him for no good reason. The other half she was stupid and moronic and I was bored. Apparently she liked him all along but didn't know if he liked her back, and was jealous of a date he went on with one girl last year so she hated him despite the fact she had a boyfriend (even if he was an asshole and did something to her which we don't know about). It was almost like he could sky-write he loves her with his fart and she still wouldn't believe him. Ridiculous.

This story has cliff hanger bait. Rubbish bore of a storyline completely stretched out the entire way until the last chapter which was explosive.

I am not usually a fan of Young Adult (YA) but I needed to mix up my reading a bit and I was lucky enough to score an ARC of First and Goal.

Rob and Evie meet the first day of freshman year in a super-cute sort of fashion. They both are AP students and end up in the same classes. Press fast forward to senior year where they are matched up as bio partners.

Here’s the rub…they have both been pining for each other since that fateful day back during freshman year. But both have become different people and can’t see what’s truly right in front of them. Thankfully, they start to see each other in a different light and you too, will fall in love with Rob.

What I liked the most about First and Goal was that it dealt with true issues that shouldn’t be dismissed. I think the author did a fabulous job executing the issues that surrounded Evie and how Rob was able to break down some of those concrete walls that Evie erected around her heart. I like how the story showed that not everything you hear about another person is true and that gossip can really be the fodder for so many lies and misgivings. And truth be told, Rob was so incredibly sweet and makes my heart do that pitter patter thing it does. The only drawback was that I wish Evie would have come to her senses a bit sooner with Rob. At times I sort of wanted to yell at her and tell her she has the most amazing man RIGHT IN FRONT OF HER!!! But I digress…

Truth be told, I can’t fathom that this is Kata Cuic’s first novel, this book does not read like a debut novel. Her writing is top-notch and has you hanging on until the last word.

I am glad I decided to go outside the box and read this novel, I wouldn’t have found this sweet, charming, and fun one!

Lastly, I must warn you…there is a bit of a cliffhanger and I hope the second one is out soon!

3.75 SUPER angst stars

I was looking for a cute little YA read and what I got was a lot of teen angst. Angst isn’t really my thing, but I wanted to finish the book to see if the main characters finally figured out their shit.

Look, I’m all for strong Heroines, but Eva was a bitch until the 40% mark. It was a long 40% to read how mean and nasty she was to Rob. I felt like her actions were justified. Rob didn’t do anything to her, but exist as a jock.

The book started out cute when Eva and Rob first meet and I wished I got a little backstory to why Eva was so horrible to Rob. I finally got the answer, but it really wasn’t a good excuse in my book. The book is also very repetitive.

If I read one more time Eva telling Rob not to get into her pants I wanted to punch the girl in the face and scream, He doesn’t want to have sex with you! Good grief she annoyed the fuck out of me.

I truly enjoyed Rob’s character, although he frustrated me a lot in the second half of the book. Like I said a lot of angst! You know the kind of plot that could be cleared up if the two main characters just had a quick convo?

I do like that the book was more dialogued based because that is more of my jam and it was easy to understand. I also liked the side characters, even though Alex annoyed me and his book is next.

I won’t rule out another Kata book, but if she write angst, I may have to move on to another author.

It’s hard to believe this is the first book from Kata Cuic. First and Goal is an engaging and heartfelt look at teenage life.

All is not what meets the eye when it comes to Rob and Eva. Both have put up shields to protect themselves over the past year, and this book takes us on their journey as they learn to let those shields down and share who they really are with each other. Rob is the most transparent and I really enjoyed being in his head, seeing his deep-rooted and long held feelings for Eva. I don’t feel like we really got to know Eva as well, other than her snarkiness and blatant rudeness to Rob. Honestly, I had a hard time with her character through the majority of the book. Enough was enough when it came to her bitchiness, and there was a point I almost put this book down. It seems as if there’s a very big piece of her story that is missing, something other than what we’ve been shown, to cause her to act like she has. I think we got a small glimpse at what it could be at one point, but it was never really expounded on and I can only hope we’ll get the full story in the next book.

