As the grandson of the alien princess Indigo, Jim (aka Kid Sensation) has always known that, technically, he’s royalty. That said, he’d be the first to admit that he’s never lived any kind of regal lifestyle – no titles, no castles, no crown jewels… However, the arrival of a courier from his grandmother’s homeworld changes all of that in an instant.

By royal edict, Jim is summoned “home” to the distant planet Caeles in order to claim an alien inheritance. Unfortunately, this is no warm and cuddly family reunion. Caeles is a hotbed of political intrigue, and Jim’s arrival has widespread ramifications. Not only are several factions attempting to utilize his very existence as leverage to advance their own agendas, but Jim himself is required to submit to an archaic trial known as a prexetus. Moreover, while some are content with simply trying to use him, it quickly becomes apparent that at least one shadowy individual just wants Jim out of the way – quickly, completely, and permanently.

Light years from Earth, with little family and fewer friends, Jim faces the daunting task of finding an enemy whose ultimate purpose is unknown and whose methods are extreme. Complicating matters even further is the fact that Jim’s much-heralded super powers are glitching, making him incredibly vulnerable for perhaps the first time in his life.

Coronation
A Kid Sensation Novel, Book 5
By: Kevin Hardman
Narrated by: Mikael Naramore
This is an Audible book I requested and the review is voluntary.
This book has Kid on his Grandmother's home planet where things get real crazy, not just once but constantly! Many attempts to kill him and the Queen, and his Grandmother. Time travel comes into the story and boy does that get tense! Lots of suspense, mysteries, and life threatening situations! Very exciting!
Narration is great as usual!

This was an enjoyable 5th instalment of Kevin Hardman's Kid Sensation series. The series is a fun YA superhero story. It follows the adventures of teen superhero Jim, Kid Sensation, as he balances the dealings of his personal life with those of his job as a member of a young superheroes team. It is fun and has a nice mix of action, adventure, coming of age drama, and cool superpowered happenings.

This instalment ended up being a little different from the earlier books in the series due to an unexpected change of setting. The last book ended with the shock arrival of an alien bearing a summons for Jim to return with him to the world of his grandmothers origin. This tale had Jim travelling to that world to see what they wanted of him!

It was an engaging story. We got to see a whole new world and meet some fun new characters. The new setting meant that Jim was the only familiar character as all the others we have got to know got left behind on earth. This ended up being a fun twist. The alien world was a bit like a futuristic earth in terms of technology and was a pretty cool place. Jim got caught up in some high level political intrigue while he was there and had to fend off numerous assassination attempts fro his families political enemies.

The secondary characters were a fun batch. Jim was not without family and we finally got to met his alien grandmother and another member of the family. It was also fun twist that she was not so old looking as he expected due to the fact that her race aged 5 times slower than humans. Other fun secondary characters included a few new alien friends around his own age, a few loyal family attendants (Jim was a Royal of sorts of this planet!), and even a potential new love interest rival to challenge Electra. Oh plus there was at least two different types of robots!

The action and the intrigue on the alien planet was fun so hopefully Jim returns for more adventures here in the future!

All in all this was a really good instalment of the Kid Sensation series.

Rating: 4 stars.

Audio Note: As always Mikael Naramore does a great job with the audio for this series.

I have been looking for a Super Hero series that I can let my middle school son read since he has become so engrossed in comics. This book is perfect! I haven't read the others in the series but this book can totally stand on it's own. It was clean (other then some violence which is to be expected in this genre) and so well written that I will be checking out the first 4 books. The narrator does an incredible job and made it even more entertaining to listen to. This is geared towards teens and young adults, but I would let my third grader read it, and I think those adults who love the Marvel Movies (like I do) would also thoroughly enjoy this book.

The story starts out with Kid Sensation, who is part alien, is summoned to his alien family's home planet and is told that he is of royal decent. The adventure goes off Earth to this foreign planet and way of life... he is thrown into a political hotbed and has to watch his back as he is also experiencing glitching in his powers.

