The Monocle Guide to Drinking and Dining

Rate this book
In this vibrant large-format manual, discover and explore good food and its power to shape both people and places. If Monocle were a restaurant it would be where local produce is simply prepared, wine is served without fuss, and all are welcome. It would anchor the neighborhood, support young chefs, and none would worry about Michelin stars. This world of slowish food and pleasures informs the forthcoming guide to food and drink. As with much of Monocle s work, it inspires those who would like to rescue a forlorn vineyard or corner store while revealing the best market in Helsinki or cafe in Auckland. It speaks to a global generation who may hold an MBA but feel that a decent burger chain is the way ahead. From famed faces sharing tales over supper to anecdotes from raconteurs and a sprinkling of recipes, our editors have prepared a truly nourishing experience. Hungry for more?"

A best of Monocle focused on all the good things in life...namely, eating and drinking. The book has sections on recipes, restaurants around the world, essays on how to be the perfect host plus food suppliers, all with photos. A coffee table book.

I loved the diversity of the chapters and the suggestions. I really liked the tools chapters, the essays, and the stories of the people behind the businesses. While some places were already closed in the meanwhile was lovely to hear their stories

Part of me wants to say it's great, part of me feels like the book mentions a lot of crucial elements but doesn't speak enough about - I am left with an unpleasant sense of meal partially missing on my plate

Another coffee table book with lots of useless writing, beautiful pictures, no real value.

I’m a devout Monocle Magazine reader, and this book is as fabulous as the magazine, maybe even more fabulous because it focuses solely on food and drink. At first glance it may seem like a regular book, but it is so much more than that. The volume is a gorgeous, cloth-bound hardcover with luxurious and super smooth matte paper. There are 10 fascinating chapters in the book that are packed with inspirational content. I slowly savored every single page.
