Bloodrunner Dragon

Rate this book
**Brand new standalone series from T. S. Joyce. Don’t miss the thrilling first book in Harper’s Mountains.**

Harper Keller is a shifter on borrowed time. After failing to find her treasure, her inner dragon is desperate to find anything to connect with. When a plea for help comes through from an old flame, she puts her life on hold to track him down. But when she finds Wyatt, it’s obvious time has changed him. He isn’t the sweet and steady boy she grew up with anymore, but is now a dominant, rip-roaring grizzly shifter with alpha bloodlines and a mountain of secrets. He’s dug himself into a deep hole, and is surrounded by danger from all sides, and now Harper had a big decision to make. Save herself, or spend her final days saving the man who is laying claim to her heart.

Wyatt James is on a mission to save the girl he left behind. He isn’t the man everyone thought he would be, and has been hiding from the people he cares about, including Harper. If she sees him now, she won’t recognize the monster he’s become, but if Wyatt wants a shot at saving her, he has to make his move. Drawing an ailing Bloodrunner Dragon in close will attract the predators though, so he has to be ready for anything. And as the danger that shadows his life grows thicker, he will have to risk everything he’s built to protect the dragon he loves.

This made for a really sweet spin-off series. I delayed on reading it because I am not a big fan of the whole "young romance, then the couple spends years apart miserable without one another, only to reunite later" and this book certainly had that. The couple were apart for 10 years with no communication. And they mourned and missed one another daily. It went to the extreme that the heroine was physically ill due to their absence. They were, however, each intimate with other people during this time. This is usually a total deal breaker for me, but somehow the writer pulled it off. I guess because they had BOTH been intimate with other people. It was made clear that even though they were intimate with others that the hero and heroine both still longed and missed one another. The hero even went as far to call the other women he was with intimately the heroines name during sex. Ouch. I was just glad that they BOTH had encounters, and that those encounters were not talked about in great detail.
Other than that, I was really pleased with this new spinoff series. It was fun to read about some of the children from the previous series all grown up and doing their own thing. I'll definitely check out the others when they are released.

3 stars. For now. I might change the rating later.

20 years later.. ugh. For some reason, this didn’t have the same “feel” or whatever as the other books in the Damon’s Mountain series (that’s the reading order I follow) had for me. I felt like something was missing? Maybe it was because I was confused with some parts that hadn’t been mentioned in the other books, from what I can remember.. I don’t know. And there was a lot going on.

Also, I missed all the parents, Easton (Beaston), Clinton, Bash, Mason, Damon etc etc. Sure, we got some glimpses of them but it wasn’t the same.

I’m still gonna finish this series. Duh.

Loved this book with very angsty shifters. The H is a mess, hasn't lived lived up to expectations. The h is dying, and her final goal is to save him. It's funny and sad with so many flawed guys waiting to be saved by the love of their mates. Wonderful continuation of a great series.

I like the premise - second chance romance with an ailing FMC and a MMC who has been pining for years. Yes, please! But the execution was a bit…meh. The author is great at writing action scenes, and I could feel the emotions throughout the book. Her writing style was exactly what I enjoy. However, everything happened really fast, and there was just not enough groveling on the part of the MMC for my liking. She forgave him before she was really given a good reason to…and even when we find out why he left, it didn’t feel enough to me. I also felt this could have used an extra 100 pages to really flesh out the storyline. It needed more backstory and worldbuilding, which may be helped by reading the OG series first. Will give that series a try next.

The book should be fun if only I can understand wtf is happening but since I have never read T.S Joyce's paranormal books before it was like stumbling in the dark and I almost give up. Thank god there were finally some clues even they came so late so I continued and it's an ok read. I think what makes me unable to enjoy is the lack of continuity one minute they were sitting outside next they were making out against the tree, a new paragraph can help you know. The storyline is so so but the ending is satisfying. Overall Bloodrunner Dragon is for the writer's fan.

