Guitarist of the world-famous rock band The Devil’s Share, no one would expect Jackson Cole to have a best friend who’s a girl, but his relationship with Bryan Lawson is too special to endanger with sex…until a different girl—the waifish nine-year-old who claims he’s her father—makes Jacks realize all that truly matters.

WILD. RECKLESS. IRRESPONSIBLE. A FATHER?

Jackson Cole has been called many things: immature, irresponsible, sexy as hell. But one thing he’s never been called is “Dad”—until Child Services shows up on his doorstep with a waifish nine-year-old claiming he’s the father. What’s a rock star to do? Call your best friend, who just happens to be super hot, funny, and even more commitment-phobic than you, and beg her to help. Of course, now that his friend is living in the same house, Jacks is finding it harder and harder to keep his hands to himself.

Bryan Lawson never expected to become pals with a charming, hilarious, breathtakingly handsome rock star, but after they met backstage at one of Jacks’s concerts, she couldn’t stop texting him. He’s just the sort of person she could imagine being with forever, except that, try as she might, she’s never managed to stay interested in a relationship for more than three months. Now that Jacks is a dad, the stakes are much higher. A breakup wouldn’t just ruin their friendship, it would destroy a little girl who’s just learning to love. But maybe also the game has changed.

I live in Austin, Texas with my husband, daughter, 3 rescue dogs, 1 cat, and one bunny (that doesn't seem to like us). I love reading romance novels as much as I love writing them. I feel like inspiration can come from anywhere; a song lyric, a quote, a weekend with friends. The tiniest things can spark amazing stories.

Aren’t hot guitarists in a world-famous rock band supposed to be free-wheeling, party animals? Don’t they have groupies at every stop just dying to be another notch on their bedposts, or restrooms or broom closets? Color Jackson Cole, guitarist for The Devil’s Share a total stereotypical man whore. Well, make that former man whore as he finds a long distance best friend in Bryan Lawson, beautiful, and free-spirited Bryan, who doesn’t want another boyfriend.

It all began with The Knock on the Door and suddenly, the poster child for irresponsibility has been given the greatest responsibility of all, being a father to a nine-year-old girl, whose life has been hard, to say the least. What would you do? You'd call your best friend to freak out, of course, and maybe plead for help, too. Being a good best friend, Bryan comes running, fresh out of university finals. The woman who wants to live free has just set herself up for a total eclipse of the heart and it isn’t just the smart little girl standing I front of her it’s the big bad rocker looking terrified, too.

Is Landry the one who will make a family out of two reluctant hearts that are too afraid to say, “I love you?” Hang on to your heartstrings as L.P. Maxa brings us Play Fair and takes The Devil’s Share and Jackson in particular, deeper into the world of growing up, discovering what is truly important in life and makes a man out of an overgrown kid in just a heartbeat. If this is what it took for Jackson to stop trying to self-implode and to share the secrets of his heart with Bryan, then it is quite possible that Cupid does like Rock and Roll!

Absolutely the most fun of the series, the most heart-wrenching and, well, geez, L.P. Maxa pulled out all the stops, there was even a puppy! This one had me grinning and saying, AHA! I knew IT, but don’t think the trail to the end is all hearts and flowers, there is some pretty intense depth of feeling going on and this author has rocked every page!
I received this copy from L.P. Maxa in exchange for my honest review.

