It was a pretty stone that brought Charles Caswell and Hannah Waterton together. That same topaz jewel may have also brought about Hannah's death. Now, more than five years after her murder, two unusual young men come looking for the passionate abolitionist in the small Quaker community where Charles has remained to raise their daughter Serenity. One of the men, Edward Benson, seems to know more about Hannah than Serenity does-including where the stone in her mother's beautiful topaz ring came from.
Serenity had promised her mother that she would treasure and wear the jewel. But upon Hannah's death, the valuable ring was missing and the murderer's motives and identity were never discovered.
Soon Serenity's world is brutally turned upside down, and she is forced into marrying a man she hardly knows. It seems the still missing ring carries a dark legacy that will put her life in mortal peril. Now it feels impossible for the young woman to discern between true friends and those using her for their own greedy purpose. Will her never-realized inheritance destroy her? Or will blossoming love and growing faith deliver her from the evil that has taken away those closest to her?
Sally and I listened to this book on CD's while traveling from the Salt Lake Valley to St. George and part way back. It was the third book in a series of four. Sally read the first book, The Bracelet, and we listened to books two and four on our trip to Gilbert, AZ and back. A very interesting series that all were generated from the first book. All were stories unto themselves, but were tied in by the stones that were in the bracelet. Boob two was the Emerald, Book three wass the Topaz and book four The Ruby. I would expect one more book to finish the story. Very enjoyable, all of them with suspense, drama, heartache, love and conversion.
Out of all of the Bracelet series this one was my favorite. I enjoyed that Serenity was a little more modern but still gets her head turned by wealth. The added mystery also helped keep the book going for me. I am glad that Hansen decided to tie in "The Emerald" with this book. That was my one complaint with this series: you get attached to characters and then in the next book there are completely new people.
Still enjoying these. This is set 20 years after THE EMERALD. Keep in mind, they are lds fiction. While I couldnt have guessed the whole book by any means, he story is somewhat predictable in places. Yes, she is forced to marry and doesn't realize until almost too late who she truly loves ...but I was surprised by some of the 'problems' they had to face, went from trusting to not, and back to trusting a few times with several characters...
This was a good book in the series "The Bracelet". The Topaz Stone that brought Hannah's parents together created a lot of problems also. It is believed her mother was killed because of it. Hannah promised her mother she would treasure & wear the jewel which was in a ring. But when her mother was killed the ring was missing and many events occured as many people tore things up looking for it. Hannah can not tell true friends from enemies. Lots of excitement!
I have read the other two books in this series (The Bracelet and The Emerald?) but it has been awhile. I think I liked them more but I can't really remember. This book was okay but I found it to be kind of cheesy LDS fiction and a lot of unecessary information. I also was frustrated with the characters inability to figure out the mystery of the topaz ring.
I wasn't sure I was going to like this 3rd book because I didn't really care for the character who ended up with the topaz, so I was happy when I found out it was about her daughter. This one wasn't as adventurous as the others, but still a good story. If she writes more books in The Bracelet series, I will definitely read them.
This one's a real page turner! When both her parents are killed, Serenity's life is a whirlwind. Not only is her home searched repeatedly, but she becomes a prize as well--her wealth, and especially her mother's topaz ring. I kept wondering when she'd finally recognize she was in love with Edward, and that she was converted to the gospel.
This was a real page turner. It was very exciting and the suspense hardly let down. I'm glad Serenity finally realized who she loved, and that the "bad guys" were all eliminated.
This is the third book in "The Bracelet" series. It stands alone okay, but I would suggest reading them in order so you can get the whole story.
There may be a wire loose in my brain. I slogged through the "emerald", but was desperate to read anything and this was still in the library bag. I didn't even bother to finish it. I don't think I can ever read Jennie Hansen again.
This is the 3rd book of the serious. This one seamed to have more suspense the the first two. I stayed up the last 2 night till 2am reading it. By Saturday I was so tired I took a 2 hours nap. There seams to be a 2 theam here.
Quick, easy read. Didn't realize it was part of a series but it stood on its own well. Realized halfway through I had read it but couldn't quite remember how it ended. I enjoyed re-finding out! It was a fun mystery romance.
This book surprised me a little...I couldn't figure out the mystery on my own. I really enjoyed it though. It reminded of the friendship that should be behind our relationships with our families...especially are marriages.
This book is part of a series but stood well on it's on. I have not read any others in the series but listened to this one on audio CD on a recent trip. It was engaging and kept my interest but it was a bit too cliche for me. I knew exactly what was going to happen because it was very obvious.
So far, this is my favorite one of the series. I had to keep coming back to it to see what was going to happen. A bit predictable, which is funny coming from me because I usually don't figure things out.
This is a book in a series, I didn't know this when I started it. I think it holds it's own and you don't need to read the others if you don't wnat to.
I actually listened to this one on book tape while driving. A mystery romance that isn't nail biting but interesting enough. Don't know that I'll read any of her other books though.
Thisw as a good book. I enjoy the bracelet series and was pleasantly surprised that it didn't get dull. Slightly predictable (as most of these books are) but a good read!
The idea of this set (The Bracelet, The Emerald, The Topaz, etc.) is a fun way to connect a set of books. I've definitely enjoyed the first three that I've read, and I plan to read the rest.
This is my favorite in the series so far. I like the sweet love story and the mystery. I did figure some things out, but others were a complete surprise!
