Tough Love #2

The Talented Mr. Rivers

Rate this book
HelenKay Dimon’s suspenseful, provocative series of double agents and dark desire continues with a novel featuring two men bound by a dangerous job—and by the cravings they feel for each other.

As the son of an international crime lord, Will Rivers only inherited one thing after his father died: trouble. The Pentasus organization deals in kidnapping and murder, and Will wants no part of the power grab that’s tearing leadership apart. But the only way he’ll be able to escape is with some help from his former bodyguard, Hunter Cain, whose sculpted body and brooding looks keep Will awake at night. Somehow, Hunter has resisted the tension between them . . . until, suddenly, he gives in.

As a German intelligence officer working deep undercover, Hunter has a very good reason to keep Will in the dark about his identity and his intentions. Although the sex is hot, Hunter’s true feelings are a growing liability. Now the only way to save Will from his old life is to push him deeper into danger. But when two strong men are each determined to protect the other, the heat isn’t just combustible—it’s a firestorm.

If you read book 1, you'll remember the youngest Rivers sibling, Will, and his bodyguard (*whispers* also undercover German intelligence agent), Hunter.

Hunter is the very definition of a German god: tall, blonde, unmovable. He and Will have been eye-fucking each other for months, and it all comes to a head *ahem* (pun not intended, I swear) when Hunter tracks down Will at a night club in Paris.

Hunter can't forget Will, and the obsession is mutual. Will, skirting the edges of his family's horrific undercover business, doesn't know whom to trust, but he knows he can't stay away from Hunter.

Oh, Will tries, but the sex is so damn hot . . . you can't blame the man for wanting, NEEDING, more.

I would NOT recommend this book as a standalone. The suspense plot continues from book 1. Peter, Will's older brother, is still on the loose, as is a dangerous arms dealer, with ties to Will's sister, Stacia, who wants to use Will as a pawn to gain control of Pentasus. Will has to play them both before they play him.

He's reluctant at first, but Seth can be very convincing, so despite Hunter's objections (he wants to protect Will at all costs), Will agrees to be the target.

Like book 1, The Talented Mr. Rivers is an exciting read, with plenty of steam and FEELZ as both men let down their guard and realize that love can be the most dangerous thing of all. There is a bit of hurt/comfort and the requisite shoot-em-up scene (not quite as intense as the explosives in book 1, but certainly not boring).

Zach and Fisher, the MCs from book 1, are very present in the story, and Seth is as awesome as ever (his story is next!).

The suspense plot is wrapped up, and the ending is a tentative HEA for the MCs. (I say tentative because the men have gone through serious trauma and clearly have a lot to overcome, but they are very much committed to staying together.)

I'm really liking this series! On to book 3.

The second book in the ”Tough Love” series of HelenKay Dimon is undoubtedly much faster-paced and thrilling than the first book. 😍 I heard a lot from my friends about having to struggle with the MC Fisher’s attitude in the first book ”Mr. and Mr. Smith” but lucky for us that both MCs from this book has no such attitude issues. This book picked up right from where the first book ended and includes all our favorite MCs and side characters from book1. 😉

Will Rivers, the youngest son of the notorious Rivers family, and an heir to the infamous Pentasus organization. No matter how much Will tries to escape from the grasp of his family, he wasn’t able to run away fast enough from getting entangled into his family business. All he wants is a quiet life without ever getting involved in that ruthless criminal world. Now, his family estate outside of London was burned down, both his father and sister are dead and his family’s enemies and CIA are on his tail for the information on Pentasus. And despite everything, he just can’t seem to be able to forget and stay away his gorgeous bodyguard hunter. 😉 There’s no choice but to involve in the play of this power game to truly escape from everything once and for all. 😱

Hunter, a German intelligence officer, who is working as a deep-undercover mole in the Pentasus organization. When he got the assignment to look after the youngest of Rivers when the brat came back from America, he was sure that brat was the same as his ruthless siblings. After all, the blood running in his body is of Rivers. But he soon realized that the man he’s guarding is an innocent, gullible and geeky hottie who seems to have no idea about his family’s disreputable and illegal dealings. 😌 And a desire he has never known before ignited his body and soul because of the youngest Rivers who’s supposed to be his enemy. 🔥

Will and Hunter had been eye-fucking each other months before the current chaos of Pentasus power battle. Will is now on the run and doesn’t have any idea about whom to trust. His older brother either wants to kill him or works together with him. And a notorious arms-dealer who worked together with his late sister is trying to manipulate him. And to top everything off, CIA and other intelligence agencies around the world are hunting his ass down to get more info out of him. 😁 So when his smoking-hot bodyguard reappeared a week later after the hellish chaos of his sister’s death and losing everything, Will decided to trust his guts and rely on Hunter for a chance of survival and escape from everything. Duty has always come first in Hunter’s life and he had done many unthinkable things for the name of his government and for the good of humankind. But for the first time in his life, he realized that duty and honor don’t mean much anymore to him as before. Will became his priority and his everything even before he realized himself. ❤️ Now they both have to work together and trust each other to get a chance at happiness. 😌