What do you get when put two of America’s most wanted in the same motherf@$kin’ place at the same motherf@$kin’ time? Just kidding, that’s Tupac and Snoop Dog. What do you get when you put two hot-as-f$%k commitment-phobes in the same motherfuckin’ place at the same motherf@$kin’ time? You get a very anxious Sasha, who wants to know when these two are going to stop being “best friends” and f$%k like porn stars… that’s what you get! You also get an insane amount of my kind of humor.
L.P. Maxa’s rocker romance series, The Devil’s Share, is one of my favorites. I love how she intertwines the lives of all the male and female characters in her series. It takes a sharp mind and attention to detail in order to work so well with a large cast of characters and ensure each personality is defined and stands alone.
I was anxious for Luke’s story since he’s acting like a f$%king… well, rock star these days. Nevertheless, I got Play Fair, and it made my day. Literally, it made my day. I love Jacks. I loved the immature, zero f$%ks, I’m a bad boy and I know it, Jacks Cole, lead guitar player for The Devil’s Share. I knew L.P. was going to toy with my precious Jacks. I knew he might grow up, and I was a little sad about that, but I’m a sucker for a story about growth and absolution.
Jacks fucking Cole has a ten-pound c*$k and he knows how to work it. He’s probably f$%ked half of America, but that’s okay. He’s a rock star, he’s supposed to do those things. He is the ultimate bad boy. He parties hard and f$%ks harder. Then he met his bandmate’s (Smith), girlfriend’s (Dylan), little sister at a rock music festival and tried to put the moves on her. Sista wasn’t having that sh@t, but after their initial meeting, they became friends.
They communicate long-distance while the band records in Florida, and Bryan finishes her college degree. He gets her into gaming and they play online with each other. They text, Skype, and talk non-stop after the festival, becoming best friends. Jacks Cole begins to let old habits die without realizing he’s doing it, and then he’s forced to look at the reasons why he’s changing when it’s pointed out.
A little girl showing up on your doorstep claiming to be your child will bring life to a screeching halt. Jacks does the only thing he knows to do and reaches out to his best friend Bryan, who hours earlier had finished her last college final exam. She boards a flight and heads to Florida. Of course she is awesome as f$%k, so when the married man sitting beside her tries to punch her mile-high card, she epically shuts his @ss down. I’m not going to ruin this scene for you, it had me bowled over with laughter.
So then you put two attractive people in the same house with other rock stars and their equally awesome women, and then you add in an older, protective sister who is not feeling Bryan and Jacks’ relationship, and all kinds of awesome sh@t is going to happen. L.P. is going to make you laugh, a lot. She’s also going to get you all hot and bothered.
I love that even though Jacks grows so much in this book, he is still Jacks. He’s still hilarious, he’s still hot-as- f$%k, and he’s still naughty. I have to admit the depth his character reaches in this book makes his character even more appealing than it already was, and I’m okay with L.P. making him act a little adultish. She did a superb job in balancing Jacks’ personality with the all the new adulting. I enjoyed watching him realize what he’d done to so many women over the years and how that affects him on such a monumental level. Jacks really becomes a man in this book, and I love how well he and Bryan meshes together.
I’m not giving away any spoilers, but if you want a book about naughty rock stars that will tug at your heartstrings, make you horny, and laugh like hell then Play Fair is your next one-click. If you want to read a book about a pregnant woman who sneaks midnight snacks and threatens rock star lives when they try to take away her fried chicken, then this is your next book. If you want to watch a child who had never been shown love come out of her shell because a house full of rockers love her, then baby, this is the one. If you want to read a book about two flighty people who became friends and try to fight all those damn feelings, you’ll want to read this book.
The chemistry is explosive, the humor is delightful, the love is plentiful, the sex is mind-blowing, and absolution is found through love. This book is a five-star read. I don’t bullsh@t about books. I don’t bullsh@t about anything, but especially not about books. Read this f$%king book and then leave a review for L.P.! Then go read all her other books and leave reviews on those too.
Now, after that book, I think I’ll go see what Dane is doing.

Review:
“My core tightened when I watched him play the guitar. I’d wanted him to kiss me on more than one occasion. I got chills when he touched me. We were either playing with fire or on the verge of something really amazing.”

5 Jackson has captured my heart stars!! My favorite book of the series!

Jackson is the guitarist of The Devil’s Share rock group. And he’s best friends with Bryan, who also happens to be a girl. They’re beyond close and they’ve vowed never to ruin it with sex. Jacks life totally changes when he finds out he has a nine year old daughter. Not knowing what to do, he relies on Bryan to help him figure out how to be a father. And as she starts to spend more time around Jacks and his daughter, both of them realize there’s more to their friendship, but is Jacks ready to start a relationship that could break his daughter’s heart if they fell apart??

