USA Today and #1 Sunday Times bestselling author Sarah Morgan writes romance and contemporary women's fiction and her trademark humour and warmth have gained her fans across the globe. Sarah lives near London, England, and when she isn't reading or writing she loves being outdoors.
Look out for Sarah's latest novel - All Together for Christmas (UK title)/ A Merry Little Lie (US/Canadian title)
As expected, Some Kind of Wonderful packs an emotional punch that Sarah Morgan is known for. Her two main characters are both flawed and had some growing to do and as the reader, I was swept away by their individual journey and as a couple.
Some of Kind of Wonderful is a story about two people in love but are too immature to sustain that love. There was no doubt that Zachary and Brittany are made for each other but the first time they got together wasn't right. They were both young and stupid and they both made rash decisions that contributed to the fallout of their ill-fated marriage.
Fast-forward to years later, Brittany and Zach are both mature. They both lived their lives and have grown individually, but it's quite clear from the moment they met together again that those feelings they had for each other never waned no matter how hard they try to deny it. It was also clear that both of them have changed for the better.
I loved and enjoyed reading this book--the setting, the characters, the dialogue--they all worked together in bringing the second chance romance between Zach and Brittany to life. Highly recommended.

It's Sarah Morgan and I'm yet to read a book of hers that I don't absolutely adore. And every time I finish one of her books I pre-order the next one.
Some Kind of Wonderful is a perfect summer read that has all of the right ingredients mixed together to create this amazing series. I want to go to Puffin Island so bad. I think I want to go there more than Snow Crystal. Because these whole communities that this author creates and drops you into are almost characters in themselves and they're magical. Amazing. Wonderful.
All through this book I was rooting for both characters. You just can't help it. You fall in love with them as much as you fall in love with the setting.
Although this is the second book in a series, you can definitely read it as a standalone. But I'd definitely recommend reading them all in order even if it's just so you can fully experience this wonderful setting and the amazing characters.
I received a copy of this for free via NetGalley for review purposes.
It’s important to let good people into your life.”
I admit I was a little wary going into this as Sarah Morgan used a similar second chance scenario in Holiday in the Hamptons which came a couple of years after this series and sadly was a huge fail for me. And if I’d read this beforehand it would have been even more so as she worked all her magic on Brittany and Zach and I loved them together. Couple of things felt unfinished but all in all another winner. Can’t stop, Sky and Alec are calling.
Song for summary: What If I Never Get Over You by Lady Antebellum
A captivating read! The characters are altruistic, contributive, reticent, and valiant while the plot is a nostalgic return to the beautiful seaside of Puffin Island. Full of compassion, friendship, heartache, picturesque backdrops, troubled pasts, and the whirlwind that comes from one's first love, Sarah Morgan delivers another enchanting story that shows just how chaotic life can get when the one that got away returns.
Sarah Morgan arrive toujours à me happer 🫶
5 - "What happened in the past wasn't your fault. What happens in the future is your decision." Stars!
Sarah Morgan’s Puffin Island series just goes from strength to strength with its latest instalment. Second chance love is one of my absolute favourites and this has to be one of the best telling’s of that tale I have read in quite some time. I think it is due to the depth and breadth of backstory and personality that Sarah manages to give her characters without clogging up the flow of the overall story, and it makes her books pretty hard to put down, Some Kind of Wonderful slips into that category with ease.
Zach and Brittany haven’t seen each other in ten years, after marrying in haste as the young are wont to do, and then Zach making an even hastier retreat from their honeymoon bed, their reconnection, or potential fall-out from it is one that could cause issues for them both, especially as they are literally reliving the memories that they both made together the first time around. But as I have come to expect with this authors work, this isn’t just a simple reconnection story, Zach’s back-story, and Brittany’s unwavering belief in him through everything, made for a pretty emotional, sexually tense and engrossing read.
This book and the series as a whole so far has been an absolute treat, you get to spend more time with Emily (book one) and Skylar (Christmas Ever After, due October 2015), as Zach and Brittany’s story progresses. I enjoyed the time exploring Puffin Island further, and getting to know more about its residents as they came into contact with them. There is a lot of potential here for more books over and above what is already advertised, and I really hope Sarah gives her readers the opportunity to revisit the Island and keep up with its inhabitants many times again in the future.
Was there a more perfect place to live on the planet?

I did not love this book the way I wanted to, and I am so bummed out about that. I just couldn't connect to the characters (or even the writing and that was the most wtf thing in the world, but it just felt so weirdly repetitious?) and their relationship, and ugh, I am just so sad about this.
