Dating A Dragon

Rate this book
Fire dragon Orion Garrison is rich, eligible, and hot in more ways than one, but that hasn’t been enough to find him a true life mate. And even his billions won’t keep shifter matchmakers The Mating Game from showing him the door when the he arrogantly demands they find him a woman to bear his dragonlings.
Cadence Bergmann has always known the chilling truth – if her ice dragon half starts to show, she’ll be married off to someone from her long-estranged clan, even if she can’t shift, can’t fly, and her icy breath is only good for chilling margaritas.

Georgette St. Clair writes hot, sexy romances starring Alpha heroes. The road to love may be rocky and fraught with peril (and humor and scorchtastic sex and healthy heapings of snark), but her shifters will stop at nothing to claim the women they love.

Georgette has worn many hats in life: newspaper reporter, EMT, internet marketer, cocktail waitress, temp, nurse’s aide (not in chronological order).

When she’s not rescuing fur-babies, she spends her days in a fantasy universe where she nudges her smart-mouthed, take-no-gruff heroines onto paths which will set them on a collision course with true love.

Somewhat enjoyable mate story between a high-handed fire dragon and a new ice dragon. I liked the first one in this series better. Things just needed fleshing out more and editing.

The issues I had were:

♦ Inconsistencies: This was an issue in the first book as well. One minute Orion came in and Cadence was sprawled out on the bed, they're touching and kissing. The next minute he's laying her back on the grass. I had to go back and reread to see if I missed something. There was also some timing issues on how long Cadence was pregnant to when the eggs were removed.

♦ Editing: Again, I noticed this in the first book. Words missing, used twice where they shouldn't be, incorrect usage.

♦ Timeline jumps: This also goes back to fleshing out more details. Several times there were jumps where I checked to see if pages were missing. For instance, they were laying on the grass with the after sex glow then the next page is a new chapter and they had just gotten married. Where was the proposal? Where was the wedding? It would have been nice to see all that. Also when she had the eggs removed. It just jumped from her being a few months along to the eggs had been removed and were almost ready to hatch. I wanted to know what happened during the surgery. This happened several times throughout the book where it just jumped time and bypassed details.

I said this in my review of the first book...a good editor or beta readers would have caught inconsistencies and editing issues. They may have also asked for more details that were missed as well. I'm not usually one to nitpick a book to death for these things but they were glaringly obvious in this book and did affect my enjoyment. Honestly, I'm not sure if I will continue with the next one in this series or not. I had hoped this one would have had improvement over the first but it's actually worse.

I know I've read this one at some point. I just can't remember the year. So I got the audiobook. How entertaining remembering the plot beats.

I mean laughing whenever the Dominus punishes his family members for not liking his potential mate. Then said mate being thrown off a cliff. After changing form...defending herself from a rival...she dresses them down. While said rival is in the middle of death throws. Then for the Dominus to punish them, by moving their bed chambers closer to the outhouse. Oh genius.

Fire and ice

Another win for the mating game! I enjoyed this book so much. The author takes us through all of the emotions, including some outrageous moments of hilarity where I found myself laughing out loud. I really enjoyed the way these two characters connected and the slow build of their relationship. Then she threw in the action and danger she does so well, and a HEA that I can’t wait to read again. I hope we get more books in this series, and more happy couples to fall in love with.

I just like the worlds that this author builds. The worlds are always magical. This one doesn't disappoint. I love the dragon wars in this series.

Orion has decided to take a mate. She doesn't have to love him only be beautiful, smart, have a degree, be a dragon, and be fertile. She doesn't even have to stick around to raise the children once they are hatched. He just wants children. Sadly there are only so many female dragons that are fertile. Maybe the Mating Game mating agency in oklahoma can help him....

Cadence is a shifter whose father was a dragon and mother was a wolf. Thankfully she got her mothers genes and turns into a wolf. Or at least she used to but not she doesn't know anymore. Now she must register with the dragon mating facility to basically pimp herself out to potential dragon mates. As if her life couldn't get any worse...until her best friend gets a deliciously horrible idea about a dragon male that came to the Mating Game earlier today.

Lovely book from start to finish. I started listening to it yesterday while cleaning my son's room and didn't stop listening to it until it was finished. I realized a little too late (as in when the book ended) that it was not book one. Luckily it is only book 2 and book 1 is already queued up on my audio-books. I may already know what the end game is but all the details is what makes a book worth reading anyway. Dating a dragon is really amazing. It is about polar opposites who couldn't be more right for one another. Sometimes what makes us different is what can also bring us together for the better. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I have.

