At the 22% point in this story I wrote:

"It's looking pretty much as expected in my review of the last book.

"To retake control of the United States of America. To reestablish the constitution and free the people, as was originally intended.

That's the light on the hill? Cindy asked in amazement?. ..taken from billions everywhere by Hudich and his followers..." [including ISIS]
The story gets more Mormon by the page.."

Now that I've finished here's the full critical review.

Cochrane has maintained his even writing and storyline. He's a good storyteller. I'd happily have given him four stars....

But.

As I read this book I really had to ask: had the entire series been a setup for "alt-right kids' lite" propagandizing? Every good story needs convincing baddies. The mishmash of anti-Muslim, America the beacon on the hill besieged by enemies foreign and domestic, the rot of an America that had cravenly caved in to Communists, Socialists, Marxists and Muslims could be pretty heavy-handed for a 12-16, year old youth readership. Then there's the Mormon prophecy left behind stuff. Sigh...

On the other hand, maybe Cochrane got it right. Considering how the Tsar gave the keys to the White House to someone determined to destroy everything the US of A has been trying to convince the rest of the world it stood for. Dictatorships around the world are heartened. Old evil Empires are amassing troops, materiel and territory. Is it 1938 déjà vu?
Maybe Cochrane just named the wrong baddies.

Either way, unless the kids are preppers reading The Reign of Hudich in their hidy holes in bunkers far far away, the question remains : has this book crossed the line and become alt-right propaganda for teens?

The saga continues with Max and Cindy doing everything they can to fight Hudich. But he is not the only thing they have to fight though. The Dark Society has taken over the United States. Can they pull this off. Magic, danger, and betrayal is the main theme in this wonderful fantasy. Start from the beginning and follow along for a great adventure.
