I write a lot of paranormal books for someone who is afraid of the dark. And I wonder why I have to sleep with the lights on. Sometimes life is a teenaged B horror movie and I'm the one who investigates when the scary music is playing. But the voices are calling and resistance is… Yes. I am a Star Trek geek, too. And a fan of RPG’s. With a slight coolness factor since I've been told I'm allowed to join the pops.

Naw. I like being a nerdy girl :)

Eve (The Eternal Daughter Series Book 1) by Patti Larsen is a wonderful fantasy tale with mythology thrown in there, which I love. Eve is a product of Life and Death. They came together to have a child, although it was forbidden, they did it anyway. Now Eve, 16, is a failure as an angel of Life like her sisters and a angel of death like her brothers. Her failures cause pain in the long run to those mortals she has tried to help and to her parents and siblings. She struggles to find who she is and what is her gift/purpose. When she does, everything changes. Wonderful story! Had me from page one! Love mythology and it had the Fate sisters, Destiny, and so many side characters/ creatures. Great fun, dialogue, twists, turns, and surprises. Loved it!!!

Eve is the first book of the Eternal Daughter series by Patti Larsen.
I received this book free through Kindle Scout. I voted for this book to be published and for this I 'won' a free book. Free or bought, this book is worth reading.
I was caught in the story from the start, a girl born of Life and Death who seems not to be able to do anything right by either parent. You'll feel for Eve, who never seems to get anything right, but she's a survivor and it's her journey to find out why things seem to work in reverse for her (anything else gets into spoiler alert area). The characters were well written, and had depth.
The story held my interest and was well developed … the farther into the story I got, the more I didn't want to put it down. I just kept wondering what was going to happen to Eve. She didn't become what I thought she was going to become at the end… but the 'unveiling' did make sense at the end.
If you liked her other books, you'll really enjoy this book. If you've never read her books, read this one a see what you've been missing.

Very awesome! I'm in love with this book! The story is unlike anything I've ever read before... It's about how Life and Death meet and have a child together and she's not like everyone else and she finds out she's destined to be something MORE!!!! I was intrigued from the very first page I could tell right away that I was going to love this book... It was unique in its own way! The world the author created is amazing filled with many different types of creatures and described with such beauty and clarity!!! I couldn't put my kindle down I became attached to the story and the characters I was afraid I'd miss something if I left!!! It's an addicting story!!! Id definitely recommend this book!!!

I really liked this unique paranormal story and kept turning the pages to find out exactly what Eve's purpose in life is as the daughter of Life and Death. There were several unexpected twist that kept me on my toes. I look forward to continuing on with the series.

I really enjoyed Patti Larsen's Hayle Coven series, so when I found out she was doing a new series, I decided to check it out. But unfortunately, I didn't enjoy this book very much.

I have a lot of issues with this book, the biggest being that it seems like a prologue. We're introduced to the self-pitying, rather pathetic Eve and the family that despises her (more on that later). And that's basically the whole book-- an introduction to Eve and her family. A whole lot of nothing happens, and most of the book is taken up by Eve complaining about her life. It went on for so long that when I checked my progress of the book, I was surprised to find that I'd reached the 70% mark.

Another issue is Eve. I don't like her. I was expecting a Syd-like character, someone tough who doesn't take crap from anyone. But Eve was pretty much the opposite of that. She got pushed around, emotionally abused, and treated wrongly, and all she did was huddle up and cry about it. Now she does have some weird Empathy thing where she's directly affected by people's emotions, so the hate literally crippled her. Like I get that, but there was nothing in her that decided to stand up to her family, or be strong, or anything. She ALLOWED herself to be crippled, and that's where my issue lies. She didn't say or do anything to make me think that she didn't want to be treated this way. All she did was feel sorry for herself and complain that no one loved her. Which might have been true, but she shouldn't have let that define her. But she did. Her whole life revolved around letting herself being mistreated and feeling sorry about it. She doesn't even have a personality.