I'm still sort of hopeful about the next one because I like that dynamic a lot, but yeah. I'm sad.
A decade ago, good girl and Puffin Islander Brittany Forrest thought that bad boy Zach Flynn was the answer to her adventure dream. He was her first and being in love as well, Brittany asked Zach to get married. Only ten days later, that dream shattered when Zach walked out on her. Now, Brittany is back to Puffin Island after an accident broke her wrist. Unfortunately, Zach is too. Now no matter how Brittany says that it's all over between her and Zach, the intense emotions between them is not something they both easily denied.
Some Kind of Wonderful is the second book in Morgan's "Puffin Island series. I was looking forward to this one mainly because it has "one who got away" theme, which has always been a favorite of mine when it comes to romance.
From the first chapter, Zach just had my heart. I knew that he would be a difficult stubborn man, and Brittany would need to fight hard to knock down the wall of distrust surrounding Zach's heart. Zach came from an abusive home situation, and he was shoved into foster care when he was only eight years old. He has lived his life not trusting anyone because it's the way he feels safe. Meanwhile Brittany, despite having her parents divorced, grew up with the love of her grandmother and the Puffin residents. She was loved and had a happy childhood.
I thought the chemistry and tension between these two was OFF the chart. It was clear that both still had deep feelings towards one another. But Brittany was afraid of getting hurt again, while Zach still didn't know how to love other people. I was so immersed with their story and I couldn't take my eyes off the pages.
I actually cried not once, not twice, but on three separate occasions while reading this book. The first one was when Jack saved a stray dog. That moment was powerful because it made me, as a reader, understood Zach a lot better. Then the other two occasions was when Zach finally opened up to Brittany about his childhood, and of course, the ending.
Guess I was probably in sappy mode.
But yes, I loved Zach so much -- and Brittany too; except for the ending, in which I thought she was throwing a hissy fit, being childish, and a bit over-dramatic.
Despite my annoyance near the end, I still loved this story very much. I couldn't wait for the conclusion with Alec and Skylar's story. With the way these two are acting towards one another -- with hatred *LOL* -- their story could be explosive :)
I'm really looking forward to hearing what everyone else thinks about this book because I can't tell if the problem is me or the book. I did put it down for several weeks, which didn't do the book any favors, but I just didn't totally feel it. I thought Zach's transformation at the end happened too quickly. I didn't really buy it. (I did like the bone of his story, though. I can relate a lot to feeling like you don't care, even though the evidence says otherwise. Maybe that relation is why the book ultimately fell flat. It didn't match with how life is for me.)
Some Kind of Wonderful is one of the books that I took on holiday to Devon and it was perfect summer reading.
It's Book Two in the Puffin Island trilogy (I haven't read Book One yet*) but can be read as a stand alone.
The characters, the setting, the community and Sarah Morgan's writing style made this a romance that really worked for me.
Zach is your typical wounded and brooding male lead. Beginning as it does with his childhood background, the reader empathises with him straight away. As the story progresses, we find out that he's not as flawed as he wants everyone to believe.
Brittany doesn't settle anywhere and despite owning Castaway Cottage, feels suffocated living permanently in this close knit community. On her return to the island, pretending nonchalance towards Zach, her speeding heart and shaking limbs show otherwise.
The attraction between them is there from that first eye contact and despite trying to ignore it, it's just not possible for them stay away from each other. Their intimacy draws you in and the sex scenes are very well written. There is one scene that is a symbol for much more than a sexual release.
The way that the author has Brittany reflecting on that whirlwind time when she was 18 shows how much she's matured since she's been away. She has the selfishness of that age group just right.
Brittany's two closest friends - Emily who is living on the island and Skylar (a short flight away in Manhattan) are the perfect foil for her indecision with their opposing views. Emily has had lots of changes since Brittany's been away (Emily's story is told in Book One, First Time in Forever) and is settled. Skylar is acting out of character and her story will complete the trilogy (Christmas Ever After publishing October).
You can understand Brittany's feeling about living within a small community - the assumptions and judgments that are made which just aren't true. But the islanders are only protecting their own. There are strong bonds and acceptance on differing levels. A couple of humorous scenes gave me a chuckle.
The maturing love and friendship between Zach and Brittany kept me turning those pages. Add into the mix the setting and secondary characters and it's a story that I would recommend to all romance readers not to miss!
I would like to thank the publishers for a copy in exchange for an honest review.
