> Cruise Control Is Book 6 In The Cruise Ship Christian Cozy Mysteries Series BONUS: Recipes Included!
The long anticipated, epic cruise adventure is finally here! Two worlds collide when Gloria and the Garden Girls meet up with Gloria's cousin, Assistant Cruise Director, Millie Sanders and her crew aboard the passenger cruise ship, "Siren of the Seas."
Almost immediately, suspicions are raised when a group of mysterious passengers board and then head straight to the bridge for a private meeting with the captain. Not long after, Andy Walker, Millie's boss, tells her the ship will have some "temporary" staff boarding for this cruise, something that has never happened before.
Later, after the ship sets sail, Millie stops by to greet the captain and Scout, and sparks fly when the captain invites Millie to dine with him in his apartment the following evening.
When Millie arrives for her dinner date the next night, she discovers the bridge is locked and no one will answer the door.
At first, Millie is heartbroken, believing she has been stood up, but soon discovers that something sinister is going on inside the bridge after communications onboard are cut off and the ship stops moving.
Will Millie and her friends, with some help from Gloria and the Garden Girls, be able to figure out who has taken control of their cruise…or will they all become dead in the water?
Millie has her cousins coming on the ship Gloria and Liz, along with a few of their friends. If you haven't read the Garden Girls series you will after you meat Gloria and her crew.
Even before the ship leaves port things are going on that seem suspicious. A group of passengers aboard and they rush right to the bridge. After they talk to the captain, Andy tells Millie they will have some temporary staff helping on the cruise.
Millie arrives for the dinner date with the captain but she can't get on the bridge and her card is not working. The the ship is not moving. All comminutions are off and everyone starts to wonder what is going on. The ship has been hijakced and they have to save not only the hostages on the bridge but the ship itself.
Gloria and her friends start to help, with Ruth and her spy equipment and Annette with her know how ,things are starting to heat up. Can they save the shop before time runs out?
Now this was a little bit exciting to see both Gloria and Millie together. Some of the things they get into and too funny and you will be turning the pages fast to see what happens. The series is getting better as it goes along.
Maybe I couldn't get into this one because I'm jumping in on #6 of the series, but it seemed like a jumbled mess of characters. If I ever go back and read earlier books in the series, I'll revisit this one and possibly revise my rating, but there were typos, too. Also, I've been on quite a few cruises over the years, on various cruise lines, and I've never been on a cruise where they allow the crew to eat at the same buffets as the passengers. Anyone else? Seriously never seen it happen. Maybe "Siren of the Seas" is more fictional than usual. The plot was fine. Callaghan make a believable mystery. Good thing all her friends happened to be on the cruise with her; otherwise, they may not have solved it. Can't imagine the maintenance crew would really be okay with passengers hanging off their balconies, though, even in these situations. Also, how is Millie Sanders Assistant Cruise Director if she's nervous in front of groups of people? Doesn't seem like a good fit there.
Even though I am not entirely caught up on the Garden Girls series, I cannot even begin to explain how good of an idea this author had mixing her quirky characters in to a book!
I've never read a series quite like this, it is cleaner than clean and I love it!! This one was a page turner for sure, I felt like I was on the cruise with these ladies and it even made me want to take one!! (Minus the hijacking and mystery) :)
The flow of this entire book was fantastic, I think if anyone needs writing advice, heading to Hope Callaghan would be a good bet! She writes beautifully and I feel like I can see myself and my friends right in there with her characters. There may be a little of Gracie and Millie in my life!! The trouble they get into is always a blast to read and this book was no different!
Wow!!!! Gloria and the Garden Girls are on a cruise ship where Gloria's cousin Millie works. There is double trouble as that set out to solve another mystery. The characters and storyline was very entertaining, with lots of drama and suspense. I look forward to the next book.
OH I AM SO HAPPY I FINISHED THIS BOOK AND THAT THE 'GUEST STARS' ARE GONE! YAY! BACK TO THE REGULARLY SCHEDULED PROGRAMMING AS OF BOOK 7!!!
