The safest kind of love for Camille Devereaux has always been none at all. No attachments. No friends. No family. Nothing more than a one night stand whenever the itch got too strong to scratch by herself – and it always worked for her. She was one of the best free agents in the business. If you wanted intel on someone, she could get it. If you wanted a sticky situation resolved, she could fix it. And if you wanted someone to quietly disappear? Well, for the right price she could do that too.

It all worked perfectly until one of the biggest crime lords in the city decided he wanted her on the payroll full-time. Exclusively on his payroll. At first she had refused, but then he found a weak spot that even Camille hadn’t known about, and once she knew? There was no saying ‘no’ to Patrick Callahan.

That was how she found herself on the wrong side of the gun, in a sticky situation of her own, on her knees before the head badass from a rival criminal organization – Mateo Salvai. All he wants when he first meets Camille is to get the answers his boss wants from her, using his own devious methods, but once he meets this feisty, strong woman, all his plans go out the window. He’s fascinated by her, he craves her, and once he realizes she’s his perfect match he knows he can’t let her go.

Yet, the world they run in is dangerous and there are no easy options when they both report to powerful men bent on the other’s destruction. Will Mateo break his loyalties to protect Camille, and will Camille let go of her long-held rules to let him help her?

Jump in to the criminal underworld of these two assassins and get ready for a no holds barred, sexy, intense rush to the explosive conclusion of ‘Lethal Sin’, book one of the Dangerous Games series!

3.5 stars??

This was surprisingly a really different and interesting book and it gave me A LOT of Evenfall vibes (COME ON SIN (HSIN???)) and Graceling vibes because both the MC and the love interest are badass fighting assassins. Both books have tortured, damaged, but strong assassins who can kill you in an instant. The thing I loved most about this book was that it has an extremely strong and kickass character. She's not weak and easily broken down with a handsome love interest. She continues to fight and doesn't back down.

The book starts with C (our kickass heroine) tied down by the enemy. They want answers from her, but no matter what they do or try, she does not reveal what they seek. So now, Matteo has to break her down and get answers from her using his own ways. They start falling for each other and blah blah blah.

-My only problem with this book is the insta-love that happened. Oh boy was it annoying. For someone who doesn't go soft, Matteo instantly went full on lusty for C and was ready to fuck her instantly.

*Spoiler* Their romance had no development and for me, it was really unrealistic how Matteo trusted C and was willing to rescue her brother and make her his, considering he's a badass, takes-no-shit-from-anyone type of dude.

Other than that it was steamy and action packed with lots of blood. Exactly what I needed.

3.5 stars

First time I'm reading this author and in this story I see a huge potential to make a full badass writer of dark suspenseful romance...

I liked the "enemies-to-lovers" trope and action, thus I'm giving it a 3.5 stars but also cause of the "insta lust turned love" was the very same thing that dettered me from loving it more.

Due to the fast paced tempo and action filled storytelling the "emotional" segment was lacking and i couldn't really get into the characters' bonding beyond their steamy, lusty physical interactions...

especially cause the main character uses BDSM kink to "torture"/ introgate his "victims/enemies BUT it seemed like they were both pulled into each other with attraction and chemistry, it just didn't develop further in that department, for me, to be a wholesome badass dark read with equally badass heroine and dark & dangerous anti-hero.

Jennifer Bene is a new to me author, and I thought Lethal Sin was enjoyable but to short. It had tons of potential and as long as you didn't think to much about the situation and the insta stuff I thought it was really good. Matteo and Camille come together in an unlikely way and what proceeds may not be to everyone's liking. Again I tried not to think to much about what Matteo is doing to Camille and how many woman before her he did it to. I thought Matteo and Camille were perfect for each other and there is no denying their chemistry. I would love to see more of this couple and see them handle a job together. So overall although not perfect I would recommend this one.

“I really love a girl who can kick my ass…”

That’s a line from Cowboy Bebop, but it works equally as well as a description for Camille from Lethal Sin. There is *nothing* weak about our main heroine in this sexy thriller, and in all respects, it is made abundantly clear that she can pretty much kick anyone’s ass.