I think this book is more coherent and well-written than the first book. MCs are not separated most of the time. After a few pages in the very beginning of the book, they were together all the time through thick and thin despite the mistrusts and lies. I love that we get the glimpses of the main couple, Fisher and Zach, and enigmatic side character Seth in this one. The UST between Will and Hunter was simply delicious. That sizzling UST makes it that much tastier when we actually get to these two’s mating. 😍 It was primal, raw, hot and oh-so-forbiddenly-sexy! 🔥 Loved every second of it. 💋 The chemistry between Will and Hunter is natural, addicting and thrilling and it carried on until the very end of the book. 👏 It was nice to see Will’s older brother, Peter, isn’t all evil in the end. Hunter and Will really had to go through a lot to get their happy ending and it was lovely to see them to get their much deserved HEA in the end despite everything. 😊 The epilogue was lovely and sweet. 😍 I can’t wait to read the third book of this delicious series because I like Seth. I hope this series won’t stop with just three books and HelenKay Dimon will write more in the future. 😌

Favorite excerpts from the novel: 💗💜💗

Hunter had a look that said he’d be dirty in bed. Demanding and damn good.

“So, now you’re in charge?” Fine, they’d go with that. “Damn right.” “Of my protection?” Heat flashed through Hunter again. “Of everything. Now let’s go.”

Their mouths met. There was nothing slow or sweet about this kiss. They devoured each other. Teeth against teeth. Tongue sliding over tongue. It was feral and raw, their lips crossing and mouths open. When they lifted their heads they were both out of breath. Will could feel the thunder of his heartbeat in his ears. It matched the thump of Hunter’s under his hand.

“This time I fuck you.” “You like when I’m in charge.” “You’re not stupid enough to think the person on top is always the one in control, right?”

Right as Will closed his eyes he heard it. Low, almost a grumble, but the words were clear. So was the way Hunter’s hand moved to cover one of Will’s. “You’re mine.” Will waited a few more minutes to answer. Until Hunter’s breathing evened out. “Yes, I am.”

“The undercover agent and the criminal dynasty heir. Quite the romance.”

“Tell me what you need.” “You,” Will said in a raspy voice. Hunter pulled his head back, not letting Will go in for another kiss just yet. “Say it again.” “Only you.” Will shook his head. “There’s no one else.”

“Yeah, you’re more than a job. The worry is that you’re everything. Do you understand what I’m telling you? Fucking everything.”

The Talented Mr. Rivers is a fast-paced read, full of suspense, deception, intrigue and plenty of hot man-on-man loving.

It is definitely not a standalone read and should be read as part of the (newly titled) Tough Love series. Almost all of the players here - primary and secondary characters alike - were all solidly introduced in the first story (Mr. and Mr. Smith). It was great to have the gang all back, working together to bring down the Rivers family crime dynasty - a murderous organisation by the name of Pentasus.

Tall, blonde and brooding, Hunter Cain is an undercover German BND agent working for the Rivers family. In the first story he came across as narrow-mindedly determined and ruthless in his approach to ending Pentasus at all costs. He works best alone and prides himself on putting the job first; he has a strict no attachments policy which has worked for him for years. Yet, when Hunter meets Will Rivers - the youngest of the Rivers clan and seemingly uninvolved in all of this murky Pentasus business - Hunter struggles to keep on mission and stay unattached.

Will Rivers has been raised in a life of privilege, surrounded by the family from hell. A little murder among family is common place with the Rivers clan, and although innocent of any personal wrongdoings, Will has been (however vaguely) aware of his families more shady business dealings for years, yet, he has stood by idly and done nothing to stop them. But who can blame him? It's a matter of personal survival - what he pretends not to know can't kill him. Or at least, that's his hope.

In the aftermath of the action packed events at the end of Mr. and Mr. Smith, Will has been separated from Hunter (his bodyguard at the time) and any surviving family members - family who may or may not be out to kill Will in order to gain full control of the vast Rivers family titles. He doesn't know who to trust, and although Hunter is among those to be weary of, Will still makes it easy for Hunter to find him in hiding.

When Hunter finds Will they can no longer deny their palpable chemistry and they quickly surrender to an attraction that has been building for months. They fiercely crave one another (physically and even emotionally - although Hunter denies the latter), but neither are completely sure if they can trust one another.

When outside forces make themselves known, both men must make some pretty hefty decisions which will impact not only their growing relationship but their possible chances of survival. Hunter must decide if Will is worth risking the successful outcome of his mission and Will needs to finally choose a side in this brutal war of power.

