Even though I have not read all of Bertolt Brecht's plays, I feel that Calabro does not do justice to Brecht. While I understand that it is never useful to put anyone on the pedestal, the impression I get from Calabro's writing is that he is trying to place Brecht on the other end of the spectrum or at the bottom of the pile. In my opinion, his overall analysis of the contradictions in Brecht's work, arguing that Brecht is NOT a good writer is too strongly opinionated and it does not really convince me.