Fire and Ice Dragons fall in love

What happens when fire meets ice? That's what happens when fire dragon Dominus Orion and half wolf shifter and ice dragon shifter Cadence meet then alot of drama and scary moments occur along the way to get Cadence to her full ice dragon glory. The fact that all the dragons no matter the clans are very protective of each other.

Pretty good. I liked the first book better though because the hero and heroine built a relationship (they talked, watched TV, and other couple things) before they mated and started a family. Never really was convinced they felt more than a smidge of passion and friendly affection for one another.

I have submitted this review after listening to the audiobook of this title.

When two dragons mate, you would think that was that. However, when an ice dragon and fire dragon are attracted to each other, it's not at all a happy affair.

I found this so-so. I didn't like the view delivered on women in this book, low on woman-power and more on cinderella. I don't think it was planned to sound like it, but it did not give me any moments where I found myself engrossed in the book. So... No.

Another great pairing from the best mating agency for prn beings. There is a kind of Romeo and Juliet without the dpu le suicide at the end. There are babies, evil doctors, family/clan fields, and lots of spice and drama.
Great narration.

What Is It About:
Cadence was born half-wolf shifter and half-dragon shifter. Recently, her dragon gene has become more dominant and she can no longer turn wolf. Dragons are known for having fertility issues, so when Cadence is tested and it comes out that she's uber-fertile, she's in danger of a forced mating just for children.
Orion goes to The Mating Game dating service in the hopes of finding a mate. He finds Cadence. As the grow closer, more and more things begin to put their future at risk: fire vs ice dragons, kidnapping dragon clans and homicidal baby-crazy dragons. So dragons all around.

What I Liked and Didn't:
I'll try to not be repetitive but an issue that I have with this book is the same one that I had with the first book of the series: the length of the book. Because the book is short-ish, that means that certain aspects of the book are cut short. There isn't much character development and I don't get invested in the characters, nor is there much foreshadowing because each event happens almost instantaneously to fit into the small word count.
With the characters, I think that I liked Orion more than I liked Cadence. I don't know what it is about a man wanting to settle down and have kids but it's so attractive. He came off as kind with a flirty side. I just think that Cadence's personality and character was just a bit squashed because the bulk of the story was about her inability to shift so other than that, there wasn't much of her shown other than the occasional moments of sass.
Plot-wise, obviously I think that it was cut too short but that's an annoyance because it was actually a pretty decent plot that I wish I'd been drawn out more. There are more differences between shifter society and dragons but they were only mentioned in passing and I would have loved to understand the society more. I wasn't really too fussed about the whole fire vs. ice thing but other than bickering, it was solved way too easily. I would have loved the plot with the clinic to have been a bit bigger. It seemed to go immediately from giving the eggs to the drama. Or even make the book longer and show more of the raising of the baby dragons cause they seemed so cute.

Final Thoughts:
You ever had the one small thing that annoys you? Where you know it doesn't matter and it's so small that other people may have missed it? For me, that's the end of this book. I don't know if it's my copy of the book or what but I think when it comes to continuity, an author should be exact because it's their creation. Okay, Cadence was four children: Katherine, Lucas, Estelle, and Jasper? But wait, isn't Daisy's son called Jasper too? Wow, isn't that dedication to a friendship for them both to call their sons Jasper *insert sarcasm here*. See what I mean, a really small thing that shouldn't have irked me but it has.
Would I recommend it? While I liked Miss St. Clair's books, I'm not particularly feeling this series. If someone has been skeptical about trying a dragon romance, then I say go for it but it isn't her best work.
Will I be carrying on the series? No thank you, I think this is where I give up on the series, but I'm not giving up on Miss St. Clair's books altogether.

Cadence has a problem.
Her mother is a wolf shifter.
Her father is a dragon shifter.
Her wolf has been dominant until recently.
Now her dragon is awakening.
She is tested for fertility and is found to be extremely fertile.
In order to prevent being forced into mating a creep, Cadence is ready to run.
When she in introduced to Orion another dragon shifter, she thinks she might have a chance at happiness.
But, there's a catch.
Orion is a fire dragon.
She is an ice dragon.
That brings a whole set of complications.
Including her father's clan auctioning her off to the highest bidder.
Orion offering her protection and safety.
And tons of family drama.

