Vance Pemberton is Irish and his only love is hockey. He sleeps, breathes, and lives for hockey. He’s been in Canada for the past two years paying his dues as the League’s Draft quickly approaches. This is going to be his year. He will be drafted. There’s just one other issue he needs to handle as well.
At the age of ten, Dacey Grion was told her marriage to Vance Pemberton had been arranged. Eleven years later, she has finished university in Belfast, Ireland, her hometown. Now, she waits for Vance to return to Ireland, in hopes they can fall in love and move forward.
It’s not until Vance’s secrets about his family and his life that their arrangement is threatened. What is the right thing to do? Is faith and respect for long-held traditions enough to repair the damage? Can their arrangement be saved?

The Arrangement is the story of Vance & Dacey promised to each other at the age of 11/10 to marry by their parents. This book is a prequel of sorts as this story is before Vance's draft into the PHL with the New Hampshire Bears and we know these characters from book 2: The Workaholic and the Realist. Dacey Grion, 21, just finishing up her university degree and helping her sister with her wedding plans is excited for Vance to return from Canada and training at what he loves hockey. Even though they haven't spent much time together Dacey is willing to make this arrangement work for their families. Vance has been away at various hockey training camps and boarding schools since a young age. Family relationship strained, Vance with pressure from his brothers decides to make an effort to get to know Dacey when he returns for a week before the draft. Can these two learn to love each other? Will a relationship develop over time or will it only be a marriage of convenience?
First off I have to mention that this book is part of Seduced by the Game Cancer Charity Collection. All proceeds will be donated to support cancer research and patient care. More information may be found at: http://www.seducedbythegame.com/ each novella in this series supports a charaity of choice by the author, which I love! I personally didn't connect as well with this story as I have the others in the New Hampshire Bears novels. I did find it really interesting the whole arranged marriage aspect and ones "reputation" could to tainted without even having done anything wrong. Dacey is such a strong young lady who only wants to do what's best for her family and hopefully fall in love as well. Vance is the typical young man thinking about himself and only recognizing what he might lose when it's slipping from his grasp. 4.25 Stars for The Arrangement by Mary Smith

*received an ARC in exchange of an honest review* What can I say this woman could write just a sentence and I would read it!! I loved the story and fell in love with the characters on page one! yes there were times where I wanted to throat punch them, but it was all worth it! Dacey and Vance are amazing and they will definitely win your heart once you get to meet them!! so preorder this book and help towards this amazing cause!!
The subject of arranged marriage is not something you read about every day. Although there are many unanswered questions on the subject, the story line moves quickly and the plot twists are many. I enjoyed the development of the characters. The love story is realistic and heartwarming. I love the teaser at the end and can't wait to start the next story.
Dacey and Vance grew up together in Northern Ireland.. When they were 10 years old their parents arranged their marriage.. Now they are 21-22 and have to proceed with this marriage or not
Dacey has remained true to the arrangement even though Vance was in Canada following his dream. Vance well... hasn't. Can Dacey move past that and go through with the marriage?
So many things happen and don't want to post any spoilers.. All I can say is this story ended up being my favorite of the series so far
I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
This is a novella and give some more insight into characters introduced in the second New Hampshire Bears book. The action in this book takes sometime before book 2.
When I read book #2 in this series, The Workaholic and the Realist, I was intrigued by two side characters, Vance and Dacey. Then Mary sent me this ARC out of the blue and I was pleasantly surprised to see it was about Vance and Dacey.
Vance and Dacey are in an arranged relationship (think arranged marriage, but starts at a much younger age). They are set to marry. Yet they barely know each other - even though they've been a part of each other's lives since birth. I don't believe I've ever read about a couple that were in this type of relationship. There was also some mystery about them in book two that just made you want more of them.
As the book starts, its glaringly obvious that Vance and Dacey have spent no time getting to know each other. Their relationship is in danger. But you can also see that they care about each other. Then just when you think they are making progress, the author throws them (and you) for a loop! Both characters were unsure what to do in the aftermath. They were loyal to their heritage of arranged marriages and were both deeply disturbed that their arrangement wouldn't work. It was a bit baffling to me. They both felt that the arrangement was their best option. I guess it must be hard to understand if you don't live in this type of world.
Vance had me calling him bad names and I loved seeing Dacey come out of her meek shell. I still hope we get more of these two.
What is the equivalent of a Hat Trick for a writer?
This series has good continuity, pace, and characters with diversity, strength, and community. You should buy all the books at once so as soon as you finish one you can merge into the next.
I loved it and want more of Vince and Dacey! I loved the personality Mary wrote into the characters. Dacey's acceptance of the way things are made me love her all the more while Vince was, well, just like a guy. I many books I found myself disliking one of the characters because of their actions and, knowing the couple will more than likely get together in the end, hope they don't. I find myself pulling for Vince and Dacey throughout the book. I can't wait to see what happens between them and what the future holds.
Vance and Dacey were promised by their parents to marry each other. Distance has been a real struggle. They have not been romantically involved. Davey discovers that Vance has been with other women while he was away playing hockey. Dacey has to decide if she can love and marry Vance. Vance has to prove his love to keep their arrangement! Great read! Patiently waiting for their complete story!
Purchased the book because I love the author and its proceeds are for charity. I can't say I've read to many books about arranged marriages and none that included a hockey God, but it was a great read and it was a fast read. Enjoy the book and take a look at some of her other writings.
This was a teaser. Lol. I want more . We were introduced to these two in previous books and I can't wait to see how they work this out. This was a great background story to the odd relationship. I was as curious as the rest of the "gang". Can't wait to read the next book. I'm really enjoying the team.
I loved every minute of this book! Miss Smith simply knows how to keep you at the edge of your seat as usual! so many twists and turns that would keep you guessing!!! I loved this story from cover to cover! and it has hockey so its the perfect story!