I enjoyed this story even more than its predecessor and I think that had a lot to do with the players involved. I really liked broody Hunter and clever Will. Their chemistry was combustible, in and out of bed. I found this story to be better paced than Mr. and Mr. Smith, which I felt went a bit slow in the middle. I was engaged from start to finish and was fully engrossed in all the action that was afoot - this series would make for some kick ass movies, that's for sure!

This was a thoroughly enjoyable read and I'm looking forward to any further releases within the series. My fingers are crossed that we get Seth's story next!

I have to say that this book was a surprise. While I was expecting a typical M/M hook up, the author gave us a suspenseful mafia style read with plenty of heated action between the two guys and loads of action between the rest of the guys.

With an interesting storyline, we are thrust into the world of undercover agents and the mafia wheeling and dealing. With surprising characters in Will and Hunter, the thrills and stress of the surroundings and situations caused plenty of of opportunity for some hot and sexy scenes.

One thing that was a bit odd was that I never felt overly connected to one character or another. While I enjoyed the read, the fact is that some events did not ring true to life. I know that there would be no affection during a standoff and a true agent would not be bearing his soul while on the job.

Something was missing and I felt a disconnect between me and the characters. This book was entertaining but for me it was just okay.

I read Mr. and Mr. Smith, the first book in the "End of the Line" series and LOVED the MCs and the beginning and ending of the book. The middle is a long boring sequence where nothing happens, other than nefarious plotting and planning and lots of hot man sex. Then HelenKay Dimon brings it with a truly gripping ending.

Fast forward to The Talented Mr. Rivers, and the beginning of the book held my interest. The middle is a long boring sequence where nothing much happens, other than nefarious plotting and planning and lots of hot man sex. But, the ending seemed overly convoluted IMHO.

We briefly met Will - the youngest brother in the psychotic Rivers family, toward the end of Mr. and Mr. Smith. Will and his bodyguard Hunter are very attracted to one another, although neither man trusts the other. Smart move, since Hunter is deep undercover for the BND and has been working with the CIA to bring down Pentasus, the family criminal enterprise. Will's involvement with the family business seems negligible but after the death of his sister Stacia and his brother Peter's disappearance, there are other players in the game who think Will is getting ready to run Pentasus.

But once Hunter brings Will to a CIA safe house ... the plot seemed to falter. There is an extended period of plotting with Zach and Fischer from Mr. and Mr. Smith and plenty of smokin' hot sex between Will and Hunter, but honestly at times I just wanted to slap Hunter around for being such an asshat about relationships. Communication is a wonderful thing - use your words rather than suffer in silence and doubt. Aarrgghh.

By the time the final showdown rolled around, it felt almost anti-climatic to me. Will and Hunter get their HEA although I'm left to wonder if the two really have much in common in order to build a successful long-term relationship.

I received an ARC from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Starting where Mr. and Mr. Smith left off, this wastes no time in propelling the story forward.

Hunter Cain. Dutiful agent to the core, carrying out missions efficiently and ruthlessly, where nothing gets in the way of justice. He’s been tasked to gather intel and take down the crime syndicate Pentasus, which is brutally run by the Rivers family. He’ll use any means possible, even if it involves the (innocent?) youngest son of the family. Posing as Will’s bodyguard, his attraction to the man clouds his judgement for the first time ever.

Will Rivers. Born to a family legacy he wants nothing to do with, but nonetheless, finds himself smack dab in the middle of a power grab. He’s drawn to the enigmatic Hunter, but doesn’t know if he can trust him. That doesn’t mean he’ll stop lusting after him, nor hoping for more.

Since book 1, these two have been dancing around each other for months, and the sexual tension is taut with anticipation. They come together explosively and once started, can’t stop. However, distrust, manipulation, lies - all run rampant. Multiple players are at work, where betrayal and double crosses are inevitable. Will Hunter and Will let down their defenses long enough to work together to achieve their goals, and hopefully come out alive?

If you like romance with action, suspense, and drama, then this is for you. Points always go towards a stoic, tough alpha brought to his knees (figuratively and yes, literally) by the one person he realizes he can’t live without. Here’s hoping for a third installment!

This talented author brings us another edge-of-your-seat, action packed crime novel. She calls herself a romance writer. This is the second book I've read of hers. There's no doubt there is romance in this series, but there is so much more to the plot.

We meet a group of CIA operatives and a BND agent and traipse through some high octane undercover work with them. It's exciting and scary and fun joining these guys on their adventures. They're tough and snarky and smart. Their dry sense of humor lights up their dialogue and their testosterone preening makes me laugh out loud.

I've been doing a happy dance since I read the first book in this series. I enjoy reading m/m romance but I enjoy a good story even more. And that's what Ms. Dimon delivers, a damn good story with a little m/m romance thrown in to sweeten the pot.

