In this powerful new novel, the author shares the observations and stinging emotions of a 14-year-old girl in retreat from the world. The brutal betrayal of a friend and the scathing comments of a teacher send Susanna deep within herself, searching fearfully for a way to safely connect again.
Not one of my favorites, but a good book nonetheless. It was kind of hard to get into at the beginning, but it settled out a little later. It was a different book, and I kind of liked that.
The symbolism with the monkey tree, especially the design on the cover, about how in the beginning it seemed like the larger monkey was saving the smaller monkey, but later on it is revealed the smaller monkey is saving the larger monkey at the same time.
It is a different book, like I said before. But it is a good book. Don't know why it has such a low rating.
