He is joined in the chase by an old university friend from Scotland Yard, and a young American genius who has been singled out by the killer as his next victim.

I throughly enjoyed this WWII story and am looking forward to reading more from this author. 'Finding a killer in the middle of a blitz is murder.' (from the back cover) That is just the beginning of the spellbinding action in this book. The Germans are dropping bombs and have spies living practically next door - the bombs you can hear and feel, the spies you thought those were your friends. Codes and cyphers, M16 and Scotland Yard all working together to save the lives of English soldiers and perhaps even the Britsh Empire. This book will keep you on the edge of your seat!

A WWII Suspense Novel… so the book cover claims; add to that a mention in the book description of Britain's top secret Code and Cypher School and I'm intrigued; then factor in a top notch author and I knew this was going to be a good book… It is an excellent book and it ended way too soon. I was left with wanting a whole lot more of Grey's and Grace's action packed lives full of adventures and misadventures. There could even be a spin-off book telling Aubrey's and Bunny's story because I'm sure they've got one...

I had not read this author before, but the subject of the book intrigued me. I enjoy ready a good historical book, and wasn't disappointed in this one. A lot of research had to be put in to understand the Era this book was set in.
I enjoyed the way the two main characters met, and interacted with each other. Neither were looking for love, both had to overcome the past to enjoy the future. Will be reading more from this author.

YOU WILL READ, READ, AND READ SOME MORE STRAIGHT THROUGH!

Riveting and hard to put down, VB Tenery is an author of irresistible talent.

The only thing not to like is it that are not near enough books to read. I've read them and reread them and can't wait for more.

You will not regret this purchase. This author will forever be in my heart.

Enjoyed

It is possible to write a good story without foul language, erotic sex and brutality. As a fan of WW2 fiction, I found this book to be well written and difficult to put down.

Set in England, Vichy France, and Cairo during WWII, Deathwatch is a strangely muted read with a singular lack of tension. Despite all the hazards of war. Seems to me a story about a world at war should make the reader a bit tense, a bit worried maybe. But nope.

Well worth a read!

It was quite interesting to read a WWII historical fiction from a British point of view. Well written likable characters made this novel especially enjoyable.

Started out as a pretty interesting mystery, but got over run with the romance and then the war story. Then the mystery came back and had a quick conclusion.

Great book

I like books with World War II themes. So far, of V.B. Tenery's books, this one is my favorite of hers. Well written and with a twist.

I am a big fan of WWII books especially when they have espionage in them. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the story takes readers to different areas such as London, France and North Africa. I felt like I was able to travel with the characters as their adventure began with a well developed story. I love when an author goes into details about a historical time and makes the story come to life. I got me a cup of hot chocolate with peppermint creamer and sat back ready to visit these faraway places.

The first thing I found out was there were code breakers for Britain. They were extremely intelligent and highly trained. They knew they had dangerous information and took precautions to keep the secrets safe. I loved how the author really gave a vivid description of these hard working behind the scenes workers.

Sometimes you can do everything possible to keep yourself safe from the enemy but unfortunately Jacky Vidal was not lucky enough to fight off her attackers. What did she know that someone was willing to kill for? Her friend Grace Sullivan discovers Jacky and knows her own life is now in danger. Grey M16 agent Commander among other high ranking officials have come to investigate the death. They have even called in Scotland Yard so this must be a serious threat to the world. When Grace and Grey meet I loved their interactions. Grace is a fiesty woman who does not care to be treated like an uneducated woman. Grey better look out. I think he is going to have his hands full with her.

The information that is so secretive could be catastrophic if it got into the hands of Hither. As devious as he is that could could damage England by not having information on troop and ship movements. That could be devastating for them and lives could be lost. What if Hitler decides to change the code and send out false information? Could he start a war that was based on lies? The race is in to find the killer and to stop any information being leaked to the enemy.

As a side note I have to mention the breakfast that Grey and Grace had. The mere mention of spam sent me back to my childhood. I can remember having fried spam sandwiches for lunch. I grew tired of them but after reading the book, I went to the store and bought a can of spam. Thank you for that memory which I had almost forgotten about.

As we get deeper into the story it becomes apparent that Grace's life is in dire danger. Can Grey keep her safe? Will they be able to find the killer before it is to late? Did Jacky divulge any secrets before her death? The story is well written with a look into war and the dangers it involves. I was a bit surprised at the killer but that just makes the story more intriguing. The story is action packed and the characters are well developed and add intrigue to the story. The question is who can Grey trust while trying to keep Grace alive? Get ready for an adventure that will take you to different places, danger lurks at every corner and trust and faith must be relied on to survive.

I received this book as a gift. I have read every book by the author, and while this one is completely different from the others it is amazing. It is well written, smooth flowing and easy to read. The author did a great job portraying the characters, their emotions and the experiences they went through.

I am not a history buff, but the book seems to be historically accurate. While the book is a work of fiction I think the author did an amazing job of not only portraying the characters, but what people in general were going through during that time in the areas mentioned in the book.