It was a little wonky. I have not read any other books in the series so that may have contributed to the odd feeling. It was a solid start for a paranormal series.

Where do I start. Lets go back to the beginning. Bears, love them or hate them. Before this enormous series of books I gave bear shifters a miss. I mean who could mate with a bear??? How wrong could I be. I bought the first book in the series, these books are based on the different Crews. So, the first Crew, first book. I liked the blurb I thought it sounded good, so settled down to read it, it was half way through that I realised that I liked the book, more than liked it, I loved it. These men were funny, hard working and they loved for life. I bought the rest of this set of books, then bought the rest. To throw a wobbly into the mix there is a Gorilla Shifter, I thought what, Gorilla, how does that work? Again, I read it, and what a surprise that turned out to be, what a good book that was, I wish there were more about Gorillas, to say that these are beasts in bed is an understatement. When the author released Harper's Mountain, i couldn't wait to buy it, id read all of her bear shifter books by then, a series of approximately 40+, maybe, one day, she will write about more bears. So, back to Harper, she was small, kind of sweet, fiery tempered, and housing a massive fire breathing dragon. Wow, her mate, yes you guessed it, Wyatt was a bear shifter. This book was different from the rest, Wyatt was a blood bank for a Vampire queen, a nasty vicious one. She took his blood and paid him cash. He was ashamed of what he had become and hid from his Crew high in the Mountains. Harper restored his soul, I'm not saying a lot about the book as i would prefer you to read it. So, after Harper came the others, different shifters, Owls, Ravens, so many shifters in these books make exciting reading. Each one has its own story to tell. The books are written fast, the words flow from the author like a fast running stream. The latest is Kane, the last Blackwing Dragon. This book was deep, the pain could be felt through the pages, you suffered with him. You cry for him, laugh and join in with the love that flows, his mate, Rowan, a massive fire breathing dragon, when these two clashed the Earth rocked. The one thing that stands out is that they all intertwine, all the characters from each book are related to each other in some way, they are separate books that can be read as standalone, but belong together in the series. Harper's Mountain is an offshoot from the Bears, but belong together, if that makes sense. Read the books, start at the beginning with the Bears, you will not be disappointed i assure you. If you love shifters, you will love these books. I personally recommend them. T S Joyce captures all the love, hate, camaraderie between these massive beasts and puts it into her books. Waiting for the next book. Cant wait. A******************************** Fabulous.

Loved this one! This is the first book in the Harper's Mountain mini-series from TS Joyce. Yes, it is a spin-off (for those who care) from a previous series, but you should have no trouble following along as I did with no worries. I adored Harper. She's strong, selfless, and knows what she wants, and what she wants is the man who grew up alongside her back in the Gray Back crew - Wyatt. And why is this mini series called HARPER'S MOUNTAIN? Well, you'll just have to read this and find out. (evil grin)

Boring as hell. Characters were whiners, plot non existing. Plus I hate the trope "I couldn't live without him for years". You know life is hard, but we do survive, above all a breakup.

T.S. Joyce was one of my first paranormal authors I have read.
"Saw Bears" was my first series from her and I found a lot of fun, humor and love in these books.
Most of T.S. books are between the 4 and 5 stars for me.
I gave "Bloodrunner Dragon" a 4.5 star (rounded it up for Goodreads to a 5).

"from the day we're born, we're dying. That's the beauty of mortality. Every moment means something big because they are numbered."

I was nervous to read about the shifter kids all grown up because I was afraid I wouldn't love them as much as the original shifter crew. I had nothing to be worried about though, I loved them so much. I wasn't prepared for all the feels and emotions of Wyatt and Harper's story. It's full of heartache, struggle and second chances.

"The only way to tether a soul to another living being was if they did it together."

"Loyal Harper, one of the last Bloodrunner Dragons, and she'd seen right through his grit and chosen him."

