I've read a lot of books in this genre and honestly, I generally find they get dull fast. Boy meets girl, girl is smitten with boy, boy and girl engage in kinky stuff, romance ensues. Yawn. It's rare that a book can find that unicorn sweet spot between gripping storyline and continuously surprising erotic encounters; but Haruko Minami has certainly accomplished that rare feat. She's created a world that challenges my perception of sexual utopia and pushes it to exciting new places. The sex isn't a subplot to some trite story; the sex IS the story. Each fresh encounter builds upon the last and reveals some fascinating new plot twist that had this reader reconsidering her sexual status quo. Minami does a brilliant job of capturing the private personalities behind strong, complex characters within a feminist, diverse landscape. She seamlessly integrates biomedical fiction and political terrorism into a landscape of sexual freedom; all while preserving the allure. I refreshingly felt neither pandered to nor objectified; free to lose myself in a gripping story and tantalizing fantasies. I couldn't put this one down, and haven't stopped thinking about the ideals and possibilities teased within. Highly recommended.
