New York Times bestselling and award-winning author, Wanda E. Brunstetter is one of the founders of the Amish fiction genre. She has written close to 90 books translated in four languages. With over 10 million copies sold, Wanda's stories consistently earn spots on the nations most prestigious bestseller lists and have received numerous awards.
Wanda’s ancestors were part of the Anabaptist faith, and her novels are based on personal research intended to accurately portray the Amish way of life. Her books are well-read and trusted by many Amish, who credit her for giving readers a deeper understanding of the people and their customs.
When Wanda visits her Amish friends, she finds herself drawn to their peaceful lifestyle, sincerity, and close family ties. Wanda enjoys photography, ventriloquism, gardening, bird-watching, beachcombing, and spending time with her family. She and her husband, Richard, have been blessed with two grown children, six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Self-centered Joel is still deceiving Kristi about his past upbringing and present dire financial situation. When he is forced to reveal some truths, he shifts the blame and fails to take full responsibility for his actions. He still thinks that getting his hands on some big money will be the solution to all his problems, but his single-mindedness doesn't let him see the larger character issues degrading his morals and ethics.
it's hard to reconcile the Joel of the present with the Joel of the past. Humility is a key component of the Amish lifestyle, but it seems Joel's vanity is a major flaw in his character. Will the loss of a wonderful, caring woman be enough for him to acknowledge the error of his ways and return to an honest, steadfast life, guided by virtuous principles? Or will the potential for a large payoff find him demeaning his character once again all for the pursuit of money? Despite crumbling relationships, his troubled soul, and a faltering business, I don't think Joel has hit his rock bottom yet.
Joel's actions admonish that lies beget more lies, and the truth always comes out, usually when you least expect it. Honesty is always the best policy, for trust and respect, and for its easy, short, and direct path.
Dumb bitch alert—it’s Christy. Here’s a list of Joel’s red flags Christy has ignored. 1. He stole money from their joint savings account. 2. He asked for money/Eustice’s will at Eustice’s funeral. 3. He’s a car guy. 4. He booped her on the nose and said “penny for your thoughts”
Yeah okay the cliffhanger is them “breaking up”, but I just know this dumb bitch is gonna take him back and wanna convert to Amish-ism or whatever you call it.
Kristi finally knows about the car. Sigh. Okay now that's out of the way, because it was bugging me so much. I can't believe how callous Joel is. He doesn't care at all about his father's death, only about the will, which is so frustrating. How could Kristi still want to be with even, even not knowing about the money? And his poor sisters. Trying to deal with his death and he keeps badgering them about what is inheritance is. So sad. Honestly, I would drop Joel if I were them, even if he is their brother. He clearly doesn't care about them. I'm so happy for Kristi that she dumped him. He deserved it so much.
This serial series of Amish and English life comes to the half way point of the story. As serial stories of the days when we had Saturday Evening Post and Grit, the end of each makes you look forward to the next installment. Even though I have book four now, and will probably gobble it up in short order, I wonder how this story would be accepted if it were done in a weekly publication of a by gone era. There are times I wished I lived at that time and looked forward to the next issue on the newsstand or in my mailbox. Overall I am enjoying this series and hope the authors continue to write more series this way.
I don't understand why this author is so popular - this book is just so poorly written. The dialogue feels fake, all the characters lack depth.. Meh.
Whatever, this counts as a "Book by two female authors" for my 2019 Popsugar Reading Challenge, and "An Inspirational Romance" for my 2019 Romance Reading Challenge.
Two stars for the awkward conversation between Kristi and her mom starring mom's passive-aggressive responses. No stars for the ultra suspish case of the flu (cough cough morning sickness).
This book is totally amazing. The characters in this story are very special people that you will enjoy reading about. You won't be able to stop reading this wonderful book. You will feel God working throughout this whole book.
Okay well Kristi finally found out about the bank account and the car...She seems to have finally come to her senses and left Joel. Even though she kept ignoring every red flag! He is ridiculous. I hope he gets better in the other books, but I'm not going to read any more. I find his character really irritating and frustrating. Also I am still struggling with the writing style. Even though the setting is interesting and the characters intersting plots they don't seem to be explained in a deep way. Things seem very surface level and not how realistic conversations would go.
This is book 3 in a series of 6. In this book Joel's father has died and Kristi finds out for the first time that Joel was Amish. They attend the funeral together, and Kristi meets Joel's family. Unfortunately all Joel is concerned about is his father's will. One more thing happens and Kristi is ready to call off their engagement. In this book the reader also meets Joel's Amish girlfriend who he broke up with in order to leave the Amish community. Things are not going well for Joel.
Finally got a book in the series that kept me on my toes. Eustace and Joel's situation made my heart hurt. Aunt Verna really needs to invest in a hearing aide. The reality is Eustace and Joel are so much alike it's funny. Kristi is unbelievably naive. I now have to finished the series to see how it all ends. Poor Anna.
In this third part of The Amish Millionaire serial novel we find Joel Byler still being selfish and dishonest. He has deceived his fiancee Kristi Palmer by having an expensive car without her knowledge and he has also kept her from knowing about his Amish upbringing. A family tragedy and its aftermath make all of this known to Kristi and she finally realizes that he is certainly not the man that she believed him to be. Her discovery of money being withdrawn from their joint account seems to be the final straw. Will this be the end of their relationship?
