First let my start off with what I liked. It provides hope that achieving full recovery IS possible. I liked that Elisa uses a variety of sources to back up her claims and even provides additional links to more information. I also think this book has so so so many helpful tips and is very much a how to recover book. It does a good job at going in the order of what should be done to recover before doing the next thing. Like focusing on nutritional rehabilitation and all the physical symptoms you can expect, then working on the mental aspect of eating disorders, the period of extreme hunger that often happens, then being able to reach normal hunger cues/eating. I think this is a great book especially for those recovering from bulimia since the author had it herself.
I didn’t like how repetitive the information was. This book could have been a lot shorter. The repetitiveness made me feel very overwhelmed at times because it was a lot of “how to” stuff that was said over and over in different sections. I also said that I liked Elisa included many sources. But some times there was too much. Just studies, stories, etc presented back to back that made me lose my attention. And I do not struggle with bulimia, but anorexia, so some of the advise did not seem helpful to me.
I say give this book a try if you are lost and don’t know where to start in your recovery. It is a very good step by step guide with lots of different things to try to find what works for you. However, you have to want and be ready to recover if you want to get anything out of this book.
