About the author

J.A. Huss never wanted to be a writer and she still dreams of that elusive career as an astronaut. She originally went to school to become an equine veterinarian but soon figured out they keep horrible hours and decided to go to grad school instead. That Ph.D wasn’t all it was cracked up to be (and she really sucked at the whole scientist thing), so she dropped out and got a M.S. in forensic toxicology just to get the whole thing over with as soon as possible.

After graduation she got a job with the state of Colorado as their one and only hog farm inspector and spent her days wandering the Eastern Plains shooting the shit with farmers. After a few years of that, she got bored. And since she was a homeschool mom and actually does love science, she decided to write science textbooks and make online classes for other homeschool moms. She wrote more than two hundred of those workbooks and was the number one publisher at the online homeschool store many times, but eventually she covered every science topic she could think of and ran out of shit to say.

So in 2012 she decided to write fiction instead. That year she released her first three books and started a career that would make her a New York Times bestseller and land her on the USA Today Bestseller’s List eighteen times in the next three years. Her books have sold millions of copies all over the world, the audio version of her semi-autobiographical book, Eighteen, was nominated for a Voice Arts Award and an Audie award in 2016 and 2017 respectively, her audiobook Mr. Perfect was nominated for a Voice Arts Award in 2017, and her book, Taking Turns, was nominated for an Audie Award in 2018. Johnathan McClain is her first (and only) writing partner and even though they are worlds apart in just about every way imaginable, it works.

She lives on a ranch in Central Colorado with her family.

Mr. Romantic is book 2 in Huss’s new Mister series. Let me tell you, this is one of those series you’ll become addicted to. I just finished this one, and I’m dying for the next! I can’t wait to read all about the rest of the Misters and I’m especially dying for the last book- Mr. Match. I’m loving the way these books weave together. How little twists continually pop in the series. That’s Julie’s style. She does the best with writing a sexy romance with just enough twists, turns and mystery to keep you enthralled.

There’s this fear inside me. A fear of taking risks. I’ve never been a risk-taker. I’ve always played it safe.


For the first time in Ivy Rockwell’s life, she’s not playing it safe. She is going on a job interview with him. The elusive Mr. Romantic, Nolan Delany. There are so many rumors about this man but she wants to meet him for herself. Nolan Delany is a successful business owner who’s been in the public eye for a decade, ever since a scandal went down in his college years. When this young blonde comes to his newest resort for a job interview, he doesn’t know what to think. All he knows is he wants her.



I don’t even know where to go from here- the rest of the plot was intense, steamy and taboo in the best way. Ivy and Nolan have intense chemistry. Their attraction to one another is instantaneous. Mr. Romantic is, in fact, romantic at times. But there is so much more to Nolan Delany that meets the eye. He is full of secrets and mystery and we get a more in-depth look into what really happened the night the Mister’s lives were forever changed. I enjoyed Nolan, and I really loved Ivy. She was sweet and innocent, but also had a backbone was a fun character to read about. What I really loved was the fantasy between them…

Mr. Romantic was a little more suspenseful than the first book in this series, but it was still super sexy and fun. Once I started it, I was hooked and finished it quickly. I loved watching things unfold and I’m salivating for the next book in this series! If you’re looking for an erotic romance that has twists and turns, mystery and suspense and will keep you on the edge of your seat, meet the Mister’s and pick this one up!

This will seriously be one big rambling so apologies.



First off, I’m putting it out there, up front, there's a rape fantasy scene in this book. I must stress it is a fantasy but I know it’s a hard limit for some readers. There’s not much that bothers me so I can’t help you here but if this is your limit, don’t read it.

Okay, with that out of the way, if you’re still with me…holy hell. I’m always in awe at how Julie reels me in, fucks with me, and then leaves me in a mess.



I’m not going to tell you anything about this book, I won’t do it justice but I’ll tell you how it made me feel. If you’ve read Mr. Perfect, while a standalone, the mystery continues to unfolds about what happened to these guys 10 years ago. In this one, we meet the second mister, Mr. Romantic - Nolan Delaney.



Ivy Rockwell is a recent Business/Marketing graduate looking for a job. She’s asked to interview for Mr. Romantic as he’s looking for a Brand/Marketing manager for his new hotel resort.

Ivy is waayyyy out of her depth with Nolan, but she’s brave, attracted and tired of being the good girl who always plays it safe. Nolan takes her and the reader on a journey that is so, so many things. I don’t know where to start!



I was truly a mess, just like Ivy. I was attracted and alarmed, in equal parts, by Mr. Romantic. Confused, terrified, uncertain and massively turned on. I doubted myself, pushed way out of my comfort zone and at times, I thought I wanted it to stop or maybe not.



“I like getting my way. I like having power. I like bending the will of resistant people, arcing it so far back from what they consider normal…”



Julie truly had me feeling like Ivy. I was in her skin, living and breathing every moment with her. And it was spectacular, gripping and also insane!! There’s a whole lot of dramatic tension in this book and a lot of questioning, second guessing and wondering what the fuck is the truth. Riveting!



JA Huss did it again! Blew my mind and left me jonesing for more! Finally, I’ve fallen in love with…Mr. Mysterious, he’s MY man (Michelle, sorry not sorry). He’s drops into this story, actually most of the misters do, and let me tell you, he stole the show (IMO). Of course, he’s book 4…fuck, the waiting’ll kill me!

2 'Stop' Stars!

I really thought I could do it. I really did. I really loved Mr Perfect but I was totally hesitant to read this after reading many reviews and knowing it has fantasy rape in it.

My heart could not take it, sorry. This was was extremely disturbing and uncomfortable for me, even while knowing it was just a fantasy. I almost stopped reading but I hate doing that! I really wanted to love Nolan and Ivy but this was just too much for my taste. I really hope the next book is better for me!

Still, giving it 2 STARS because of Julie's writing and the suspenseful plot with all the Misters!

