The Marvel Platinum series is basically a greatest hits album of stories from that particular character's back catalogue. It covers origin stories, the biggest story and character developments as well as the end of a character's run which usually finds them in retirement or at the end of their life. I recently read this Daredevil edition of marvel platinum and thoroughly enjoyed it, it gave me an insight into a character I knew little of and was prompted to find out more after enjoying the tv show. The only issue with this format is that yes it is a comprehensive history of the character but you only get the editions with the big stories in, you obviously don't get the whole story so you are left wondering what occurred before or after the events depicted in this best of collection.
The final pages of the book do include an intense written history of everything which does answer a few of these questions but I think instead I may seek out the original unabridged stories for Daredevil and any other characters that spark my interest.

A collection of stories from Daredevil's career, showcasing the character and his development over the years. Overall, an enjoyable read, but not necessarily approachable as a stand-alone read: some of the included stories are incomplete - you either jump in in the middle of the story or the story lacks the finale and you jump to another story some years down the line, never finding out how Daredevil survived a deadly trap, for example.

This is perhaps best for someone who has read the comics over the years and just wants to be reminded of some of the main events.

Four stars not five - extremely enjoyable read, but I don't really think it deserves the title "Definitive". It's an excellent collection showcasing how Daredevil's caracter has changed with different art and writing styles, but it definitively leaves you wanting more - which is not necessarily a bad thing ;)