Cute lighthearted story

I really liked this story, for the most part it was cute and lighthearted though it did of course have it's evil protagonist.
It starts with a rich fire dragon shifter looking for a dragon mate to have his dragonlings. He tells the owner of a mating company his laundry list of what he's looking for exasperated she throws him out. The pregnant mate from a previous connection (you will need to read her story from book 1 to be up to date on that, which I would encourage as it's a good fun story too and would give some background) is coming in to talk to the mating company owner, passing him on the way in, and she wants to talk about a friend of her's that she believes should be set up for a mate. The owner tells her about the dragon shifter that just left thinking he's a jerk, but then also tells the pregnant woman that she sets up mates for life and is not a dating company and would not do anything unless the other woman came in and said she wanted a mate. A little while later the mated woman talks to her friend again and finds out that she's half dragon shifter and she found out she was extremely fertile after having some tests done and now because of these tests a number of relations and other clans of dragons have found out about her. Her friend, the mated woman, remembers the dragon shifter she had seen, had heard where he was and takes her friend to meet him. This is where all the fun begins! If you like shifter stories, especially dragon shifter stories, give this book a read! I'm sure most would enjoy it as I definitely did.

Received a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

This was really different compared to the first book in the series with Daisy and Ryker. It wasn't smooth sailing for either couple but this was different because of the whole fire and ice thing. Not only that there is a battle of sorts between her ice dragon families and his fire families. A lot of hate not on the part of Orion and Cadence though. She didnt want a forced mating and she wanted to mate and have her dragonings on her terms. Her father is an ice dragon but she's never met him because her mom hid her otherwise she would have been taken away from her and raised in the clan never to see her again. He's a nasty piece of work so she's always avoided her people til now. She meets Orion thanks to Daisy's interfering self :). They really ended up liking each other but once its found out she's ice and he's fire...it starts to get complicated. She can't shift into her dragon which there is a reason but you gotta read and find out! I wont give it all away! I ended up really liking the story. I would have liked more interaction between Orion and Cadence perhaps more focused them instead of everything else that was happening. Not saying there wasn't interaction there totally was and Orion can be really sweet. I thought maybe he would include her in his daily life and what he did with his businesses that kind of thing. Their romance was just different with all the circumstances. I totally recommend the read. Oh...and the sexy times was hawt! :)

So, I really enjoyed this, but there were a few issues that I had with it but it all revolved around the same thing: editing. This, just like the first book in the series, needed better editing. Let me elaborate:

Time lapses: At one point in the book Orion and Candence were about to get it on and they went from being in the bedroom to being outside in the span of just laying down. Also the timing with the eggs/pregnancy. There wasn't really any way for the reader to know the time span of how long every thing took from pregnancy to egg removal to the time they hatch. Did it take months? a few weeks? Also, I don't remember there being a proposal-or was them doing the nasty the proposal? They literally went from sex to marriage. Moments were skipped and there was a lot of detail that was cut out.

Editing: Just like the first book there were double words, unnecessary punctuation (i.e. two periods, a random comma), there were sentences that were partially deleted, paragraphs starting randomly. However, this one was WAY worse than the first book when it came to editing. The first book had an extra word here and there, but this was really bad.

The author really needs to have a second eye for these issues because the editing in this one was really bad. I enjoyed the overall story, and this it could have been a little better with better editing and less time lapses and lack of detail. I really did enjoy this book as a whole. I loved the story, scene setting, and the characters, it was just the background stuff that annoyed me.

Very good story, not so great editing.

As with the first The Mating Game book, the story was entertaining with tons of action and humor, but the editing leaves a bit to be desired. Confused pronouns, magically going from on the bed to lying in the grass during the same scene, and mixed up names that could cause some major confusion. But again, as I mentioned in my review of The Big Bad Wolf, all of these editing issues were not enough to cause me to stop reading or to distract from my enjoyment of the book.

Cadence, the heroine, is a hybrid shifter, half wolf and half ice dragon, though she's only recently started showing signs of being a dragon and losing her inner wolf, which she's had since she was born. Her dragon training is amusing as could be at times, as is Orion's courting of her. There are a few characters from The Big Bad Wolf that drop in during this book, which of course brings even more humor to the book. The fact that Orion is a fire dragon and Cadence is an ice dragon brought the action from many different sources.

I'd recommend this book to any fans of dragon shifter stories, though this one had some different characteristics to the dragons from what I've seen before. To me,that just added to the story. This can be read as a stand alone book, reading The Big Bad Wolf is not necessary. If you can get past some editing issues, this might be the books for you!!