Lethal Sin is probably best categorized as a ‘capture’ romance, though it teeters on the edge of that description. Early in the story it becomes quite apparent that Camille can hold her own in pretty much any situation, and only needs an opportunity to arise before she’ll easily turn the tables on her captor.

Mateo, our requisite bad boy here, has orders to get info out of our badass heroine. She’s got other ideas. Circumstances dictate that she’s not going to give the information up Mateo wants, and she’s well aware of all the tricks he’s going to use. The knowledge that she’s onto him—something Mateo soon discovers because she’s got the cojones to just outright tell him so—provides him with even more of a challenge than he’s expected. However, as he continues his little games, he uncovers a few details about our heroine which alter the course of both of their lives in equally dramatic ways.

So many capture romances revolve around the woman discovering her ‘feelings’ for her captor over the course of story, and finding she loves his ‘raw, aggressive dominant nature’ or something along those lines. What I loved about this book is that the author flipped the trope. Camille comes into this right from the get-go knowing what Mateo is all about (it’s clear he’s an Alphahole, albeit one with his own code of ethics), and pretty much everything he’s going to do to try and break her for the information he needs. She’s got all his moves pegged. And, true to form, Mateo goes about proving her right. Until *he* becomes the one to realize it’s he who is starting to fall for her. She’s every bit the match for him in terms professionally, but also in bed too. Just as he does, she knows what she wants, what gets her off, and she doesn’t shy away from it. She takes ownership of her sexuality, even in the midst of circumstances that are definitely non-con at first. It’s her sheer self-assuredness and downright ballsy-ness that brings him around, and what starts as him being at odds with her ends with the two joining together to resolve the issues confronting them.

The meat of this story really is Mateo’s slow realization of what is burgeoning between he and Camille, and—as one would expect—the incredibly hot sex they end up engaging in doesn’t hurt in that regard. What is nice in this book is that, unlike other stories using this trope, their chemistry in the bedroom solidifies the story rather than seem shoe-horned in for the sake of having it there. That, coupled with Camille just being a total badass who doesn’t submit to Mateo (in the sense that one sees in all too often in these types of stories), really helps make this book stand out.

There is a prequel to this book (Early Sins) that I did not read before I began this one, but I can assure you I will. Once you’ve met Camille, you are really going to want to know more about her.
Oh, and Mateo too, I suppose. 😊

Great novel, plenty of steamy smexy-times that aren’t just wedged in for effect, and a heroine who exemplifies bad-assery… If *any* of those sound appealing, you are going to love Lethal Sin.

Eh, it was just okay. I liked " Early Sins" much much more than this one. Smith was a much better character than Mateo, I loved Smith and Camille together ; and their relationship felt like it was on equal footing for both of them. It was not the case with Mateo and C where Mateo obviously had the upper hand.

In early sins, Camille was becoming this badass bitch and it showed, but in this book, it was as if her bravado was all just a facade and she was bland. 😪 Also, this book has the "falling in love with my captor" trope which is my biggest pet peeve. Mix that with the super insta love and this became a recipe for boring, bland and meh books.

I was skeptical as to whether or not Bene would be able to write something as spicy as the previous but she easily succeeded, writing a book that was even better! Camille is still as bad ass as ever + there’s a new male main character in this installment and wow, is he sexy! What could’ve been a very predictable storyline was anything but as Bene once again proves how incredibly talented and creative she is. I hope there will be more Camille in the future!

I loved how this continued on from the Early Sins and how Camille is always still in the thick of all the action, shes still a sassy badass female assassin and rocking it harder than metalheads in a mosh pit.

She is so much more mature and experienced now since Early Sins and it shows, her deadliness is off the charts. However, she has her weaknesses and Jennifer captured that beautifully, for all her strengths she can still be brought to her knees which made her so freaking human.

Perfect.

There was a great new character thrown into this one called Mateo who is a bit of a crazy bastard. I thought it was surprising how well he stands up to and holds his own against Camille and his own methods as a mercenary are... interesting.

This story had plenty of action, some tense as hell scenes that had me the edge of my seat and some panty-burning hot sex scenes. A wonderful conclusion to Camille's story, badass, brutal and so totally her.

