There have been many an outrageous moment in this manga, but I would confidently say that Shirakawa’s “game” with Yu was more despicable than anything Kurosaki did to her, largely because she seemed to subconsciously enjoy Kurosaki’s actions and there was no hidden agenda when it came to him like there was for Shirakawa in this vol.
The most infuriating part of this volume was how Yu surprisingly had no fight in her and that was a shocking departure from her previous attitude, especially considering that was really her only likable personality trait. It seemed that her constant idolisation of Shirakawa had come to a head and harmed her as I had suggested in vol 3’s review that it would, hindering her from being able to see that he was playing her all along and from bringing him to justice as he should’ve been. Even after learning the truth from his own mouth she still clung to her idolisation of him, saying that she couldn’t hate her time with him when that was surely the most illogical stance to take on the matter.
The new setting greatly helped to further character dynamics and stimulate some interesting interactions. Most beneficial of all was the sliver of an insight we were granted into Kurosaki’s past, and although most of the details were still shrouded in mystery by the end of the vol, there was no doubt that the intrigue it created was the most stirring feeling incited by this vol.
You know what, I'm not gonna lie. This series is starting to be a bit uncomfortable for me. Like what I've said before, I really don't like it everytime Kurosaki imposes himself on Yuu. And this wasn't as shocking as it was since I kinda felt like it, but in this volume, we finally see Shirakawa's real intetions towards Yuu and ngl it doesn't look good either. It's kinda hard to read a love triangle and have absolutely no one to root for. I might read the next volume to see where the story is heading out but if it's still as bad as this one, I might drop it.
On a positive note, Kaji is really funny and continues to make this series light. If Makino-sensei did something right here, it's the comedic timing of Kaji. :)
This one is my least favourite so far. I just feel like the story didn’t actually progress in anyway. And I really hate when there is a another love and trust but it actually doesn’t really do anything for the main love interest plot which is what I found this volume was.
they're so gay coded. both Kurosaki and Shirakawa keep playing with this girl until they gain something from her, meaning for one of them a defeat. just why? not romantic at all, just silly games between pretty boys rivalry. maybe I finish this series. maybe not.
I'm kinda concerned about the author's point of view in romance matter.
Review to come. This volume was more like 3.5 stars. I hate the fact that it feels like Yu is being pulled around in a game. I suspected that Kurosaki-san's past would come up as part of that article. The summer house based story turned out almost exactly how I would have guessed, lol. Liked it, but not as much as the previous volumes.
Normally, I dont review comic books in goodreads, despite the fact that I read like thousands of it. But this particular series make me feel the urge to write down what I think about this series, and this volume especially.
This is crap.
I hate Akabane Yuu. She's the real Marry Sue in manga world. Seriously, this girl for real?? She has no spine nor sense whatsoever. She admit that she like Shirakawa, even accept him to be her boyfriend. But every damn time Kurosaki make a move on her, or tease her, even make out to her, she just accept it willingly. Hello?? You have a boyfriend, you cant just go on kissing with other boy, or even worse, let that said boy give you a hickey, the boy that repeatedly you said you hate. You hate him, but do nothing whenever he kiss you, making out with you, or even treat you like his slave. Ffs, do something, girl!! Be angry, puch him in the face, or at least say something.
As much as I hate Yuu, the feeling also goes to Shirakawa. Oke, he supposed to be the white prince. The good boy, the perfect yet flawless male character. But oh boy, I find him sooo annoying, or maybe suspicious. I knew from the very beginning that this boy is up to something. Everyone in this stupid book said that he is sooo kind, sooo gentle, sooo clever, sooo perfect that the name "White Prince" was sooo fit with his character.
Pfftt..
I tell you what, even in the manga world, NO ONE can be that perfect. He is sooo fishy that everytime this dimwit appears in the page with his suspicious smile, I cringe. And yet my feeling is soo true about him. He doesnt really like Yuu, he just want to make it such a game to watch how Kurosaki react if he and Yuu were dating. What a scum.
And last, Kurosaki. Perhaps he was the only character in this book that I like, or at least, I less hate (because he was a crook too). He has a reputation as a delinquent, that's why everyone call him "Black Devil", so that is not a surprise if he behave like one. He has a bad attitude, and no one expect him to do otherwise, so its clearly a swooning act when sometimes he does something that shows he had a good heart.
Afterall, I dont know if I will read the next volume or not. Maybe if there is nothing more interesting in the book store shelf, I will.
I devoured all 19 volumes of Defying Kurosaki-kun over the last week. This is a beautiful story of Yu and Haruto's relationship as it grows from nothing to sweet romance. Haruto's always been a loner except for Takumi who's been his only friend until Yu comes into his life. The story is about the relationship between Yu and Haruto but Takumi is such a intricate part of the story.
I really loved Yu as a character she's this bright ball of sunshine who's reinvented herself now that she's in high school and growing so much into this character you just cheer on. Haruto is cold and demanding in the beginning but we get to see him slowly start to grow as the series progresses. He builds friendships, reconnects to his family and he learns so show Yu how much she means to him.
I truly enjoyed the series even if I had a few moments where I wanted to reach through the book and stab Haruto for being stupid. it's a whirlwind sweet love story that I'm so sad to see ending. I wish that this series wouldn't have ended because I wanted more of Yu and Haruto's story. I wanted Takumi to find his happy ever after too. I do hope maybe one day we will get more. This is one of my top favorite series. Highly recommend if you are a fan of the grumpy/sunshine trope it fits really well. The artwork is beautifully done. I loved it so much the whole story.
She needs to realize that she’s being played by them, no matter if she like them or not. It’s getting frustrating, she deserves better. The FL is so weak minded.. She let black prince touch, kiss her and can’t even get mad at white prince when he played her? Girl go home & set up your mind. This manga is making me stressed!!!
Anyway, Kaji is so my best boi. Let him be the FL’s best friend please cause we all know she’s actually alone.
Two devils? TWO?! You can see that the white prince/white devil thing is coming a mile away but every time I see a hint of it I'm like, "GIRL RUN!" I'm having a lot of fun with this series. My poor girl, making me want to scream that the three of them should just be together so all this fighting can stop haha
Yu is so confused right now. The boys seem to be messing around with her quite a bit. The tension is killing me. I'm enjoying this manga quite a bit. However find that it's moving along quite slowly.
Shirakawa is really getting on my nerves your telling me you get together with a girl as a game to basically torment your socially incapable friend? All because you like watching his new reactions?! That's sick
