Writing is my bliss and I try to write every day. I started with two publishers who I learned a lot from. Now I self publish. I like the control it gives me over release dates and book covers.
Just finished reading all three in the trilogy. I enjoyed the stories and liked all the characters. The books could be improved with better editing… grammar mistakes annoy me.
I am loving this series and this just warmed my heart. Cecily was another victim of a false mail order bride request. When she arrived in town, the man took her to the Indians and she was tortured and abused until she was rescued. Shane is the sheriff and he has tried to keep an eye on her but she keeps wandering off when she has one of her nightmares, so he suggest she come work for him and help him build his farm. All goes well until a long lost "friend" of his boyhood shows up and tries to cause trouble. A journey to understanding and forgiveness of what life has dealt but the strength to go on to live and love. I adored these two and the narrator Julie Hoverson was her usual excellent self that was perfect for this amazing story.
This is a story of healing and overcoming shame. It's about recognizing the pain and looking forward to a future. It's about a very patient sheriff and a woman who was terrorized by a vicious Indian tribe. It's about how the town saw her and small minded people, but most importantly how Cecily saw herself. This story is excellent and the author doesn't minimize Cecily's pain. Shane helps Cecily to see herself through his eyes, eyes filled with love for a beautiful woman, no matter what she has been through, maybe even because of it. Cecily shows a strength of character regardless of what she has been through, and no matter what other people think about her. This story is inspirational for women who strive to overcome shame and deprecation.
The dialogue let's the author's books down. It is so stilted and unrealistic. There is also the unfinished dialogue and the constant misinterpretation and not asking for clarification. So frustrating. The secondary characters brought nothing to the story. They were simply padding. Shane, the hero allowed a lot of hurtful things to be said to our heroine without comment. So many ridiculous scenes. eg Why would a sheriff send a message to the heroine via a young boy, telling her to hide because Indians are coming for her, but not go himself???
I enjoyed this short but angsty one. Less than 250 pages. Same like Cinder's Bride, the reason for the lack of stars was because of the ending. It's the same; no proper leading up to the conclusion. Suddenly, the Hero just proclaimed his love and all is well. Bullshit. That sucks. All these times ... there should be a bit of begging, a bit of groveling, a bit of pleading, a bit of trying to locate the heroine - the heroine should distance herself from him or something. Anyways, a pleasant one to pass the time but it had such potential.
This is a great book by Kathleen Ball and I enjoyed reading it. A lot of sadness and a lot happiness. Mail Order Bride, a woman to pay a debt, indians, beatings, scared, nightmares, running, running, a sheriff, a home,a young boy, ridicule, insults, unexpected guests, finding love?, a happy ever after? I would recommend this book to everyone. Buy it and read what happens.
Shane is the new sheriff in town. He rescues a white woman being held by Indians. She keeps running away and he goes looking for her again. This is the last time he vows. It is a simple story of a woman shunned by her own kind because she didn't kill herself. Shane offers her a job as his housekeeper.
During this period of time women were never considered victims. But were treated as if their captivity was their fault. But this women was a good example of the emotional torture that occurred when rescued.
The characters of this story, Shane's Bride, is a story of suspense, crime, friendship, and romance. The author gave the friends a chance to get to know one another and join in a common cause.
I feel so good, what a story! The pain that some of these characters went through is just unimaginable. Pioneers had such strength of character. The storyline was fabulous, kept me enthralled to the end.
I really love the stories and the characters in Ms. Ball's books. I have yet to be disappointed. As usual I am reading out of order so going back to the begining of the series.
She had been a mail order bride. But when she arrived in the West, she didn't become his wife. It was torture for her. And life would never be any different for her. But then the sheriff found her
Shane's Bride is book Three of the series by Kathleen Ball. It's a romance with Indians and bank robbery. The romance is sweet. I enjoyed reading this book and you will too.
Loved this book. Even though things were bad from the start there was no way she would kill herself. Courage comes in many different forms and women in the old west had as much as the men.
Shane the town sheriff was a good man but lonely. Cecily was a mail order bride that got given to an Indian that did horrible things to Cecily. Read about the life that they built and all the problems they went through
Before I started reading these I would have said their not my cup of tea, boy was I wrong. These are great little stories that keep your interest . Can't get enough of them.