This book wasn't quite what I was expecting but I really enjoyed it. It tells the tale of when two enforcers are pitted against each other and end up letting their feelings get the better of them. I'm interested to see where the next book in this series goes.

I started reading this book for many reasons including the cover met the criteria for a reading challenge but wow, it was amazing. It was dark and sexy and I was not sure how it was going to play out and keep the 2 MCs alive.

"C" is one badass assassin. She has skills that would put most tough guys to shame. When a couple thugs try to get information out of her and fail miserably, sexy Mateo is brought in to use his methods. He has no idea what he's getting with "C" and it both frustrates and arouses him. The key to being a good hit man is to have no weaknesses and "C" is starting to matter to Mateo. That can only lead to trouble. It's not the kind of trouble that I would ever want but I did enjoy reading about it. Great read.

After reading Early Sins, I don't think this book did C's character justice. I know this book came first, but the other book painted her a bit differently. I loooooooooooooooooooove C and all of her badassery, Mateo isn't my favorite. C is just a kickass lady and I want more of her.

This book is pretty action packed, and definitely steamy so you should still go check this out. I just highly recommend Early Sins (Dangerous Games #0), as that book is phenomenal.

First, I do not give spoilers.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. It was action packed and kept me turning the digital pages. I could completely relate to the Camille. I loved the fact that she met her match. I have always had a love for a little broken, but makes it work, survior.
I enjoyed the authors writing style and depth of her characters. I am chomping at the bit to read the next book in this series.

Camille Devereaux has kept herself isolated - no friends, no family, no attachments. It meant she could remain as one of the best free agents in the business so that she could provide intel on people, situations resolved and for someone to quietly disappear. Then one of the biggest crime lords called Patrick Callahan decided he wanted her on his payroll full time and he found her weak spot and then she could not say no to him. Then she found herself on the wrong side of a gun on her knees and on her own in front of the head badass from a rival criminal organisation called Mateo Salvai and all he wants are the answers that his boss wants using his own methods. But when he spends time with strong and feisty Camille all his plans go out of the window and he just wants her especially after he realises that she is his perfect match and he just cannot let her go. What will happen when they both report to their managers - who will break their loyalties and who will let go of long-held rules to help the other?

I enjoyed this story with the two people who had a job of violence finding a home in each other. It was nicely told and was clear and easy to understand and empathise with them both. There were descriptions of violence and sexual content. I thought that the solution that ensured both of their safety was clever and it was great to see that it wasn't just brawn that solved the problem. I loved her contact who called her Barbie lol

C is a trained assassin. Her mentor, Smith, was killed on a job, leaving her as a freelancer. That is, until Callahan gets ahold of her and blackmails her into working for him.

Mateo works for Callahan's biggest rival. His job is to get C to tell him where Callahan is so that he can kill him. The problem is, C isn't going to give up the information. She has every reason to want to keep that secret, and she's bound and determined to withstand anything and everything that Mateo can do to her. Mateo is quite creative and C does her absolute best until he accidentally finds the one thing that may break her.

Camille is an absolute BAMF. She is fierce, tough, and not willing to take any crap off of anyone, up to and including Mateo. She fights him tooth and nail, which actually turns into foreplay for the two of them, which is totally awesome. Mateo has met his match in Camille. He not only isn't bothered by her, by how strong she is, or by her day job, he's actually turned on by it. The scene where he has her tell him what she did on a job? Yeah, totally awesome.

This book has enough of Jennifer's trademark darkness to be absolutely great. The sex is to die for, and the story between Camille and Mateo is perfect.

WHY

Why did I wait so long to read this book? I mean, it’s no secret that I love Jennifer Bene’s books but holy shit! I feel like everyone has an author they can connect with. I feel like I connect with Jennifer every time I read her books. Maybe that’s why I have yet to read a book by her that I have not loved. But when you’re an author who writes AMAZING stories, that’s what happens. People connect with you and then they stalk you and read every single one of your books.

Jennifer Bene deserves her own damn section in a Barnes and Noble for her amazing stories. First of all, the sex scenes are so damn hot the pages are practically smoking. And second, her hero’s and heroines are badass. I love that she doesn’t write some stupid bullshit just to make a story. She writes realistically and makes her characters so damn real you feel like you are meeting them in real life.