Rob is such a darling of a character, what teenage girl wouldn’t be swooning all over him- and not just for his body! I would have loved it if he had come clean to Eva about his feelings for her much sooner than he did. When Eva let her guard down with him she wasa very likable character. I really enjoyed their banter, their give and take, and how comfortable they were with each other. I think they are such a sweet couple and I wish there had been more time with them as an actual couple before the book ended. And what an ending that was!

Ladies and gentlemen, we have a new book boyfriend and his name is Rob Falls.
Hands off girls and boys. I’m not sharing this one with you. Well, I have to share him with Evie because of reasons but you know what I mean.

Rob Falls has all the makings of an amazing boyfriend:

Hot: Check!
Smart: Check!
Fun: Check!
Sweet: Check
High School quarterback: Check!
Huge Co... err conversation skills (yeah, lets go with that): Check!

And yet Rob is not like any other jock you ever read about. Rob has layers and more layers and he hides it all so well among the popular kids, between the jocks and the cheerleaders but all that is just a cover. Or is it? All the girls want him, except the one he wants.

Eva is not the same girl she was when she started HS three years ago. She is not the same girls she was last year either. Not after all the rumors. She has her reasons and no one really knows them. Luckily she has band to keep her busy. When she gets partnered with Rob, everything she thinks she knows is turned upside down.

This book will make you laugh out loud and want to smack a person or two. I'm not naming names. You read and figure it out.

It ends on a heart pounding, mind-blowing cliffhanger. Hanging on tight. Can’t wait for the next one.

i haven't written a review in a long time. so here goes:

i know i know i should not read books that haven’t been reviewed by a ton of people! i never learn! anyway. this was good. i was in love when i started but as the story progressed, i became disenchanted with the characters and the CONSTANT internal monologuing. every single chapter is just paragraphs of rob and evie thinking. there’s no real character development and the ending forced me to continue a series i really had no intention of finishing. spoiler: no HEA.

sorry for the rant. books like this have a tendency to be enjoyable in the start and just get worse as the plot progresses (or worse, it doesn’t progress at all.) anyways bye

I was very kindly gifted an arc by the author and boy am I glad she did. Reading the blurb I thought this book would be a bit young for me but I was wrong. Kata's writing style is so honest and believable and she portrays the high school seniors brilliantly. The story is the a great mix of romance, angst and humour and I loved it from beginning to end. I can't wait for book two. Everyone needs Kata Cuic on their radar, great novel from a fantastic debut author.

A six book series and the first four books focus on Evie and Superjock's story that also introduces characters who'll get their stories told in the last two books. I will do one review to cover books 1-4 after completing the first couple's story.

Oh, man. Where to start with this new brand spanking new debut author? Well, how about the first book in her series, First and Goal. Y'all. Y'ALL. Stop what you are doing and buy this book? Yes, please. because you all need Rob Falls in your life. He's the epitome of a book boyfriend. He's sweet. Has a heart of gold, and crushes all of those dumb jock stereotypes.

Here's the thing. Rob has been crushing on Evie, a fellow student, since the 9th grade. Something about her gets to him. Flash forward to senior year and yep, he's still crushing. But each of them, Rob and Evie are different from their freshmen selves. They've grown up. In Evie's case she's put walls of brick, concrete, and barbed wire around her heart. But when you find out why, you can't really blame her. Rob has started to play into the stupid jock role, because he's mad. He thinks he's missed his shot with the girl of his dreams. When these two get paired up in biology, for a really cool project, we know that there is more than sparks flying between these two.

As their story unfolds, we get to know more about these two fragile people. The emotion in this book is going to hit you in the mother effing feels. Right in the heart. Because it's real, raw emotion that pours out of these pages and into your soul. As I'm typing this, I'm struggling to keep the tears at bay.

