PRIDE AND PUNISHMENT by Nia Farrell is an erotic retelling of a Jane Austen classic. Characters that you thought you knew…well, they’re ready to reveal their secret selves. Mr. Darcy is a Dominant. Miss Elizabeth Bennet is submissive. Jane Bennet might be the only “handsome” woman in Meryton, but puppy-like Charles Bingley needs a Mistress with a firm hand. Mr. Darcy believes that Jane lacks steel in her corset and separates the couple.
His growing lust for Miss Elizabeth leads him to confess his desire to dominate her – a proposition that she mistakes for a proposal. Already accused of less-than-gentlemanlike behavior, Darcy must find a way to win the submissive heart of a woman who abhors him.
Described as "Pride and Prejudice meets 50 Shades of Grey," Pride and Punishment is not your mother's Austen. This is a deliciously different BDSM erotic romance written for ages 18+.
The original dialogue has been kept intact when possible. Passages modified to fit this retelling are rife with subtext and laden with innuendo. The basic timeline is essentially the same as Pride and Prejudice, but the characters populating the pages now include Darcy’s bisexual cousin Hugh, his dominant Aunt Catherine/Mistress Cat, his “little” cousin Anne, his submissive sister Georgiana, kinky defiler-of-virgins George Wickham, lesbian switch Caroline Bingley, and militiamen who see more action in their bunks than out. This erotic Regency romance includes MF relationships, MFM ménage sexual congress, and BDSM activities and is written for adults only.

As one reviewer puts it, “If you love sensual, emotional and powerful romance with a definite D/s dynamic, you should be reading Author Nia Farrell.”
I have read and loved Jane Austen's original Pride and Prejudice on a number of occasions, so it was with qualms that I read Nia Farrell's version, Pride and Punishment, and I have to say on the whole, with a few exceptions, it is very good.
Austen's version is story told through the eye's of Miss Eliazabeth Bennett. Nia's version I was pleased to see was from Mr. FItzwilliam Darcy's point of view. The language used on the whole flows as Austen's, of course set in Regency times; though a few errors will be spotted by Austen or Regency literacy officionados...worst faux pas for me had to be the ginger haired, plump lipped twink...erm, twink, not invented, term not used then, so for these errors, such as the prior to deflowering scene, although very erotic, was definitely not in keeping with how Regency Miss Elizabeth brought up and purported to be as a young lady of the highest morals, hence I give four as opposed to five stars.
Edited to add that 'twink' has now become 'molly' which is totally in keeping with the time, and Nia has changed this to all new subscribers. 23/8/16
I loved the idea of Lady Catherine de Bourgh being a Domme...just suits her overbearing character. I would recommend it to those who love Regency era literature, but I think modern miss who has never dealt with the difference in language and nuances will find some difficulty.
I also think those who want chaste and pure may need to think twice or at least walk into this with eyes open as Nia's, Darcy and Hugh frequent a very different club to those mentioned in prior gentlemen's clubs ;) however, I did enjoy his sessions with towel and fantasies at night. I guess I shall have to watch my DVD again and see Colin Firth from Nia's characters point of view.
Glad I read this. Close to a five star read. Updated, to just 5 stars in light of changes. 23/8/16 CP
This adds a good bit of sexual kink to the classic story in a surprisingly credible and well-written way.
Mr. Darcy is a Dominant attracted to Elizabeth Bennet but aware that she's not really part of his world - neither in his social sphere nor among the company he keeps when he's satisfying his sexual cravings. His friend Bingley, on the other hand, is a Submissive who needs a Mistress with a "stiff corset" to give him the discipline he requires. Miss Jane Bennet seems way too sweet and pliable herself to fit that role. Caroline Bingley generally prefers other women, but she would submit to Mr. Darcy in a hot minute if he'd give her the opportunity (which he doesn't). Georgiana is still devastated after having been saved from Wickham's depravity - he was poised to rape her and has a thing for young girls. Darcy and his cousin, Colonel Hugh Fitzwilliam, enjoy a close, brotherly relationship and share sexual partners at a private club they frequent in London.
The above are some of the additions to the traditional Pride and Prejudice plot, which remains more or less intact and provides a solid base for the rest. Mr. Darcy tells the story himself, sharing his perspective on all the familiar scenes from JA's novel in which he appears, occasionally cursing (yes, with the F-bomb) when he's particularly displeased. Additionally, the reader learns what he was doing and thinking before his momentous arrival in Hertfordshire and during the intervals between his various encounters with Miss Elizabeth. His activities and imaginings are definitely X-rated.