I’ve been a fan of this series since book one and I will say without a doubt this is now my favorite book in the series!! I loved Jacks from the minute I started the series, but now getting his background and story, ugh, I love him even more!! L.P. knows how to write a great story, that are not only sexy, but so much fun!! I’m a huge fan!!!

3.5 -4 stars.

Funny, sweet and relatively drama free.

I liked both main characters. I liked how they started off as best friends and the way they were dancing around each other. It was cute and I was routing for them.

There was really only one bit I didn't like and that's why I couldn't go any higher with my rating.

Dylan was also a bit too harsh with the way she kept putting Jacks and her sister, Bryan, down. I thought since she kind of went through something similar with people trying to look out for her and smith that she would understand and be more supportive.

Landry was a sweet, scared little girl who just wanted a real family and I'm glad she got her HEA in the end.

It wasn't the greatest story that I would remember it for a long time to come but it was enjoyable and I'm glad I checked it out. If you can look past what I've written in the spoiler than I think you'd probably like this book for a nice relaxing read.

This was great. Again this author has built a strong relationship between the H and h quickly without it being shallow.

Jacks, the guitarist, met Dylan's sister, Bryan, when they were at a festival in New Orleans in the last book. The band has now finished touring and are at a house in Florida together writing their next album. Bryan is finishing college. This book opens with Jack's and Bryan's text messages that they have been sending each other since they met. They have built a friendship and call and text each other daily. So when a nine-year-old girl is brought to the door by Social Service who claim that Jacks is her father, Bryan is the first person he calls for help.

This has all the fantastic characters from the other books and the wonderful way they are a family together and for Jacks' daughter. I loved the way Jacks and Bryan stepped up and that there was no silly running away or breakup for some perceived issue. It was just a more grown up way to handle things to work through their problems together and to fight for a way to sort it out as a couple.

So this is book 3 in the Devil's Share series and is Jacks and Bryan's story. I absolutely loved Bryan and Jacks – I loved that they became friends first.. then Besties.. then well.. you know how that sort of goes.. LOL.
Jacks is the lead guitarist in the band – and Byran is Dylan’s sister.. Jacks and Bryan meet when she came to a concert – one thing led to another and they decided to be besties.. Although none of the band knows of this said relationship.. When Jacks gets the surprise of his life the first person he calls is his bestie.. he needs her now more than he ever did .. and let me tell you… I LOVED LANDRY!!! She is just the sweetest!!!
Thank you for the Amazing read!! Cant wait for Luke's book!!

This was a really cute story and I really liked it. Jacks is the guitar player Devils Share and he’s gorgeous and of cause a man whore. So not surprising when a social worker shows up at his door with his nine year old daughter. He turns to his best friend Bryan, that’s Dylan’s younger sister who’s living with Smith. If you are confused with all of these girls with boy names I definitely understand. This story pulls at the heartstrings because this little undernourished girl was alone for a week before cops were called. Her mom, well that was a little shocker I can’t tell you about. We all know even a crappy mom sometimes has a heart. I recommend this book and I can’t wait to read book four because it goes back to Lexi and Dash.

A smile, laughs and tears

The title of this book is very appropriate because" playing fair" can be taken a whole a lot of ways in this book.

In book 3 It's Jacks story but true to form you get the whole Rocker crew. Jacks gets the surprise he did not expect...while trying to figure out things with his BFF.... Bryan.

Hold on to your hats people and grab a tissue box cause this book will grab a hold of your heart!!!! Do yourself a favor and start this series of you haven't.

This was such a sweet book - and a great series that has rock stars but also a lot of heart. I only had one issue with the book - why did he suddenly call her his best friend on every page? They truly met once and then texted and got close (which I fully believe is possible, especially during quarantine) but when both were like ~ we could never do anything to jeopardize our best friendship ~ all the time it felt lame because don't they have any pals other than each other? /Rant over, it's a fun, super sweet romance.

