Great breakdown of the different tests used in SPSS, would highly recommend for anyone struggling with statistics.

However, one downside is that the SPSS outputs are always clumped together while the text explaining each table is clumped together afterwards (rather than having the explanations next to their corresponding table) - made flipping back and forth a bit of a hassle!

if you're a SAS junkie who's been forced to use Windows-based SPSS for the first time in 7 years, this book rocks. even if you're already familiar with SPSS and just needing a refresher, it's a totally useful resource. big downside though: teaches only the point-and-click method and doesn't provide info about syntax.

As much as I do not encourage learning research methods without a teacher, this book proved to be useful when one is desperate and has no one to ask. The steps are detailed, the reasons behind doing certain things are given, the output is explained and there is even a section telling you how to report your findings.

In addition to "SPSS version 18.0 for Windows : analysis without anguish" by Coakes, this book is the second core book to learn data analysis using SPSS. I believe each postgraduate student who is conducting his research using quantitative method must own these two books in his racks for learning and citing purposes.