The action, adventure and conspiracies keep you very engaged in the story and make it a hard book to put down. Be ready to purchase the next in the series as it leaves off on a cliff hanger and you won't want to wait for it.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Before even hearing the opening credits, I knew that I was in for a good time... Firstly because Kid Sensation hasn't disappointed me yet, and because of where the last book left off, and the title of this one! I knew he'd be flying to meet his maternal grandmother on her homeworld! ...Remember the last book was really all about a series of revelations with the final bombshell being about his grandmother! LOL... Plus I always look forward to listening to another book narrated by Mikael Naramore... his voice acting is stellar, and as I suspected, the book completely lived up to my expectations! starting with the Kid's first look, at the new (to him) world.
So grab the book and sit back and please try not to trip on a time paradox...

This series just gets better and better and I thought book one was brilliant, so it tells you something about this one. This book definitely lead to some arh! moment's. It was very cleverly done the way some irreverent fact at the start of the book has some bearing later on. It's one book that I will be listening to again soon just to pick up on facts that I know have more meaning. Not that it wasn't good the first time round.
The book picks up from where the last book (Revelation) finished with Kid Sensation flying to another planet summoned by his grand mother for royal reasons. So not only is he on his own in a strange planet , with a whole new language to learn (love what his name translates too!) His powers that make him special and keep him safe are playing up and it turns out someone is intent on stopping him from taking up his royal duties even if that means killing him, know matter who is in the way. Not trusting his powers can he trust his new friends to keep him and the Queen alive?
The narrator really does a brilliant job and the change in his voice for certain characters is just amazing and really adds to an already great book.

Disclaimer.
I had requested and received audible version of this book for free from the author, in exchange for an unbiased review.

What I liked about the book -
I had been following this series from the beginning and even though I hadn't specifically liked the first few books, it slowly grew on me. And this fifth book is the best book in this series so far.

Kid's journey in this book reminded me of the Supergirl episode where she gets to meet survivors from her planet. (Err.. spoilers). This visits leads to all sorts of upheaval and drives the story in this installment. And it was paced so well that I didn't get bored even for a minute. The book ends on a high note, one that makes me want to read the next one immediately.

What I disliked about the book -
The book ends in a cliffhanger, like always. If you don't like that, be warned.

Narration -
Narration by Mikael Naramore was perfect.

When Kid Sensation gets summoned to his grandmother's home planet of Caeles he doesn't know just what to expect. He's excited to see his ancestral home and meet the family, but it quickly becomes clear that not everybody's as thrilled to have him there. In fact, somebody wants him dead. To make matters worse, the powers he's come to depend on aren't always entirely reliable as his body adjusts to the alien environment .
I enjoyed watching Jim hobnobbing with royalty and learning about his heritage and history on a new planet. The same slightly snarky brashness and naivety that I've come to love comes through as he makes new friends and charms the adults.
If you've hung in through the first 4 of these I don't need to tell you anything more than that this is more of the same. If you haven't followed Jim's adventures in the super kid trials, at school and getting to know dear old dad, go back and read them. They're a lot of fun, and this one will make more sense after you do.

Best book yet

Where the last book was dodgy at best this one makes up for it in spades. Finally a kid sensation novel thats actually novel legnth! Not only that but he finally seems to be getting a handle on his powerset to the point where im not shaking my head in frustration at what he should have done as opposed to me making excuses regarding his inexperience. Add in a pretty great ending that even if you should have seen coming (as i did) was awesomly fun and a new love interest as well... best book yet. Plus new powers! I almost didn't pick this one up after the previous book let me down but I'm glad I did.

I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, and found it very entertaining. Jim is requested to attend the Queen of his grandmother's home planet. In Jim fashion, he's in trouble even before he gets there. High intrigue in the royal city is everywhere and Jim is middle of it all. When he heads back to earth, he's bringing trouble home with him. This book is just as much fun as the last one, with lots of suspense, action and humour. Looking forward to the next one.

Coronation is an excellent superhero story in which Kid Sensation (aka Jim) visits an alien world, meets his grandmother, and repeatedly saves the day.

If you enjoy superhero stories, the Kid Sensation series is a terrific bunch of books to read (or listen to). They are good independently, but they are better if you read them all (in order).

