I bought this as a coffee table book and it only makes sense to rate it as such. Lots of great photographs and 3D model recreations, which help illustrate the subject matter. Good for some light, historical reading.
Ancient Egypt published by Parragon Books tells a story of the civilizations of the Nile Valley from farmers to the Pharaohs. The book’s contents included the following: Chapter 1. Fascinated by Egypt, Chapter 2. History and Organization of the State, Chapter 3. Society and Daily Life, Chapter 4. Mythology and Religion, and Chapter 5. Art and Culture. Egyptian Pharaohs enjoyed a dual nature of being both human and divine. The society had a social model based on the caste system. And the pyramids embodied the architectural grandeur of eternity of both life on earth and the afterlife. Egyptians developed science and were artistically gifted, and there existed many prominent aesthetic structures. Many civilizations are indebted to Egypt for its agricultural accomplishments, discoveries in the field of medicine, and in science. Egypt is also known for its wall paintings, classical literature, and philosophy. All these achievements came from communities on the banks of the River Nile, the cradle of Egypt’s civilization. Its beginnings stretched from the 1st to the 8th Dynasty when the first pyramids arose on the horizon. From the 9th to the 12th Dynasty when there was conflict between Upper and Lower Egypt. From the 13th Dynasty to decadence after a wave of invasions that occurred before the Roman conquest.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this very informative and impeccably researched tome on Ancient Egyptian civilization. From the time I was a young boy, I always had a fascination with Egyptology, especially the religious beliefs of this people that focused on the afterlife and all related rituals. Had I not become a liturgical scholar, and if I were younger, I would have opted to go back to school and obtained a third doctorate just in this field. The book is written in an understandable language that is inviting and at the same time serious in tone, adding to the electric atmosphere that hovers over this vast area of sociology and history. The photos and diagrams, the electronically-generated slides, and the artwork are vivid, colorful, and simply amazing, and "amazing" is too weak of a word to describe how I truly feel. This book is an absolute must in every scholar's library, as well as on every aficionado's coffee table!
I loved every bit of this work! This work is rich in every context, be it images, text or explanations. It gives detailed timelines and the digital illustrations are really wonderful. Apart from that, real photographs of ancient Egyptian artifacts are also provided. A nice book.
The pictures were great. Nice light read on ancient Egypt. If it were more in depth would have given more stars. Also not sure why it had to have a section dedicated to Christianity. Seemed like the author had a hidden motive.
