Amira Rain is a popular author of a shifter and paranormal romance.
When she is not writing she enjoys dancing and going to the theatre. One of her big passions in life is chocolate and she has an irrational fear of spiders. So much so, that even a photo of a spider will scare her.
Jayme's magical abilities have just been discovered and she is assigned to help the shifters protect the community from invasion. She is also given a secret assignment. The government believes that one of the alphas in charge of the community is aiding the enemy. Cameron and Elliot are co-leaders and Jayme is asked to get intimately involved with both to determine who is the traitor.
The community has many more male shifters than females so many of the couples involve one female with multiple male partners. It is a new lifestyle to Jayme but not one that she is reluctant to try. She is just concerned about how close to get to these two men without knowing who is the enemy. Cameron and Elliott are wonderful sexual partners but the doubts are causing issues for her. She doesn't know who to trust.
I have read a number of books by this author and she does what I call menage with conflict. In most menage stories, the men are friends or family or have some real connection to one another. In her stories, often there is a real conflict between the two and no relationship. There is mistrust between the two and it leads to a very different kind of experience.
I liked Jayme. She really embraced the changes to her life. She took on a leadership role. She is not afraid to explore her sexuality and let the men know her desires. Cameron and Elliott are harder to get to know. They don't get a chance to narrate and we get very little about them until the end. I didn't feel much of a connection to them.
Both unexpected yet strangely predictable at the same time this book had an interesting take on shapeshifters and those gifted with power. From what I understand a race of creatures called 'Angels' tried to take over the world and are still trying to some years later when a woman discovers that she has been blessed with gifts to fight this Angel menace. Granted this book didn't much explain what Angels are other than the fact that they want to kill mortal males and enslave all females but what more do you really need to know? Anyway, she is charged with figuring out which Alpha leader of Haverwood was a traitor. And it's a hard task filled with pleasurable experiences and flip-flopping suspicions. Even I was kept guessing, one alpha is a real good actor and the other holds tight to his suspicions. Which made it hard to tell until the end who it really was. Let me just say the traitor gets what's coming to him.
Try some paranormal erotica, my Goodreads friends told me. We swear, it’s not all icky and weird, they said.
So, armed with these assertions, I scanned the Amazon bestseller list, picked out a paranormal erotica novel that had good reviews and was selling like Girl Scout cookies outside a Weight Watchers meeting, and away I went. I was hopeful. Hopeful that I’d find the reader’s Holy Grail: an entirely new genre, packed with books just waiting for me to download. (Imagine me tenting my fingers like Mr. Burns and saying, “Excellent.”)
Well, I can tell you this, people: hope is a dark, dangerous thing. It leads you to do stupid crap. Stupid crap like reading this book and giving up 3 hours of my life to do it.
Good read. It was a little slow in spots but not to the point that I gave up on reading it. Jayme comes into her powers a lot later than most. She accepts that she is a gifted. She is asked by the government to go to a out post in the northern part of the state. She also is asked to find out who is a traitor. Five pages into her meeting the suspects, I knew who the traitor was and I was not wrong. Nice enough but predictable.
I enjoyed this book from start to finish. There were enough twists and turns to keep my attention as well as a good story to go along with the sexy parts.
A great read full of exciting and steamy adventures. I enjoyed the romance, as well as, the action scenes. I adore happy endings, and this one was one of the best.
Second to none full of drama, trauma, and pairs of unmatched lovers in conflicted emotions. Blended paranormal skills to overcome great odds makes a good read.
