Tut sets out to find his brother and protector, Gil, who has gone missing from their Washington, D.C., town house. Tut discovers that Gil is being held prisoner by the Egyptian god Apep. With the help of the Sun god, Ra, Gil managed to vanquish Apep thousands of years ago, and now the god is back for vengeance. It’s up to Tut and his friends Tia and Henry to stop Apep before he succeeds in his evil scheme to swallow the sun and plunge the world into darkness forever.
P. J. Hoover first fell in love with Greek mythology in sixth grade thanks to the book Mythology by Edith Hamilton. After a fifteen year bout as an electrical engineer designing computer chips for a living, P. J. decided to take her own stab at mythology and started writing books for kids and teens. P. J. is a member of THE TEXAS SWEETHEARTS & SCOUNDRELS. When not writing, P. J. spends time with her husband and two kids and enjoys practicing Kung Fu, solving Rubik's cubes, and watching Star Trek.
I received this book for free through Goodreads Giveaways and have chosen to give my honest opinion about it. For the genre it represented and the target audience, I think this book was very enjoyable! The adventure and action were great, and the story was very fun. Would definitely recommend.
I’ve enjoyed reading about Egyptian mythology and history since I was a little kid, it was one of my favorite subjects to read about in school so I was pretty excited to receive a copy of this book in the mail. I’m glad I can say that my excitement was more than justified — Tut: My Epic Battle to Save the World by P.J. Hoover was a fast-paced and exciting read full of action and adventure from beginning to end. I was unable to put the book down once I had started and I was actually half way through it before I even realized it was the second book in a series, which I think is a good indicator of how much I enjoyed it.
While this may be marketed as a middle-grade book I think it’s a great example of why you shouldn’t let a book’s target audience dissuade you from reading it. P.J. Hoover is a fantastic author and I think she did a great job bring the story and it’s characters to live. The fact that this is a middle-grade book obviously didn’t stop Hoover from doing her homework when it came to research. I thought the story was full of interesting tidbits about Egyptian history and mythology.
While I liked almost everything about this book I would have to say the thing that impressed me most were the characters. I found it surprisingly easy to connect and empathize with Tutankhamun considering the fact that he’s an ancient Egyptian pharaoh stuck in the body of a 14-year-old boy. Reading about him trying to navigate the pitfalls of middle school while hiding who and what he is has been one of the highlights of my week. My only complaint would be that I found the conversations and romance aspect of the book a bit cringe worthy at times, though that may be fitting for a book aimed at a younger audience.
I would gladly recommend this book to kids and adults alike, I think there is something in it for everyone. Tut: My Epic Battle to Save the World is well written with an interesting plot and full of characters it’s easy to fall in love with. I’ve already purchased the first book in the series and I’m eagerly awaiting the sequel to this one because I am dying to see what happens next with Tut and his friends.

This one wasn't as good as the first, but i did have a good time with it. I really want one of Henry's periodic table shirts. I could never challenge Thoth in Words With Friends like he did. Also Tut and Tia's relationship is so cute! There better be a third one, I am crossing my fingers!
A awesome fast paced filled with fun adventure this story was. I was glued to the pages. It was full of adventure and twists that I wasn't expecting.
I loved how the Author put in some Egyptian History as well. I always loved learning about Egyptian History and reading about it was pretty awesome. Author did a great job with that.
The characters were very well developed. I loved going on the journey with 14 year old Tutankhamun. A great adventure indeed.
If you want a fast paced filled adventure with some twists this book is for.

Although this book resolves the disappearance of Gil, the pacing is off. There's a rush to get through the current problem (capturing the god who wants to eat the sun) while making sure that it's a multi-step process involving a mix of real and imagined places, while simultaneously wallowing in lore and backstory as if it were the second book in a planned.
With the odd pacing and a Tut's declaration he plans to find Ra with there being no third book to accomplish this, I can only give the book an average rating.
'Tut: My Epic Battle to Save the World' is the second installment in a wonderful middle grade fantasy series that fans of the genre will adore. Tut returns as an immortal middle grade student living in Washington, D.C. He and his friends have to go through lots of obstacles (both big and small) in order to find his brother Gil and stop an angry god who's intent on getting revenge. The story is full of Egyptian mythology, which I absolutely loved learning about. We get introduced to several new characters, and get to know Tut even better throughout the book. He's an interesting main character - both the young Egyptian king and a modern day middle grader in the United States.
The author uses great attention to detail along with vivid imagery to bring both settings to life for the reader. The writing itself was well done and had me invested from the beginning. I couldn't really identify with Tut as we're so different, but the author's use of the first person point of view let me connect as much as I could with him. I loved getting to know more about him in this installment and I enjoyed watching his character continue to grow and change. I look forward to finding out where the author will take us next and what kind of trouble Tut will find himself in. Definitely recommended for fans of children's fiction, middle grade fiction, fantasy, mythology, and readers who enjoy stories full of action and adventure.

I love this series! King Tut is immortal and living forever as a 14 year old boy. His challenge in this sequel is to rescue his "brother," Gil, from Apep, a god that was once imprisoned by Gil. With a little help from his friends, Henry and Tia, he rushes to free Gil and save the world...hopefully before the sun is gone forever. The ending leaves this one wide open for a third installment.