Finally when everything seems to get on track for Rob and Evie. Maybe they will make it, but that ending. Man on man. Now, if cliffhangers aren't your thing, wait until the next book comes out. Because this is a dozy. And my feelings on Alex, Rob's best friend, will forever be changed because of that ending.

Kata Cuic is a rising star. She's an author that writes about real people, real emotions, and pushes you to get to know the deeper feelings of all of her characters. Her words are beautiful and as I read each one, I want to know more. I want to know about these people that she has created, because they now feel real. Like friends. Like people I've met on the street. So, do yourself a favor and check out this book. It's amazing, gut wrenching, but so amazing and on point.

So here's the deal-io folks...

I'm DNF'ing at 30%, life is too short. I was committed, even with Evie being a major self righteous bio-tch. I disliked her strongly, she did not deserves our wonderful Hero Rob. Even when he would call her out on her BS, she would just look pissed so he would apologize and freak out because he loves her and has for years and he's shy. Practical maneater. I was all set for some great character development, for the relationship to blossom, all that good stuff.

But then I fell down the rabbit hole of looking at books on amazon, and noticed that the second book is also about Rob and Evie. So I read some reviews. And then I saw that there is a third book, also about Rob and Evie. So I read some reviews on that one too. And then I saw the fourth book is about Rob and Evie. So what did I do? I read some reviews. And lord help me y'all, I am not committing to 4 books worth of Evie BS and the ruining of Rob's character. I do not stand for subsequent books just to ruin and add more drama to a character's journey. Nope, nada, bazinga, I'm done. I'm getting out while I still can.

RUNNNNING AWAY.

This YA romance was an amazing read. You are vested from the first page. Rob is so sweet, shy and kinda geeky for a football player but that's what made him so endearing. Evie, had a wall up like Fort Knox and to watch it be chipped away piece by piece melted my heart. You won't want to put it down and the ending will have you wanting for more. I was given this arc from a new to me author and I'm so lucky to have been introduced to and look forward to reading more of her work. Highly recommend reading this book!

I really enjoyed this book up until the cliffhanger, which I felt was out of the blue and changed the tone of the book for me. This book would have gotten a higher rating if it wasn't for the ending. Nevertheless, I still liked this book and would still read the sequel when it comes out.

**** ARC kindly provided by the author for an honest review. ****

I don't think a 5 stars rating will do justice to this amazing story, to explain how much I flowed and lived this book! 6, 7 stars? Definitely a thousand ones!
Evie and Rob's story was EVERYTHING! Kata Cuic is an author to follow and to stalk, because guys this book was freaking brilliant, depiciting young adults minds with a disconcerting reality, at the age when you're stuck being a teen but needing to move forward, to be a grown up.
I laughed, I swooned and I almost cried!

As you might guess, it's just my thoughts after finishing this book. It's 2.30am and I have a book hangover. Really blew my mind.
Bloody hell, full review to come!

And I need a drink ...

ReviewBlog

First and Goal was an impressive and intriguing first novel, depicting young adults thoughts with a disconcerting reality.
This book a great self reflection of youth’s lives through their aspirations, deceptions and where appearances were deceiving, putting into an act to fit into society.

At this time of your life when you got all of your firsts; from the good and the bad, I almost wanted to be again in this time of my life, with this constant thrill and butterflies, when anything could happen and the road of possibilities wide open.

But in this jungle of conflicted and misunderstood feelings, we’ve got the story of Eva and Rob. Two opposites. One was invisible and trying to survived to this last year without being noticed and the other, a popular jock with couldn’t be fully himself, with all the girls around wanting a piece of him.

I was hooked from the first page and I knew that I was going for the long haul. Damn this book was so brilliantly orchestrated from the choices of the title chapters, to the characters and the storyline, a freaking roller coaster frustrating at time the shit out of me, creating an incredible mood.