Reviewed at Shifter Haven

We’ve come full circle now. The cute, adorable children of the couples from the connected series in Damon’s Mountains have grown up and now are living their lives away from the mountains and crews of their homes. I don’t feel it’s absolutely necessary to have read Saw Bears – Fire Bears – Grey Back Bears – Boarlander Bears (the lightly connecting series that make up Damon’s Mountains) to enjoy this new spin-off. Yet, having declared that, you would get a better understanding of the events that lead to Harper’s Mountains and the world that shifters now live in… plus they are some really good, entertaining stories.

It’s about twenty years from the last time we saw Harper and Wyatt as children. Much has happened in their world since their birth. Shifters have come out to the world with varying results. They’ve fought crazed, power hungry madmen and our government. They, and their allies have fought against hatred and fear, finally or eventually earning their own shifter rights to live freely without shackles in the world community. Unfortunately, what the bear shifters won for themselves and their families, they also won for other shifters who had remained hidden. Vampires and wolf shifters, to name just two, have also earned rights… and these guys do not play nice, at all. Yet, they are equally protected as the bear shifters.

Harper and Wyatt not only grew up together under the watchful eyes of their parents and the other members of the crews, they also fell in love and might have planned a future together if youth and other factors had not happened. The result of tragedy had Wyatt leaving Damon’s Mountains and Harper heartbroken.

Almost a decade later, Wyatt has found himself in the pit of hell – just about literally. In order to help him raise the money he needs to buy a perfect plot of land in the mountains he has chained himself to a very powerful vampire. In his madness or desperation he sends out a message to the woman he’s never stopped loving for help or perhaps forgiveness, never expecting either.

Harper’s dragon has never found it’s treasure. The one thing that dragons defend above all else, the one thing that keeps their focus, their need to protect and themselves alive. She had thought she’d found her treasure – but that proved untrue. Now heeding Wyatt’s call for help, she has enlisted the help of some of their other childhood friends to launch a rescue of the man she never could stop loving.

Bloodrunner Dragon has built a wonderful future world for these characters to live in. Rich with detail, a different type of enemy to fight and the creation of a unique crew to defend and embrace. Wyatt really messed up. Not only in the present, but the past as well. He has never forgotten or forgiven himself for the pain he brought to Harper. We find an alpha male who has lost himself and appears weak in many respects. Wyatt has to pull himself together again – and with the help of Harper and his friends that finally seems to be happening.

Harper is a strong woman, not only naturally but from the events she has lived through. She just might have finally found her treasure, but there are battles to wage and a love to save before she can lay claim to that treasure. If you’ve read the other series be on the lookout for a clever inclusion of “1010”.

I’m not going into the story for I feel that this is one you should read for yourself. Expect to find some seriously sexy times, fierce guardians and friends, mistakes being rectified, some cameo visits from old friends and a brand new crew created. Harper and Wyatt’s love has endured so much, now their future has possibilities. If you love shifter romance then this spin-off of Damon’s Mountains should be on your reading radar. It is well worth your time.

(Oh, don’t be fooled by the cover, although she is there if you look for her – this is very much Harper and her dragon’s story as well as Wyatt’s and his bear.)

The last we knew of Harper, Weston, Ryder, Wyatt and Aaron, they were children, barely more than babies. Much beloved by all the Shifters of Damon’s Mountain, they were raised together with all the care and love any child could want.

Now, they are all in their mid to late twenties, all much different than we last knew them. Harper, the Bloodrunner daughter of Bruiser the Bear and Diem, daughter of Damon Daye, the last Immortal Dragon, claimed Wyatt for her own as a child. Yet, when disaster happened, instead of hanging around and holding things together, Wyatt left. Left Harper alone to face life without him. Left her to face The Unrest – the time of sickness leading up to her death. But when Wyatt drunk texts Harper ten years later, she pulls together their old gang and flies to his rescue. But will it cost Harper, the last Bloodrunner Dragon, her life even sooner than the Unrest?