Holy mother of all things, this book was on fire! I gotta warn you, it contains sexual scenes that some might find disturbing, and it really won't appeal to the delicate flowers of this world, but my goodness, I found it to be a really well written erotic romance that shows both the dominant an vulnerable side of the man they call Mr. Romantic.

Ivy Rockwell is a recent graduate, who is searching for a job that she can get stuck into and enjoy, so when she is invited to take a private jet and be interviewed for a marketing role at an elite hotel resort in the middle of the desert, she throws caution to the wind and agrees to meet the infamous Nolan Delaney.

Nolan has a shady past that he cannot escape, and a reputation that precedes him. Nobody knows exactly why he is dubbed Mr. Romantic, but he definitely does love the ladies, and as soon as he sets his eyes on Ivy, he knows he wants her in his bed.

"Now you'll see how I do it. None of that soft shit, Ivy.
I like it hard. And when I'm done, you'll like it hard too."

I loved the relationship between Nolan and Ivy, Nolan is very experienced and Ivy is the complete opposite, but her lack of sexual experience endeared me to her, she was sweet and innocent, but not naive or entirely green. She was a very strong and capable heroine.

Nolan's vulnerable side was equally as sexy as his kinky fantasies, and I adored the way he trusted his inner instincts when it came to Ivy, he always knew she was a special kind of someone, and he fought for what he wanted.

If you fancy something a bit naughty, then this is the book for you.

Mr. Romantic is a standalone erotic romance, told in dual POV. Part of an overall series with an ongoing story arc.

A few key things:
1. Mr. Romantic can be read as a standalone. Each book consists of separate characters/couples with their own story.
2. There is a very taboo situation in this book. It’s not a spoiler because Julie makes it very obvious and clear that it is going to happen. So there is plenty of time for a reader who might have triggers to stop before it happens. Rape Fantasy. This is a huge thing that is very common and is one of the top sexual fantasies that women have. It is consensual and it is planned out and safe. There aren’t many books that tackle this theme and even fewer that do it correctly. Julie NAILED IT. It was flawless.
3. Readers with real trigger issues need to proceed with caution. And honestly, there is no excuse to feel surprised by the events in this book. It is all clearly laid out for the reader as the story builds. And given the nature of the overall storyline we know so far, the brilliance in the complexity this lends to the story is amazing.



So on to the book. I have to admit, I started this review a few times and deleted it all because I just can’t find the right words to do this book justice. If this feels choppy, it’s only because my head is all over the place, even after letting this one stew for a bit....

Ivy is our heroine. She’s fresh out of college, completely inexperienced and finds herself with an invitation to interview for Nolan Delaney. Without knowing how this opportunity landed in her lap, she jump on it. For Nolan, he has already mixed business and pleasure and been burned. Nolan has no idea where Ivy came from and although he has every intention of fucking her, hiring her is really out of the question.

The chase is on pretty quickly. Instant attraction but hesitant emotional involvement. I loved that we had this instant lust but that the deeper connection took time to be constructed. Ivy had backbone. I loved her for it. She stood her ground and she didn’t back down. But she allowed Nolan to chase. She knew that she wanted him but she also knew it had to be somewhat on her terms. Her inner battle was done perfectly and although he pressed her to give in, her submission was her own. Dubious consent is hot as fuck when done correctly and the use of the proper POV for this to develop is really key.

Nolan was complex. There is this brutal vulnerability about him and although he was cocky, he was sweet at the same time. I think given the history he had, the idea that one of his kinks was so tied to what nearly ruined him was a struggle within itself. Imagine the turmoil he must have faced trying to come to terms with that reality. That he got off on the role playing but was accused of such a horrible crime – that parallel alone put this book in a league of its own.

It wouldn’t be a JA Huss romance without the twisty surprises that she sprinkles into the story – and Mr. Romantic is no different. We get some little breadcrumbs of the events that took place ten years ago when these five guys were accused of rape and we get to see how those events still shape their lives all those years later. Each one of these books are turning out to be about so much more than what was expected. With every revelation delivered, we get more mystery and are left with more questions. This story is layered and complex and I have a feeling that with each building block of this plot it is just going become more mind blowing.

Even days after reading this, I can’t get over how well Julie executed this story. Each scene fed of the scene before, building into this intense storm where you as the reader were sucked so far into the story that reality and fantasy blurred. I was on the edge of my seat for the last 25-30% of this story. I was in love with Nolan, I was doubtful of everything. I was consumed and I was drawn into Ivy so deeply that I felt everything she was experiencing. I had faith I knew what was real and that faith was pushed to its limit. Up was down and I was turned inside out while watching this unfold. And the sheer talent displayed in the writing of this book puts me at a loss for words.




There are times that this story took you to a place where you battled with your priorities. Do you continue reading or do you stop for a few minutes and just hump your hand for a few minutes.... or do you just balance that shit on your knee and do both at the same time? The fucking hotness in this story is off the charts. It was explosive. The way these scenes were created left you with such vivid images of these two together. Absolutely flawless from start to finish.

This was a hold your breath and hang on for the ride of your life romance. Thrilling, suspenseful and hot enough to leave a wet spot.

I am so glad that I staked my claim on these five characters early on. #MrsToTheMisters Each character is better than the one before it and I am anticipating some heated hate fucking when we get to Mr. Corporate, some fucked up shit for Mr. Mysterious and coming home when Mr. Match gets here. I love that this character was placed into this series. I love that there is a new team to fall in love with.

The number of stars this book deserves is limitless.

Maybe it's just going to be a thing with this author, but yet again I came out of her book very confused on how I feel. I didn't hate it, but there were many things that I got really annoyed with, mostly the characters. The overall story kept me interested, but not enough for me to ignore all the individual things that were issues for me.

