BURN is the first part of HEAT, a four-part novella series from New York Times and USA Today bestselling author, Deborah Bladon.
Landing a job at Manhattan's trendiest restaurant is everything Cadence Sutton wants. After leaving her ex-boyfriend behind, she's ready to focus on her career and Nova is the place to do that.
Tyler Monroe is the chef of the moment. Everyone wants a piece of him and when he returns to New York City following his successful book tour, he's eager to take over the day-to-day operations of his restaurant.
Cadence knows the complications that come with mixing business with pleasure, but Chef Monroe is as irresistible as the food he creates.
There's no denying the attraction between them. As he helps her nurture her natural talent, her past reappears with a vengeance.
Tempers flare, buttons are pushed and when push comes to shove, everything may be lost in the heat of the moment.
Deborah Bladon had never read a romance hero she didn't like. Her love for romance novels began when she was old enough to board the bus, library card in hand to check out the newest Harlequin paperbacks. She was a Canadian by heart, and by passport, but you could often spot her in New York City sipping a latte and looking for inspiration for her next story. Manhattan was definitely her second home.
She cherished her family and believed that each day was a gift for writing, for reading, and for loving.
I really LOVE Deborah Bladon's writing style. It is always fast paced and full of intrigue!
I am very fond of both of the main characters in this book.
Tyler Monroe a trending chef with a new restaurant. He is as alluring as the food he prepares.
Cadence is a sous chef at Tyler's restaurant. Her past with a rival chef and some obvious secrets she seems to be hiding will make this a very interesting story.
Awesome Novella! (Nook edition) This story is way too awesome to end in a cliffhanger. So now I HAVE to read the rest! lol!!!! This story set in a New York restaurant, reveals what goes into the recipes, as well as the convoluted relationships between the talented chefs. The fiery confrontation between Tyler and Brendon, the boyfriend and the ex-boyfriend of Junior Chef, Cadence, is explosive!
I had already read this book, (first in the series) but for some reason, had not documented it. So I decided to read it again. And once again, not disappointed. Great read, easy, enjoyable, but let me warn you....there's a cliff hanger.
I looove all of Deborah Bladon's books. I fall in love with the characters from the get go. This story was no exception. There was the "heat" that I expect from all her stories and OMG the cliffhanger! I didn't see that coming at all. I'm immediately starting "Spark"!!!
Good pace to the book. Kept my interest well and left me eager to read more. The language might be a bit crude for some, but other than that great read.
Deborah Bladon is a very talented author, and she's one of my all time favourites. Her books have a tendency to be super dramatic with awesome cliffhangers that keep you on the edge of your seat until the next part of the series comes out... seriously she almost gives me heart attacks on a monthly basis. This book was no exception to the rule.
I loved it from the very first line and if I'm completely honest with you I knew I would before I read the book. See I read a sneak peek at the back of one of Bladon's earlier books and that opening sentence had stuck in my mind, reminding me that this book was going to be one worth reading. "I once had one in my mouth twice that size." That's a fantastic first line. I've read a ridiculous amount of articles, blogs and books on how to write, especially that dreaded first chapter and they all say that you need a powerful first line and I've never come across one quite so... exuberant and thought provoking... lol, if that's the word for it.
I loved the characters in this book. There's competition, arrogance, and there's a secret mystery at the centre of the whole thing; who is Cadence Sutton??? The options are turning over in my head. Literally there are thousands and I've considered them all (I think) since I put the book down at quarter to three this morning. Yes, yet again, I allowed another of Bladon's book stop me getting my beauty sleep. Cadence is a pretty cool character though, even though she clearly has more money than she appears and she's got this big secret... perhaps to do with the mother she has to text every Sunday to confirm she's still alive? I'm almost berating her in my head when she first starts a relationship with Tyler though. Hadn't she learnt anything from her relationship with Brendon? As for Tyler, I really don't think I've gotten to know him properly yet. I'm waiting to get to know him better and I'm sure he probably has a secret or two too. They always do.
Then just as I thought I was about to learn what Cadence's secret was; I was finally going to learn who this character actually was, and then boom, it all changes in true Bladon style and I'm left with a cliff hanger like no other and more questions than answers and a desire to read part two that will not be quenched until... well I don't know when... sometime in the next few weeks. All in all though, I've got to give Deborah Bladon her dues, yet again she's set on a path to make me fall in love a little with Tyler, become best friends with Cadence and sit on tenterhooks until I can finally find some closure with their story.
I love this book and so I give it five out of five stars.
Oh Deborah I just can't cope with this book!! (In a good way)
I've literally just put down Burn and I'm astounded! Deborah's work just keeps getting better and better. Burn is the first book in the Heat series, which is a four part series. It follows Candace and Tyler. You will remember Tyler if you’ve indulged in any of Deborah's other books. As you may or may not know all Deborah's books are connected, the characters all intertwining with each other which I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE!!
This book has a bit of everything in it, a headstrong female an incredibly sexy alpha male and lots of other entities causing fun and trouble! Your not quite sure about all the characters just yet, leaving plenty to still be revealed to the reader. There is no shortage of steamy scenes to keep all of us readers satisfied and plenty of content to keep that imagination going. I just love when a book enables me to picture the entire goings on vividly as if I am there witnessing it all unfolding. For me, as an avid reader, that's a true sign of an immensely talented author.