PREMISE: Millie's Gardening Club friends come aboard and the Siren of the Seas is taken hostage. But who is the mole? Join Millie and alllll her little friends as we try to solve many mysteries!
THOUGHTS: Ok, ok, ok my premise was way to biased but seriously this book is one (for me) to read and forget! I am SO HAPPY that I had read the first 5 before this one, otherwise I would've probably quite the series and I LOVE this series!
Firstly to these Garden Club Ladies - We could not escape them even if we wanted to! I mean...people have told me about 'guest star' books and how the 'guest star' is a side appearance. Not in this one. They were there the...entire...time! (I haven't read the garden club series, I don't plan to now! lol). Secondly to the perspectives. I mean, ok, it's more like Omniscient narration in a whirl wind! Because, to use a 'not in the book' example let's say this happened:
George looked out over the bay, it was a beautiful morning and the salty air filled his nostrils. MMM he thought, fresh sea air. Robert came in the room thinking about last nights dinner. The steak was lovely, but the chef could've used more lemon he thought. Cody spied the sea gull on deck and knew it was going to be a long night.
NO, this is not 3 seperate sentances! This is what a paragraph would be like! It was so hard to follow along with what was going on!!
Now, please know, that I am all for multi-perspective books and all for omniscient narration, but the reason it simply DOES NOT WORK in Cozies is because they are waaayyyy to short!!!!! If we're spending what little time we have head hopping from one person's experience to another, how in the world can we be expected to focus on anything, let alone the mystery?!?
The sad thing is, the mystery actually sounded exciting! The boat is hijacked and we suspect a mole! Who is the mole? How did the hijacking happen? Why did it happen?
The reality is... who cares? We can't even focus enough to try and enjoy the mystery!
Thirdly, where was my "fun walk around the ship"? This definitely did not read like a regular Millie Cruise Ship because nowhere did we get to have a nice walk around the ship and see all the day to day goings on.
I get it Hope Callaghan, I do. You wanted to merge the two series and I can totally get onboard with that. I just think it came at the absolute cost of what you've built up so far. Don't worry though, I already had both book 6 & 7 on my TBR for this month, so I am 100% diving right into book 7 right away as I NEED to get back to the regularness of this series and prontinto!!!
I should've DNF'd but I kept going just in case something came up that I needed to know moving forward, but frankly there isn't. Y'all can absolutely skip this one.
2 Stars
(But only because I can't justify giving a 1 star to Hope Callaghan who normally writes books I love!).
Really enjoy this book due to the fast nature of the storyline. Millie is a well developed character and is always at the centre of all the trouble. A* read
Cruise Control is the sixth book in Hope Callaghan’s Cruise Ship Christian Cozy Mysteries Series and is a delightful and fun read. This book quickly became a page-turner and kept my interest from beginning to end, with twists and turns appeared around every corner, and the laughs kept coming too. Ms. Callaghan has written another book with a well-plotted storyline, well-developed and fun characters, and an intriguing mystery to try to solve. I love reading a good Whodunit with no foul language, graphic violence, or sexually explicit scenes. Ms. Callaghan is a blessing to her readers and I highly recommend all of her books to anyone who enjoys reading light, cozy Christian mysteries.
Gloria Rutherford-Kennedy, her sister, Liz, and the Garden Girls are finally going on their long awaited girls’ cruise on the Siren of the Seas. Gloria is excited about and cruise and seeing her cousin, Millie Sanders who is the Assistant Cruise Director. Millie is looking forward to seeing her cousins and meeting their friends but she’s also a little anxious because she knows Gloria, like herself, has a penchant for ending up in sticky situations and she’s hoping for an uneventful cruise. Captain Niccolo “Nic” Armati has returned from his leave and Millie is looking forward to seeing him and Scout, the Captain’s teacup Yorkie and her sidekick. Captain Armati invites Millie to dine with him the following evening but when she arrives, she finds the bridge locked which is unusual and no one responds to her knocks. Millie is taken aback and she doesn’t understand what is happening but it doesn’t take long for her to realize the ship has stopped sailing and to learn that communications onboard have been cut off.