The narrator of these books does a superb job bringing the stories to life.

I received a complimentary copy of this audiobook. This is my honest and voluntary review.

This was definitely one of the more interesting books in the kid sensation series. Because it breaks down the whole superhero-supervillain dichotomy. Although for someone who is supposed to be a genius he´s rather dimwitted at times and if I'm being honest he doesn't really act like a teenage boy. I mean if you think you're going to be stranded on an alien planet for the rest of your life, and you see a freakishly pretty girl, your probably going to forget your girlfriend. But Overall this book is definitely one of the best in the series and I look forward to more good work.

Another great story in this series really enjoyed this

So take your favorite character and remove every other character you've gotten used to for the last few books and then write another well woven tail that's what you have right here this was a lot of fun with a complete different setting than the previous books the plot line character development even the ending was all well done whether you were young or old you will enjoy this book at least I did and I'm not young by any stretch of the imagination

The story goes to a totally different place with an all new cast of characters. I have a mixed review of how it went. The plot was fun and creative and the characters interesting...except that they were on an alien planet in an ancient civilization and everything was pretty much entirely human. There were almost no truly different or creative things about being there. We could have been in an European kingdom for the whole story and nothing would have changed. So...not a bad experience, but could have been amazing (and it was regular).

Following on from the cliffhanger of Revelation, Jim is summoned to Caeles, the alien planet where his grandmother lives as a princess. Unfortunately it's not a simple family visit and there seem to be many people trying to kill him or at least get him out of the way. Throw in some time travel, his powers going wonky and even some romantic affairs and things just keep getting more complicated for Jim.

My sixth read from author Kevin Hardman. Well-written super-hero sci-fic/suspense, with well-developed. With each book Hardman writes the story-line gets more enticing, drawing the reader deeper & deeper. Narrator Mikael Naramore’s talented narration adds greatly to the book’s enjoyment. I was given an Audible copy of this book & am voluntarily reviewing it. I’ll be reading more in this series. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).

This is my favorite so far in the series. Still only four stars because of the repetitive use of some of the 20$ words I have yet to look up and see what they actually mean. This one had the most complex plot I think. I am excited to keep reading this series

I’ve continue to enjoy this super-powered series, and Book 5 was no exception. Kid Sensation travels to Caeles, the planet of his ancestors, navigates the social mores of the royal family, and battles an unstable time-manipulator. Very satisfying!

Fun story, like the others in the series, but does the author use the phrase "moreover" at least once a chapter, or is it just me?

good job

The is was one of my favorites of this book series. The Mc, while still young and acting it for the most part, really matured. I found the political interplay interesting.

Great read

Well this was a rollercoaster of a ride and I can't wait to see where this goes next. That said I do have One! Large problem and it's a huge spoiler so anyone who doesn't want a spoiler Do Not Read past this point.............................................................................................................................................------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ok let me just say this last thing before I begin this book is totally worth the read great story although I do feel like it moved very far away from the superhero side and I mean very it was still a Fantastic addition . That being said I Hate I Hate I Hate!!!!!! Time travel!!!!! I can just never get myself to enjoy it hurts my brain and gets so confusing I mean really confusing and if anything was shown in the last sentences of the book there will be more! Gaaaaaaaaahhhhhhh!!! But altogether a very good book and a very well written story . Worthy of five stars keep up the good work Mr Hardman I will be waiting in rapture for the next installation of kid sensation just do me a favor no time travel in the next book please.

Not having the rest of the characters provided some limitation that was helpful in exploring more of Jim's background and giving him space to grow a bit. His grandmother is fantastic and the scene where he meets her deserves a great laugh. Having Jim's powers on the fritz could have come across as a silly trope, but actually got played rather well, with the thought required of superpowers coming back to the front of consideration. That's one of the better parts of this series, that powers have consequences in the real world, they don't just happen, they interact. The rest of the story has some truly great moments, good relationship building and enough reflections on his friends back home that their absence doesn't become silence. There's a potential for a romantic triangle going forward that I have high hopes for Hardman not falling into to any great degree. And the ending, really, not that I needed another reason to keep reading.