Well, dayumn! If I thought that the first book in the Puffin Island trilogy was absolutely fantastic, then the second book was just perfect in every sense of the word. I'll be honest, there are a ton of Sarah Morgan's book that I still need to read but so far, the Puffin Island trilogy has won me over completely and we're only onto the second book. One thing I've come to recognise though, is that Sarah Morgan never, ever fails to let me down. She is an author whom I wholeheartedly trust. I would gladly drop a pile of Sarah Morgan's books into my trolley while shopping without even glancing at their covers or blurb because I just know, hand on heart, that she will provide me with a story that is completely swoon-worthy, addictive, all-consuming and exactly what I, as a romance reader, adore when reading. Sarah's characters are always, without fail, strongly crafted and incredibly believable. They each come with their very own history, dreams, beliefs and ideas that set them apart from each other and Sarah moulds them so beautifully it's near impossible to think of them as fictional and not, in fact, real people.
Some Kind of Wonderful stole my heart, my breath and, deliciously, my sleep. I found myself racing through this story, desperate to devour every word that the author provided me with, as well as every gorgeous description, pulse-raising scene and tender moment. Puffin Island was, as it appeared to me in the first novel First Time in Forever, a stunning place to set this story. It quickly began to feel like home to me, and Sarah brought it to life beautifully, with the islanders, the stores and the back-stories of the characters who played secondary roles to Brittany and Zach who took centre-stage in the unravelling of this story.
As I mentioned above, Sarah Morgan is always at the top of her game when it comes to bringing her characters to life for the reader, and in Some Kind of Wonderful, this skill truly shone. Zachary Flynn was, as I'd hoped, the ultimate bad-boy, and although this completely worked in my favour, it hadn't worked in Brittany Forrest's. Sarah revealed Brittany and Zach's past to me in the most touching of ways, it quickly became evident that Zach wasn't just a bad-boy because it attracted the ladies (although this had certainly worked in his favour in the past). No, this bad-boy attitude had stemmed from the dark years he'd spent in foster homes, and earlier years alongside his brutal, nasty father. As I learnt more about Zach, and as Sarah painted this picture of what he'd been through during his lifetime, my heart, which had originally been thumping with joy at realising I had a bad-boy hero on my hands, slowed right down and suddenly, I didn't believe in his façade after all. In fact, my heart began to ache for this beautiful man who just couldn't seem to feel or love, but, it turned out, desperately wanted to, despite not admitting it to himself. I really took to Zach, not just as a potential book-boyfriend, but because I could see this person locked away inside the bad-boy demeanour and I was desperate for that person to come out. There wasn't a doubt in my mind, throughout reading, that a softer, more gentle side to Zach did exist. I fell for Zachary Flynn hook, line and sinker and, as the novel progressed, it turned out Brittany Forrest had done exactly the same thing as a teenager on Puffin Island.
It was difficult for me to not become sympathetic towards Brittany Forrest, especially since she's a wrist down after an accident during an archaeological dig. So when she returns to Puffin Island, free of plans for the time being but faced with the unavoidable presence of Zachary Flynn, I was bouncing on the spot, eager to see those sparks that would inevitably zip between them, and my God did they zip! Those sparks flung themselves to and fro between Brittany and Zachary and it made for one hell of a deliciously intense read that had my own pulse racing, never mind Brittany's! Once I became aware of the history between the two of them, it made complete sense that Brittany would try to stay as far away from Zachary Flynn as possible. But unfortunately for Brittany, (fortunately for me!) in a place like Puffin Island, it's near impossible to not cross paths at some point. Oh, the chemistry, the tension, the history between them! It spoke volumes for the here and now, and I was desperate, desperate I tell you, for something to happen between them, because if it wasn't then I was going to explode from the sizzle! Brittany appealed to me because she was such a loving, kind-hearted woman, endlessly loyal and she had the most fantastic friends surrounding her on Puffin Island, it was hard to not feel just a little bit jealous of her circumstances, Zach included. I loved the moments where, as the novel progressed, Brittany would turn to Skylar and Emily (who we meet in First Time in Forever) to discuss things and figure out what she'd do next. These moments between the friends allowed me to take a step away from the relationship between Brittany and Zach, meaning that when Sarah returned my attention to them, it felt more exciting and tense than ever!
In true Sarah Morgan style, Some Kind of Wonderful was just stunning. It had everything that I'd hoped for and more. The physical attraction, emotional withholding, raw chemistry, great friends and a setting to die for, the second novel in the Puffin Island series is definitely my favourite so far. Zach was a complete hunk of a man, Brittany was a strong, independent woman, and the story of their love had my heart doing somersaults in my chest. It's certainly true what they say. "Absence makes the heart grow fonder." But in this case, a witty heroine who makes a few rules for herself hides this brilliantly well.