What I liked:
The intensity of this story is what kept me glued to my Kindle while trying to figure out how Ivy and Nolan's relationship would play out. There were many times the author had me questioning what would happen, and the ending was a complete unknown, which I loved. It was suspenseful and had me conflicted at many parts of the story. Not because of what I had issues with but because I couldn't decide what I thought was going to happen. Was it going to end badly? Would Nolan stop being such an ass? Would I eventually like his asshole behavior? Just so many questions. And I loved being that it made me extra invested in the story.

Now on to the sexiness. I'm sure if you've read other reviews the whole rape fantasy thing has been mentioned so you're aware of it. And I can't stress the word fantasy enough, so keep that in mind. And as long as that's not a turn off or trigger for you, this book is worth reading for that alone. It was tastefully done...in the dirties way possible. Nolan gets an A for dirty talk, just saying.



The way the other Misters were incorporated in the book added an extra mystery and is what makes me want to go on with this series. I'm so curious about the other men that we really don't know anything about. I think it's great the way J.A Huss keeps giving us these tiny hints about what's to come, yet reveals almost nothing in order to keep us in the dark about the upcoming books. It makes me crazy with need to get my hands on the other Misters.

What I didn't like:
While Nolan definitely had some qualities that I liked reading about, I was also very annoyed at him at many points in this story. Both he and Ivy just seemed to be all over the place with their feelings and it gave me a bit of whiplash. It was just too frustrating to read about them liking and wanting each other, to them accusing each other of things and hating one another, and then back to ripping clothes off one another. They needed to make up their mind faster.



And since they had this constant battle going between them I never saw the connection. So when the ending came and it was this big HEA and love, I was just confused where that came from.

I know I said I liked the sexiness, and I did. But not all of it. Again, the waffling back and forth got annoying and it ruined the scenes. Ivy's inner dialogue during those moments got on my nerves because she kept changing her mind about what was going on. For me, it didn't add suspense to what was happening, it just made Ivy annoyingly conflicted and I didn't like that in those parts.

The Bottom Line:
I still highly recommend this book because even with my issues I was captivated with the story the entire time. The characters weren't the best for me, and that did take some of my enjoyment of the story away, but I hope everyone else will love this book.

Warning:As previously stated there is a rape fantasy played out in this book. There is NO actual rape but there are scenes that could be triggers for some people.

i didn't know if I should rate this 2 stars, 3 stars or 4 stars so I thought it'd be better to shoot down the middle

the last time I read a novel with rape fantasy, the heroine was kidnapped, tortured, raped and murdered SOOOO this was an interesting one to dive into

the hero was so believable during the "rape" scenes. I was like...is he really tryna rape her??? then i'd go 'nah it's just a fantasy'. till he'd say shit like this—

“It's not a scene, you stupid cunt.”

or when the heroine was like 'uh is this for real orrrr'—

“Goddamn it!” I scream. “Goddamn it! Goddamn it! What is real? I can’t fucking tell!”
[...]
“That’s the point,” he says, grinning like a madman.

but then the hero would do shit like this, which i'm normally disgusting by, and it's suddenly hot??? i felt like i was the one living the scene and this man was making me do shit i would never try—

“I know you want me, Ivy. No matter how many times you say no.”
“I don’t,” she says. And then she spits on my face.
I grab her hair and yank her head back, and then I spit right into her open mouth.

I'M STILL SO CONFUSED ON HOW I FEEL ABOUT THE HERO. like he's slimy af and extremely arrogant. he loves playing mind games and putting the heroine through an emotional roller coaster in hopes she gives into his advances. he's the type of man you just wouldn't be able to say no to because he makes you believe you want it

not even gonna lie, the fantasy rape was hot. heaven is a long shot for me at this point so might as well accept it 🤪

“Good girl,” I mutter, pulling the car up to the helipad. “Now keep your mouth shut until I tell you to open it for my cock.”

and ohmygod, prior to meeting the hero, the heroine is a virgin. she ends up not telling him she is because he suggested earlier that he wouldn't fuck a virgin. well after he brutally takes her v-card (remember he didn't know she was a virgin so he was rough), he notices there's blood on the bed—

“Why didn't you tell me you were on your period? I would've put a towel down.”

NAHHH I WOULD HAVE JUMPED OUT OF THE NEAREST WINDOW BAHAHHAHA
the hero ended up not giving a shit and actually found it hot to have been her first

A few random non book review observations after finishing this audiobook- First and foremost. My talkative ass is Speechless! I really have no words right now. My husband thinks I'm under some kind spell because I usually talk his ear off every night. But I'm sitting here trying to get my thoughts and emotions hammered out. 2nd, I think I may be under some kind of spell because I can't process my feelings on this book, but I've already 1-clicked the next one!! WTH? I am beyond captivated at this point! Whether or not that's a good thing, I can't say at the moment. However, my propensity to see this series through the end says something about the writing, concept, and story.

Here are the basics: Ivy and Mr. Romantic (Nolan) meet when she accepts an invitation to interview for a job at his new resort. They are instantly attracted to one another. They're both hiding major secrets from each other, but very quickly begin a physical relationship. The drama begins to unfold shortly afterward. These two are on a dark and twisty path. It was quite unexpected and at times hard to read (listen). Ultimately, they survive the dramas and All's well that ends well.
Nolan is dirty talking alpha yumminess (most of the time). He's intriguing and complex. Ivy is young, naive, and tenacious. I won't call her TSTL, but she makes some questionable decision for damn sure!

I listened to this book straight through. I was completely captivated from start to finish. Turns out Mr. Romantic is not really a romance, but more a romantic suspense or mystery. It wasn't short on steam, but the underlying story is the central focus.

This book doesn't have a trigger warning. The author explains her rationale for that at the end of the book and I respect all her points. However, this book is not for everyone. While rape fantasy and the actual act are different, this book pushing that envelope. I can read pretty much anything with no issue and I cringed due to some of the language and actions. So, if safety is a concern for you, heed my warning.

Audiobook Review: The audiobook narration is pretty good. I sped it up just a little, but had no major issues overall.
I would definitely recommend the audio version.