Well plotted, well written, well edited, what more can you ask for? I'll be closely following this series waiting for the next installment. While each book can be considered stand-alone in that it features a different couple, I think you get a bigger impact if you read book 1 before this one so you have the full back story.

This started out so well.
I loved the scenario of Hunter, the undercover agent, in love with Will, the son of a ruthless crime dynasty and potential heir to their business and fortune. The UST between the MCs was simmering away deliciously, the scope for hurt and anguish due to their situation was pretty epic.
Because how is Will going to react to Hunter when he finds out his true identity, and that Hunter played a major role in the downfall of his family? How will the budding feelings between the two men survive all the dealings and intrigue going on around them?

Well, let me tell you. When the moment of revelation came (relatively soon, btw), it puffed into thin air and disintegrated into tiny flecks of arguments, and a little bit of grumbling and huffiness, but that was it. What happened?! After the build up for the first part, the middle of the book felt flat and a bit all over the place and ...

yes, there is my biggest niggle:
Imo Hunter and Fisher (from book 1) seem too much alike: physically pristine and strong, with a habit of scowling and acting moodily, real problems with communicating their feelings ... - they are just slight variations on the same idea of character.
And there are similarities between Zach (from book 1) and Will, too: very bright, a little nerdy, but also very capable and physically able.

(Ok yes, I dig the glasses, too)

I'm not sure if I lost the plot or if the plot lost me. But I ended up scratching my head. I simply could not see a proper red line in the development of Hunter and Will' relationship in the second part of the book.

However, saying that, I did enjoy The Talented Mr.Rivers for its entertainment value. The guys in the team are full of testosterone, and their antics and way of communicating made me grin. I enjoyed reconnecting with Fisher and Zach. I just felt this could have been a little bit more....

(And who are these two guys on the cover? Maybe one could fit Will's description, but Hunter looks nothing like that!)

So, I picked this up right after I finished the first book in the series. No worries, it can stand alone, I think. Personally, I just enjoy reading in sequence as it adds to the overall experience of the series. And hmmm, this did pick up right where the first book ended, so maybe not...

Hunter was Will's bodyguard until that thing with his family all went amok. Now Will's in hiding. There was a pull between them right from the start but given Hunter's job, he did his best to not act on it until he couldn't anymore. Meanwhile, sh!t's about to go down and Hunter's not sure if he can protect Will his way. Will felt he can hold up on his own so what then?

I enjoyed the simmering tension between these 2; that push-pull, especially coming from Hunter, with Will unsettling his thoughts and Hunter losing the will to fight off his feelings. There was no doubt that Hunter can kick a$$, but it was exciting to see Will display his fighting skills in an understated manner. Given Will's history, people tend to underestimate him. So it was fun to read the surprise he elicits from the people he worked with. What's even more fun to read are the thoughts behind it, to see the kick-a$$ Will come out to protect Hunter.

If you've read the first one like I did, you'll be pleased to see familiar names. Again, gotta give a shout out to Seth. That dude just seem to steal the scene for me whenever he's around. He gets his turn in the 3rd book. Can't wait!

Overall, really enjoyed this! It's got action, suspense, honest emotions, and of course, can't forget the heat:D

This book was not a complete win for me.
It was entertaining enough that I finished it but I didn't liked it.
The sex was ok. The story was a bit messy though, All of a sudden big characters were introduced and they played a big part when they weren't even mentioned in the first book.
Hunter and Will's love was believable I guess but I just wasn't invested, I just wanted to know how everything's gonna be wrapped up.

Oh oh! And there was that other character (i forgot his name dammit) it was clearly mentioned in book 1 that he was straight and now all of sudden he was dropping hints that he might be bi.. So I guess more books are coming.

*I recommend reading book one before reading this 2nd installment.*

The Talented Mr. Rivers is a complete 180 in comparison to its predecessor. Everything book 1 lacked is present and accounted for in this sequel and I had a blast reading about Will and Hunter as a result.

To recap:

Book one ended with the demise of Will’s sister, the family home going up in flames and a power vacuum that needs to be refilled. These are the questions that drive the mission (& spy angle of the story). It’s written well and I enjoyed it but I was more enamored with is the sexual tension-filled relationship between Will and Hunter, the German Intelligence Officer who infiltrates the Rivers organization in order to bring it down but instead falls in love with his target.

At the end of the day, Hunter has a job to do and he’s on board to see it through.. as long as Will isn’t compromised in the process. I love this about Hunter! This is how grown-ups doing their jobs are supposed to act. Zach and Fischer should take note ( MC's in book 1). Hunter and Will, put aside their personal issues and work together to get the mission done, despite not knowing what Will's fate will be after the fact. The romance between Will and Hunter is the primary focus in this sequel and though the spy stuff is secondary, whenever it’s reintroduced it propels the story forward as opposed to interrupting the flow or coming across as filler.

