Sometimes the only way to move forward is by running away. Mina moved across the country. Left everything behind. All to get away from a cloud of suspicion she didn’t earn. For her kids. For herself. Two years later she has a new life. New friends. A thriving business. And her eyes on a shaggy-haired farmer with dimples as deep as the Grand Canyon. But the past she thought was locked away is back. And this time Mina’s not the only one in danger. ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ “I laughed, I cried and nearly swooned.” ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ “One of the best books I have in my collection.”

I live in southern Ohio with three kids, nine chickens, four ducks, two dogs, a guinea pig, a gecko, and one very patient husband.
I write romance of all shapes and sizes and there's nothing I love more than a redeemed bad boy.
Unless it's a grumpy redeemed bad boy.

Beautiful

Mina had to take her children and hide. Her ex husband got into bad with drug dealers and they wanted him dead, but he tried to kill her. Now she has a new start, New town and is happy. Thomas has been working his farm but is lonely, after his divorce he hasn't felt like dating but something about his running neighbor. His mom seems to like her.

In a romance, I feel the OTP should meet pretty quickly. Here, it's 25 pages in before they have that first encounter. But there was just enough in the first 24 pages to keep me going.

However, it turns out the story wasn't as compelling as I'd hope for and I found myself skimming through the book, my eye, unfortunately, catching all the typos and grammatical mistakes. From being secret admirers of each other, the hero and heroine moved pretty quickly into intimacy and feelings of love.

One part creeped me out during a moment of intimacy. Question: When one person says the other has to stop and the other says, "I don't think so", and continues taking off the first one's clothes, doesn't that constitute rape?

The author has also included a suspense element, but it was a bit draggy and became tiresome for me.

did-not-finish

I marked this as read but it should say did not finish. I was so bored with this book and honestly didn’t understand what story the author was even trying to tell. I don’t know if this was because it’s one of her older books, maybe her writing wasn’t as good before. I have read her new stuff and it’s good, nice tight stories with sweetness and some angst. This one was terrible. Didn’t go anywhere yet also had lots of stuff happening that just didn’t make sense. He gets injured and then gives up on life, then suddenly he doesn’t give up anymore but we were never really told why other than having dinner with the female character. Then his house blows up? Like why? I’m just too bored to find out. Not worth reading and because it’s the first of a series I won’t even be going down this road. Title should be changed to run away.

I love a story that has connections that you don't realize at first but then see as you read along. This was a great story with some romance, a bit of suspense, and best of all...a sequel about two of the characters we met and were curious about their story. I can't wait to read #2.

Yes, This is a Good Story

Run is the kind of story that reveals hearts and hurts so they can be healed. Janice Whiteaker took some pretty gritty situations and delivered a romance between two vulnerable but still strong personalities. It was gripping and thought provoking and layered in a way that made this reader do some serious mind exercises. I truly loved that the Big Hero of this story is the heroine, without the hero being made a wimp. Sometimes the ladies have to get it done!

I loved this book with the perfect characters. Tom burned by his first marriage devotes his life to his farm and Mina who survived a horrible marriage that ended in her husband trying to kill her. She is a single Mom of two has a business of buying houses, remodeling and flipping them and has not time for dating. Neighbors that admire each other from afar but too gun shy for anything else until Fate steps in.

Mina moved her two children across the country after her husband was convicted for trying to kill her. Now she is a home flipper in a male dominated field with an unwanted admirer (the home inspector that can control her business). Then she meets Thomas a local farmer who seems very accident prone.

Good story

This was a good story but there was some confusion for me early on that kind of detracts from the story. There also seemed to be some stilted parts. The cousin/ brother issue seemed a bit of a stretch, we didn't really don't see enough of Rich for this to be entirely believable. I do like this author and I think this may have been some of her earlier work?

This was an amazing novel. I am so glad I entered a contest I didn't win but still got to read some of the novels from it! This story is about two people who are just surviving in life but have a spark when they meet... what follows is a story filled with twists and turns and pure love!

Mina's finally found love but her ex husband that tried to kill her is released from prison

I would recommend this book for mature readers that enjoy reading stories that are laugh out loud funny, steamy, suspenseful, and romantic.

Run, don't walk

Great read. Entirely plausible story with a few open ends that are part of real life. No one ever knows all the answers to life's questions and I like how this book falls in line with that. Its a 'be your own hero' story. Well written and well read.

I want to start out by saying that I was reading a MOBI formatted file on a Kobo e-reader. The formatting of the book wasn’t great, and that made it somewhat difficult to read. There was no punctuation for the dialogue, and sometimes made it confusing as to where the dialogue started and ended. Not sure if the book I got was faulty in terms of formatting, or if that was just the way it appeared on my reader.

Thomas was a very likable man, even when he was stubbornly refusing help just after his accident. The romance between Thomas and Mina unfolded nicely, it wasn’t too rushed or too slow. Both were experiencing conflicting thoughts and feelings, which is understandable if you take into account their past relationships. I liked the two of them together, and how they developed.

Mina’s children are not mentioned much. The author repeatedly tells us that Mina is a good mother, and Thomas sure thinks it, but there weren’t a lot of actions on Mina’s part to really reinforce this. I also expected some more interaction between Thomas and the children so that at the end it is more believable that there is a growing bond between them.

This was my first Janice Whitaker novel. Overall I liked this story. It was easy and fun to read. I would definitely read more from Janice Whitaker.

A well written book that will capture your attention at the beginning and keep you page turning. Can two strong people who have had bad things happen to them in the past make a second chance work? Lots of emotion as you migrate the world of Mina and Thomas. I originally got this book in September of last year but had not read it. When I received a copy in a free promotion, I read it and wondered why I waited so long. A fun read.