Overall, this wasn't the happy go lucky book I expected. It completely defied my expectations. However, what I found was an psychologically thrilling case study of the human condition. Good, bad, or indifferent I have to acknowledge how addicted this series has become. I'm off to read Book 3.

I rate this one 3.5 to 4 Stars.

Mr. Romantic is the second book in the Misters series and can be read as a standalone. Like most linked books I think it’s best to read them all to get the whole story, especially now that I see how things are unfolding in this series.

The story begins with Ivy Rockwell, a recent Brown graduate getting invited to an exclusive job interview with Nolan Delaney. She is obviously excited, but also a little taken aback since she didn’t apply and thinks there is no way she will get the job. Its the chance of a lifetime so of course she accepts the invite.

Nolan Delany is Mr. Romantic, and Ivy is immediately warned to stay away from him and not to fall for any of his advances. Ivy decides to disregard the warning and take her chances with the dangerous Mr. Romantic. From here, this story is hot, super, super hot. I actually thought that would be the gist of the story and I wasn’t complaining, but I was wrong.



With Mr. Romantic we begin to see a little mystery and suspense, nothing over the top, it’s still an erotic romance. However, I really loved the direction Huss took with the story. I liked how things are slowly being revealed and I really can’t wait to get more answers. I also loved getting a little more information about Mr. Match. I got legit cold chills when another past character's name was mentioned.

This series really reminds me of the Rook & Ronin series as it has love, sexy times and real connections, but it also has a suspenseful/twisty side. I am so excited to see what comes and can only imagine falling more and more in love with this series!

The heroine: Ivy Rockwell - one day when sitting at home, she hears a knock at the door, it is a man in a black suit who gives her an embossed silver invitation to apply for a managerial job with Delaney Resorts in Borrego Springs California. Ivy never applied for the job, but if she says yes, she has to sign an NDA at which time the details will be provided. She will be brought to California on a private jet. She decides to go for it after looking up Delaney Resorts to see if it is a real place. She graduated last spring and hasn’t yet gotten a job.

The Heroes: Nolan Delaney (a.k.a. Mr. Romantic) - his friend West sent over files for some interviews for new managerial employees. When he first sees Ivy’s file, he is not impressed with the fact that she graduated from Brown, where he went until the scandal with he and his friends. They were known as the Mister’s and even though they were acquitted of rape charges, they never finished college. Though he and his friends are all doing well in business. He owns seven popular night clubs but now is moving into the hotel business. He plans to hire one of the men that applied.

The Story: Ivy was a sheltered minister’s daughter for most of her life and is still a virgin at 22 years old. She lives in New England and wants to move on with her life and do some of the things she has been missing out on. So she jumps in and goes to get the job at Delaney Resorts. She knew that Nolan Delaney was known as Mr. Romantic ten years ago when he and his friends attended Brown and there was a scandal. She would love for him to be the one to take her V card. She doesn’t think she will get the job, but decides to take the opportunity to get out of her comfort zone.

Nolan’s sister Claudette is the one that checks Ivy in at the start and basically tells her not to fall for Nolan’s charm and that Ivy has absolutely no chance of getting the position and will be gone by the end of the day. But she gives her the chance to make a presentation even though the two men vying for the job have been working on their presentations since before Ivy even arrived. I was really hoping Ivy would blow them away with hers.

Nolan is a powerful and arrogant player and he likes to use his power and his looks to get what he wants out of people, especially women. My feelings on him are a bit mixed. I feel for him since he was accused of rape and was innocent and since then he has been accused of a few different things. His father and sister never gave him the benefit of the doubt or believed in him. Yet he was so cocky that he was hard to like.

There is some controversy in other reviews because of the steamy scenes in this one since Nolan is in to rape fantasy. Though I don’t have a problem with it. Is it really a rape fantasy if there is consent? I don’t really think so, he puts it that he just likes the struggle and a bit of rough sex. I don’t see that as all that deviant or even someone who would condone actual rape. So I don’t really know what everyone is up in arms about. Like Nolan, I think that it is all about the consent, and he detailed in writing everything he would do to her and gave her a safe word, saying that everything would stop if she said it.

This book is told in dual points of view via dual narration and was narrated by Erin Mallon and Tad Branson. Both of these are good narrators. I really like Erin’s voice and cadence. Her voice is soft and feminine and sounds age appropriate for Ivy and she is really good at sounding anxious which Ivy is for much of the book. Tad has a clear and sharp voice, that isn’t my favorite but is fine otherwise.

In the first book of the Mister Series, we met Mr. Perfect and now ladies and gentlemen, it’s time to meet Mr. Romantic. Yes, that’s right who doesn’t love a man whose moniker is associated with romance, love and hearts and flowers. Well before you swoon over Mr. Romantic, we gotta remember this is a J.A. motherffing Huss book and so this is no ordinary hearts and flowers book. It’s a J.A. Huss book so you should know to expect a fun, sexy, provocative and of course a little shocker to liven up the story.



Romance...who doesn’t love a little romance in their lives? Well I know I am a sucker for romance stories and in true J.A. Before we find out who Mr. Romantic is, we need to meet the heroine of this book. Ivy Rockwell is a recent Brown college graduate who is in need of a job. And so when Ivy gets an exclusive envelope informing her that she got a job interview at Delany Resorts, a job that she never applied for, she is shocked and at the same intrigued. Not wanting to pass the opportunity to meet the infamous Mr. Romantic, Ivy accepts the job interview and boards the private plane to California to meet Mr. Romantic himself. And not only does Ivy want to meet Mr. Romantic, she hopes that maybe he could be the one to pop her cherry.