I couldn't stop smiling as I read. I honestly couldn't believe how much better this second book is in comparison to book one. There’s more depth to this story. The MC's are more realistic. Rich. Complex. Believable. I was actually hesitant to read this follow-up but I’m so glad I bit the bullet and did because Mr. Rivers was a joyous wonderful read! Highly recommended!

3.5 and rounded up due to Amazon rating system. Well, it was a little confusing at times, as I tried to figure out what everybody had done, were doing, planned to do... Hunter and Will had been around each other for a while before the night Fisher and the CIA blew up the house in the last book. Hunter has tracked Will down and now they’re in a safe house, with unexpected neighbors and unwanted visitors. The story started strong, with action scenes that end up with Hunter, Will and a handy wall to hold them both up. Unfortunately, it then slowed way down for a large part of the book. It wasn’t boring, but it was largely dialogue, planning, meetings and a few more sex scenes that really weren’t that hot. Foreplay people, foreplay!

The time was also filled with Hunter and Will getting to know each other and judging the level of trust they had in each other. Hunter had a lot of self-questioning to do, since he wasn’t following orders by staying with Will. It’s not exactly romance but there’s a fair amount of emotion between them. It’s just included as part of clearing up Pentasus and exactly what Will’s part in that would be. I like it because it’s an action thriller, even though it wasn’t always that thrilling. Book one was better in some ways and I’m hoping for more from book three.

This is the second book in a series, and is probably best enjoyed when read in order. This is M/M romantic suspense series, and each book features a new couple, but most are CIA-type agents.

Will Rivers is the youngest child in his nefarious crime family. In the first book we learned that his family ran Pentasus, a corporation known for human trafficking and murder-for-hire. The situation resulted in a huge fire-fight on the Rivers' estate and an explosion that killed Will's ailing father and murderous sister. Will's not sure if his brother escaped, but the first person who finds him hiding in Paris is his bodyguard, Hunter.

Hunter is a deep-cover agent from Germany's secret police. He discovered Pentasus, its activities, and the principals--the Rivers family--but Will was the sheltered bookish half-sibling who'd spent the past ten years in the US in college and grad school. He'd only returned to England to attend at his father's death bed. Hunter was immediately drawn to nerd-chic Will and the two months he spent watching him, gathering intel for the CIA co-op, were fraught with mutual attraction. They never stepped past the boundaries: Will was afraid any liaison would make him weak in front of his feuding siblings, and Hunter wasn't sure he could stomach any physical contact with Will if he was directly involved in Pentasus.

Now, however, Will claims he wants nothing to do with Pentasus or his tainted legacy. That doesn't mean he's free to go. No, there are factions who are pushing Will to take up his family's mantle--if only as a figurehead. There's millions at stake, and Will's not sure which side Hunter is on...until the CIA comes a-callin'.

I liked this one better than the first book in this series. Will and Hunter have had a long time of close interaction for a slow burn to develop. We already knew there was something going on in the first book, so stepping in at their beginning is really easy. Also, we know that Will's a decent guy from the start. Hunter doesn't want to fall for him and isn't convinced Will's completely innocent, but the more they battle to gain Will's freedom, the more Hunter learns he can't step back. It's a fast-paced, romantic thriller with very high stakes. There are lots of room for double and triple-crosses, but the heart of the story is two solitary men finding solace and support. We get a return of deep-cover CIA agents Fisher and Alex, from the first book, as well as Seth who takes a front-stage role here--so I expect he'll be the focus of another/the next book in this series, if it continues.

Expect bullets, backstabbing, back-biting, big men posturing, late night heart-to-hearts, love and sexytimes. And an HEA.

So this is a continuation of the story arc from Mr. and Mr. Smith. We met Hunter and Will in book 1 and we know there's some chemistry there and this picks up a couple weeks after that book ends. I have to say I liked this one a little more than the first one because we get to see the relationship bloom. Hunter was pretty tormented with his feelings and it was fun seeing him work through his issues. This had lots of action and we get to see the other guys from the previous book. Seth was hilarious and I pray to god he gets his own book. I'm totally diggin this series and I can't wait for more.

I loved Mr. & Mr. Smith the first book of this series that's why i was so happy and excited for Hunter and Will story.

This book didn't disappointed me, although i enjoyed Fisher & Zach more(because Fisher's intensity & possessiveness and the banter with Nathan & Seth was epic) Hunter and Will's chemistry was there so it was intense. i loved the sex scenes( the switch), i liked the suspense and the action so much.

Can't wait for the next book of this series. i loved to read Seth or Nathan story.