I was on the edge all along the story, walking on this thick line, rooting for Rob and Evie.
Two beautiful souls, with so much love to give.
I loved how these two connect, so natural, a little bit of sweetness, bluntness, and an incredible chemistry. I enjoyed every moment, so close to my heart. I was feeling each moment, from laughter to sadness, with this constant twinge. They gave me freaking butterflies to my stomach, making me smile so much.

For a first novel, Kata Čuić’s writing goes straight to the heart. This review is just a glimpse of how much I flowed and adored this book. Heartwarming and gut wrenching at the same time, First and Goal will stay on my mind and on my heart for a long time.

By the time I finished writing my review, I was thinking about re reading it, and to be overwhelmed once again by these rush of emotions. A stunning ending for a fabulous story! Just to let you know, there's a freaking cliffhanger!!!
A must read!

5+ STARS!!!
"She's going to be the most complicated play of my life, but the most worthwhile if I can pull it off."

I don't know where to start with this review for First and Goal because my mind is still living in this fictional world (I just wanted to climb inside this book and leave reality behind) and reeling from the heartstopping ending (I will be stalking the author like crazy for the next book!)!! I can't believe this is the authors debut novel because it is absolutely written like a seasoned pro., it consumed me completely (mind, heart, and soul), it dominated my mind even when I wasn't reading (didn't want to do anything but read this book), I wanted to read, read, read, but at the same time didn't want it to end...gah, LOVED it so much!

"Step one: start addressing her as my girl until it sinks in that she is actually the woman of my dreams."

I couldn't get enough of Rob Falls, Eva Papageorgiou, and their circle of friends. Rob and Eva's push and pull against one another, against school rumors, against each of their secrets...the slow build was the best sweet torture to my heart and book loving soul EVER!! This story took my emotions on a rollercoaster of ups and downs, highs and lows, laughs and tears, and felt like I was a teenager again living through it all right along with these great characters!

"Your smile lights up a room. Your laughter is my favorite song. You always look me in the eye when you talk to me. You're one of my best friends."
"....but you already have my heart. You always have."

I know some will shy away from reading First and Goal because of the cliffhanger ending but I want to encourage all readers that considering reading to PLEASE one click and read this amazing book! I'm not a fan of cliffhangers myself but am soooo happy that I took a chance and didn't let that deter me because I have found a new talented author to stalk and an unforgettable book that will always be a top favorite!!!

I was so lucky and fortunate that I got this arc from the author through a blogger friend of mine. Thank you!

I finished First and Goal four hours ago while I was on a quiet night shift. I'm still thinking about this fabulous story from Kata Čuić, as I sit her writing this review, and it's her debut none the less. I wouldn't have thought since her writing felt effortless and confident. Her words jumped off the page with such ease and I was captured. First and Goal was intriguing, filled with strong flawed characters who had an important story to tell. I was invested in Rob and Evie from the first page. I really liked how Čuić chose to tell their story which began from their first meeting freshman year. It made their connection and friendship believable and real. So was the story. It was relatable and the whole high school environment authentic which added drama to the story.

I seriously loved Rob and his shyness but most definitely also his patience and respect towards Evie. He was the sweetest guy with a big heart and a bright head on his shoulders.
Evie just like Rob was a great character. She had her guard up against everyone but with reason. She was loyal to the people she trusted. I loved and enjoyed how they went from hating each other to being friends. It was a roller coaster ride of emotions and I felt them all.

Kata Čuić got herself a fan for life. Her writing was flawless, funny and clever. It kept me on my toes and when I reached the final page I wanted more. So more from these characters. Her debut was a home run and I can't wait to see what she has in store for her next books. Now I'm patiently waiting.

I was given a copy by the author in exchange for an honest review.

I just finished First and Goal but I'm in such a shock I've that ending that I'm unsure if i can give a proper review. My vision keeps blurring as I write this.