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
For most of the story, I was bored. Yes, we are introduced to some characters from another related series, cousin Gloria and the gang, and yes, they're cute and quirky, but not a whole lot happens considering what happens. At least until the end.
Bad guys take over the ship, but you really wouldn't know it. They're holed up on the Bridge of the ship and there's no interaction with them until late in the story. We see the ship stopped and the passengers complaining about that and no cell service or internet. There were some people that disappeared, and some feeble attempts to look into the Bridge through some side windows that got a bit comical, but that was the extent of the action. At least until the end.
The slowly developing romance, if you want to call it that, between Millie and the Captain has slowed to a crawl between his taking off for vacation and in this book having hardly any scenes at all. I'm glad Millie has a romantic interest, but this pairing seems to be slightly contrived and low in chemistry. Not expecting any raunchy scenes, I'd delete the book if it had them, but that romance is written as if... Millie's character needs a bit of romance, let's let the Captain crush on her but not talk much about it. Otherwise, you don't even see them react. He doesn't leave the Bridge much.
I really enjoy reading about Millie Sanders and her friends. They are so clever and fun. This cruise combines sleuths from both the Cruise Ship Christian Cozy Mystery series and her cousin Gloria from the Garden Girls. They are something when they are together.
All 8 friends are getting comfortable on the ship and meeting Millie's friends and coworkers. Maybe they are getting too comfortable, because when a mystery turns up on board they are all searching for clues and bringing out the suitcases of equipment.
Millie was hoping to get closer with Captain Armati now that he is back from his vacation. But there is a problem on the ship. The ship is sitting at a dead stop in the middle of the Caribbean. The Captain is missing and some strangers are walking about on the bridge.
A fast read with lots of humor and just a touch of romance. I love these characters. They are well written and easy reads. I also like that this book is a nice clean Christian mystery.
It is great seeing Millie interact with the other crew members. There is a bit of competition between Gracie and Millie. It is great fun to read. Another perfectly adorable cozy mystery book by Hope Callaghan.
If you like cozy mysteries then you will love Millie in this book and in the whole Cruise Ship Christian Cozy Mystery Series. This is book six of the series.
I love Millie's adventures because it is like taking a cruise without having to hop a plane.
I felt this story was a little messy and until the ending was boring. I have never read the sister series, so Can not say much about it, however, if that is a taste of the characters I will not be likely to check those books out. I hated the cousins and there friends, they just seemed to be full of nothing worth reading about. the overall plot was boring and not realistic.I had wished for this to be better but the whole book just fell flat for me , the one thing I enjoyed that did not make me bored out of my mind was the shooting at the end of the book, it was fun and interesting and left me with a lot of questions.

Highly recommended I get it in in read it and enjoy!Hugs
I try to read every one of this series. I went so far as to buy some to make sure I did :-) as a rule my books are free, I get them from Amazon. This story was more intense than most of them. I enjoyed the story I think it was well written, and a lot of research went into preparing the story. I like the way it ended and I'm really glad the person that was guilty was that person :-) because I'm so familiar with the people on the ship, I'm really not surprised this was this person! Again if you get this book I think you will not be disappointed :-)
Another excellent book in the Cruise Ship series, a Christian cozy mystery.. I liked this one a lot more than the last one. Millie ' s cousins, Gloria & Liz from the Garden Girls series plus several of their friends are on board the ship. Millie notices there is extra security on board. Then there seem to be problems with the ship. What is going on? Millie & friends plus the Garden Girls work together to figure out what is going on. The characters continue to evolve. There is an intriguing mystery, humor, friendship, a little romance. Everything I like in a cozy mystery.