Oh my word, to end a book like that is certainly making me come back for more, I could even argue it is unfair ;-)
I really don't want to wait for the next instalment, but I will be waiting, albeit impatiently!
I HIGHLY recommend this book deserves a read (as do all Deborah Bladon’s other books) and I’m giving it a very well deserved 5 stars!!
I am not a fan of the author's writing style. I want to enjoy experiencing the story along with the characters. She will start a dialogue, or be in the middle of a scene between 2 characters and then end it abruptly in the middle of the conversation. it is not smooth or that it reaches a climax or cliffhanger. It just stops in mid thought. Then the next chapter begins further on in the day and the main character "recalls" the ending of the conversation or scene after a little while in the current conversation or scene. it was choppy, it didn't flow, and 70% of the story, the main character, who's POV we're reading from has to recount what happened in a summation. As for the characters, I like them well enough. Tyler does seem a little stiff and, at times, controlling and over jealous. But I really like Cadence's spunk. I'm glad its told from her point of view. She doesn't seem like a pushover, which we're seeing more and more in today's stories. This story does end in a cliffhanger, which I will say was done very well. this story has potential, though I don't know if the issues I have with the book will get better with the next since that seems to be her style.
Heat ( the complete series) ( burn, spark, blaze, inferno)
Deborah Bladon Reviews on goodreads, Amazon, the book addicts (fb)
I am so glad I waited till all four stories were out. Each one ends in a cliffhanger. And my heart just couldn't have handled it.. It's a wonderful cliffhanger but waiting would have killed me!!
If you haven't read any of Deborah bladons books your missing out. They are wonderful. You don't have to read them in order. But my opinion you should. They all go off each other. You meet people in this book and the next book may be about them .. I love it ..
Can't wait for the next one ... And I think I see a reread of the entire series in my future.. It's just that good!!
"If you can't take the heat, stay out of the kitchen" this saying goes perfect with this story of Cadence and Tyler. The readers meet Tyler in a previous book. I haven't read many romances that are centered around a passion for cooking. I'm still trying to figure out what Cadence's story is and Tyler seems to have secrets of his own. I love Ms. Bladon's books because of the cliffhangers and I can never put them down because I want to know what happens and I don't want to wait. The cliffhangers make me continue onto the next book right away. The title of this series best describes what the readers experience when reading. It starts as a slow burn as we're getting to know Cadence and Tyler and the flames only get stronger. On the the next!
I was introduced to Deborah Bladon's books about a year ago. It took me two weeks of nonstop reading, but I read every last book she had published. To this day, she's surpassed my expectations as an author.
Burn had me from the beginning. Absolutely, hands down hotness. The ending was beautiful and the cliffhanger was perfect. The intertwined characters from other books, sexy time, excellent character development and that bit of secrecy makes Burn and every other Deborah Bladon book a must read!
OMG, Tyler opening his new restaurant, Cadence one of his chef's, of course she is a mouthy, spitfire, but excellent at her job, There is an attraction, but both have secrets. Her ex has decided he wants her back, and he is not so nice about going about it, above telling all! Tyler's restaurant is doing well, he and Cadence are good, awesome story, what can go wrong? OMG, a must read, cannot wait for next book!
The first in the series and it's hot in the kitchen. Tyler is a mystery and his character doesn't trust easily. It is interesting to see how guarded he is. Cadence is strong and I can't wait to see what her secret is. The two of them together are going to be delicious. This cliffhanger will leave you excited and waiting to see what happens next.
I didn't think I was going to start this series until all the books were out, but I caved! I enjoyed a lot Deborah's stories and this ones seems to be coming to be a good one too. Now to wait...
I had a lot of trouble with this one. I didn't feel any connection to the characters and found myself getting bored with it. This book does end on a cliffhanger and I'm not sure if I care enough to see what happens next.
I've read other books by this author and enjoyed them, this one just wasn't for me
Fabulous book...cliffhanger with serious twists and character unknowns...I love and always turn to Deborah Bladon for my "easy" reads that always leave me wanting more and knowing that I can count on her to keep the stories coming and the characters reappearing!!! Freaking LOVE LOVE LOVE....everything Deborah Bladon!!!
Another good book from Norah Baldon. Thanks or a great read as I always do when I am reading you're books and now I can't wait for Sparks th second book of this series.
Once again the author gives us a fascinating group of complex personalities coupled with a compelling story with unforeseen twists and turns leading to an explosive cliff hanger.
Meh....I had a few issues with this story. It is insta lust with no build up btwn the two. It hints that the hero is gun shy when it comes to trust but then he gives her his tablet that has ALL his recipes on it after hooking up with her a few times? Not likely. 2.5*not believable* stars
Up love Deborah Bladon. I love how her books are fast and flow easily. I loved the first book, the intro to the series. I read it in one sitting. Now on to book #2!
Looks like this will be another good series. Always have cliffhangers that leave us impatient for the next book. Also like how characters from the others series appear.
I enjoy all of Ms. Bladon's book - I debated reading this or waiting for all the parts to be released but couldn't resist and now i cant wait for next part