At first I couldn't stand Evie. She was such a bitch. There was absolutely no excuse for the way she acted and I almost stopped reading because of it. We can all be a bitch at times but she took it to the next level. But as the story goes on, she calmed down and I started to like her. I really like Rob though. He is the star quarter back of the football team and such a big teddy bear. His adoration for Evie took my breath away. I love their banter and their conversations. I really enjoyed watching them get to know each other and though it took them both way too long to realize certain feelings:-* wanted to smack them both upside their heads so bad, I was full of the giggles when it finally happened. And then that ending *sobs*

If you hate cliffhangers especially the kind that make you cry uncontrollably, then you may want to wait until the sequel releases in a few months to read this.

Overall, I really enjoyed reading First and Goal. I love Kata's writing style, and I can't wait to read more from her.

3.5. Good story and even though the writing detracted from it I would definitely recommend this book. The overall series is bump worthy (move it up your TBR list!). I read the series in three days so regardless how I felt about book one I was obviously pulled into this world of angst!! Each book pulls you further into their world , the emotion palpable. The author fully coming into her own with each installment.

Wow I did not expect this book to be as good as it was but WTH was that ending? Amazon is so torturous with letting you download the first book in a series that’s totally going to get you hooked and then you have to buy all the other books in the series. I really like Evie but she’s a little annoying, like I think Rob was pretty obvious. But Rob, oh I love me some Rob! His mom is also the cutest and same with Evie’s grandparents. Overall great characters in this book and I’m excited to continue the series. Highly recommend to those who were fans of The Royals Series by Erin Watt and Fallen Crest Series by Tijan.

This was completely ott drama, angst and longing looks. Just what I needed this week! I think it did start to jump the shark a little towards the end though. And it also had a huge cliffhanger which made me think in book 2 the author would begin the circle of drama all over again, which I am not sure I’m up for. So, good and totally what I needed, just not sure I’m willing to go on.

3 1/2 stars

Cute read which I was lured into by a friend because of the sports romance angle. Whilst it does feature, it's deffo more of a boy meets girl but she's got a million issues sort of gig.

Readable and frustrating because of the damn cliffy. I think I will read the next one, but it's not next on my list.

5 enchanted and swoony stars

Wow. Kata Cuic is my latest author crush. With First and Goal she has captured my heart and forever made me fall in love with Eva and Rob. And I love her style of writing, it was quirky and poetic in one huge swoony motion.

So, First and Goal is about a boy who bumps into a girl. Girl also bumps into Boy. Then years pass and then fate decides to step in and the wooing beings. *commence turning into a puddle of goo* I simply fell in love with Rob, he was sweet and the perfect guy every girl dreams of ending up with. This was a quirky yet heartbreaking story of true love and all the obstacles that stands in Rob’s way. You see Superjock, Rob fell in love with a girl on his first day of freshmen year. Her name was Eva and she was smart and funny and sweet and everything he wants in his life. But there was a tiny little thing standing in the way of true love. Rob. Yep, he himself was the obstacle. He and all the expectations people have of him. He was the star athlete and everyone wanted a piece of him. No one believed that for the past few years he has been waiting to go steady with his girl, he was just waiting for the courage to ask her. You see he wasn’t Superjock, he was actually a super geek who was extremely shy. It broke my heart to hear the self-deprecating monologue of Rob’s. His full-on assault on Eva to try to break the walls surrounding her heart. It made my geeky heart swoon all over again. He was going to break in and get his girl.

Eva also was secretly in love with a boy, sadly she knew for sure he was unattainable, so she decides to move forward and start dating and ended up being the worst rumor in her school. And then her world exploded around her when she was partnered with Superjock, and she hated every single moment of it. Where Eva was cursing the stars for the bad luck, Rob was kissing the feet of fate for giving him the perfect opportunity to woo his girl. Could there be a more dichotomous characters, umm NOPE. Not possible.

What made me curious and kept me glued to the book was how the whole story unfolds. They used to be friends and then they weren’t and now Eva hates him. I was curious to learn what had transpired to make her hate Rob and how come Rob never told her how he felt. So if you’re looking for a sweet, swoony, snarky, funny, hilarious, gooey, heart melting YA story then please, please 1-click Kata Cuic’s First and Goal and the 2nd book in the series ASAP. Because YOU will miss out on the best hours of your life without Rob and Eva to entertain you.