HOLY S*** LP Maxa has done it again!!! Fantastic is an understatement for this book, everything about is spot on...
Jacks is the guitarist of the Devil's Share, with gorgeous looks and band status, a total man-whore! Except with his BFF Bryan who is the younger sister to Dylan (who's seeing Smith, the bassist!). The attraction is definitely there but friendship means more, right?
Bryan has only actually met Jacks once at a show, but over time their friendship has grown and they speak daily! She has a problem with commitment and can't ever see herself ready to settle down....
Following a huge shock, Bryan comes to visit. You can actually feel the energy between these two and they are both determined that friendship is best... Until things change!!!
With twists in the story you won't be able to stop reading, i couldn't! This book i definitely a 10/10 read and with the huge plot turn towards the end, i'm sure that anyone who reads it will agree!!! A brilliant book with the perfect amount of everything... Another kickass book from an amazing author!!!... PERFECT!!!

I have read this story a few times but my review seems to have disappeared. As I have just re read this story, I decided to write another.

Play fair is book three in the Devil’s share series. I love this series but play fair is my favourite. Why? Because I love Jacks and want to steal him away from Bryan and keep him as my own. That being said, I love Bryan too. I could not think of a better person for Jacks to be with. They are perfect for one another. I loved that they started off as best friends. Bryan was always there for Jacks when he needed her. The chemistry between them was clear to see even at the start when they were only speaking over text and phone calls. Jacks and Bryan had that type of chemistry where they could sit in silence in a room together and it wouldn’t be awkward. I liked the addition of Landry and the little points of view we got from her. Jacks wasn’t sure how to handle taking care of a nine year old that was said to be his child. That being said, he didn’t let her be put into foster care when he had the chance. Despite not knowing how to be a parent, he handled it well and was a good father to Landry. I liked that they quickly bonded despite Landry understandably having her guard up. I loved that Bryan rushed to be by Jacks side when he needed her. I loved that she quickly bonded with Landry. Dylan irritated me in this story. I like her but I wanted to tell her to stop trying to separated Bryan and Jacks. Bryan saw the real Jacks. She saw what others didn’t see. The others loved him but they saw a silly womanizer that didn’t take life or anything seriously. Bryan saw Jacks loving and sensitive side. She saw how kind and caring he was. Overall, she SAW him.
Every time I read this story I have a cheesey smile on my face throughout.
The storyline for this book is easy to follow and an enjoyable read. I would recommend reading this book as part of the series.

Play Fair is about guitarist Jacks and his best friend Bryan, also Dylan baby sister. Jacks and Bryan has been best friends since they met up in New Orleans, for a festival that the guys played in and where Smith had Dylan’s family meet up with them. Smith new Jacks and Dylan would like each other but never realized how close they have gotten. Jacks stopped his partying ways so he would not miss his nightly phone calls with Bryan. They would game together, text each other, talk about their relationships with other people. One day the Devil’s Share gets a knock on there door, and Jacks not waiting for the little girl Landry, on the other side. Not knowing what to do, he calls on his best friend to help, and Dylan can’t tell him no. She is a flight risk and Jacks is a manwhore, but maybe Landry is what they need.

Jacks is my favorite character in the Devil’s Share Series. What everybody doesn’t realize around him, is he is the heart of the band. He is a great, loving, loyal man who fights what he wants and adjust to situations. He always thinks he horrible at it, but he takes the bull by the horns. Bryan is a flight risk, she is a wild spirit that likes to be free. She never had a relationship that lasted more than a few months. She is one of the girls that is just one of the guys. Landry truly outshines in this story. She is an adorable terrified girl that has a backbone more than any of the adults in this book. Just like all the other books you get the banter and dialogue. This book you also get to see how Luke and Lexi situation is going. My heart goes out to him, talk about a hard place. I hope you love Jacks as much as I do. This series is on my highly recommended list.

