Love. Depravity. Adultery. In a world of secrets and lies, these are the three key ingredients to one hell of a mess that Olivia can't seem to rectify. She knows what she craves, what she needs… but it's too far from her grasp and her love for her husband holds her back. She has been devoted to her sick, desperate husband for what feels like her entire life. She can't abandon him. Not when he needs her more than ever. Especially not for someone so forbidden. Can she?
18+ This is a STANDALONE novel that is not a part of any of my published series to date.
A. E. Murphy is the Queen of sarcasm and satire, she likes long walks in the park, as much as ice cubes like to chill in a roasting oven. She’s effortlessly independent and so good at adulting it’s unfair on the rest of the world. She only napped twice today and has only avoided the dishes for three days before making the child slaves do them this morning. Winning! Her favourite hobby is writing, her worst hobby is reading through that writing. Also she has two cats that carry toys to the top of the stairs and drop them down so they can chase them. They do this repeatedly in the middle of the night. Who cares if she has work the next morning? Not the cats, that’s for sure. And if it’s not the cats doing the waking, it’s the toddler crawling into bed with her and pulling individual hairs from her scalp with pudgy little fingers for comfort. This is likely why she’s in a constant state of grump unless there’s chocolate and coffee. P.S. Please leave feedback, if not on the book then on this ridiculous bio she wrote herself. It’s the least you can do seeing as she’ll forever talk in the third person now. Alex loves her readers. Alex says thank you. Alex smiles.
I'll need to come back and review this because I'm still not sure how I should rate it either. It didn't really feel like romance to me. It felt more like erotica with some suspense thrown in and quite a few unanswered questions.
Definitely not for the safety gang (I'll leave spoilers later) but I read it anyway only because I didn't read it as romance. I was never connected to the characters and it didn't have any triggers for me so I basically just was this to pass the time.
I love the authors Broken series so I wanted to give this a shot but it wasn't very memorable.
Wow. Is it hot in here or is it just me? I mean, I'm only thirty nine, hot flashes shouldn't be a thing yet, right?
A. E. Murphy did it again. A completely new type of book for this amazing author, which shows that she is crazy multifaceted. You might actually need some 'alone time' while reading this book, because it is just. that. hot.
I now have a new book boyfriend in Elijah.
Whew... now, if you'll excuse me, I need to go take a cold shower.
This book had me hooked from the first page! I am a huge A.E. Murphy fan and have been eagerly awaiting her latest release and I am so pleased to say that once again she has surpassed all my expectations! Masked Definitions is just perfect. Its sexy and addictive and left me even more excited to see what's next from this amazing author!
I made it to 69% of this book. I have been reading books from this author and she never disappoints! This story...well it just wasn't believable. I didn't buy into any of it and the characters were lifeless in my opinion. Don't let this review deter you from reading her books! She has soooo many good stories that kept me until 4am on multiple occasions!
I am a huge A E Murphy fan and I am so pleased to say that the latest release from this author doesn't disappoint.
One of A E Murphy's talents as an author is making the characters and the storyline believable and in Masked Definitions, Olivia, Elijah and Max all seem like people we might meet. The characters are relatable and the narration is written in such a natural way.
Another trait of A E Murphy's is the twist in the storyline after the first part of the story. Again, this book doesn't disappoint and I was excited and pleased to see it didn't go in the direction I expected.
In conclusion, this book is another 'so bad it's right' but that is what makes A E Murphy's books a pleasure to read. I don't want to read about another university student and a CEO. I want real life situations, a believable plot and characters I can relate to. Which A E Murphy masters perfectly in Masked Definitions.
When is the next book out?!
For those of you who enjoy this authors work she is currently trying her hand at the fantasy genre and is sharing parts of her work on Wattpad. It's called Arise. Check it out.
This story between Olivia (AKA Enna & The Wife), Max (AKA Possessive & Negativity is enough, the Husband & the Brother) and Elijah (AKA The Duke, the half-Brother & Brother-in-Law) was OMG! My heart had more ups and downs than a rollercoaster reading this book. I don't think Olivia could have got herself in a more f**ked up situation if she tried, and she didn't do it intentionally either. I guess regardless of your position in life if your job is deemed dangerous to your life, your image or your marriage you should probably think of another career path lol Karma just had it's way with Olivia, and I loved it! She did too in all fairness.
Such a superb read! Not many books these days get me enthralled by the first few pages but boy did this book grab me by the proverbial and didn't let go until I had finished it!
Brilliant storyline, the twists and turns as you got further into the book were a case of "I didn't see that coming".
Don't let this book pass you by - you need to put this on your list for this years essential reading!
This book is filled with triggers and drama. I am not sure but I believe this is one of the author’s early works... and it shows. While this is supposed to be a sexy read (strippers, forbidden romance), the book failed to hone in on the emotional connection between the two main characters. The physical desire is there for sure but the book failed to answer why these two fell for one another.
There were too many things that detracted from the story. There’s too many detailed conversations with Max about what they’re going to eat for dinner. Who cares? Also, the interactions with the best friend, the sister, the mother all feel unnecessary because it didn’t add to the story and felt more like page fillers. These pages could have gone towards exploring Olivia’s feelings towards her marriage.
Also, the author failed to hone in on one true conflict in the story. A book is only as good as its conflict. Highlighting Olivia’s fear of exchanging one bad relationship for another would help. Narrowing the focus of the book towards one major conflict and polishing the plot would have done wonders.
Overall, there are some great scenes but it missed the mark for me.

The book started out relatively strong and since I can handle the cheating trope better than a lot of readers I came in with an open mind. However I couldn’t relate to Olivia or her Enna alter ego. And I would have liked to have gotten Elijah’s POV because I never felt like I really understood him or his motivations. He started out one way, but ended up behaving a lot like Max at times. Max had his own issues and honestly I felt like I at least understood why he behaved like he did, he was mentally Ill! But why did a Duke behave similarly? Another thing I had an issue with was Elijah‘s wife, she had a little Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde situation going on. She was very likable and a decent friend to Olivia in the beginning, and Olivia sort of shit all over that. I just never really liked any of the characters I guess, some of the scenes were pretty hot but I just felt that the book had a lot of untapped potential. I have read some great books by AE Murphy, and I feel confident in saying that her writing got better and better after this book.
I loved this book! I am such a fan of A.E. Murphys work now I am going to read ALL of her books. This book was great. Usually I don't fully connect with 'british' or 'irish' or dialogue from other countries since I dont understand it (like a wallet with a pill case was mentioned and I have never heard of that before here in the US) but this book was so great I loved it all! The chemistry between Olivia & the Duke was off the charts from the get go. I knew from chapter one I was going to be sucked in. And I was. I couldnt stop reading it. I started it this morning and finished today and now I want to read her Lockheart series since Tobias Lockheart was mentioned. I have a feeling Miss Murphy is going to blow my mind with her books.
I liked the "taboo" aspect of it. Her husband is totally in the dark when it comes to her occupation. I liked the thought of the story line, but the execution fell a little flat for me. The epilogue...I felt was pointless. I didn't understand what it meant..
That was a very surprising book from one of my favorite authors, but I really enjoyed it. I'm not a fan of books with many sex scenes but, writing and unique style from Murphy can just not let me put the book down.