The author includes Jane Austen's dialogue in her storytelling. Ms. Farrell's writing blends with JA's better than I thought possible with a BDSM twist. The content itself didn't shock me because I knew what to expect from the book description. I did find the Hunsford proposal scene to be a bit too Pride and Prejudice and Zombies for my taste: Darcy and Elizabeth pause in the middle of their acrimonious conversation long enough for him to give Elizabeth her first orgasm, and then the argument resumes. It's the only time the contrast seems jarring, and it's during THE pivotal scene in the book. Otherwise, Pride and Punishment is much better written than the infamous Fifty Shades of Grey.
Recommended, but only for very liberal-minded readers.
What do you get if you blend an English literary classic with a delicious BDSM perspective?
That is the question - but before I answer, an admission from me - I am not an Austen fan. I have read Austen; I persevered with a great number of her novels and yet I have never particularly enjoyed reading them. When Nia Farrell asked me to read an advanced copy of her erotic re-telling of Pride and Prejudice, I agreed with a level of trepidation, and so it's with some delight I can report to absolutely adoring her new release Pride and Punishment - An Erotic Retelling of Jane Austen's Beloved Classic!
This is the Austen novel I always wanted to read. I'll admit it - I like sexual chemistry between characters, but it has to *go* somewhere to satisfy me. The tentative glances and untold yearning lead to little but frustration from this reader, and in this new re-telling, Nia is able to deliver both British social etiquette AND scintillating scenes of BDSM.
She is faithful to the original narrative in almost every way... But she spices it with the most enticing dynamic between the dominant alpha-male, Mr. Darcy, and the object of his lust, Miss Elizabeth Bennet. Written entirely from his point of view, we see Darcy pursue her with all of the gallantry and poise that you would expect from Austen, but we also know his true intentions... We know that he enjoys the challenge she represents, and we know that he desires to bind and spank Elizabeth. We grow to understand his need, and in doing so the reader also becomes aware of the untold, burgeoning needs within Miss Bennet herself.
Many of us already know these characters. We are familar with their stories and their perspectives. This book is not a departure in terms of narrative or plot, but that's not its purpose. It brings something absolutely new to the table; it brings pleasure and gratification where there was previously none. It brings tenderness and intimacy to the pairing of Darcy and Bennet. I found it to be totally believable and utterly arousing.
So, what do you get if you blend an English literary classic with a delicious BDSM perspective? You get a whole new audience - a collection of readers who would have been left uninspired by the original classic. Of course some people will not enjoy this book - they may be upset by this re-telling, and offended by the new version. I am not one of these people. *This* Mr. Darcy wooed and haunted me. Bravo, Ms. Farrell - if only Austen had been more like this at school... Maybe I'd have been a fan?
It is a wonder people knew what people really meant oh so long ago. They seem to say much more than is necessary and in such a roundabout manner. It's a wonder our civilization continued!
Pride and Punishment is a wonderful look at Jane Austin's original ... with a twist or is it a kink? I love how Mr. Darcy was so tempted by Miss Elizabeth and tried so hard (literally!) to stay away from her. It was interesting to see how far characters would go in this kinky version to get their point across. I loved the way everyone but Elizabeth bowed to Mistress Cat!
As I read this book, I found myself alternately impressed and horrified. I was impressed by the author's clever mixing of fictional BDSM erotic romance with Jane Austin's Pride and Prejudice, and I was horrified by the mixture of BDSM with the classic romance written by a beloved author. Yup, impressed and horrified pretty much sums it up.
Having the story told through Darcy's point of view made it easier to almost imagine those were Darcy's true thoughts during some of the classic interactions between Elizabeth and Darcy. I particularly enjoyed the clever intermixing during the scenes at Netherfield Hall during Jane's illness. Those worked far better for me than the reimagined disastrous first proposal at the parsonage. I found it very hard to accept that Elizabeth would react in such a way to Mr. Darcy's entirely inappropriate physical demonstration.
