Chastity is about to meet the neighbors – and they are naked! When Chastity, a recently identified heiress, is rescued from a cult, she flies to a remote Caribbean island, accompanied by Matt, a lawyer masquerading as the maintenance supervisor. She is horrified to find her sanctuary is a nudist resort! Embarrassed at first, not understanding that nudity does not indicate a lack of morals, Chastity is infatuated with Matt, but his ethics prevent him from acting on his growing attraction. Then stranded on the island alone with Matt during a hurricane, they finally make love. Shortly thereafter Matt is forced to abandoned her on the island. Chastity, now pregnant, rebuilds the resort. After Chastity returns to New York Matt begs her to marry him. Her reply is “Do I wear a wedding dress or nothing at all.”

Steven W. Johnson is a three-tour Viet Nam Veteran who has worked as a corporate mailroom clerk, data entry clerk, computer programmer, database designer, and magazine publisher. The written word has been a part of his life since discovering The Hobbit in high school. Steve has written six books that include: The Curious Misadventures of Tubby Wexler, Private Investigator - Tubby Wexler is a soft-boiled private eye who believes he is the personification of his pulp magazine heroes, Philip Marlowe, Sam Spade, and Mike Hammer. Wexler has all the trappings - a two-room office in a dilapidated downtown building, a loyal, if untrained canine, a voluptuous Cajun beauty as a secretary, and a host of interesting clients. What Tubby doesn't have is a clue!

A short quick read that took me away from a bloody mystery to comic mystery. The premise of the story is a main character who was raised in a Commune ran by a group of female cousins
who had separated from the current social standards many years prior to the start of story. The main character, Chastity, is potentially the sole survivor of a wealthy man's estate and his will has some conditions that must be met. The law firm who is handling his estate believes that one of the Commune's members may be his heir. The firm assigns one of their lawyers the task of monitoring the potential heir and if she is proven to be the heir help her transition into the current day. The will requires her to live on an Island which he owned and where he will live until the heir completes the wills conditions. It is an adult comedy which I found to be very funny a welcome change of pace for me.

Lot of Twists and Turns

While it is not a literary masterpiece, Bare Essentials was a entertaining book. The ending was predictable, but the path was full of twists and turns. This is a good naturist / nudist story. It is not an erotic novel.