This is a whole new time, a time where all shifters have rights – but it also means that vampires have rights as well. Something that they believe gives them the right to take and drink from whomever they wish. It is a tough fight, but with their friends at their backs, will Harper and Wyatt be able to save Harper’s life, and start afresh on Harper’s Mountains? And what of their friends, the children of Damon’s Mountain?

It’s a pleasure, coming back to the Damon’s Mountain world, set in a new place and with the grown children. We only get a short phone conversation with Bash and Bruiser, but I look forward to seeing if the old gang comes to visit as the series goes forward.

NOTE: Spoilery stuff follows. Stop here if you don't want it!

Someone griped about how angsty they all were, where I didn't see that at all. Yes, they are pissed at Wyatt - they deserve to be. He left and took their love for him, and Harper's, and left Harper dying without him. Yes, there is drama. It would be boring as hell without it. But these kids have every reason in the world to be pissed at Wyatt. That doesn't make them "angsty" that makes them real. We aren't really shown who they are at this time, what time has made them. We will, in the upcoming stories, and I look forward to that. As for your comment that "mates don't have physical relationships with other people?" The whole "undying mate" thing is MUCH more unrealistic than the fact that these are written as real people with real issues and real heartbreak. Harper did her best to find another treasure in order to stay alive. Denigrating that with some silly notion demeans the reality (within a supernatural world) of Ms. Joyce writing real stories with real human emotions.

Don't get me wrong. I didn't really care for Wyatt's character. I found him weak - not in her writing, but inside himself, and I give Ms. Joyce huge Kudos for writing 'alpha' characters who wasn't all brawny, brainy, perfect. Her Damon's Mountain characters definitely weren't perfect - and I greatly doubt the kids will be either. Heck - look who their parents are!

I wouldn't choose him for myself. But Harper's dragon did. She saw the good - even thought I pretty much wanted to throw him over a cliff! He was an idiot, but he is her idiot. But then, aren't so many men out there real, actual idiots that women have to teach to pull up their lives by their bootstraps? Sometimes it requires a light touch. Sometimes they have to whack the bastards over the head with a 2x4 in order to get their attention. She simply had to pull out a semi trailer and bop this dumbass alpha over the head! ;-)

DAMON’S MOUNTAINS SERIES REVIEW

I wasn’t planning on reviewing these books at all, but given the fact that I’ve been completely OBSESSED with them for the past month, it feels wrong not to write something. So in the end I decided to write a general series-wide review that I’ll put up on each book because that’s how much fun I’ve had reading these.

Let’s do this.

OKAY listen. These books are straight up trash. They are. Romance drama trash to the max. But there’s no denying how freaking entertaining these things are. They’re hilariously funny, extremely cute, filled with action (some more than others), and packed with grade-A soap opera drama. Some of the novels are better than others, but if you need to go brainless for a while and just read something fun, these are the books you need.

All the characters are out-of-this world awesome, but the real thing that sets this series apart is the world building. Joyce has created such an elaborately rich universe with all these characters and I am 100% here for it. I love love love how everything overlaps and that we get to see all of our favorite characters even long after their books are done.

To help keep everyone straight, I even created a family tree spreadsheet like a NERD (Willa would be so proud) which you can view here. Just beware of spoilers.

Nerd alert!

FINAL WORD

These books are insane trash and I’ve loved every second. If you’re needing some laughs and romance, look no farther my friends. It’s worth the Amazon Kindle Unlimited free trial just to get your hands on these.

I love it when a series continues with the kids grown up, but I sort of wished that we could have gotten a bridge book that showed them a bit as they grew up.

Wyatt was a hot mess at the start of this one, I really had a hard time warming up to him, especially when I learned the past he had with Harper. I felt like he left her when she needed him most. A big reason why I would have liked a bridge book was to see the kids bond, to see why all of them would have dropped everything when called for help despite not talking for years. I also wished that we could have seen more of how the world adjusted to shifters as that was the drama in many of the last books.

I liked Harper, thought she was strong for she went through and for going after Wyatt when he reached out for help. I did find it a bit odd that all of a sudden there were vampires and werewolves and they seemed to be a big deal. Was really surprised that Wyatt was in trouble with both groups, even if his reason for being involved with the vampires could have been a good one.