I love Pride and Prejudice - both the original and many of the more recent retellings, variations, and sequels. I also enjoy reading erotic BDSM romance, so I was very excited to hear about this combination of the two. It occurs to me that just because you like two things, doesn't mean they will go well together - catsup and ice cream come to mind... I love catsup and ice cream - but not together. *shudder*
In this case (ETA - referring to the story) , I am less certain, but I think the use of modern fictional BDSM terms, protocols, equipment, etc. was a bit jarring in this beloved Regency classic. However, since I purchased and read this book knowing full well it combined the two, it would be unfair to rate it based on my horrified reaction. Instead, I rate this book 4 very impressed stars. " ETA on Aug. 28 - Added the parenthesis in the last paragraph, and the following: The reason I keep using the phrase, "fictional BDSM", is that I have no real world experience in the lifestyle and therefore don't really know if the BDSM aspects in this story are "modern" or existed back in the early 1800's. They sound modern to me, which didn't always combine comfortably with my views of Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth.
What happens when Pride and Prejudice meets 50 Shades of Grey? Find out in this well-written erotic romance. Anyone who loves the Austen classic (and salivated at the scene in the movie version that had Colin Firth walking out of the lake soaking wet in his ruffled-Darcy-shirt) must have wondered, "What kind of sex life will he and Elizabeth Bennet have?" Will they be equal players in the bedroom? Or will Darcy be dominant and Lizzie submissive? Will she kneel naked before him and call him "Master"? At first, I was skeptical, being an English Major who loves Pride and Prejudice, but I let this novel take me along for a ride and was glad I did.
One of my favorite things about this book is that it is told from Darcy's point of view. He tells the reader that he had a problem stuttering when he was younger and was late in talking when he was a child. He admits that Lizzie is a more polished conversationist than he is. It shows some vulnerability that I like to see. Another of my favorite parts of this book are when the two of them take walks in the woods. I won't spoil what happens, so you'll have to find out for yourself; but they certainly weren't stopping and taking the time to smell the roses. Austen purists will find that the writing style shows great respect for Pride and Prejudice, and the author has a flair for writing Regency dialog.
Classics need to be taken down from the shelf and dusted off every so often. I highly recommend this sexy interpretation.
In her new release Pride and Punishment, Nia Ferrell has created an extraordinary new book! She's taken Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice and set it on its head, re-imagining it as an erotic BDSM tale.
Still here are the familiar characters: Mr. Darcy, Miss Bennet, Lady Catherine, Miss Caroline, and the rest, all still maddeningly constrained by the Victorian mores of proper society. While dealing with a myriad of dramas and emergencies, Mr. Darcy reluctantly gives in to his growing attraction to Miss Elizabeth Bennet, despite the disapproval of his peers and family.
But underscoring the familiar story is his smoldering desire to own her, to see her submit to his darkest fantasies. Didn't we all just know that beneath Mr. Darcy's calm, cool, proper exterior beat the heart of a red-blooded Dominant?
I was privileged to receive an ARC and loved this book from start to finish. It's highly recommended!
OMFG!!!! My Favourite Jane Austin Book Has Been Turned Into Filth!!!!!. Yep You Hear Me, Right Austin With A Whole Lot Of BDSM.
I Was A Little Unsure And A Little Shocked By What I Read But The More I Think On It The More I Liked It. I Really Enjoyed This Spin On A Classic With A BDSM Twist But I Am Unsure If A Die Hard Austin Fan Would Approve Or Maybe They Would.
This Book Will Only Be A None Read Due To Personal Taste And If You Looking For A Touch Of New Oldie Then This Book Is For You. I Am So Glad I Had The Chance To Read This Book And I Would Read More Of The Same. Well Thought Out And Pulled Off Brilliantly, Bravo Nia
I must confess that I've never read the original by Jane Austen and so my prior knowledge of the story was from the BBC adaptation with Colin Firth as Mr Darcy. But having said that, I think Nia Farrell has done an excellent job with all the characters being spot on. The story is from Fitzwilliam Darcy's POV with him as a dominant and it really works. I thought it was brilliant, fabulously naughty and I loved it.