Becca's Books is rating Some Kind of Wonderful by Sarah Morgan with FIVE SCRUMPTIOUS CUPCAKES! I am on tenterhooks as I wait for the last novel in the Puffin Island trilogy, which is where we'll be reunited with Skylar. After reading a teaser once I'd finished Some Kind of Wonderful, I just know that we're in for one gorgeous finale! Sarah Morgan, I really cannot applaud you enough. I was wrapped up in Zach and Brittany's story completely, the romance was breathtaking and the characters were a complete and utter joy. Roll on October!
Really enjoying the Puffin Island series. This book felt like it had a bit more depth to the characters than book #1. Zach had a lot of baggage to overcome, and while it took some time for him to get to the point where he could admit to himself and Brit just what it was he felt for her, the process didn't seem tedious or like overkill as some other authors tend to do because they drag a storyline out.
I only discovered Sarah Morgan's books about a year ago and have liked each one I've read since I've been working my way through her list.
Lettura consigliata!
I was gripped by Zach's story right from the first chapter, where we see a very small insight into his childhood, and what he has been through, and how it has turned him into the man he is today. I think during that first chapter I fell just a little bit in love with Zach, despite remembering a small bit about him from the first book in this trilogy.
Some Kind of Wonderful is about the complicated relationship between Zach and Brittany. They had a very short lived marriage when they were still in their teens, Zach left Brittany broken-hearted 10 days into the marriage, and then they have managed to stay out of each others way in the inbetween years. But now they are both back on Puffin Island, and so they are bound to encounter each other.
And wow when they meet, they clearly still have feelings for each other, even if they are trying their hardest to deny the connection.
There is some fantastic action in this book, not just sexual action, but thrilling dangerous action, showing once again what a fantastic man Zach has turned out to be.
It was wonderful to catch up with the latest in Emily and Skylar's stories, and their friendship with Brittany. Some Kind of Wonderful could easily be read a stand alone novel, but why deny yourself the pleasure of reading First Time in Forever, and your proper introduction to Puffin Island.
Puffin Island once again shows what a wonderful place it is to live, and all the islanders really do protect their own, and their favourite way to show they care is to leave a casserole on the doorstep of anyone they think could do with the comfort of a casserole. Brittany and Zach's reactions to various casseroles are hilarious.
Some Kind of Wonderful is a fantastic summery story, with a lovely romance at the centre of it. The main theme seems to be trust and friendship, and these are dealt with superbly. I would happily recommend this book to anyone wanting something to read on their holidays this summer.
Thank you to Mills & Boon and Netgalley for this review copy. This was my honest opinion.
I was eagerly awaiting the publication of 'Some Kind of Wonderful', the second installment of the Puffin Island series from Sarah Morgan, having loved the first story. And, phew, this book was certainly worth the anticipation and I devoured it in one sitting.
After breaking her wrist on an archaeological dig, Brittany returns to Puffin Island to recuperate, but is faced with the surprise return of her ex-husband, Zach to the island. Married for just a matter of weeks over 10 years ago, Brittany was devastated when he left her, and has never discovered the real reason why. Guarded and uninterested in relationships beyond the physical point, Zach has always felt guilty about hurting Brittany. With feelings simmering on both sides, can Brittany find a way through Zach's armor, and is a relationship second time around possible?
Again, we are treated to a fabulous backstory involving the main characters, which builds throughout the book. Although I enjoyed Brittany's portrayal, it was Zach's sensual character that held my attention. He was written with such depth, his emotional issues and troubled childhood really came across, and the electric sexual tension between the two practically leapt off the page!. The secondary characters are just as interesting, and you still get a great sense of the close community on Puffin Island that was introduced in the first book.
Sarah Morgan has a great talent for bringing her characters and settings alive and I'm waiting with bated breath for the last in the trilogy, hurry up October so I can absorb myself in Skylar's story.
*Thank you to the publishers for providing a review copy through NetGalley.
Sarah Morgan’s second in her Puffin Island series, Some Kind of Wonderful is a breath-stealing second chance romance. Reintroducing fans to her unpredictable, funny, intense and heartbreaking too young heroine and too damaged hero to appreciate the extraordinarily powerful love they accidentally discovered 10 years before. And now brings them kicking and screaming back together, wringing every emotion out of them while kindly inviting her readers along for the ride. Her tight-knit, idyllic/meddling, wagon-circling, remote community is the perfect comedic/heartwarming backdrop and her unsinkable circle of friends is an impressive and genuine accessory. How this master storyteller handles the real travesty of abuse is the true standout in this profoundly emotional page-turner.
