From the mind of creator Natasha Allegri (Adventure Time with Fionna & Cake), this imaginative world takes a life of its own as Bee and PuppyCat learn how to work together with whatever the day throws at them. Enjoy all-new adventures from visiting a local carnival to Bee’s first sick day in a collection of shorts. Collects issues #5-8.
Natasha Allegri is an American writer, storyboard revisionist, and comic book artist. She is best known for her work as a storyboard revisionist for Cartoon Network's Adventure Time. She is also the creator of the comic book and animated series Bee and Puppycat.
I got this for my 10-year-old for his birthday, but honestly, it was as much for me as him. He read it by himself first and then we read it together, and I did the best Bee impression I could muster.
I love Bee & Puppycat. It's hilarious and weird and awesome. I'd recommend watching the shows on YouTube first to get acquainted with the world and personalities (there are only 4.5 eps out, it's not much of a time commitment). How can you not love an aimless twenty-something who is obsessed with food, has an alien pet/roommate and does intergalactic temp jobs?! Bee & Puppycat 4EVA!
Bee and Puppycat is an original short series on Youtube. I would recommend watching the series before diving in to the comic. This volume is very similar to the first in creating a collaboration of different authors/illustrators to invent stories in the Bee and Puppycat universe. These stories were so sweet and so funny. I enjoyed them as much as I did Vol. 1.
This graphic novel is light hearted, whimsical and very pink. I love it because of its simplicity. It's a quick read which is nice after reading really long and heavy books. Bee and Puppycat is like a warm hug on a cold winter day. It's so inviting and leaves you feeling all fuzzy inside. I had so much fun reading this graphic novel! I definitely recommend picking it up!
This was a welcome change from the first volume, which was mostly a fan-made anthology. The artwork was cleaned up and the vignettes were more coherent. I'm a massive Bee & Puppycat fan and I'm happy to gobble any media I can while I wait for more online episodes to be released. I liked this volume and I selfishly wish they were longer or had more volumes in this particular series. It was lovely and I liked all the variant covers.
Read this outside at my library for a good half hour, though it wasn’t as good as the first volume, it was still cute and made me smile a few times. Fast and cute/relatable read.
This brief collection of short comics was a sweet, if rather ephemeral, treat for fans of Bee and Puppycat. The artists collected here took the cute but surreal send up of “magical girl” anime tropes and daily grind slice of life comedy of Natasha Allegri’s charming Youtube cartoon series and previous comic and interpreted them through their own styles.
While the stories, ranging from full “episodes” to short one page comedic “scenes,” do a good job of paying homage to Allegri’s style and voice, the lack of the voice acting and music from the show detracts a little from them. The last comics innovative use of QR codes to add music was very welcome. However, for me the witty writing is as much a part of the charm as Allegri’s adorable art, and while the artist’s here all can draw pretty cutely, the writing was not always there. Riffing as they are on the show’s common themes and plotlines, they also feel a bit repetitive, yet disconnected from each other. Still, for those craving a little more candy-coated comedy with an edge of millennial melancholy, Bee and Puppycat Vol. 2 is worth a read!
I love all the illustrators who are a part of these comics ;-; their styles are so different and it just spices things up a little bit. I want more Deckard though, I’m not gonna lie. In the show he doesn’t appear much (haven’t seen some because they’re only available in the US) so I’m craving him in the comics! I’ve only got one much volume to go and that’s it for the bee and puppycat comics!
I didn't think it was possible for Bee and Puppycat to get any cuter but boy did it! This had everything I needed on a Friday night from caffeine overdoses (gpoy - I work the early shift on Fridays) arcade games, carnival shenanigans and super cutsie dress ups. My favourite from all the issues was probably "Book Quest" by Andrew Lorenzi because it perfectly summed up my relationship with my local library. I've returned every book I've ever borrowed late and now owe hundreds in library fines. I wish I were lying but I'm comforted to know I'm not the only one who's unfortunately absent-minded. Every Friday I sit inside the library, stalking the shelves with a permanent reserve on that table by the window from 4pm til close.. a girl gotta do what a girl gotta do to get her free reading fix. #solodatenight
This volume was a definite step down from Volume One, collecting a bunch of short, pointless stories. For instance, one page ended with a weird non-sequitur. Expecting an explanation, I turned the page, only to find a whole new story! The non-sequitur was supposed to be the joke at the end of a one-page story! The contributors seemed talented and I sympathized with them—writing funny comic strips are harder than you’d think—but these stories felt like first drafts. An editor should’ve sent the creators back to their digital drawing boards. Fortunately the third volume is an improvement on this one.
This is more of the same, some fun artistic styles from some new illustrators, same old Bee being a weirdo and puppycat being a cute little mystery. Magical girl temp is a fun concept and while the implications in the wider culture about millenials annoys me the work itself is a fun slice of life. I would say this is a fun experience if not quite an adventure: not a lot of the plots really resolve, we just get small snapshots of this character as she does what she does in her way. It's fun.
Quick read. Has short little segments of the main characters doing things. Think need to read them in order as didn't feel this one really let you know some of the back story the first one did some of. I did like a couple of the segments better than others. Not sure this one is for me but over all it wasn't bad. Never did find the continuation from the first one though for the one story. Oh well. Was a quick read and not a bad way to spend an hour or so.
Ugh, these comics are so freaking cute! They're perfect for people of all ages looking for comics that are relaxing and funny (can say the same for the show). I love the general slow-life vibe and how the comics show how fulfilling relationships with your neighbors can be, even if you have major differences. I also love the creative sci-fi elements and quirky banter. The artwork is beautiful and boy would I love to visit the island! xD
Super cute and wholesome adventure graphic novel. Collections of short story adventures of Bee and Puppycat who work magical temp jobs. Varying art styles depending on the author of the short story. This volume was pretty fast paced, super wholesome and cute and opens up the possibility of romance between Bee and Deckard. Also introduces a new character, Cardamon, whose character design is SO ADORABLE !! I loved all of the extra cover art at the back too, so so pretty.
Cute and silly random adventures. I have no connection to the series so this left me a bit cold - I understand this is aimed at the fans of the show. I got the first two volumes in a Humble Bundle and read them with no prior knowledge apart from seeing pictures of the title characters around. I like Puppycat's design.
Another cute collection of short stories by various artists about Bee and Puppycat's adventures. My favorite one was about the library book. I think this volume has less content than the last one did because there are more filler pages with Temp Bot's face in-between each story. It has fewer alternate cover pages at the back as well. Cute and short
I was hoping that one of the stories from volume 1 would be continued, and unfortunately it wasn't. The other stories are cute and fun, but I was really looking to see where that ongoing story was headed. Here's hoping volume 3 has what I'm looking for.
Loved the Carey Pietsch comics!! So cool to see her in this. And that bit with Rock Paper Scissors and Bee saying “your paws look a little ambiguous.” Also loved Emily Partridge’s variant cover with a big cat Puppycat. So good.
I'm not sure what it was but I found myself enjoying this second volume way more than I did the first one. I think I have a newfound appreciation for Puppycat! :)
