There's nothing quite like springtime in Manhattan and for aspiring photographer, Tasha Buckley it's the perfect season to take photos so she trails through a park in search of compelling shots. She needs at least ten strong pictures for her upcoming art exhibition at Windsor Fine Art, but as night settles over the city she witnesses a brutal crime.

Officer Kevin Wright hails from a working-class family filled with cops and firefighters, and though he takes pride in being one of New York's finest and working the front desk of the 26th Precinct in Harlem, he just isn't feeling it tonight … that is until a gorgeous African-American woman storms into his station-house with terror in her eyes…

Crime reports go missing, a stalker emerges, and a conspiracy to cover up the murder threatens the sultry photographer, but Kevin isn't going to let anything happen to the woman who's stolen his heart.

As Tasha and Kevin forge a relationship in the midst hunting a killer, danger closes in and it doesn't just threaten to tear them apart, it could take their lives as well.

I'd like to say that it felt as if this author worked really hard on this piece – because, honestly, it could have been a lot worse – but I found that hard to believe after going back for a second read. The story had decent enough bones, but it could have been so much better.

Gibson obviously has talent, but there were too many sloppy mistakes that a doing a little more research or employing a lot more common sense would have kept off the page. (A serious photog traipsing through New York City wearing high heels whilst working on making street photos? There might be a few who do that, but none of my myriad of friends in the profession would have done it. Also, when was the last time the author visited B&H? The description might have worked for someone who'd never been there, but it didn't jibe with the store I've been shopping in for over twenty years. And let's not forget that model from Trinidad who barely spoke English. WTF?)

The plot was terribly unrealistic, and even beyond the sloppy mistakes, that was what convinced me that this was a slapdash work by someone who happens to be talented enough not to turn out complete dreck when she didn't even try. Unfortunately, if this book is at all representative of her talent, Gibson isn't quite good enough to turn out anything I'd call approaching good without putting in some effort.

For the record, the story was not "OK"; it was far from it, but the author clearly has a lot of promise.

WOW! Ms. Gibson has done it again with this latest novella from the 'Bridge & Tunnel Romance' series! "Manhattan Flame" is another unique, entertaining, well thought-out romantic suspense story that grabbed me from the get-go & held on to the end! This author has a masterful way with descriptions & details that transforms the words into a vivid, hi-def, full color movie that engages the reader! Well defined characters come to life, evoking a wide range of emotions, whether hating the villains, frightened for the protagonist, and then later cheering for the H/h :D The plot was revealed at a steady pace with the right amount of twists and turns to keep you guessing & on the edge of your seat. So awesome, I did not want to put it down until my eyes convinced me I had to, well after midnight, or I would have read this in one sitting :D I strongly recommend this fantastic page-turner to all fiction fans! I cannot wait for the next installment by this talented author who is on my one-click, must read list :D

Although this is the second book in the series, it can be read as a standalone. The premise of this book is a good one, but it didn't tick all the boxes for me. The timing is both quick and coincidental (on more than one occasion). Although it is written with drama and suspense, because of the timing issue, you didn't really get the 'edge your seat' reading that I like when reading Suspense.

The story itself was very well written, with no editing or grammatical errors that jumped out at me. The pacing was steady, just very quick. The characters were believable.

All in all, for me, this was a quick coffee break book, with moments of suspense but nothing too deep.