Archeologist Brittany Forrest has no problem digging up the past except when it comes to her decade-old, 10-day train-wreck of a marriage. When she comes home to Puffin Island Maine to regroup and recuperate after an injury, unfortunately her ex is the first person she sees but the last person she wants to because no matter how many times she says she’s over him, seeing him only proves she’s a liar. Zach Flynn has many regrets in his reprobate past, but the biggest one is leaving his ex-wife to pick up the pieces of their five-minute marriage after walking out on her. He didn’t think he deserved her then and seeing her now he knows he still doesn't. But that doesn’t make his wanting her any less real. Will being thrown together on a small island convince them that the second time’s a charm or show them once and for all how wrong for each other they really are?
Some Kind of Wonderful continues the tale of the three friends - Emily, Brittany and Skylar - and their love interests on Puffin Island. This book is the turn of Brittany and Zach and their tumultuous relationship. Ten years previously they married but Zach disappeared a few days later. He has had a very abusive childhood and can't get past that in order to trust people. Brittany, on the other hand, grew up on Puffin Island, secure in her grandmother's love and that of her friends, so she trusts all too easily.
Some Kind of Wonderful follows their meeting once again and how they try to deal with the mutual attraction, which is still very strong. Emily and Sky are both in the story as are Ryan and Alec.
I was half in love with Zach myself and really hoping that he managed to break down his walls. The introduction of Jaws was a lovely touch. I'll say no more but that scene had me holding my breath!!
Yet another winner from Sarah. Roll on October when Skylar and Alec's story comes out!
I was given a copy of this book by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
What a great return to Puffin Island. Brittany returns after breaking her wrist on an archaeological dig. Unfortunately she finds that the pilot flying her home is her ex husband who walked out on her after 10 days. She tries to give him the impression that she's moved on and he has no effect on her- but the more time they spend together, the more the early spark they shared tries to reignite itself.
He has trouble letting his feelings go because he had a very troubled childhood and Brittany wonders whether he'll ever be able to move on. She wants him to accept that they could have a future together.
There are some lovely scenes where he does show that he cares- but is still unable to accept it to himself. By the end of the book I was really rooting for him and now can't wait to read the next instalment in this great series.
Many thanks to Net Galley for a copy of this book.
So the hero and heroine were married for a hot minute but the hero walked away. They both were young and didn't know each other so well. Fast forward a decade later and the hero and heroine land up in her hometown the same time. Now, I thought this book would be a true angst fest but sadly it was meh!The heroine just decided to jump the hero, then she loves him, I just couldn't swallow what the book was selling and normally I love SM and her books. This may just be a case of not for me.
Kecuali kebiasaannya menerobos rumah Brittany, Zach terlalu mewakili pria dgn kegamangan luka batin ketimbang badboy yg bertobat.
Karakter Brittany juga so so saja. Cenderung utk menyelamatkan orang/hewan yg terluka adalah bakat besarnya, tetapi kebiasaannya yg gampang pergi setelah hatinya terluka adalah sifat jeleknya. Tapi chemistry mereka lumayan bagus, walaupun saya kurang suka kekepoan penduduk Puffin Island ini, seolah-olah tidak ada ruang privacy sama sekali. Terlalu ndeso.
“Io ti amo così come sei.”
“Lo so.”
Vogliamo parlare dell’ambientazione?
I wanted to continue with the Puffin Island series immediately after reading "First time in forever" and now its another year gone and I am asking myself why I waited so long.
I definitely enjoyed "Some kind of wonderful" but I had some difficulties with the couple. They were nice characters and both interesting in their own way but they didn't really work as a couple for me. They did have a great chemistry but they were also a bit annoying with their constant denial of their feelings. Still it was a sweet story.
The setting was absolutely great again. I loved Puffin Island with its beautiful scenery and the sweet little town. It is a place where you feel at home and which you don't want to leave ever again.
I also love Sarah Morgans writing style and she is easily one of my favorite authors.
Brittany Forrest has broken her wrist while on an archaeological dig so has returned home to Puffin bay to recuperate. But she doesn't know her ex husband is also now living there too! Sparks and passions fly but behind the lust there is a deeper reason why she and Zach got divorced but can they make it work second time around? A lovely, whimsical summer romance with a huge feel good factor.