I liked how this one ended, liked that the kids are together again with their own crew and a great Alpha.

This was an ok start to a series. I really felt like I was missing a whole lot of info even though the author did scatter some of the info like bread crumbs. Still it wasn't enjoy to know completely what had happened in the past between Harper and Wyatt. It still isn't 100% clear. There were also shifting scenes in which we were heading in one direction and then made a sudden turn and I got confused with this. The book ended, but the conflict wasn't completely resolved, they said that they still had enemies out there and the author couldn't resolve that? It left it open like their HEA might not go all the way IDK. However knowing the series is called "Harper's Mountain" then I think that it would be slightly more acceptable that the story was left there, I just didn't like the how of it. The book was ok in terms of relationship, there were some deeper moments but I didn't really feel their emotions or their love the whole time. I just felt the book could be improved, not to say it was bad just a bit disjointed. The concept was good.

Surprising! Considering its length, this story was surprisingly complex with interesting characters and a satisfying amount of sexy times. ;)

Harper was an awesome heroine! Nice to see a female become an alpha, even with a dominant bear as a mate. Despite the cover that focuses on Wyatt and his bear, the book was really about Harper (and her dragon) and her strength, faith in Wyatt, and her ability to forgive.

I loved the scene at the end of the book with all of them on the cliffs, a beautiful coming together for all of them.

"Wyatt punched in the words he'd wanted to say to her for the last ten years.
I miss you. I miss us. I miss who I was when I was with you.
It's getting cold outside.

*****4.5 STARS*****

I discovered T.S. Joyce through Kindle Unlimited, and I am really glad I did. Bloodrunner Dragon is the first book in the Harper's Mountains Series. I really enjoyed this series they may not feel like full length stories because they read really fast, but the flow feels natural. The first book has a backstory where the hero and heroine have a previous relationship. It is like an introduction to the setting and all the secondary characters, whom I just love, will get their own stories. The series is a standalone, but makes references to other series characters. The dynamics of this group are just fantastic and what I think I love the most. I recommend reading them all.

Angst!

This book was pretty good but for me had to much angst. This book was a 2nd chance at love book as the mains characters had a past together before one of them left.

Wyatt was a bear shifter but he doesn't shift much of at all until the end of the book. He was trying to make a life for himself in the Smokie Mountains by hauling gems from a mine & letting a female vampire drink his blood but 1night it wasn't enough & he sent his old flame a text that brought her to him.

Harper is a dragon who has lost part of her treasure & is still looking for the other part. She comes to help out Wyatt & finds all of her treasure; but, you'll have to read the book to find out what it is.

I'm giving this a one star MEH. It's not that I didn't like it per se, it's just that you have a kick-ass dragon shifter, hot dudes, more shifters, vampires and a hole lot of bad-assery and this lady just did nothing with it!!!!! The story was epically lame! I'm thinking the same ingredients but written by Sarah J Maas or JL Armentrout and things could get out of proportions with epicness.
I though that nothing could go wrong with so many awesome things in it, but then again if you just throw them in and do nothing with them but tell some lame ass story, well then, nothing is going to get accomplished, isn't it?

Bloodrunner is our Harper, Wyatt and....
Who is Harper? Wyatt? The second generation of our Lumberjack. Lumberjacks who?
Those guys/girls were about strong personalities with some trauma.

Did I get those in this book? Another books like those? Not at all! And I liked it.
Bloodrunner is a new era, a new story, a new set of stories which I don't know the theme yet.
Something like 2nd chance? About differences? Diversity and also surprises and values?
Yep, this first book was for me about all that. And old and new characters.

Great romance. At first, I thought the kids from earlier shifter series had not turned out well, but I really liked everything and understood by the end of the story. Our dragon heroine is really cool, and learning about her difficulties as a dragon was great. I really liked the hero when he got it together about half-way through the story.