When The Talented Mr, Rivers became available to review it was a no-brainer for me : I had to read it. In this second book of the End Of The Line series, we are now following Hunter Cain and Will Rivers. Even though this book is starting with the ending scene of the first book, it can be read as a standalone. But do you a favor, read both of the books, you will have twice the fun.

All that I loved in the first book (Mr. and Mr. Smith) is back in there with a little bonus: a lot of steamy scenes. This is a story that is going full throttle with a lot of action scenes and some twisted villains. Trust is at the heart of this book. How can we know who we can trust and are we willing to open our heart and see what can happen? Those are the questions that are explored throughout this story.

Hunter Cain is not an emotional man. He is working for the German intelligence Agency (BN) and always followed the rules. He has a job to do and it is to make sure that Pentasus won’t be able to continue its criminal endeavors. Pentasus is a family business and its actions are reaching far into the criminal world. The Rivers were battling together to know who will be the new boss of Pentasus. With Stacia’s death, that is only leaving Peter and Will in the course. Will Rivers is saying that he does not want anything to do with the family business. Can he be trusted? That is the question that is always on Hunter main. There is an astounding physical attraction between him and Will, and since Hunter is working undercover he won’t give him into any kind of relationship. Until he did. Then the chemistry between Hunter and Will became explosive and they could not get enough of one another. Both knows that the other is hiding something and they are not sure if they can trust each other. To make it worst, CIA became involved as well and Hunter needs to play his game very carefully.

Will Rivers is looking a little nerdy. We would assume that all the members of the Rivers family are rough and tough. Will is the exception, he is sweet and well mannered. This is also one of those characters that have a lot of tricks under their belt. He is immensely skilled with a firearm and is able to pull out some lies that would fool anyone. The question is, will he use his skills to help gain control of the family business or to help Peter?

What a treat it was to have Fischer and Zachary back into that book. It was like having a couple of old buddies back with me and that was a real pleasure to welcome them back. We read about Seth in Mr. and Mr. Smith, but this time, he is shining as a supporting character. I was glad to get to know him a little better. I also really liked the question that was unanswered about him in the Talented Mr. Rivers. It is leaving me with a hope that he might be featured in a future book in this series (I sure pray that HelenKay Dimon will choose to continue this amazing adventure).

I definitely recommend this book, it is a must read for anyone that likes some steamy M/M scenes and some great action!

I have to say that I don't know who I liked more, Will or Hunter, they were both great characters and they each brought something unique to the relationship. Hunter is part of the German intelligence that is working with the CIA in order to bring down one of the biggest crime syndicates around, the unfortunate part about that is that it's Will's family (Dad, Brother, and sister). While Will has never had any part of the "family business" he has reaped the rewards of it by attending private schools and having money at his disposal but Will would gladly give it all up to be with Hunter.

This story has a lot of Action packed scenes as well as steamy sexy times. We get to see all the guys from Mr. and Mr. Smith again and dare I say that Fisher and Hunter are actually getting along in this story. I'm curious as to whom will be the next one to get their HEA.....

The Talented Mr. Rivers is the second novel in HelenKay Dimon's End of the Line/Tough Love series. I would recommend reading the first in the series before this one because the plot line follows where the last book left off. You will be seeing a lot of the same characters in this book. This book is about secret agents and a crime family so you can expect there to be some violence. I ended up liking this one a little more than the first one.

Will is the youngest member of the Rivers crime family, and Hunter was hired to be his bodyguard by the family. Right away there is a lot of sexual tension between the characters. Will doesn't trust Hunter and knows he is hiding something. What he doesn't know is that Hunter is a secret agent that is trying to take down his family. Hunter also doesn't trust Will because he is unsure if Will is like his family.

I thought the suspense in the story was well written and I had a hard time putting it down. I really ended up loving these two together. There was a lot of chemistry, which made for some steamy scenes, but it I thought the suspense and love story was balanced really well. There wasn't too much of either. Hunter was really protective of Will and you could feel his struggle of trying to remember his mission versus his growing feelings for Will. There were also a few times that I wanted to shake Hunter for being a big dummy. lol! There were so many moments when I wanted to scream, "Just talk to each other!".

Lightning review at Smart Bitches, Trashy Books

The Talented Mr. Rivers by HelenKay Dimon is the second book in her m/m romantic suspense series End of the Line. The series uses a powerful criminal enterprise, The Pentasus Organization, and the family who runs it, the Riverses, as its focal point. This book opens up after the events of Mr. and Mr. Smith when the Rivers family has suffered serious set backs and is on the run.

This series is about shifting alliances, double agents and falling for a person you don’t know if you can trust. All of that is 100% Elyse catnip. Plus there are some incredibly hot sex scenes and it’s more action movie romantic suspense than serial killer romantic suspense, all things I love.

I would suggest that this series be read in order. By itself The Talented Mr. Rivers would lack the context and world-building that Mr. and Mr. Smith provides and might feel under developed.

