SOME MISTAKES COME BACK TO HAUNT YOU Tortured by his decision to leave the scene of a fatal hit and run, Garth's guilty conscience causes him to see ghostly apparitions of the victim. But when cars identical to his own start crashing at the scene of the accident, Garth discovers that the ghost is real -- and it's hunting him down, hell-bent on revenge...
Ghost Ahead is a suspense-packed supernatural thriller full of twists and turns from the author of Don't Look Inside and Leave This Place.
Well written, fast paced psychological horror story.
I would have rated it 4 stars if more questions were answered and if the ending wasn't so rushed.
Lots of missed opportunities with the story itself. What happened with the jail ghost? Who killed that one guy? Was Garth suffering PTSD from his work? And....seriously...a ouija board? I just felt the story could have been more.
That's not to say I didn't enjoy the ride. I absolutely did. If the description tickles your fancy then I'm sure you'll enjoy it as I did.
For the moment I'm in a ghost story mood. So time to check out all my recent Amazon purchases (though purchase is not always the right since I got lots of them for free). This was one of my Amazon books. I had never heard of the author before, bu tthe story seemed interesting and in any case, if it wasn't good, it was only 200 pages so I was quite confident that I would breeze through it.
The story starts out with a car accident. The main character hits a man at night and decided to just go for a hit and run. This immediately made me feel not so sympathetic towards the character. Hit and run, not okay. Luckily, the author seems to feel the same way about this because this decision will hunt the main character for the rest of the book. Honestly, I couldn't really feel sorry for him. The book was fast-paced and sometimes had an eerie atmosphere. Some scenes did feel a bit strange to me though, and I felt like these could have been explored further. However, all in all it did not bother me all that much.
I enjoyed this read a lot and plan to read more by this author.
I could not put this book down until I finished it! I was so engrossed in the story. Every time I thought Garth would finally be ok, another obstacle popped up. If you enjoy creepy but we'll written stories, this is the author for you.
I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review! Now that the formality is over, let me just say that from the beginning, the author caught my attention and made me want to finish the book. You follow Garth who is your average, hardworking man who is not beyond making moral and ethical mistakes. He hits a man and kills him, only to find out there was a secret horror that the, now dead man, has hidden from the world. The story unfolds and you see how Garth really takes his crime to all ends, but only to succumb to supernatural forces who just wants to destroy his life. The ending was incredible. I do not want to give it away! You just have to read it! By far, an amazing story written by an amazing author!
A heart-in-mouth horror thriller with a killer denouement immediately encompassed by a knockout ending--exactly why I read Spike Black. GHOST AHEAD is full-on, take-no-prisoners, you'll-never-expect-this, horror. The implacability is so much more terrifying because the initiating event literally COULD HAVE HAPPENED TO ANYBODY.
I've read quite a few of Spike Black's books. I found "Don't Look Inside" and "Leave This Place" to be a little too cheesy and very "Hallmark Horror." Ghost Ahead was definitely a step in the right direction and I can see the author's writing improving. This book wasn't extremely long but the pacing felt right. There was a nice amount of character development mixed in with a flowing story. I did feel like the ending was rushed but overall, an enjoyable read!
A haunting tale. A man on his way home from work in the middle of the night hits someone in the road. His decision how to deal with this comes back to literally haunt him. Spike Black is fast becoming one of my favorite authors. I was given an advanced copy of this book for my honest review.
Not my cuppa tea. Maybe I am getting soft in my older age, but I am just not into graphic depictions of gore & murder in my horror. If you like blood & guts this will be right up your alley...
I normally don't read ghost stories like this one , but I will have to say this was a very enjoyable fast read. Will most definitely see what else this author has to read.
GHOST AHEAD By Spike Black 3 stars Who is the true ghost?
This is a simple horror thriller that begins with a driver on his way home from work late at night, running into what he thinks is a bear because it is so big and black, except there aren’t any bears where he lives. After checking it, he finds it is a man, who is dead, and the accident takes place at a specific place in the road where there is a tree that is prominent. Garth, the protagonist, does not want to believe this could have happened except his car is badly dented. He doesn’t know what to do about the dead man, so he just leaves him and decides he will say nothing. His job is in a place where they kill, bleed, and cut up hogs and there is a certain manner in which to do it because it is more efficient. Garth drives a silver car and he takes it to a shop to get it repaired. Thereafter, several silver cars of the same brand wreck in the identical spot, hitting the tree, and killing the driver. Finally, Garth learns the name of the man he killed and also that the man had been a professional murderer. Garth feels he probably did the public a service by killing this man.
The story is gory in that every victim is hung up like a pig and bled out and cut up like the hogs. Garth’s wife was once a cop and worked in the local jail and there is a mystery about the jail, although it is a loose end that is never tied up. There are several lacking continuity in the story, but it is a simple tale, easily read and different if the reader is looking for something rather unique in the way of a mystery.