I laughed, I swooned, I cried and I felt my heart become full. And the ENDING. Holy Batman. Kata Cuic knows exactly how to make you sit on the edge of your seat, biting down on your nails and waiting to see how the ending unfolds. And unfold is does in a giant explosion that will rip your heart out and leave you bleeding for more.

I really loved this book. I think Kata did a great job shining a spotlight on the fact that both girls AND boys struggle with insecurities, peer pressure, and can be hurt by rumors and gossip. I love the characters that she developed- Eva, who was changed after something traumatic happened, and now tries to get through school without being noticed, and who has written off men. Rob (sigh) Rob is the star quarterback, who lives for football, but has been trying to hide the fact that he is awkward and shy underneath his toned exterior. Rob has had a crush on Eva since he met her in 9th grade, but he has never been bold enough to do anything about it. Now, Rob has been given the task of tutoring Eva, and he thinks it will be his chance to finally try to be with her. He wasn't prepared for the hurts in her life that keep her from trusting him. They also both fight vicious rumors, reputations, and appearances. Can he get her to trust him, and even more, to fall for him, or will he forever be in the friend-zone? Then, there is a huge twist at the end of the book, that was not expected at all. I truly enjoyed this book, and read through it pretty quickly, the only reason I have marked it at 4 out of 5 stars is because there is a lot of very crass and crude language between the characters- most in jest, but occasionally it goes a little too far in frustration. HOWEVER, I know this all plays in to the feel of making it real, what teens really face, and really struggle with, and the author does include a warning that this book should be 16+, which I am glad she includes that. I absolutely cannot wait to read the next book in the series.

Blown Away!!!
I was literally blown away with this absolutely amazing debut novel by Kata Cuic.
The story gripped me from the very beginning and I found it very easy way to relate to Evie's character straight away, I liked everything about her from her insecurities, to her stubbornness and kind nature. Then there's Rob, OMG Rob!!! I fell totally in love with him he is EVERYTHING you require in a book boyfriend, and boy have I found a new book boyfriend!! He is smart, funny, gorgeous, athletic and his love for Evie is so sweet, so beautiful that it took my breath away. I loved how she was everything to him and no one could even come close even though he has every opportunity to be with other girls he doesn't because all he sees and wants is Evie. I found this so refreshing than the normal popular guy you get in most books that take advantage of every opportunity thrown their way. Evie and Rob's love story left me breathless, warm and with butterflies in my tummy.
The story took some twists and turns that I did not see coming, especially towards the end so much so that I was left completely dazed and biting to get my hands on the next book. I can't wait to learn more about Alex!!

This book was so well written, Kata Cuic is an amazing author, she writes with such heart that you can feel every emotion come off the page and smack you right in the chest. Her characters feel so real they're almost tangible.
I have definitely found a new author to add to my 1-click list and can't wait to read more of her work.

My first ARC, everybody!!! :D
Where to start?
Main characters:
Eva- I didn't like her. I'm sorry, but she was a b*** 80% of the book. We get some answers why, but it wasn't enough for me. And she was sooo hypocrite.
Rob- He was perfect. I mean it. Soooo perfect, almost unhuman. The few times I could get a glimpse of real feelings, thoughts friom him, Eva shut him up and he apologized for them.
The story was... good. It had real potential, the main characters had interesting background, I'm sorry we couldn't read more of them.
It was full of trigers for abuse and assult, but the writer didn't go deep. To be honest I felt it was for a reason, I feel there is much to this story than a few vague mention Eva's past. (Maybe some real answers in Second down?)
The ending was hands down the best. I don't really like cliffhanger but it was great, I definetely want to read the second book.
Thank you, Kata for the ARC (and the help to find my kindle address:D)
(And as always sorry for any spelling mistakes. I'm still learning:D)
