In 1990 Robert J. Thomas was sworn in as the full time mayor for the city of Westland, Michigan. He served twelve years, making him the longest serving mayor in Westland's history.
While he was mayor he wrote his first book titled, How to Run for Local Office, which has now sold over 25,000 copies worldwide.
He has written and published on Kindle, the Jess Williams Westerns series. Retired, he now lives in Mississippi with his wfe Jill.
I love Western movies and tv shows, but haven't always enjoyed Western novels (Lonesome Dove being an exception). This is a perfect book for someone who only occasionally reads Westerns. Like any short story compilation, there are gems and there are lumps of coal. Most of the stories are entertaining and all of them are short, so even the mediocre stories don't take long to read. My favorite is one of the longer stories involving Jess Williams, a fast shooting and wealthy bounty hunter who only goes after the worst of the bad guys. He gets involved in a dispute between a family of sheep farmers and a powerful cattleman. There are twists to the tale and some humor as well. Overall, the collection is a pleasant way to spend a couple hours of your time and if you don't read much Western fiction, these authors will likely be new to you, as they were to me.
Clean editing and good storytelling make for an enjoyable collection of short stories and novellas. I particularly liked the one about the mountain man and the "princess." If you're looking for something to while away a couple of hours, this book does nicely. I won't say I couldn't put the book down, and I won't re-read it, so it gets a solid four stars instead of five.
This collection of western short stories gives you a range of stories and characters. Not all of the good deeds were by men, as a couple of the female characters held their own and showed what they were made of. Some of the stories had the usual good guy bad guy shoot it out aspect but others were a little different but still good reading, and I got a laugh or two also.
The style of each author is just different enough to make each story its own "thing". If there is a common thread to this group of stories it is how the role of law enforcement becomes more prevalent as the West gets more settled. Really enjoyed the portions where " kids" were a real focus and played significant roles in good winning over evil.
Enjoyed the different story lines 😀. Some better then others but would read other works from all them again. Mostly clean some vulgar language . Anyone who enjoys westerns.
A good series of western stories, each a little different than the other. An easy and enjoyable read, done in one sitting. I'd recommend it to anyone who enjoys westerns.
I really liked the short story format and the selection of stories was interesting. Definitely worth the read. My only regret is that there weren't more stories!
Great to read short stories. All were good. The last one made me sad, but life was like that after a war ended. No one understood, and talking about it wasn't encouraged then
Reader's will find several really enjoyable short western stories within these pages. Some were exceptional and the others ranged from "OK" to very good.
Just like riding along in the saddle with these " old west" folk. Different western tales with descriptions of the scenery and action right up there with the best of 'em
A compendium of entertaining short stories of the old West. Each author brings unique insights to folk lore of early America. Fun and entertaining. CE Williams free from Bookbub
I like short stories as you get to the heart of the matter in a hurry. All the short stories were well written and who part of what it might have been like back in the day. Will keep you entertained until the end.
This is a nice collection of western stories. The characters are interesting and the action is well written. I will definitely be following the writers in this collection and reading more of their stories.
My love of horses has always made me love cowboy movies and movies of post civil war westward expansion. These stories make you feel like you knew the people of that time.
I felt the stories kind of left you hanging, like there needed to be more to the story to have a better ending. What was there to the story was good and held my attention but I would have liked them to end differently.
I enjoyed the stories and all of them encouraged me to get the stories they are from. I am definitely going to start looking. Tell Cottons got a good one in here.
Easy reading short story collection. All the stories were good, which isn't the norm. Disappointed in the Best (Steve Dancy) story. I'd just read it. It was included in the book Jenny's Revenge. Welp, just have to move on to the Wanted II book to get my fix.
The stories are all poorly written, boring, unimaginative, and pointless. It seems that the featured authors here need to take creative writing lessons. I read up to the last story, hoping for at least one good adventure, but no. Everything is just dry and bland.
Excellent read. An introduction to a few western authors I've never read before. And a welcome return of some tried and true favourites. Full of sand, twisted plots and unique characters.
Great stories by some great storytelling authors. A nice example of different writing styles that give readers a choice to find their favorite. All stories are well written, have happy endings, and no f words to be found. Western readers should enjoy this book.
This Book has 5 Stories from different Authors, the stories were very good, I was surprised at how good they were, would recommend this book to anyone who likes to read Westerns as I do.
