I purchased this book at a signing and Topher Kearby was both kind and considerate to me and my family. I read the book that night and I really enjoyed the mix of typed poems, art, and poetry. Most of the poems resonated with me and I felt a deep connection with them. His unique way of expressing himself through his art is unlike anything I’ve seen before and I’m lucky to be a part of it.
This is a very beautiful and creative collection of art and poetry. I really enjoyed it and would definitely recommend it to anyone who’s a fan of art or poetry, or both! :)
Ame la parte en donde combina el arte con la poesía que es precisamente el último capítulo Aquí les dejo mis citas favoritas: 1.Chase: It's not that i didn't want to chase you, i just got tired of running. 2.In the end love was the death of me, but oh my... what a beautiful way to go. 3.Heaven and hell on my shoulders your name INKED on my heart. 4. Danger is beautiful. 5. Beautiful stories come out of terrible messes. 6. As if i ever needed wings to fly. 7. People will view you with their own eyes but don't let their perspective change your sight for you. 8. My heart shattered when we first kissed, for I knew my life had been a waste without you. 9. Kiss will answer a thousand questions that your words never could. 10. Even after all you put my through when I think of love I think of you.
My personal copy is all bent out of shape because I booktalked this collection of poetry and art to high school students who loved it so much, they passed it around to each other, flipping pages, and commenting, "That's me." Instant recognition and connection - not just for teens, but for adults like me, too. Told in three parts (words, words on scraps, and words on art), the poems are brief and the author invites readers to write and sketch their own to share with him on social media.
Teens loved the dragon illustration accompanied by the words, "fierce & wild, watch me soar." I loved the typewriter painting "Beautiful stories come out of terrible messes." Heartbreak, hope, inspiration, reflection - LIFE & HEART - I can't say enough good about it! If you only read one poetry book this year, this is the one.
Watercolor Words pulls you in from the very beginning and doesn’t let go until you’ve read every word. These pieces write themselves on your being and show you how the author sees the world around him. This book is a mixture of emotion laid out with so many artistic mediums that visually one can’t help but fall in love with it. The glimpses of art, his young adult books, as well as his drive to see your own work allows you to see the soul and love the author expresses in Watercolor Words. This book is an emotionally charged experience that allows the reader to take from it what he/she needs from each piece.
Watercolor Words is a wonderful work of art. After having read it through three times, the book makes me feel like I know the author personally. He has written part of his soul in the pages and it makes me want more. I am a little in love with this book!
Everyone alive should read this book. I have never felt more connected with a book. Watercolor Words perfectly embodies every hiccup and emotion I have ever stumbled upon throughout my life so far, and it is surreal. All I can say is well done Kearby, well done. There are two main things I absolute loved about this one; first how relatable the poetry is, and second Kearby's writing style. Oh, and the artwork of course.
I feel that Kearby's writing style brings a whole new perspective to poetry, and it was so beautiful to see him open up and also feel ripped open at the same time. I'm not going to lie, be prepared for tears to be shed, they were for me anyways. I also enjoyed seeing his style compared to other poetry writers I've seen. Kearby's style was quite refreshing, and has a completely new vibe to it. His work is also so unique; the artwork was exquisite. I haven't read a poetry book with so much vivid, colorful artwork incorporated with it. The artist in me was very pleased, I loved seeing all his original work, both written and drawn, come together to form truly stunning and unique way to read a book.
Watercolor Words grabbed me from the first page, to the last piece of artwork. It was so beautiful. Yes, this book made me cry. Yes, this book made me laugh. But this book mostly empowered me to feel again. Times have been tough, and I'm so glad I found this book on that crammed poetry shelve of my bookstore, because it reminded me that I don't need wings to fly. I highly recommend this book to everyone, especially those who feel lost. I hope you find yourself again, like I did.
Simple and at times repetitive, this little book was a quick read that attempted to make readers interact not only with the poetry, but with their own literary processes--leaving areas in the book to write and share their own poetry. I also particularly liked the scraps section as it felt wholly honest and unedited without it being completely unrefined. The samples of the fiction and self-promotion in between poem pages were my least favorite aspects of the book-as it made it seem as though he was promoting himself a little too hard--but I do understand the struggles of a relatively new poet.
I recieved this book as a gift and it is one if my favorite gifts I have ever received. I had owned a couple of Tophers poems before the book. It stays on my nightstand so I can pick it up whenever I want. I would highly recommend Watercolor Words and I can't wait to purchase more of his books!
This book is one of the first poetry books I read. It inspired to write and publish my own! I like Kearby's raw style. He makes you feel the words on the page. Great book!
**2.5** The artwork in this book was unique and beautiful, but not much about this stood out to me, unfortunately. It was just average, which was disappointing.
Not only is Topher's art moving and unique but his words are genuine. I've read this book three times already and I'm on my fourth... I know I will continue to read it again and again. If you are looking for words and art that will speak to your very soul, I highly recommend this book.
I love the sketches that went with some of the poems. I believe the format of this book could be better. Truth, love and hope show through in these poems.
I enjoyed this collection of poems. Beautiful words that I feel, many can relate to. my only complaint was that by the end, everything seemed a little repetative and the words were very small on my Kindle. I had to constantly zoom in to read everything.