I have high expectations when reading Jennifer’s books and she hasn’t disappointed me yet. I was practically flying through the pages to find out what would happen next. However, I did slow down for the sex scenes because we all know I’m a dirty little whore for a good sex scene ;)

Bravo Jennifer Bene on yet ANOTHER amazing read.

I first “met” Camille, the heroine of Jennifer Bene’s Lethal Sin (Dangerous Games Book 1) in the series prequel Early Sins. In that she went from damaged gal to scary, tough as nails kick-a** dangerous assassin. It was great learning her backstory (which I highly recommend, by the way) as it humanized her and really explains how she reacts to everything in this book. As good as it was, however, this book 1 is even better. Now Camille is at her peak and seeing her (woah, hot) interaction with Matteo, and how she handles life head on in general, is a total pleasure. Read the publisher’s blurb. If you find it even remotely appealing I’ve no doubt you’ll love this book. It’s hot, exciting (in more ways than one), well written and with a great cast of lead and supporting characters. What more could you want? But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises - the book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, it is easy to highly recommend. I’m definitely looking forward to the next book in this series.

18+ erotic BDSM.
Camille, only known as C in the dark underbelly of organized crime,a gun for hire, found herself caught by the Scarpa mafia. She was being held and beaten to find out the location of Callahan, the head of the Irish Mob.
No matter how she was beaten by a goon, she wouldn't tell, because Callahan forced her to work for him, and she was willing to die to protect her secret.
Enter Scarpa's number one information retriever, who brawled with C a little, just to get his juices flowing. He drove her to his house in the reinforced trunk of his luxury car. Mateo dragged C into his torture room, determined to break her and get Callahan's address.
The room turned C on as Mateo used belts and riding crops on her until he couldn't control his sex drive and C was the car.
They are falling in lust with each other, but will he get C to spill her guts before Tony comes to literally make her spill her guts?

Lethal Sin was a fantastic read for me for many reasons.
I absolutely loved Camille,”C”,she’s one kickass lady.
So sassy and feisty. But always on alert for trouble.
The one time where her guard is down she finds herself in a bad situation.
Mateo is an assassin working for a man who wants answers from C.
I adorned Mateo. He’s a big tough bad boy.
When he’s sent to question C he’s intrigued by her.
The lust for her is now driving his course of actions.
The chemistry between them is off the charts.
Whether it’s their conversations or their sexual encounters it’s intense.
When the big bad assassin,Mateo, starts to fall hard and fast for Camille and his protective side of him comes out for only her and yet he still reminds the tough guy with everyone else was hot!
Their story is filled with action and suspense and a whole lot of sexy hotness!
Great writing, great story and awesome characters!

I have some mixed feelings about this story and feel there were good and bad parts. Camille is an assassin who works for a bad man (of course). Mateo is hired by another bad man to torture her into telling him where her boss is so that he can be killed. Mateo's version of torture is dark and twisted when directed at a woman. There are hints that he's tortured other women with rough sexual actions. He's attracted to Camille and has mixed feelings about how to treat her. Somehow, an attraction grows between them. I'm not sure I'm buying that possibility.

The attraction leads to a difficult choice for Mateo since he has a job to do. She has her own reasons for not giving in and it takes a while for her to share them. Once she does, I'm surprised they don't figure out the potential danger in their plans. This story was good, but not great and I can't put my finger on exactly why except that the concept of feelings developing between them seems unlikely.

There is a reason that this author has become one of my one-click authors. It is because she always is pushing the envelope and going against the norm. It is almost as if she is trying to push herself as a writer. She manages to put her own twist and spin on "normal". In this case, she took enemies to lovers and pitted two assassins against each other. Who would break first? That was the beauty of the story since both are trained to withstand torture.

In the end, I couldn't really tell you who won and who lost because it really is a moot point and a happily ever after was achieved. I loved watching Camille and Mateo "battle" especially as Camille gave as good as she took. I did miss the edge that I have come to know from this author but not everything can be dark and depraved the way that she makes me like.

