Nikola Tesla: Prophet Of The Modern Technological Age

Rate this book
Nikola inventor or magician? Tesla was one of the most famous inventors who ever lived, but after his death, he was nearly forgotten. He was a celebrity during the height of America’s Gilded Age. In this book, you will read about his friendship with Mark Twain, his furious competition with his former employer Thomas Edison, his uneasy relationship with billionaire J.P. Morgan, and his rivalry with Albert Einstein. During his lifetime, Tesla revolutionized the field of electrical engineering with his most famous the induction motor. But that wasn’t all he contributed to the world of technology. His coils, turbines, robotic boats, and mysterious “death ray” continue to beguile the imagination and inspire the inventors of the 21st century. But who was Tesla really? This book will take you from his early childhood in Croatia, where he experienced strange optical visions and “luminous phenomenon” that gave him near super-human powers of memory and visualization, to the “War of the Currents”, Thomas Edison’s bizarre campaign to ruin Tesla’s reputation. From trying to fight the Spanish American War with robots, to electrifying the skies of the Colorado desert, and to starting an earthquake in the middle of New York city, learn how Nikola Tesla shaped the world we live in today.

My thoughts are my thoughts... Trying to finish all the books that lay along my shelves... We can never know...

Anyway it has a good introduction that I think summarize the whole book. That's why I shouldn't finished the book, hehe 😊✌🏻️. It's the biography of Nikola Tesla the "father of alternating current" with whom Thomas Edison has been envy of his intelligence.

Before, I know "tesla" as the tower with electric lightning in COC 😊😂. Kidding aside, I heard him through the books in electronics and electrical engineering books in college but I don't bothered because Edison and Faraday is more important. But through this book, I learned that the electricity we are using today is from the brilliant mind of the genius Nikola Tesla. And we can't enjoy the products of Edison (GE) and Whitewesting house... 👏👏👏

See you all friends, God bless us all, Stay Safe, and Good luck 😀♥️

I see that so many other reviewers gave this book five or four star ratings, but I'm going to only give it a three star rating. People were right, this was a very short book for a man who was so important to the world in so many ways. The writing was fine for the most part, but I found it very annoying that the author kept referring back to another book as his primary source (within the text of the book, and not just listed in resources or bibliography). In most research papers you would do something like this, and this book kind of read like a research paper. I kind of got the feeling that maybe I should be reading the book that the author was referring to rather than this book, because it sounded like she did a lot more research and writing about Tesla than Simmons did. This book seemed like a review of the other book...which was kind of odd. The book that Simmons referred to often was Tesla: Man out of Time, by Margaret Cheney.

Now, if you simply want a quick understanding of Tesla, this book was fine. But if you want more information about his work, you are going to have to go elsewhere. His inventions and much of his work was mentioned in passing, but no real in-depth understanding of Tesla's ideas given. One of my big complaints about Kindle Unlimited is the high amount of so-so books in the history and especially the science sections. They seem to put a decent amount of mysteries and fiction books on unlimited which are fairly good...I just finished one I really enjoyed last night. But I'm not pleased with the quality of history and science books put up. I suppose it has to do with costs, but I really wish they would put a few good books in these genres up for those of us who love reading this type of book.

A short introduction into the life of a famous person, this is one of a series of same such books by Michael Simmons. Think of these books as sort of a "Reader's Digest" approach to biography, really just a summary of research taken from other better biographies.
Tesla is such a mysterious figure, something like a man out of time. He deserves to be more well known and appreciated for what he was: a true genius who was as much an artist as a scientist.
While this book is a good starting point for anyone wanting to learn about the enigmatic inventor, it is also very limited in insight and devoid of original scholarship. Irritatingly filled with typographical errors and/or transcription errors, it is a good example of getting what you pay for.

Geniuses are born. Simmons gives a clear view of one of the men who made the 20th Century happen. Without Tesla, much of our modern lifestyle would never have worked. He was Edison's rival! For that attention to detail, I give this 4 stars.

It could not have been written better. I really got to know the man. To be like Tesla is amazing.

As one who has always enjoyed biographies, I enjoyed pouring over and learning more about Nikola Tesla. I was first introduced to his works by my Dad when I was but a wee child, and from then on, I revel – and continue to revel – in any book written about Tesla.

I like the author's writing style and the information heretofore presented.

What a man. I was pleased to hear that his funeral was attended by so many. And I wonder how he would be perceived if he was born 50 years later. Would wealthy men still support him? Or was he born in the time of Edison and Morgan for a reason. A quick read with a great deal of information on a remarkable man. I wonder what he would think of the electric "Tesla" today.

The true story of an unsung hero of science and of mankind.

The man behind the name was as intriguing as the discoveries he shared with the world. The mysteries he left behind will intrigue us for generations to come.