Cruise Control, the sixth book in Hope Callaghan's Cruise Ship Mysteries, is full of action! Assistant Cruise director of Sirens of the Sea, Millie Sanders, welcomes her cousins and their friends aboard. Gloria Rutherford-Kennedy, Liz Applegate, Lucy, Margaret, Dot, Andrea, Ruth, and Frances end up doing some "sleuthing" along side Millie and her friend Annette. Captain Armati and his Yorkie, Scout, have returned but the ship's security is in danger. There is never a dull moment on the ship when Millie is around! This is a fun entertaining read.
A humorous high seas mystery. This was an enjoyable read which made me want to be on a cruise to the Caribbean. Having family on the island of St Croix, I was excited that it was mentioned in the story.. The fact that the girls were eating throughout the story made me chuckle "Yep, that's cruising." Don't expect anything deep, just a couple of hours that will have you wanting to book your next cruise.
Millie is excited about her cousins and their friends coming for a cruise. All the Garden Girls including Liz and Frances arrive. After the first stop the ship suddenly stops in the middle of nowhere, it's been hijacked. Gloria and the girls have their work cut out for them. Great story with the characters from the two series combined working together.
I have basically read this entire series (17 books so far, I think)...they are fun and fluffy and clean. I love the Christian aspect, I love the CRUISING aspect, and the characters are pretty likable... (though admittedly, I sometimes roll my eyes at Millie getting involved once more in something or someplace she has no business being---but since that is the premise of the entire series...there you have it!) Enjoyable "summer" read, all year round.
This was especially heart pounding. The planning that went into the hijacking was well thought out. Maybe I should just dream about another cruise instead of going on one. This book was really scary. Hijackings have happened before with very sad endings for some passengers. The book was well thought out. The drama and suspense were top notch. The books truly do keep getting better and better.
I love reading these cruise line books. I have been on lots of cruises myself, and when I read these books, I feel like I am back in a cruise. I love the characters and the interactions. These books are always an easy and pleasurable read. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a cozy mystery and fun characters.
It was pretty far fetched with the storyline. I know these are fun books, but the believability is getting harder and harder with each book. I originally really liked the series. Now the last two books, I read through the end really fast--more like skimming. I'll read #7, and then decide from there if I want to read the rest.
In this installment of the cruise ship series, Millies cousins and friends board the ship for a well deserved vacation. Gloria and her friends are sleuths in their own right and help out when the ship gets hijacked. A little food, a little fun and a little intrigue as this story unfolds.
This was a funny story but very far fetched. What I liked best was having the Garden Girls join Millie on the cruise. Perhaps cruise mysteries just aren't for me. If there are any other cruise mysteries in the series, I don't care to read them. What led me to these was the mention of Millie in the Garden Girl series.
This is a cross over with the author's Garden Girls series. I've not read any of the Garden Girls but it appears, based on this novel, that Millie's cousin has the same type of adventures, but on land. This offering was much less believable. I appreciated that it tied up a loose end regarding a character from the previous books.
I love Hope Callaghan books, grab a cup of tea and this book and you will enjoy a cruise with a cast of very funny older ladies. So get prepared to read till the end. I never guessed who done it till the very end.
Love this series! Millie and the gang find mystery's on every cruise! This book has it all, people going overboard, and a crew member traitor. Of course, you cannot forget the dog!
I had to stop reading my Garden Girls Mysteries and read about the cruise so to keep the series in sequence! I'm glad I did! Lots of action in this book. I didn't stop reading till I reached the end!!!! Time for a nap!
I really enjoy reading this series, as it reminds me of our time cruising. This mystery is fun, with the protagonist NOT getting into any big trouble, but still helping to solve the mystery and get things back on track. A good, clean, fun story!
Once again Hope Callaghan has achieved a stellar tail of high jinks and mystery on the worm blue sea .This time not only Millie with friends and companions onboard ship but also family chase down the bad guys. Time to jump aboard this series and join in the fun. Kat
Wow! What a ride this book was! Hijackers, kidnappers, ransom demands,, and family visits all in the same week! It was great to have Gloria and her cohorts from Michigan join Millie. What fun.😀
In the sixth book the story is a little harder to take then the earlier books. Still Millie and friends along with some of Millies family that are passengers are fun to follow. Looking forward to the next book