Nolan Delany aka Mr. Romantic is in the stages of opening his resort and is in need of employees to help market and manage and the resort. And with three applicants vying for the job, Nolan needs to narrow it down who has what it takes to help run his resort. And with Nolan being a serious flirt and playboy, he is ready to charm and seduce the young and innocent Ivy Rockwell since there is something about her that intrigues him. Well it didn’t take long for Nolan to get Ivy in his bed. And let’s just say after one night with Ivy, Nolan was addicted. So far Mr. Romantic sounds like a great catch...right? Well, besides having that great sexual appeal, Nolan doesn’t sound so bad right…. Well, Nolan has one secret. Or in this case a secret fantasy.

“You’re smart to think that. It’s all true. But that’s not why I like you, Ivy. I want you. You. Not because you’re innocent, but because you’re smart. You’ll be able to tell the difference between the fantasy and the reality. That’s why you’re here.”

Nothing wrong with having fantasies right. Well Nolan’s sexual fantasy is a sexual kink that he enjoys and is always with consent. And so when he informs Ivy of his sexual fantasy, a part of her is scared and another greater part of her is intrigued. Will Ivy be able to submit and fulfill Nolan’s fantasy?

“I’m in love. I might not be the most experienced woman, but I know what I’ll be missing if Mr. Romantic ever gets away. Everything. I’ll be missing everything.”

Like I said, J.A. Huss doesn’t do the cookie cutter romance and so she weaves another aspect to the story line which also heightens the excitement to the story of Nolan and Ivy. So with a little twist added into the plot line, Ms. Huss has perfectly treated her readers to a love story that has layers of self-discovery, chicanery, kink, and of course romance. So if you are ready to get held hostage by Ms. Huss stunning prose and delve deep into finding out who are the other misters then I highly suggest you read Mr. Romantic.

THIS sums up the book very sufficiently, I think.

And no, the whole “rape fantasy” thing doesn't bother me. If it's consensual, it's fine. It's a f*cking FANTASY after all, yeah?

No, no, no. I wasn't wowed by this story because of something entirely different. The thing that bothered me about it was the fact that Mr. Romantic was NOT impressive at all, and because the romantic build-up was sadly...like a joke. It felt like these two people fell in “love” with each other merely 'cause they think they've found their match in the sex department. They like the same freaky stuff. They MUST be soulmates, right? NO.

OVERALL: There's nothing bad I can say about JA Huss' writing or storytelling skills. She is one of my favourites, because she can surprise me, shock me, excite me. I will keep on with this series because I want answers about “that night” and I'm pretty sure it will be MINDBLOWING!

Let me address the elephant in the room first.
Yes this book has a rape fantasy, and no that is not my problem with it.
This is the story of Ivy and Mr. Romantic, Nolan.
Ivy receives a mysterious invitation to go and interview for Nolan. When their eyes meet, while Ivy wants the job, Nolan wants to fck her. And it happens. And it's basically the story.
My issues with the book
- it is not a love story- more like a big fantasy fuck fest
- The characters appeared bipolar. One minute hating, next minute totally being into the same thing. Their emotions were more in movement than a ping pong ball.
- I don't mind rape fantasies, but the hero creeped me out. Not a fan of slapping, just saying. And the heroine was genuinely afraid. Not a fan of that feeling either as a reader.
- I don't even get the whole Mr Romantic thing- he certainly wasn't that
Finally overall, I wasn't into this book. I hoped I would have liked it- as book 1 was enjoyable but I did not feel the chemistry between the leads except just lust. The ending was abrupt too.

Going to keep it simple...Mr. Romantic wasn't my cup of of tea :/

I loved book 1 and I'm completely invested in the direction this tale is headed. Huss always goes way outside the box and totally entertains me. I'm just going to chalk it up to my complete lack of connection with Nolan Delaney. A bit crazy...kinda effed up...not so sexy in my eyes. Because of that I just got thru the book and hope the next Mister will come along soon!

I'm truthfully unsure about how I feel about this book so I'm giving it 3 stars. I liked parts but other parts I didn't really. In the author's note at the end she said she didn't think this book needed a trigger warning because it was lighter then any of her darker books but I really disagree. This should definitely have a trigger warning. The sex scenes were really where the book lost me, they weren't my cup of tea and were really intense and a little disturbing. I'll give everyone a heads up they play out a rape fantasy and it is really intense so go into this book prepared for that. I'm going to keep reading the series hoping that this was just a fluke.

I began to think this was going to be one of those books that focuses so much on the sex that it doesn't develop the stories or characters enough. And in some ways it was. I don't allege to understand the whole bdsm stuff. I mean if a guy slaps me he'll be picking his balls out of his lungs. But, to each their own.
Anyway, in some ways it took over the story at times at the expense of character development. But, the parts that moved the overall "Mr." story along were really cool. Very Pretty Little Liars in the 'someone in the background manipulating them.' I'm hooked. I want to know who their puppet master is.

I always struggle writing reviews for JA Huss's books. Her mind is fascinating to me. I have loved every single one of her books, and I've read them all, even when I think I shouldn't love them. Some of them are pretty darn disturbing. Some of her characters are just plain assholes. I hate them at first and I yell at my kindle telling the heroine to run far, far away and yet by the end of the book I'm swooning over that same jerk. How does she do it? How can she take a book that can be disturbing with a total ass of a hero and have me completely falling for him at the end?

Every single one of her books start out one way and end up another. They are intriguing, mysterious and suck me in every time. I think I know what's going to happen and then I don't. Every book has my mind whirling hours after reading them. JA Huss has me 100% hooked. I'm an addict that doesn't wan rehab. Give me more. My greed knows no bounds with what she's selling.

Mr. romantic is no different but is. Confused? Good. I'm always confused, yet so damn satisfied at the end. If my previous statement above is not warning enough, then let me just start out by saying Mr. romantic is dark and has possible triggers for some. There is a fantasy rape scene. Despite that, this really isn't as dark by some standards. It's just not a light and fluffy read.

Mr. romantic is the 2nd standalone in a series of 5 Misters series. All five of the Misters were accused of a gang rape when they were in college. They never went to trial but as you know, once your accused, you are defined by the accusations. They have all suffered and have tried to moved on in their own way. Mr. Romantic is Nolan Delaney's story.