love love love this book. jacks is such a sweetie. he is sexy, bad boy guitar player who used women, not caring about them at all, until he meets Bryan and everything changes, he hasn't gone out since meeting her and they became bffs. he would rather spend the night talking to her or playing video games than going out. he doesn't realize that he is falling for his best friend. Bryan is flighty in her relationships they don't last past three months. but when jacks calls her because a social worker shows up at his house with his 9 year old daughter, who has been abandoned by her mother for 2 weeks, Bryan heads to Florida to help out her bff. Landry has had it rough, having to take care of herself because her mother was not there for her, even when she was home. Landry was always an afterthought. so now she is living with her dad, Bryan and all the band members and girlfriends. and she is loving it. it takes some time but she starts to bond with everyone. jacks and Bryan can't fight their attraction any more and everyone finally sees that the never serious jacks is a stand up dad and would do anything for his girls. it's a little tough, jacks and Bryan working through their relationship, their friends, Landry's mom coming back and making Landry feel safe and loved, but they manage it. this story is sweet, funny, sexy. I loved it. everything the characters, the story line. amazing. can't wait to read Luke's story next.

Captivating!

Jackson and Bryan's journey started with a close friendship. Jackson is the consummate rockstar and self proclaimed "man whore". Bryan is a beautiful commitment-phob. Against all odds these two become friends after meeting through her sister back stage. Bryan's sister Dylan fell hard for Jackson's band mate but, Dylan has never been with a guy longer than 3 months. When Jackson's wild lifestyle catches up with him in the form of an 8 year old daughter, he immediately reaches out to his BF Bryan. She has just graduated and is coming up on the 3 month mark with her latest boyfriend, so when Jackson leaves a ticket for her she takes the next flight out. Watching these two fall in love each other as they both fall in love with Jackson's daughter will make your melt. I loved this book and can not wait to read her next book.

Every book by this chick is like all my favorite holidays rolled into a big orgasm

There's a new rocknroll romance sheriff in town, and she knows her stuff y'all. Wear your helmet, seatbelts and keep your body parts inside the book at all times because it's gonna go fast. And you don't want to miss a single letter.
No synopsis here, you can that read for yourself elsewhere. Just know that these books are funny, each character has their own unique quirks, speech mannerisms and once you strap in, your day is shot cuz you've dropped everything to finish it. Congrats, now you know what a crack addict feels like.
Definitely in my top 10 authors of all time. I just hope she dreams up another band to follow around in her head. Or I'll be in some serious withdrawal.
Now why are you still reading my drivel? Go buy this freakin book already!

This is the third book in the Devil's Share series and is Jacks and Bryan's story. I have loved Jacks from the beginning of the series, but I fell IN love with him in this book. He is amazing! He has such a tender heart and so much love to give it slayed me. And I must say that Landry stole my heart. I was a little (okay, a lot!) peeved at Dylan in this book. She was not supportive and although I admire that she was being protective in her own way, I just wanted to smack her. Lexi was hilarious as ever and the boys were swoon worthy as always. I highly recommend you buy this book (He!!, this entire series!) NOW!!

Worth the freaking wait. Jacks oh my baby Jacks. DANG!!! I have so many curse words I want to say but him and Bryan are my second favorite couple in this series. Mother bear had heart and did everything to protect her baby. Blood or not family and family and like Luke said, they protect.

This was a great story of growth within yourself and accepting the past as a life lesson. Fighting for what you want and owning up to what more you have to offer. Togetherness and willingness to put someone beside yourself first.

LP Maxa did Jack justice. Just 5+ freaking family bff stars.

Cute. Guitarist Jackson, major player, falls for his bandmate's girlfriend's little sister, Bryan (she is a girl, I promise). Develops as a friendship at first. But once a nine year old little girl is dropped off at his house because it is believed he is her father and her mother abandoned her, he calls his 'best friend' to come help him. Of course their friendship develops into something more, despite Bryan's past history of getting bored and dumping all her boyfriends after a few months.

It was cute, enjoyable, but it just wasn't deep enough for me.

I have loved ever second of this series so far and play fair is just as amazing as the previous two books.
I can't even say how much I love Jacks, he's witty, funny, sexy & cute as hell when it comes to his girls. This is one of my favourite best friends to lovers stories, it has so much heart in it and jesus did it pull on my heart strings. With each book I read in this series the more I love these characters and the more I want to read. I'm so in love with this series I can't even put it into words how much you need it in your life to read.
