About the author

J.H. Fletcher is the prize-winning author of fifteen novels, published to both critical and popular acclaim in Australia, Germany and the UK, as well as numerous short stories and plays for radio and television.

He was educated in England and France and travelled and worked in Europe, Asia and Africa before emigrating to Australia in 1991. Home is now a house within sight of the Western Tier Mountains in northern Tasmania.

J.H. Fletcher's ability to write about the thoughts and feelings of his female characters is truly amazing. A Woman of Courage takes us into the lives of not only the rags-to-riches protagonist, Hilary, but also delves into the lives of her two daughters. Beautifully crafted and I really enjoyed it.

Love this author. Using history and its events to kick off the basis and beginning for the story. Well written with a great flow. Enough going on with all of the characters to keep things interesting but not ridiculous. All very believable situations. Business escapades kept relatively simple though and sometimes one could think "really?" But perhaps money and who you know really can get you whatever you want. Highly recommended - easy reading. Or listening as I did. The narrator did a wonderful job as always.

This is the story of Hilary Brand, a young lady who was in a foster home and ran away to start a life of her own. With hard work and determination she rose from poverty to become the CEO of her own international company in a time when it was difficult for females to make it in a man's world.

Hilary faced many problems along the way with her business and her love interests, but ended up with two daughters whom had issues of their own.

When Hilary decides to change her life and steps down from her company, it changes everything for her daughters lives as well.

This is a very enjoyable book which is well worth the read!

This book grabs you right from the beginning.

The story of a strong woman overcoming hardship and building a life for herself, balancing work and children, while quoting poetry, has been impossible to put down.

J H Fletcher is a master storyteller of a good story interweaving fact and fiction.

There are sex scenes that don't stop at the bedroom door, but thank goodness it was more about the characters feelings than the detail of the act. Very well handled, for a chic who reads sweet romance.

A great story, well told.

FANTASTIC….
This is his second book I’ve read. The first being “The Valley of the Gums”, also a WONDERFUL read….

An Australian story of a woman who is deciding to leave her multi million dollar business. As she is making this decision we find out her story and what the future will hold for her family. This was an easy read and a lot of the story flew by - I wished for it to be more detailed so I could of been swept up more in the drama, both personal and business.

Second attempt at a book that I purchased in 2017.
For some reason I could never get past a certain point. Finally broke through the background of the highly respected company CEO and her two very different daughters to understand the hold this formidable woman over those who stand before her. Enjoyed the cross cultural movement of the novel and finally finished it.