Nolan is opening a high end resort in the desert. It's in the desert, why would anyone want to vacation in the desert? It's not a great location and he's hiring a manager that has innovative ideas to draw people to the resort. Ivy is fresh out of college and receives an invitation to interview for the position along with two other experienced managers. At least Ivy thinks that's what she's there for. Intrigued yet? Ok, here is where I struggle with my reviews. I can't tell you more without spoiling the story. Everyone thinks one thing is going on, but then pieces get revealed and then there is doubt and in the middle of it all Nolan and Ivy grow closer but can they trust each other? Is someone still trying to take the Misters down even after all these years? Or are they as dangerous as the world has been told through the media?

If you like mystery, intrigue, a bit of a dark thriller and being at the edge of your seat as you get sucked in more and more. This is the book for you. You won't be disappointed!

A fast faced, heart pounding, romantic suspense that will leave you with a knot in your throat and a smile on your face.

I'm labeling this as Romantic Suspense with a twist of Mystery, because I can't quite put my finger on what it could, should be. Some scenes could be disturbing to sensitive readers. Prepare for a wild ride. Never take a Huss book at face value, there's always that snake laying in wait.

The Mister Series can be read as stand-alones. Huss explains all that in the beginning of each book. A conspiracy it seems, a false accusation, and a death, has left all "The Misters" in search of a new life. But their past has come back to haunt them. Well, it seems each one has their own story to tell. But it's just a taste of the bigger picture, I have a feeling the last book is going to be an explosion. This is Nolan's part. Mr Romantic.

The story starts with Ivy accepting an invitation for employment from a resort Nolan is building. Of course, it's mystery at the jump, private jets, and suspicions to be had. Nolan a self assured player is bulldozed by Ivy from the start. Where did she come from? Who's playing the player, because he never sent the invitation. Ivy knows the position is way out of her league, but is a force to reckoned with. She has two choices, fall for temptation or fight for a spot that's could start her career. It's instant attraction, a itch, a fire that won't cool. Nolan had me looking over my shoulder while reading, he had me sweating, he had me taking a cold shower. SWEET JESUS! His taste may not be for everyone, but I reading with my googley eyes, all in lust. He's self assured, arrogant, cocky, and sexy times 100. Ivy has challenged the beast, will she get burned?

“So be very sure you want my secrets. Because secrets are dangerous things, and once you know them, you can’t unknow them.”

We get a taste of seduction, sex, and steam. Then Bamn, what just happened? The lion pounces taking a piece of your arm. Nolan's true character, colors come to play. The act is mysterious, dangerous, and completely addictive. Was his past accusations false, or is trying to paint a different perspective? There were so many times through the last half that I quit breathing. I forgot how. I was on the verge of a panic attack. Goosebumps to be had, I think my leg hairs stood on end. I was choked up and feeling like I playing a game I didn't know the rules to. What happened ten years ago, how did it shape the Misters? I ate the mystery up. I seriously cannot wait to read the other's stories. I remember going to the motions, emotions like this when I read The Rook & Ronin Series. This is the reason I continue to be a die hard fan of The Huss.

This book made me rage. Romanticizing rape is never okay. And if you tell me that “fantasy rape” is not romanticizing rape, don’t. You’re wasting your breath.

"Mr. Romantic isn't as dark as some of my characters. James Fenici is dark. Merc is dark. Hell, I think Ford is probably darker than Mr. Romantic. So that's why there's no trigger warning in my blurb. This isn't a dark book and if you think it is, you missed the point." (from the page, End of Book Shit).

The author writes that readers who will find this book to be dark will have more than likely missed the point entirely. And I’m okay with that. I don’t care if your book is something that’s not written with my taste in mind. What I care about is the level of patronizing superiority to assume that you know what would and wouldn’t set your readers off. I’ve read some pretty fucked up Erotica in my life but nothing could ever be this level of fucked up. The man, “Mr. Romantic”, likes to exercise his dominance with fantasy rape. He’s physically and verbally abusive. And yet, the author decided not to put a trigger warning on her blurb, because, like she said, this is not dark. But who are you to decide?

Mr. Romantic has no redeeming qualities whatsoever. He grated on my nerves from the get go. I enjoy dominant characters from time to time, but I was not ready for this man. Ivy Rockwell is the fly trapped in his web. And if there’s anything I hate more than asshole characters it’s the doormat heroines that plays opposite them.

When Ivy Rockwell is sent an invitation to attend a job interview with the infamous Mr. Romantic Nolan Delany, the innocent preacher's daughter gets a lot more than she ever bargains for. This book 2 in the Mr. series is a book that you hate to like it. Nolan Delany may be hot and sexy but he is such a bas**rd and Ivy Rockwell is so weak and gullible, I found that Nolan seemed to groom and brainwash her into doing anything that he wanted and she just did it like a lamb to the slaughter. S0 needless to say I didn't like the characters at all, the story line was interesting and the sex was a mixture of hot but disturbing that covers some very taboo sexual situations so be warned that this book does contain some sexual scenes that some may find disturbing. Great narration by Erin Mallon and Ted Branson

So the author tells us---- "i try to write unlikable antiheroes. I think i do a pretty good job. But i also try and give you a reason to root for them as they find redemption"----

Based on that note, i've given this book 3 stars. Now, my stars are precious to me. There are books out there that evokes so much emotion and sometimes laugh-out-loud humour that it's a no-brainer 5 star read. But this one... this one i really had to sit and think about. Almost no romance, but heaps of sex and a continuation of an unsolved "mystery"... it still intrigued me, yet didn't quite do it for me.