This book was a guilty pleasure, beginning to end. Okay, that’s a lie – I didn’t feel any guilt about enjoying it whatsoever, lol. There are a lot of mafia romance books out there right now--many very good ones--but I found this one unique since it’s a scary bad guy hero who has to get info out of an equally scary bad girl heroine.

She’s in the same business he’s in, so even under torture/interrogation she’s tough as nails. Since he’s a Dom sadist, he enjoys his work, but then he finds SHE enjoys being on the receiving end of his more erotic interrogation techniques. When they eventually discover one another’s softer, more gooey side, it doesn’t dilute their badassery a bit, the usual tripping point for this type of story. And then…well, I’ll let you read where it goes from there.

A sexy hot, enjoyable romance with a surprisingly sincere love story. Highly recommend.

Assassin Camille Devereaux is kidnapped by a rival mob who want her boss Patrick Callahan's address. But no matter what the handsome Mateo does to Camille, she refuses to cooperate because Patrick will kill her brother Luke if she does. Mercenary for hire Mateo Salvai is in over his head with the beautiful and feisty Camille and can't bear to hurt her. Mateo feels possessive of Camille and after they get to know each other, Mateo promises Camille "I'm going to fix this." Mateo's boss Benito Scarpa is sick of waiting and tells him "If I don't get Callahan's address in the next 12 hours, you better show up with a corpse." Will Mateo be able to deliver so that he can get his HEA with Camille?

Can a dangerous lifestyle bring these two together?
This is my 12th book by Jennifer Bene, so clearly one of my favorite authors! The book starts in an intense scene with Camille captured to reveal the location of her boss, which will never happen with whatever torture they throw at her. When she doesn’t offer up the info to the 1st guy, Mateo brings her to his place with his own style of games. But what happens is more than either Camille or Mateo could have imagined. When the next guy in the chain comes to Mateo’s place to torture Camille, Mateo can’t let that happen. Will Mateo and Camille get out from under this nightmare? You have to read to find out and won’t want to stop reading to find out.

This is an action packed, bloody, steamy story, where two badass assassins meet and are both determined to have the upper hand.

Camille or C as she is known makes an uncharacteristic mistake and finds herself prisoner of Mateo. He wants information and isnt afraid to do exactly what it takes to get it. C is very tough, but whilst he's breaking her, she's sneaking under his normally unpenetratible skin. Can they work together or are their loyalties just too far apart?

These two are both lethal but brimming with chemistry despite their violent introduction. The book isn't that long, but it's well written, full, fast and if you dont mind a bit of insta and mafia style violence, then I'm sure this will be a good read for you too!

First, let me thank Jennifer Bene for not ending this book with one of her killer cliffhangers. There is no cliffhanger folks! This was a great story with a strong female character. Camille is smart, strong, and can take out anyone she desires. Enter Mateo. He is equally as smart and strong, and also can take out anyone. But what happens when these two cross paths? Hot, hot, and more hot. These two are explosive, both in and out of the bedroom. Jennifer leaves nothing to the imagination in the detailed, panty soaking scenes. The situation these two characters find themselves in will have you reading through the night to find out who gets their butt kicked next and in what positions Camille and Mateo can get themselves into. It's not your typical love story.

Smokin' hot and excitingly deadly characters took me for a thrilling adventure!
Wonderful characters exchange witty and sniping repartee and then throw in lots of steaming hot action in the bedroom and the lounge and the bathroom.....well, you get the idea!
The dark and dangerous tone of the characters and their professional activities is delicious.
I'm looking forward to the next book in the series...and I plan to devour lots more of Jennifer Bene's novels!
Ms Bene has a writing style that drew me in and kept me immersed in the fast paced action and emotions of the main characters. Very polished and enjoyable writing style!

Get ready for one thrilling, dark ride! Camille and Mateo are two peas in a pod - both trained killers working for different people. They're more than a match for each other. I love the way the scenes are set up - the suspense sucks you right into the story as Mateo is holding Camille captive, and it's a huge battle of wills to see who will give in first. This is a violent, pulsing story, and when they find themselves lusting for each other, the game takes sexy turn. Their version of normal conversations are so different than what ours might be like. So, how was your day, kill anyone today? I loved it, and if you love a good twisted, rough and violent book, this is a fantastic one to read!