With all of the air raids people are dying left in right. Cryptanalysts are working long hours trying to decipher German messages to try and help their people win the war. When one of the cryptanalysts is found murdered while on leave, an investigation is immediately launched. It is imperative that the investigators find out if she revealed any information to her murderer.

Commander Grey Hamilton and an old friend from university who works at Scotland Yard are in charge of the investigation. They must work quickly and thoroughly to solve this crime. When the threat of another murder is made known an American genious cryptanalyst joins the team, for her own protection as much as to help the case.

I love the main characters Grace and Grey. Grey was part of Her Majesty's Royal Navy until he was injured. After healing from his injury he becomes part of the group known as MI6. He is dedicated to his job and loyal to his country. After his former engagement went south, his heart has been hardened and is often cold towards women. When he starts investigating the murder of a cryptanalyst he is exceptionally harsh with her friend and neighbor Grace.

Grace is literally a genius. She is strong, smart, beautiful and dedicated to doing her part to make the world a better place. What better way than to help end the war. She is willing to do whatever it takes to do her part.

I highly recommend this book to those who love mystery and suspense, historical novels and a bit of romance

When reading this book, one is taken back to WWII, primarily in England. I usually don't like historical novels, but this one focuses more on the mystery of who killed Jacky Vidal. Solving a murder during the blitz can prove to be hazardous to your health. But Scotland Yard and M16 get the job done. The person who did the dastardly deed was a surprise to this reader. The two main characters, Grey Hamilton and Grace Sullivan, are well developed and the scenes are described without too much detail that bogs down a story. There are enough supporting characters to make the story interesting, but not so many that the reader is left wondering, "Now who was that?" For the most part, in my opinion, it's not a "page turner", but it does have it's moments when you want to keep reading to make sure everyone is safe. I enjoyed the British perspective and dialogue. It made you feel like you were in England even more. This is a Christian novel, but it doesn't beat you up with Christian ideology. The Christian aspect comes out in how the main characters act and talk, with a few spoken prayers to God in tough situations.
As a bonus, the book contains a novella entitled, "Broken Vows."

Wow! What a great, exhilarating picture of the brave English fighting the Germans in WWII, VB Tenery has given us. The hunt is on for the murderer of an English cryptologist. Underlying is the war-changing question, have the Nazis received English intelligence? We also see action in the French countryside, as the resistance risks their lives to halt the ongoing approach of the Germans, giving more time for the English to convince the Americans to join the war effort. Through detailed, suspense-filled books like Deathwatch, my knowledge of the strategies and machinations of WWII is becoming much more complete.

This story moves very quickly with enough action for men and enough romance for women. There were definite Christian messages in isolated places, and a few words I would have preferred not to see in a Christian book.

Still, the overall effect was one of amazement of this Greatest Generation and their commitment to keep our world free from tyranny. Deathwatch would have received five stars from me, but there were grammar and spelling mistakes that were distracting to an otherwise perfect war adventure.

I gratefully received a copy of this book from the author and bookfun.org in exchange for my honest opinion.

Deathwatch by V. B. Tenery is a novel of intrigue and adventure set in WWII England. Tenery indicates she tried to keep the story true to the actual historical events of the early years of the war. Grace is a cryptanalyst in a crucial code cracking group at England's Bletchley Park and when one of her co-workers is murdered she finds herself the next target. Grey is one of MI6's finest agents and he has been assigned to solve the murder and keep Grace safe, a task he finds quite challenging. The pages of this book were infused with drama, suspense, mystery, and reluctant romance. The author presents a realistic picture of a war-torn England in the descriptions of London and the dangers that individuals and military teams found themselves in. The characters are well-rounded and believable. Can Grey keep Grace safe? What extreme measure does he have to take to do so? Who is responsible for the deaths surrounding this case? With the lives of brave soldiers at stake, failure to complete this assignment is not a choice. The twists and turns to the plot keep the pages turning. Deathwatch is a great historical novel for buffs of World War II stories.

“Deathwatch” by V. B. Tenery is a wonderful novel! This is the first novel I’ve read by this author, and I intend to read more. She had me hooked from the first page. This novel is set in the WWII era. I usually don’t enjoy historical fiction, but this novel had enough suspense to keep me enthralled throughout the whole book.

This novel starts out with a cryptanalyst in Britain being murdered. Commander Grey Hamilton is in charge of finding out who did this. Could it be a jealous lover or was it the Germans? His longtime friend from Scotland Yard and a young American woman who is also a genius, join him in this investigation. This book has lots of suspense and a little romance along the way.

I highly recommend this novel for anyone that likes suspense with some history thrown in.

I found this mystery quite interesting for several reasons not the least of which was the author chose to base it during the timeframe of World War 2. This required the characters to face many intriguing situations for which there seemed no way out. Having the main players working with MI6 and Scotland Yard also added a touch of realism for the WW2 period. This mystery should be a good read for mystery fans, especially those interested in history.
