Underbelly

My name is Merissa. I am an agent of the Dynomamian Empire. It’s my duty to find people who risk disrupting the Empire’s peace and end them.

My latest assignment? To track down an Underbelly boss and assassinate him.

My motive? He murdered my mother.

The catch? He is also my father.

My secret weapon? Genetic engineering has made me stronger and faster than any other human being.

My disadvantage? My father has also been genetically engineered.

This should be fun.

Hey everyone! Sam here :) Welcome to my author page where you can find all of the books I have published.

Primarily my works will be in Science Fiction and Fantasy but if you want to get into technicalities, they are under the sub-genre of Science Fantasy. There are three main things that you can expect when reading my works, emotional chapter (hearkening back to my more emotional teenage years!), creative science (thanks mom and dad for paying for me to study science in university, love you!) and action.

I have battles with my own demons in my life and one of my tools for keeping them at bay was to write. I genuinely believe that there is no point to life and that it is up to each of us to make a point of it. And part of me making a point of my life is to produce original works that only I can do. If reading my works can help you, whether it is with your own battles or just helps you to understand where others are coming from, then I have achieved what I set out to do!

Underbelly is the first book in the Turf Wars series written by S.P.M. Barrett. Merissa Forts enters the Underbelly, escorted by armed men in turn. As she descends further and further underground, she has her sights on just one man. The leader of this particular Underbelly is none other than her own father, Alastair Forts, and he is eager to give his daughter the grand tour in the hopes that she will join him. Merissa is in awe at the Underbelly’s own source of food, shelter and power, as well as the genetically modified animals which lived underground. Images of her mother throughout the fortress are a stark reminder of the reason she had come – to kill her mother’s assassin, her father. Her resolve weakens, however, when she is introduced to her young cousins and siblings who seem fascinated by her. Merissa also learns that not everything is as she had believed, when her father professes to tells the truth about what had happened the night that Merissa’s mother died. Now all Merissa needs to do is sort the truth from the lies before her time runs out.

Underbelly is a tale of intrigue and mystery, which took me to a whole new world and a different reality. Each page brought new and unexpected revelations, calling into question who and what could be trusted in a seedy underworld where the power of bluff is an everyday occurrence. While some polishing is needed, Underbelly presents a plot born of sheer brilliance and a great imagination. I salute S.P.M. Barrett’s ability to present such unbelievable and shocking characters in a realistic fashion. The vehemence that Merissa feels towards her father is understandable, but transforms more into a father-daughter relationship filled with an unguarded trust as the story continues. The main characters of the story are well written and easy to identify with. I enjoyed this action-packed adventure and recommend Underbelly to those over the age of 15 who enjoy crime novels wrapped in a majorly explosive dose of sci-fi and revenge.

This is an exceptional book. I was hung on every word in every sentence in every paragraph. With a not so typical story line, this sci-fi/crime/mystery novel provides every emotion for a thrilling and utter brilliant reading experience.
It would be an absolute shame not to see more from this talented author. I am in adoration of his passion to write, and how well he does it.

Highly recommend, unless you don't enjoy great books.