This book is also a quick, action-packed read–so if you’re looking for something fast, fun and sexy, I’d highly recommend it.

I'm enjoying this series more and more.

The characters of Hunter and Will were not of any interest to me from their small parts in book 1 and I wasn't sure if I would be into their own book. I'm glad I gave it a chance.

The unlikely couple of and undercover agent posting as a bodyguard and the is-he-good-or-is-he-bad youngest son to a crime family had some really strong chemistry and the UST was off the charts.

As happened in the first book, there was lots of action and danger and intrigue...and sex. All much enjoyed by this reader!

I think I might have preferred not having Will's POV and only Hunter's. Then the suspense, and Hunter's own doubts if Will was good or bad, would have been a stronger angle for the story.

Overall, entertaining. Looking forward to book 3.

I received this copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. Let's go :D

The Story

Will Rivers should be the poster guy for “flight of fight”. Born into a family of bloodthirsty and murderous people, all he ever wanted was to escape his family and his fate. After the CIA exploded his brother’s house on England, Will knows that his time is up and he must make a choice: to finally engage on The Pentasus, one of the most dangerous criminal organizations of the world, as one of the rightful heirs or to kill his own identify and never look back. It seems a pretty easy choice if you remove Hunter, his bodyguard, of the equation. Will can’t see his happily ever after without Hunter on it, but which side is he on? Will knows that he can trust Hunter with his life, but what about his heart…?

Hunter should be the poster guy for “the most fucked up person of the year”. After agreeing to help Fisher, Zach, Seth and other agents of the CIA to bring down the Pentasus, his life as an undercover bodyguard at the Rivers’ state turned upside down. He lost the good graces of the German intelligence – his actual employer – and is almost sure that his cover was blown with the Rivers. To make things worse, the only person that could help him to finish his mission and bury the Pentasus is missing: Will, the younger River’s sibling and his charge. Hunter won’t rest until Will is safe and sound again, no matter what CIA, BSD or anyone says. The question is: Hunter is doing this for the sake of the mission or for the sake of his heart?

The Analysis
Just remembering that those were my impressions and opinion as a reader :)

WHERE DO I BEGIN?! This book was even better than the first! I loved Will and Hunter to the core, they were a great couple! I also love that Will has this nerdy face, but in reality he is a killing machine *--* Oh dear, I always fall for the bad guys… ANYWAY. This book had all the elements that make me love a story. I do have some complaints about it, but nothing that made it less than a 5 stars reading for me <3

The narrative is third person with switching points of view between Hunter and Will. This is my favorite style, as we can detach ourselves of the less dear protagonist if needed. Not the case on this book, as I loved Hunter from the first book, in which he has an important role, but wasn’t a main character, and Will grew on me instantly. On the end, I was totally team Will, haha! The writing style also is very good, as Dimon writes each character with such a strong will and mind that you can know whose side of the story you are reading way before names appear. Also, Hunter and Will’s story had a very different vibe from Fisher and Zach’s story and that is pretty amazing! <3 Also, Dimon’s humor is very natural and easy to follow along, as both men say stupid things without realizing and then make fun of each other for that – just like you and me! I feel like anything from her that I put my hands on will work greatly <3

The plot was a bit obvious, but I have to admit that I didn’t start my read engrossed on the mystery, haha! I wanted a good action/adventure/romance book with great chances of a sort of happy ending. Also, both Hunter and Will overthink a lot. Like, seriously, it was tiresome in several parts. I get it, they both needed to build trust and blah blah blah, but I felt that Dimon overdramatized several parts without necessity. I would have been happier if they had argued more, talked more. ANYTHING BUT OVERTHINKING. You don’t need to keep repeating why you can’t be together, guys!

The characters are the most brilliant point of this book. Not only Hunter and Will, but everyone that makes an appearance is so well constructed, so real <3 Seriously, Dimon is one of those authors who manages to build a character in your head without you realizing it. When you look, there they are, waving at you as if they had been there the whole time! But my favorite is Will. EVERYONE underestimates him. And then Will goes and kicks everybody’s ass, Hunter included. He is very reasonable, but don’t step on this toes. Will may not be bloodthirsty, but he wouldn’t even blink before breaking a few bones ;D

As it goes for Hunter, his name should be incarved on the dictionary, to define “trust issues”. No matter how many times Will proved himself, Hunter always had a suspicion. Needless to say, it got old, hahaha!

Now let’s talk about stuff I didn’t really like, haha!

We didn’t have enough time to understand Peter, Will’s older brother. The guy was sick on a whole new level, haha! I kind of wished we had known more of him before the end :( I think it would have been a good “woow” material, haha! I also wished that we had seen more jealous scenes between Fisher and Will, haha! Zach, Fisher’s boyfriend, slept hard with Hunter in the past and this had so much potential to generate fun scenes… Almost totally overlooked :( And the last thing: a freaking open end. I don’t really know what will become of Will and Hunter, how they will manage their future! I HATE OPEN ENDS OMG!