The only time Eve did stand up for herself was when she was influenced by some sort of power that made her arrogant and prevented her from being affected by people's feelings and emotions. So even though she wasn't being a doormat anymore, I couldn't feel like she was actually growing a backbone and standing up for herself because it wasn't HER. She didn't think "You know what, I'm done taking all of this crap" and decide to do something. No, she was influenced, basically controlled, by the Mist. So her newfound "spunk" didn't satisfy me because as I said, if she stands up for herself, it should come from within, it shouldn't come from being controlled.

Now back to the point about her whole family hating her. I could never feel bad for her or hate her family because the hate didn't seem realistic. It was all "Eve, you're pathetic. You're worthless. You're nothing." Which, yeah, are hurtful words, but if you write a character with no depth or backstory or anything, how am I, as a reader, supposed to be convinced by the actions of this "evil" character? Because her siblings have no depth and aren't fleshed out-- their sole purpose for being in the book is to shoot rude words Eve's way. It would have been more convincing if each character had a discernible personality with actual depth. If the characters seemed more like actual people, their feelings would make more sense and be more impactful. Because it was like the author decided that Eve needed to be an abused, and pitiful character so she threw in some people who would be rude to her so the readers would feel bad.

That happens a lot in books. The author creates a mean character whose only purpose is to be mean, but besides that, the character is completely irrelevant. I don't like that. I think that if you're creating a mean character, give them drive and depth to make them more realistic.

I'm actually really disappointed because I love Patti Larsen and wanted to love this book. But I just didn't, I gotta be honest. There wasn't really anything I enjoyed about the book and I'm not sure I'll be reading on.

OMG...there's a new hellion in town and her name is Eve!

Patti Larsen has another winner and I'm hanging on for the ride. If Eternal daughter Eve is anything like Sydlynn Hayle of the Hayle Coven Novels and Hayle Coven Destinies hold on tight. I love Syd and I see Eve will grow into a powerhouse that will match her toe to toe.
The story starts out with a young awkward Eve not sure of her place in the family. Eve is ridiculed by her siblings and others who think she's a failure. As the story progresses, Eve begins to wonder about who she really is and soon discovers she's a force of nature. I hope Ms Larsen is hearing Eve's voice for a long time to come because I look forward to seeing Eve evolve as she did the character of Sydlynn Hayle.

After voting for this book through the Kindle Scout program, I was so excited when it was chosen by Amazon for publication! The summary for the story sounded so interesting and it did not disappoint! I did have a slight reservation that it might be a bit predictable and/or like many other stories of it's kind, but I was quite surprised. Just when I thought I MIGHT have it figured out, it went in a totally different direction that I never would have imagined and it kept me up reading until the wee hours. Great read!

Different

This was something different from normal reads, a great different. I enjoyed everything about this book. Eve pulled on my heartstrings but also had me yelling at her to toughen up. I really loved the story, the Life and Death angle in this book is something new and exciting! I really want to get my hands on the next book!! I recommend this to all who love fantasy, it's definitely one I'll be recommending often!!

Love this !

This book was awesome!

The only concern is how difficult it was to keep up with. Each paragraph would have so much detail in it, that some of it wasn't necessary and made you slightly concerned. I found myself rereading sections trying to make sense of it.

However, it ended perfectly. I was not expecting it to end that way and will definitely read the next book to find out what happens next !

I know Patti Larsen as a fellow maritimer and Kindle Press Author. I nominated this novel way back when it was first entered into the Kindle Scout campaign. The only problem is I read about as slowly as a snail in amber.

All right, so snails probably don't read, but if they did read they'd probably want to read a book as good as this one.

So much for suspense. I just gave the whole entire plot-line of this review away, now didn't I?

Yup, you guessed it. I liked this book. I'm a big fan of Neil Gaiman and I could see his inspiration shining through this entire novel. This book opens the door to a very intriguing world that is very clearly inspired by Neil Gaiman's Sandman series.

Now I am not trying to say that Patti outright copied Gaiman's masterpiece. It is more along the lines of her taking the same paints that Gaiman used and maybe even the same paintbrushes and painting herself a entire new universe. There is some very intriguing world-building going on here and it does not surprise me one little bit that Patti Larsen has gone on to write three more books in this series.

