Considering how horrible the Civil War was, especially to those fighting and dying in it, it's not surprising that there are ghost stories about it.

Various things are covered including slaves being used to help the war effort, suicides, murders, accidents and how at times one side or the other had to leave their friends behind. Sometimes there was enough food, clothes and medical care to help them recover.

Sometimes they had nothing and they died.

The book does two things. One is discussing various paranormal sightings including photos, orbs, the feeling of clothes being touched, cold spots and actual ghosts.

The strength of the book, in my opinion, is the very detailed coverage of the various battles. In this form it's an excellent examination of the war in Alabama and its done in detail.

The two approaches work well together and make this a must-read book for anyone interested in the paranormal in relation to the Civil War.

Another interesting history/ghost stories book!

I enjoyed this book very much. I love reading the history about the Civil War. Actually, I love history! When hauntings are added I love it even more. So combining the 2 makes it more interesting to me. This is why I love and enjoy the Haunted America series.

The book gives a short account of the battles at each location which were enjoyable. Then it discusses ghost sightings at each location often accompanied by a little local history. I skimmed over those but they might be fun for those interested in that shirt of thing.

More of a history book than a ghost book. Most of the “ghost stories” sounded like they came off of some online forum and were followed by numerous cheesy questions: “What could he want? Is his soul in a state of unrest? We may never know.”
