I grew up in a household with two brothers, a daddy, and my grandfather. Too many men, in other words. They diluted M'ma's influence by diverting my attention to things like the danger of answering nature's call in the dead of the night. I've got a hint for those of you raised in a less spit-and-scratch world: check before you sit, because chances are that seat is gonna be up. And they don't even have the grace to be embarrassed about it. According to my sweet baby boy, if you're the minority sex in the household, you oughtta be putting it up for them. Sigh.

Having brothers was a mixed bag. When anybody messed with me they were always quick with an offer to beat them up. That was sorta nice, although I personally believe it had more to do with the fact that guys just like to fight than with any towering concern for my welfare. You might think that's cynical but guess who the target was if no one else was around and they were tired of fighting each other? I must've spent half my childhood locked in the bathroom, screaming, "Dad's gonna get you when he gets home." I know, I know, nobody likes a stoolie. But it was either that or have my block knocked off on a regular basis, and trust me, Daddy was the best deterrent going.

A smart woman probably would've gone away to an all-girl school or moved in with some girlfriends at the first opportunity. Me, I got married to my high school sweetie. And the tradition continues. Our only kid (who hasn't been a kid for quite some time now) is the aforementioned sweet baby boy, and except for an Irish setter we had for eleven years a long time ago, even our pets have all been male. I just try to stay afloat whenever I find myself in the deep end of the testosterone pool, and if you don't think that isn't a trial sometimes, I'm here to tell you- it can be hell.

Then again, it can also be heaven. In fact, it mostly is. But listen, don't tell my guys I 'fessed up to that, okay? Trust me, it's difficult enough already, just trying to stay one step ahead of the game.

This has been republished but I think the original was back in 1995 and it shows. Both Lon and Mick have testosterone overload, act like Neanderthals and it's difficult to see how they were supposed to be appealing. The suspense element is really lite and just a backdrop to the "romance". But with this type of leading man, there is no romance.

This was a light suspense story that kept my interest throughout. Sometimes Mick was a little too cave man aloha male and Sasha a little too perfect but it worked in the end. It wasn't tough to figure out whodunit but it didn't spoil my level of enjoyment. The story moved at a good pace with good dialogue and the right level of character development. Overall, it's a good story but not at the level of suspense that keeps me on the edge of my seat and speeds up my pulse rate.

Hmm, not sure what to think about this one. Sometimes I am in the mood for a real woman-in-jeopardy-menacing-killer suspense novel. Well, this isn't that. It is ostensibly a suspense novel but it read a bit lighter than, say, a Karen Rose. But that was o.k. actually. I read it in one sitting, almost and it was quick and enjoyable and Susan Andersen writes with a snappy wit.

This is my first Susan Andersen (but not the last) and only the second book set in the professional ice skating world I'd ever read. I liked the setting the most. It was a change of pace to ride along with the large skating outfit as they went from city to city. I do wish she had delved a bit more into more of the personalities than just the key players though. Although you knew it was a large outfit, the author missed an opportunity, imo, to make the setting a bigger character and to use some more of the background characters to explore this very insular and specific world a bit more.

The suspense plot was just so so. The heroine, ice skating star Sasha, is suspected by the hero, undercover DEA agent Mick, of selling drugs. This is because her former doubles partner had been sent to prison for dealing and his un-recovered drug stash has made a reappearance, coincidentally in all the cities the ice tour is visiting. They are immediately attracted to each other, Mick is doubly hard on Sasha because he suspects her but can't reconcile her super sweet innocence with the hard-core drug dealer she is supposed to be. They make eyes at each other. Hijinks ensue.

The romance plot was pretty much by the numbers. Mick has to be made to see what is in front of his face. My biggest peeve is the utter Mary-Sueishness of Sasha. She has it all -- all men want her, practically (if not technically) a virgin, misunderstood all her life, tragic childhood. It was a total pile on.

Even so, though, it was still an entertaining book if only because the villain was such a frothing at the mouth loon who was fun to read about.

I am glad I stumbled across this new-to-me author.

I was initially going to give this 3 stars. The writing is pretty good, the characters are likeable, and there are mystery/suspense elements to keep the story moving along, and I have liked other works by this author.

However, I went with 2 stars. I got halfway through and just couldn't finish it. For some reason I never engaged with the characters; I just never cared enough about them to want to go all they way through to the end.

Skaters...one thought to be into drugs.

This one just didn't live up to Andersen's usual style and content for me

early 90s romantic suspense in the line of sandra brown and linda howard. this was a time capsule, every outdated trope ever was in this book... sexually objectified but inexperienced virginal heroine paired with a misogynistic, borderline abusive alpha male hero. the suspense story served as a vehicle for the romance, which was based on the instant attraction between the characters.
the skating background was a bit more interesting and susan anderson's writing worked well. this was a well written book, but maybe it works more as a historical relic.

Sexy ice skating routines, a sexy undercover agent, and a skating star who ignores her own sexuality because of her past. Sasha is a wonderful character and an exemplary friend to her former skating partner, Lon, who is getting out of prison for selling drugs. I enjoyed the interactions between those two and with Mick, the undercover agent who is convinced that Sasha is selling a deadly drug while touring with the ice show. Another great read from Andersen.

On Thin Ice by Susan Andersen
Sasha Miller was the Olympic medal skater. Her partner, Lonnie Morrison was just released from jail after 5 years for drugs. The cops were not able to charge her at all.
She had to leave the couples section and go back to singles and was on tour on the west coast with the winter ice folly shows.
At the same time the federal agency knows she did play a part and we keep an eye on her-the new manager is an agent.
She has a lot of secrets and finally confides in another skater, Connie.
When the screws on her blade come loose and she falls and hits her head, ends up in hospital then the manager's room I can only think of tonya harding and what she did to nancy kerrigan.
screws just don't get loose, not 4 of them. Lonnie is also hooking up with people from his past, bad scene. Lots of love scenes and others are getting hurt because they look very similar to what she would wear.
She starts piecing things together and fears for her life. Lots of action, adventure, travel and romance. pace is not too fast that you can't follow along. It's a really good mix.

This is a novel about figure skating. The author misspelled the word axel. (Tip: it's named after the first dude to compete the skill.) Some things are just unacceptable.

As a romance, I found On Thin Ice dull. As a murder mystery, I found it unconvincing. Major thumbs down.

I'd never heard of this author and actually found the book while searching for something else on the library catalogue. But it was a nice, light story and I felt it got better the farther into it I got. I'd read other novels by this author.

I made it to page 122. I really tried to finish this book, I really did. I gave it one star based off of what I've already read.
With that being said, I am still going to try to read another book by this author. I know not all books are perfect. I hope I can find one that makes up for this.

I've liked other Susan Andersen books. This was not my favorite, but good. I liked the friendship between Sasha and Connie, and that Connie stood up for herself with Lon. Mick was redeemed from being too much of a jerk alpha-dude because he called his mother! lol

It took me a while to get back to this book and finish it. I actually really enjoyed it, good reminder that strength comes in so many different forms. Thatʻs what I took away from this book, and while I was and still am surprised by that, it was a welcome reminder.

I liked this book, but it was predictable. By the 4th chapter you knew who was going to do what. I would recommend it for an easy read though.