In fact, I would whole-heartedly recommend this book as a great read for fans and lovers of the Paramystical.

What's Paramystical?

I probably ought to explain seeing as I just invented the term - or at least I think I did - and I don't necessarily trust my own thoughts right now as I am recovering from a four-day really bad bout with a really mean plague virus. I haven't eaten much in the last four days and my electrolytes are seriously out of whack and I probably SHOULDN'T be trusted with a keyboard - but here goes nothing.

Well, while paranormal deals with humanity's interaction with the likes ghosts and mermaids and other mythical beings - paramystical is more along the lines of humanity's interaction with celestial beings like gods and angels and death-incarnate.

Am I making sense?

In any case, this book is a GREAT introduction to a wonderfully intriguing fictional universe and I believe that if you enjoy that sort of a read you are going to pick this one book up and read it and run right on ahead to read the other three books.

That's right - this book EVE is about as catchy as a Noro-virus.

I had no idea what to expect when I got this book and it was an incredible journey through history, through spiritual faith and through mythology.
The readers that might think they know the truth of creationg will get a slap in the face from reading this book. Of course, it's fantastic narrative is not pure facts or even the truth, but it is an awesome twist of what we already know, and what we know we ignore from the story of creation.
Those who are purist in faith should not read this book, which is only for those who have an open mind. The story of Life, Death and their common creation as well as what we think Creation is, is one of a unique perspective that I think only Patti Larsen could come up with. It is as much unique as it is creative, powerful and original.
So, if you have an open mind, a loving heart, love adventure, mythology and spirituality, you will adore this story. It is unique and it is opening doors for me that I never thought possible. A great read that really does deserve a 5 star. Happy reading!

Interesting read!

I didn't know what I was getting into with this book, and that being said I was guessing right up until what seemed the last ten pages. That's a great feeling as normally I find books to become somewhat predictable. I really enjoyed this books storyline and the ideas and people within it. I got to see so many sides of Eve and her relationships. The only thing I really didn't like was how easily manipulated she was by her mom. Some of the sentences were also structured or worded a little weird, in my opinion, and I had to re-read them a couple times. Besides those flaws I really enjoyed the premise of the book and am excited to see what Seth is like in the next book.

A strange story as the author pulls her protagonist around. We visit Life and the Angels of Life. We visit Death and the Angels of Death. We discover that various Pantheons are involved. Then there is always Fates - all three from Norse mythology. Of course there is also Destiny, Karma and Kismet. We are introduced to them all but left wondering where this all leads.

The protagonist is a young woman who doesn't know where she fits in this mystical world beyond the mortal world. The story is predominantly her struggles to find out who she is and where she fits. When in the mortal world things do not go as expected. Do not be surprised if you are confused - even all the way to the end of the book, even as Chaos enters.

Life and death

Angels both for life and death, a mixture of both but with no clear pathway. Poor Eve is stuck in the middle between her parents. Which one does she trust? Which one has been true to her?
Siblings who hate her, siblings who love her but again no common ground. Discovering your way in life is hard enough but faced with these additional challenges will drive a person one way or the other. Eve must find herself and be true to her destiny.

Eve is the dawn of a new and sure to be fascinating deries

Patti Larsen is an amazingly creative person. It never fails to amaze that her imagination seems to know no limits. It does not surprise me that she has taken on Creation in this first book, thus setting up the scene and characters for this series. I look forward to taking this journey!! Write on Patti!!

High hopes sqaushed

I am really into the whole mythology thing (gods and whatnot). I had such high hopes for this book. The beginning was slow. But some of the other books I've read were too. But! It stayed slow. Even though stuff was going on it was not exciting. I wished I liked this book. It took me forever to finish it because I just couldn't get into it.

Eve by Patti Larsen was a cliche of the spoiled brat of divorced parent's. Chapter 25 and onwards read like a Willie Wonka film with mixtures of MacBeth and Snow White thrown in.
