Running from her past, Alison James' aptitude for numbers has both gotten her into trouble and saved her. But now there's another kind of trouble brewing in the Lucky Ace Casino. Her winning streak at blackjack hasn't gone unnoticed and Owen Rockford, head of casino security, has been dogging her every move. She wants to cut and run, but not when it means sacrificing the only friend she's had in a long time.
Owen Rockford has his own demons from his past military life and the woman that betrayed him. He's not about to let that happen again, so when the gorgeous redhead who caught his eye in the casino turns out to be a suspect in a card-cheating ring, he's more than happy to put away his amorous intentions and prosecute her like any other criminal.
Pursuit turns to passion, and it soon becomes clear that nothing is as it seems. When the stakes become deadly Alison is forced to make the biggest gamble of all- one that could cost her her heart ... not to mention her life.
Lee Anne Jones is the more romantic alter-ego of USA Today Bestselling Author Leighann Dobbs. As Jones, she writes heart thudding romantic suspense that will keep you up all night.
She lives in the lakes region of New Hampshire with a fishing obsessed husband, a feisty but loyal chihuahua, and a cat that thinks she’s the boss.
It was a fun read however like in the previous books there is a lot of talk eluding to a back story but not enough of description to make it credible... Owen is seriously jaded by his past relationship but the story around that was just blah... it needed more.....and a lot of the plots just fizzle out with no real conclusion..... what ever happened to the cheaters? What happened to the thug that was after her? What happened to the pharmaceutical company? Like I said fun read but this series seems to always leave me wanting just a little more.

This is an easy read very enjoyable mystery. The characters are well defined and likable. The story will keep your interest. I would recommend this to anyone who likes a casual mystery.
I very much enjoyed this novel! While plot-wise it followed the classic sequence of events for both romances and romance-thrillers, it did that so elegantly that I was engaged, even when I know what would happen next for the most part. With romances in general, the plot is known ahead of time anyway! so the difference between a good one and one less good is HOW the inevitable sequence of events plays out, plus the setting and the characters.
I've never been to Vegas and don't especially want to, but it- and especially the Lucky Ace Casino-came alive for me. Exactly the right amount of details to make the atmosphere vivid!
And all the characters involved more than briefly were thoughtfully well-drawn. Alison is a skilled mathematician who adores math jokes- nice details that differentiate her from many romantic heroines. Owen is more typical, but not only doesn't mind that Alison is far better than he at math, but actually seeks to benefit from her expertise... and doesn't mind her math jokes, even though he doesn't understand most of them. These are the kinds of details that turn the main protagonists into vivid characters we're interested in reading about!
The other characters are good, and I am curious about their backstories. Particularly Henry the iguana, who I admit has nothing to do with the plot. An especial shout-out to Peaches the dog, who is not just a gratuitous puppy to make us say "awww", but is relevant to the plot in many ways. The secondary human characters were vivid, too! Faye, for example, needs a story...
oh I loved it Alison and Owen are a calculation of sexy, steaminess. another great story from Lee Anne Jones great suspense, steamy romance and thrilling danger.
