Bartholomew is on his way to a Christmas party when disaster strikes, and he finds himself in dire need of a new suit. Thankfully, disaster struck right outside his favorite suit shop, and the cute tailor has the perfect suit to solve his problem—and possibly the solution to a whole lot more.
I have my mom to thank for so much. First of all, she fostered a love of reading. According to her I've been reading since I could hold a book and I got my first library card at age 3. Growing up I used to read 100 books a year, but of course, that doesn't happen as often since there's writing to do and a day job.
Secondly, I have to thank her for always pushing me to keep chasing my dream of being an author. Who else am I going to bounce ideas off of, and she helps me when I get stuck. Suppose you could say she's my biggest fan.
When I'm not writing I enjoy time with my dog, tending my garden, baking sweet treats, walking through crunchy fall leaves and blankets of cold snow, playing video games, and reading! I've a fondness for horses and blankets (is it possible to own too many?)
While this was a decent story, I felt the execution let it down. The story was written in a contemporary setting but was written in a historical way. The phrasing, word choices, and the characters were all historical in nature, down to speech patterns and behaviour, so that when they did say something modern, it felt jarring and strange. All that talk of dance cards only added to it. Because of the floral prose and modern setting, I never really felt comfortable within the story. The romance was a sudden insta-love, with nothing to make us feel this relationship was natural or believable, and there were editing issues throughout.
If it had been set in a historical era, even 40s or 50s, I would have believed it more. Instead, this was a historical romance in the wrong era.
A gorgeous short story as we follow Jay preparing for a Christmas party he doesn't want to go to, but it's his boss so . . . . An unfortunate accident on the way turns the whole evening into something different, something special. It's a very lovely read and sadly over way too soon.
A fluffy, feel-good read that many will probably read in a single sitting. Though Christmas is still several months away, its holiday setting would pair wonderfully with a cup of hot chocolate and a blanket when winter rolls around.
I spent a lot of time going back and forth between three and four stars here, settling on this because, as Goodreads interprets it, I liked it. It's a cute short story with some nice touches. Anyone who knows the genre and enjoys it will be entertained.
(There were some minor typos I came across, but errors in advance reader copies are often corrected by the time the book is released).
So if you like suits, sweet PG romance, and , this is an ebook that may be up your alley.
Cute, sweet and short, with a... Reverse Cinderella spin? Anyhow, it was very cute. It was wholesome with two likeable characters. I would have like some more, but it was complete without any add-ons as well, so I’m not taking off points with that. Good writing, sound characters and a nice story, so I can’t ask anything more out of a short story. This is romance though, not erotica. Readers beware :P