A well rewritten story of a beloved classic. The time era is preserved and the characters expanded to develop this erotic tale. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I will never be able to see MR DARCY in the same light again. What a fabulous book, my two favorite books of all time are Pride and Prejudiced and Wuthering Heights. Both equally divine reading. I have dog eared copies of both, As I am a blogger, I though it was time I stepped into the historical romance section and asked on my Facebook page for some suggestions, there was as you can imagine quite a few. As I am a huge fan of Jane Austen, and the Bronte Sisters as well as my love for erotic fiction , I was slightly intrigued when some one mentioned this book, (one because MR DARCY is well Mr Darcy). by the concept of this book, but also a bit wary. I have no problem with erotica in any form but as this is one of beloved books I wasn’t quite sure that it should be tarnished in such a manner.
My reservations became more increased as I read the first few pages, but then, WOW, the story improved and kept my interest until the end. The story is told entirely from Mr Darcy’s point of view which I thoroughly enjoyed. Nia Farrell who is a new author to me has done one hell of job of showing Mr. Darcy as a Dom with a serious hard-on (quite literally) for Miss Elizabeth Bennett who is Submissive. The joining of the original words with up to date D/S terms was quite well done. I must say.
I also loved the way that Nia made Lady Catherine de Bourgh a Domme, which if you have read the books and seen the films you can see her been exactly like that. Gentleman clubs been known hangouts where any thing goes, I do believe were and still available I would recommend this book to those who love Regency era literature, but I also think if you wish to preserve the purity of Jane Austen then avoid this book, because it will offend you. I personally loved it, and also give me a taste to read the original again and watch the TV series which I prefer over the film, Colin Firth as Mr Darcy has for me given it a whole new edge. Fifty shades of grey Meet Mr Darcy MINGLE AND BLEND WITH A SPOON AND YOU GET THIS DIAMOND OF A BOOK.
Why only 4 stars, and not the full 5, because I have a few niggles about the book one in particular, is the complete turn around from Miss Elizabeth Bennett who was until this point in the book forthright and honest with her dealings.Literally fell across his lap untied her draws so he could spank her arse. Not one word of what the hell are you doing Mr Darcy HOW DARE YOU TOUCH MY PERSON LIKE THAT, IT WAS JUST, and then it was one mad dash to the alter. If not for that It might have got its full 5 star rating.Pride and Punishment - An Erotic Retelling of Jane Austen's Beloved Classic
I was impressed by how firmly the author anchors this book in the P&P plot and how clever she is at suggesting a hidden meaning behind all of Austen’s original dialogue. I liked how decidedly little Darcy doubts himself in crucial moments - none of the anguish you sometimes see in stories narrated from the woman’s perspective, except of course that there plenty more sexual anguish for Darcy here. His assertiveness and self-confidence -and Colonel Fitzwilliam’s- were exciting to read. I would have appreciated more deviation from the original plot in order for Darcy to have to work harder at persuading Elizabeth. There wasn’t much shock there, or it was quickly overcome (as noted in other reviews), and this somewhat took away from the plausibility of the story. I could’ve also used dispensing with the 365 rooms at Pemberley. Who wants to have to assure that many rooms are kept up to scratch, just for the sake of calling the final one 366? It was a bit comical, subtracting from the tension. Either that or it was showy and bling, neither of which trait I associate with Darcy - understatement is generally the norm.
I will be honest, I have always wanted to read Pride and Prejudice and I have never gotten around to it. When the opportunity came around to read this new modern telling of such a beloved classic, I got very excited. I was not disappointed in the least, although I don't know if I can read the original now without thinking differently about those characters.
There were times when the language became a bit hard to understand, but trust me, it was worth it. It was in such a contrast to what was being said it made it more naughty, if that is even possible. There is a wealth of imagination stored inside Nia Farrell's head, and it was on display in this book so much that I hope she has a catalogue of similar books.
If you liked the classic I would suggest reading this version as well. She stayed true to the original in feel and language but gave it that naughty twist to which the title hints. It's a refreshing and spicy spin that has me asking for more.
This is one of my all time fav classics, of course I always wondered about mr darcy and holy shit does this book give us a truly delicious insight into everything kinky about Darcy.
I absolutely love this book, u love how it follows the original plot n dialogue, it just feels like a naughty version of pp by Austin. It's so damn good n true to the original but is hot af!
If you've ever wondered about sexy mr Darcy, what it would be like to be ravished by him, dominated by him, this book is for you.
And who would have thought georgiana, hugh, lady cat and Elizabeth at the end??
This is a great read for fans of historical. The dialogue was so crazy wordy and formal it made for a challenging read. Interesting dynamics between the characters and there was a lot going on in the plot.
I was provided a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