There was one part in this book where the heroine thinks to herself -- "I'm a really stupid girl and this is a really sick man"-- and that by itself concludes my review. The characters in this book have absolutely no connection and yet end up together. He has a fantasy...(personally, a sick one)...and she decides to indulge him. So the book is pretty much them talking about playing out said fantasy. We do meet future characters and get a glimpse into that mysterious event, but there's more than meets the eye.* i really can't say much without giving anything away* As much as i sympathised with Nolan, he was truly sick and i guess i'm glad he allowed Ivy to 'heal' him :I

This is the second book in the Mister series and you absolutely have to read the first book to understand this one. I loved the first book. As smutty as it was, it still had witty banter and a great storyline. So I'm pretty much disappointed with Mr Romantic. Here's hoping the next one's better!

I'm not going to lie, I was on the fence about Mr. Romantic and all his messed up issues, not to mention not understanding what the hell Ivy was thinking for a huge chunk of this bad boy. In true Julie Huss fashion, she makes me kinda was to squeeze Nolan by the end and has me rooting for this couple. I'm curious where she is going to take this series, but I'm absolutely dying for the last book, being a hardcore fan Oliver Shrike already has me won over, I love that he is Mr. Match.

Mr. Romantic is a little bit like a dark story, with characters you feel like you may have met before, and in which the big bad wolf isn't a real character, but rather the characters' past, getting ready to eat them all...



My first reaction after I finished reading Mr. Romantic was 'Holy mind fuck Batman!' because that's what this story was. Like Ivy, I never really knew if Nolan was serious or not and that kept me on the edge of my seat and made it quite hard to breathe at times. This story covers some very dark themes, even if a lot of the action is quite light-hearted. And I don't think the sexual fantasy part of the story will be for everyone - I found it to be extremely well done, though. And while it's not at all something I'd fantasize about myself, I can totally understand why some people do.

I hated Claudette, Nolan's sister, from the first time I met her - I found her to be such a bitch, and she just never eased up in any way. Both the way she treated Nolan and the way she went after Ivy just made me have an instant dislike towards her. Nolan had me very uncomfortable for a while, too, both because of what he was accused of ten years ago, and the things he did and said to Ivy at the beginning, before he really knew her. Huss does dark, mysterious and uncomfortable so very well, and I have to say Mr. Romantic played with my feelings at least as much as her other books have done in the past!

The Misters have a very weird relationship to each other, and some of them are still very mysterious. In Mr. Perfect, we met well... Mr. Perfect, and there was little interactions with the others. In Mr. Romantic, we also got to meet Mr. Mysterious and Mr. Match. Mr. Corporate showed up very briefly, so I'm even more curious about how this whole series will unfold in the future. These Misters were all accused of a horrible crime ten years ago, and neither of them managed to finish their education because of it. This already can be enough to put some readers off, and the fantasy that Nolan wants to play out with Ivy even more so - so beware. I'm pretty sure even the kindle extract will give you a feel for what it's all going to be about and you can make your choice. Just know that even if I was uncomfortable at times, I really enjoyed the story, and I was amazed at how well it was written.

There is both humor and romance too in Mr. Romantic, as well as a very healthy dose of suspense because of the way the story unfolds. Back to the writing - the readers get chapters from both Ivy's and Nolan's perspectives, which is truly awesome, because we are able to know their inner thoughts even if they don't necessarily share that with each other. First perspective, present tense makes the story move forward at the same time as we are reading, which really makes the action feel very immediate and lends a sense of urgency to the  story and the plot. And I think my coherence is taking a break now while I squee ;)



"I know." Nora laughs. "You're not that kind of girl." Her words echo through my head. Not that kind of girl. All my life I've been living with that label and most of the recent years I've been asking myself... why can't I be that kind of girl?

I think I saw this on an old episode of Seinfeld once, so it has to work.

You know what I've always wondered? Why she believes all these accusations girls throw at me. Why is it so easy for her to believe everyone but me?

Mr. Romantic J. A. Huss

I've said this before and I have a feeling I'll keep on saying it when it comes to Julie's works.. Always expect the unexpected and don't put her in a box because she doesn't belong in a predictable category.

Mr. Romantic is one example of one crazy ride Julie is famous for. I felt like she grabbed me from the first page, dragged me against all kinds of surfaces and left me a mess. The crazy part? I was smiling because of the experience. Crazy. The good kind.

Nolan's reputation, shady past and experiences with the ladies made him such an interesting character and Ivy was an exact opposite so that was recipe for either a match made in heaven or a complete disaster. Or maybe somewhere in between was their own version of perfection. Maybe.

There was mystery and suspense but I would say this was still an erotic romance with a twist. Julie is always about the twist that's why I'm a happy camper whenever I get ahold of her books.

Mr. Romantic is nothing like Mr. Perfect but both guys (and books) have their own unique flavors that set them apart. One thing these guys (and books) have in common was their undeniable magnetic appeal to the readers. The story had a great plot, the pacing was on point and the storyline was cohesive. Julie is a master at creating complex characters yet make her readers see the simplicity of it as well. She is well-versed in creating a story line filled with suspense or mystery but still manage to keep her readers wanting more.

Give this book a chance and you won't regret taking this ride with the rest of us.

I'm not happy to be reading this. It's got unfriendly reviews. I only read the first book in this series. But she tacked Five into this series so I'll read it. But this will be the last series I read from this author as I don't like her tactics.


After a couple torturous weeks trying to read this I finally finished. Spoiler is below...

This was awful. Because these two people are awful. There is nothing likable at all about either of them. The girl Ivy in this book starts out saying " not to brag or anything but I was a lot cuter than his last girlfriend"

Really Ivy ?! I'm willing to bet she was a lot smarter, so she wins because you are one stupid ass girl!

This virgin girl gets invite to job interview with a man accused of rape in college. But got off because the girl died. She never applied for this job, mysteriously she's been selected. So off she goes to interview for alleged rapist. Who turns out to be Mr. Sick ass creepy , not Mr romantic. (That's for sure. ) I can't even go into how pissed I am this author couldn't come up with something new and is recycling the old " company" storyline. I also can't go into the stupid ass " fantasy " rape either.