I admit that I found it hard to feel sorry for Joel. He had been raised in an environment that stressed the value of hard work and frugal living so he knew the consequences of a lavish lifestyle. His parents had taught him to be honest and to honor and obey God but he continued to lie and then blame God for his problems. He had the love and trust of a wonderful young woman but he didn't seem to truly appreciate her. How could an Amish man have turned out like this?
In this book Wanda E. Brunstetter and her daughter-in-law Jean have chosen to show that the Amish aren't immune to problems and that none of them are perfect. I am looking forward to reading The Missing Will to see if Joel can be redeemed and if there is a future for him and Kristi.
Kristi went with Joel to his father's funeral & met his Amish family. She finds his sisters t0 be delightful & they gave her a wall hanging his mother had made when she was alive. After the funeral, Joel makes a scene when he demands to see his father's will. The family doesn't know where it is or even if their father had one. He says he will call about it the following week. Kristi is shocked that Joel is so money hungry that he will bring this up when they are grieving after just burying their father that day. Then Kristi makes a deposit in their joint savings account & the teller gives her the balance in the account. Kristi is shocked. She goes to Joel's job to confront him. He admits that he took the money to pay some 0f his sub-contractors. She is mad--they had agreed that they wouldn't take the money out that they were saving for their wedding. Then, the last straw--Kristi drives up when Joel has the Corvette outside to polish it. Joel has to tell her the truth: the car is his. Kristi blew up. Going behind her back & lying about three things. she tells him they are through.
The Betrayed Fiancee is the third book in Wanda Brunstetter's new series, The Amish Millionaire. Wanda and her daughter in law Jean are cowriting this series and are doing a wonderful job. This book continues with the story as to why Joel Byler has left his Amish family and community to live in the English world. Joel has been keeping many secrets from his fiancee. What will happen when he starts revealing them to Kristi? Will she be able to forgive Joel?
This is a wonderful story line and it shows what happens when you think more of yourself than those you confess to love. Can hurt feelings and betrayal really be forgiven?
I was not not given a complimentary copy of this book but I don't hesitate to submit my honest review. I have also given Wanda's book a 5 star rating for a wonderful addition to the series. I will be anxious to read the next book when it is released June 1st.
Book # 3 in the Amish Millionaire Series we find out the Eustace has died from lightening strike. Kristi finally finds out that Joel is Amish and left the faith after learning he was going to his fathers funeral. Kristi goes along and meets Joel's 3 sisters and is giving a quilted wall hanging that Joel's mother made. Before leaving after the funeral Joel asks about the will. No one knows where it is at. A few days later Kristi finds out that Joel had taken money out of their joint account without her knowing. The final straw for Kristi is when she shows up at Joel's house and sees the Corvette he bought.
This is book 3 of 6 about Kristi and her Financee Joel. If you haven't read book 1 and 2 you won't have any idea of what is going on. Joel has been lying to Kristi all the time they have been together and after spending money from their joint account on a car without telling her,she is done. Joel's father dies and that is when Kristi finds out he was Amish and the only reason he cares that is father died is because of the money he might have left him. You are left at the end of the book with a very depressing outlook.
Interesting tiny book. Interesting way to publishing separating a book into a mini series, but if you purchased all 6 @ $6.99/each.....what an expensive book! THAT said....if I had a young teen or someone who struggled to finish a book, these would be a good way to get them to read a smaller mini series book and then with a sense of accomplishment move onto the next one. As always, the Mrs. Brunstetter offers a down to earth story, and coming in on part 3, I felt like I wasn't lost in the story. The library had #3 and 4 on the shelves and they are a quick read, worth an evening each.
Finally! Kristi finds out about Joel's out-of-control spending, his Amish family, and the miscellaneous lies he's been telling her. I love how Joel's greediness is portrayed, and Kristi's acceptance of him - until she finds out about the Corvette & how he stole from their joint bank account. Now that Joel's father, Eustace, is dead from a lightning strike, Joel can't wait to get his hands on his father's will, considering the vast oil reserves the father owned on his land. The drama just keeps building. I never would have guessed I would have been this intrigued by Amish fiction.
The Brunstetter's are really pushing it calling each story in this series a complete book. They barely qualified as novellas, maybe essay would be a better description. All six parts of this series might equal an earlier Brunstetter Charging full price for this story is an insult to Wanda's true fans.
This is the installment where things go even further sideways for Joel as Kristi figures out how deceitful he's been with her. This book did not end on a cliffhanger, and there was not much 'action' in it, so to speak, but it did serve to move the plot of the saga forward.
Such an exciting story. I could hardly wait to get into the next book with the adventures in this story. I think Eustace Byler was the hero in this series. He loved his son and stood firm to prove it.
Book 3 of 6. Just like the first 2 I couldn’t put it down. It began right where book 2 left off. Throughout this book I just wanted to knock some sense into Joel many times. I can’t wait to finish the series to see if he finally comes to his senses.
