Out of order as Shohn has to be read in between these two.

05 - CASEY
We met Casey and Emma in book one as teenagers. He and Emma finally get their story 8 years later.
Casey is another major player and blames it on never finding the right one. He pursues Emma purely for sexual reasons as the one who got away, until he decides he feels more for her.
Emma really had been though the roughest of times with her mother.
Though I backed her 100% on her stance about her sexuality and the double standards extreme, I’m more inclined to think she was using sex to hide from the nastiness of her home situation and to get some emotional closeness which was obviously lacking.
Emma’s dad needs to hang his head in shame for not caring for his daughter. He used love as a weak excuse to ignore the problem.
Reading the reviews for the next couple of books, they are next generation but similarly themed with characters that are still children in this book.

07 - GARRETT
Started reading this in the box set BUCKHORN LEGACY but realised Shohn’s story needed to be read first.
Not sure what is going on as this box set says it is books 5&6 Casey and Garrett but between Casey, book 5 and this story about Garrett, Shohn has apparently gotten engaged.
Back I go to read Shohn.
Okay, back again.
Garrett is a firefighter and the son of Morgan and Misty. He is another player but not as bad as some of the previous men.
I liked Zoey a lot. She was her own woman and she had guts dealing with the past, which was no fault of her own and compassion for Cody.
I found it funny Garrett trying to interfere between Amber and Noel, only because it was his sister. Double standards abound.
This is the seventh book in a row I have read straight through and I am done now.
Way too much rinse and repeat and the unreality of this series has gotten boring.
Never any other women drama, unplanned pregnancies, except for the poor women, the men are all massive players if not downright manwhores and the women who they want as wives are too good for them.
No matter how much I enjoyed reading these, I have overdosed.

Reread this authors Winston Brothers and Visitation series. Grabbed these through my library for some light reading.
How stories have changed in 20 years. I quite like the old-fashioned manners of the men but they are a bit dominating and overbearing, in a nice way.
I find it interesting that these men are all women magnets but no other women show up or make a fuss.
Found it interesting that none of these brothers have ever gotten a woman pregnant by accident either but poor Misty book 2 and Georgia book 3, had both been pregnant due to broken condoms.
Seems these men are super lucky.
I have read the first seven books in one hit so will not be reading the others for a while as they seem similarly themed.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

Buckhorn Legacy

This is the fifth book in the Buckhorn Brothers series. It’s also the only one I’ve read by itself so far. So far the others were all combined editions.

This story follows Casey Hudson, the son of Sawyer from the first book in the series. It follows his romance with Emma Clark. They start off the story in line with the other books for the first chapter. After that they skip forward right years until Emma and Casey are both about twenty six.

When she was seventeen Emma Clark ran away from Buckhorn. She didn’t even say goodbye to Casey. However she returns after her father has a stroke because despite things that have happened in her past she does love her father. She knew she’d have to see Casey but they end up meeting up much sooner than she expected.

Casey is now working at his step grandfather’s computer company. He’s quickly rising through the ranks as he’s the heir apparent for the whole thing. However, he isn’t happy with it. He has a nice office and plenty of money. But he misses his community. He’s not expecting to ever see Emma Clark again. Then he meets her on the side of the road after her car broke down getting into town.

As a teenager Emma had a certain reputation. Why she did the things she did is much more complicated than anyone in the town is willing to see. However, she did also enjoy herself. I did like how the book brings up the double standard there. Men, even men in Casey’s family, basically do the same things as Emma and no one cares at all. It’s supposed to be no big deal, as she points out, only as long as it’s a guy. I realize that’s not exactly new to point out now, but this book was originally published in 2002.

Along with the romance between Casey and Emma there’s also a suspense element added. The day that Emma disappeared the local diner was destroyed by a fire. Somehow Emma seems to be related but it takes the whole book for that to be revealed. It’s part of why she left Buckhorn when she did.

I also want to quickly talk about Damon and BB. Damon is Emma’s best friend and basically her big brother after she was taken in by his family off the streets. He’s sarcastic and he definitely doesn’t love Buckhorn at the start. I think he was great at adding some humor into the story. Then there’s BB. He’s a huge German Shepherd that Emma rescued after he was abandoned in a park. He’s such a loyal friend to her. I loved when he got to relax and just play with the kids though. He’s a good protector but he was also such a sweet dog when he didn’t need to keep Emma safe.

Alright so now I know the rest of the stories in this series follow all the different children of the original four brothers. I’m curious to see what they’re all like all grown up.

The writing overall was very solid, it was just the extremely unrealistic situation. After 8 years, the two characters just talked as if nothing had happened. Romance novels should bring in some spice into the story. This novel just added in the fact that the girl just wore a bunch of make up growing up.

Loved reading how true love can survive time and distance. So glad Emma had a happy ending. Looking forward to read more about the Buckhorn community.