This book needs a Goodreads shelf of its own seeing how I had no idea how to tag it. There is so much going on, I had to review it ASAP to keep things straight in my head.

Mr. Delany you took my breath away. In pure JA Huss fashion I hated you for about the first half of this book. Because I'm a superfan, I didn't let those feelings fester long, as I know you will redeem yourself by the end. And you did. In spades.

"You're getting me tonight Ivy. I hope you can handle it. Because I'd hate to disappoint Mr. Corporate at the next party." ~ Mr. Romantic.

Me, me, me. That's the mantra of Mr. Romantic. Look how handsome I am, how rich I am and how big my dick is. I'm gonna rock your world baby. Blah, blah, blah, my least favorite character in the book world is the blow hard alpha male. He's the man and he's gonna give it to you. Piss off dude, actions speak louder than words and that's what couldn't wait to get from Nolan Delany. Action.

"I can imagine Mr. Romanic being one transgression after another. And I can imagine all the hearts he's broken in the process. I can imagine all the ways in which he walks out. All the ways in which he is begged to stay." ~ Ivy

I was right there with Ivy the entire time. Wanting to know what makes this guy tick. Sure we all know what happened to the Misters ten years ago, but how did it affect Mr. Romantic? Was he romatic before the incident? Did the incident make him the cold shell of a man he is today? This guy was very mysterious, so now I am a little frightened of what the actual Mr. Mysterious is going to have going on when we meet him.

"He felt like...a possibility. Like maybe he and I might turn into something more. Like he and I were special." ~ Ivy

There was something instantly between these two and I couldn't get enough of it. Nolan and Ivy were on a dinner date and this particular scene was written so casually, it was as if I was sitting right there listening to the conversation in person. JA Huss has such a talent with writing witty banter and shows it off in every book she writes.

Mr. Romantic has a lot going on personally and professionally and Ivy needs to decide if she's all in. This guy has lots and lots of strings attached, while she is a young girl looking to finally live a little. I wouldn't want to be in her shoes for a second, as there is a lot of blind faith involved in every decision she has to make concerning him.

Holy crap is this book nail biting good! I kept looking at the percentage and freaking out because I just didn't know how things were going to come to a head. In pure JA Huss fashion there's a twist right along with a WTF and off the charts sex scenes. Off. The. Charts. As much as I liked Mr. Perfect, Mr. Romantic has taken the lead and I think it's because he has a bit of a darker side that I am fond of.

The book is well written from dual points of view and gives us more information on the incident from ten years ago. As well as more information on the other Misters. Man, each sounds better than the last. I can't wait to meet them all!

I need more stars. and I need more time to process this book. just. fuck. fuuuuccccckkkk. I'll write a real review when I've come down from this Huss high that I'm currently riding.

I'll ask again: why is this a 5-star rating system?! I need more motherfucking stars. This book. Gah. This book. It's been 3 days. THREE DAYS. I still have no words. I'm still pushing people to buy it. I. Just. Can't. Nope.

Nolan Delaney is not a man who likes to be fucked with.

Okay, let me see if I can organize the thoughts I had about this book. It's excellent, for starters. It's truly a Huss book by the way she makes you have a love/hate relationship with the male character. The sex is HOT. And the story, damn. I was on the edge of my seat. I never knew what was real and what was fantasy. This is where I give my warning: if you have a trigger, you should proceed with caution. There is a rape fantasy in this book. Key word: FANTASY. This is not rape. It is a FANTASY. This fantasy is laid out beforehand. You KNOW it is going to happen. If you cannot handle this type of thing, do not read it. If you want to try the book, it's excellent.

I never thought I'd want to read this type of story, but I know that I can't get enough of Huss's work so I picked this up without hesitation. I'm so glad I did. Move over Spencer Shrike, Mr. Romantic is in the house. And those of you who know me know how much I love Spencer.

Ivy, our heroine, just graduated and has been spending her summer working on her tan. With zero job prospects, she is surprised to find an invitation to interview with Nolan Delaney, otherwise known as the infamous Mr. Romantic.

Nolan has a lot going on. He's trying to open a resort in the middle of the desert and he's battling his inner demons in regards to the rape accusation that happened 10 years prior. When he meets Ivy, he believes she is a waste of his professional time. As for his personal time? Well, he could spare some personal time for her.

Well, little Miss Ivy Rockwell might deserve my A-game in order to break through her walls. But one thing is for certain. I will fuck this girl before I send her packing.

I loved watching these two play the game of cat and mouse. Ivy didn't just drop to her knees for Nolan. She made him work for it. She made him chase her. But when he caught her--when he finally caught her--it was beautiful. And I know you're asking me how in the hell it can be beautiful when I mentioned a rape fantasy, but you'll have to trust me. It is.

I want to feel the struggle but have permission at the same time.

In my mind, the struggle for Nolan isn't between himself and a woman; the struggle is within himself. Is he capable of rape? Does that Nolan from 10 years ago, who simply fantasized about rape--as in, a rape fantasy, a scene, consensual sex--with the wrong girl still exist? Can he stop when his partner says stop? He needs to push his boundaries. He needs to feel in control even when everything seems to be falling apart. The actions of that one girl 10 years ago remade Nolan Delaney into the ruthless man he is today. But Ivy sneaks inside. Ivy breaks a few of his walls.

I know what I'll be missing if Mr. Romantic ever gets away. Everything. I'll be missing everything.

If you are expecting the humor that you found in Mr. Perfect, then you should probably turn back now. Mr. Romantic is anything but funny. He is serious, he is incredibly smart, and he is off-the-charts sexy, but funny isn't really happening in this book. In true Huss fashion, she roped us in with the first and is now blowing our minds.

They always say yes. Even when they want to say no, they always say yes.

And if you need a bit of Mr. Mysterious to satisfy your Mister needs, here's one for you: "And they do not want to be my target. Whoever the fuck they are."