The good thing is that I have many reasons to hope for another book in this series, thanks to all this openness, haha! Now we will take a moment to appreciate this beautiful cover that The Talented Mr. Rivers possesses, haha! <3

Allright, just to wrap this: do you like Action? Adventure? Hot guys? Hot guys with a very active sexual life? Geeks that can kill? TONS OF BEAUTIFUL MEN? THEN STOP READING THIS AND GO READ THE END OF THE LINE SERIES!

Once again, thanks to Loveswept for sending me my review copy and to you, for being so patient and reading this whole review! You are the true hero here <3

I was anxious for this one! The setup for these two in the first book had me hoping they'd get their story told. And what a story it was!

Fuck protocol! Hunter needed to find Will after the explosive ending to book 1. Regardless of what he was probably supposed to be doing this was his main focus.

Funny, it was Will's too.

This was exciting and the pages turned really fast.

I loved getting to see the team again but there was one missing and I was sad about that.

I think my favorite thing about this series is watching these super tough guys fall and do it scared out of their minds. It's beautiful.

On to the next one!

Review:

This is the second book of this series. If you have not read Mr. and Mr. Smith go get the book and one click it now. I made the mistake of reading this book first and although I wasn’t lost, this book made more sense after I read book 1. This series is full of action as well as hot romantic encounters. The plot of this book continues where Mr. and Mr. Smith leave off. The focus is on Will Rivers, the youngest son of the head of the Pentasus organization. Will has kept away from the criminal activity of the family run business. After the explosion that took the life of his older half sister and father, there is a power struggle between Will’s half brother Peter and other forces trying to take over Pentasus. Bodyguard and undercover German intelligence officer Hunter Cain has made it his business to keep Will safe. The chemistry between Will and Hunter is pretty hot. There is more that Hunter would like to do to Will’s body besides guarding it, and the feeling is mutual between Will and Hunter. This is also a fast paced, high action story with some violence. Great ending. I hope there is more to this series. There is some flashbacks giving us insight to these characters making them more relatable.

Once again Dimon offers another amazing M/M story which grabs your heart and makes it shore. I will never get tired of reading her irresistible guy relationships because they have a passion and beauty I can't resist.

The Talented Mr. Rivers is the second installment in the Tough Love series and although it can be read as a standalone, it's not recommend it. It contains some moments and info from the first book, Mr. And Mr. Smith, and though they are explained, it's better if you know them first hand. Besides, the story of Fisher and Zach in the first is also amazing and it would be a shame not to be read. But let's get back to the couple at hand; Hunter & Will. Here's the deal between these two. Will Rivers is one of the heirs of a criminal family and Hunter Cain is the undercover agent who plays his bodyguard. The attraction between them has begun before even than and keeps growing no matter the problems shown in the way. So, after one of these problems arose, these two had to go on separate paths which recross again further down. And that's where everything started volute pretty quickly giving them no time to breathe; but plenty to get intimate and hot ;)

If Hunter wanted to stake a claim, this did it.

Both Will and Hunter are two very tortured souls with a very tough upbringing. And they may be quite different but that's what is makes their connection even stronger and their love even more consuming. And just like any other couple, they don't get away easily from dealing with Life and her sometimes bitchiness. But they never subconsciously give up on each other and, along with the help of some significant characters, always get to find their way back to each other because as Hunter once said "I knew we were meant to be."

The plot is even more intense than the first one's. I can't say exactly what that was but it had something in it that made my heart raising like crazy. And, as for their erotic scenes? Well, I kind of felt them on my skin and my emotions varied after the end of each scene since as the story was progressing, so they did, adding each time a different, strong feeling in the mix.

HelenKay Dimon is a quite new author to me but her writing and her mind has already captivated me and I rarely I will walk away from one of her books. Until now, both her books I have read have left me with the best impressions and I can't wait to see which couple will add next in the series. I hope like h*ll to be Seth because he is one of those secondary characters who intrigues you more than the lead ones. I bet his story will be even more passionate and goosebumping. ;)

First and foremost, this can easily be read as a standalone novel. I did not read the first book in the series (Mr. and Mr. Smith), and that didn’t affect my understanding of this story at all. In fact, as I met the intriguing MCs from the first book during this one, I decided I’m going to have to go back and read book one purely for the pleasure of witnessing how those outwardly tough and aloof men met and fell in love.

In this story, when we first meet Will Rivers, he’s finally exposing his location to his former bodyguard, Hunter Cain, after Will’s family home was torched and destroyed. By that point we know Hunter is a badass secret agent working for Germany’s BND and has been searching for Will ever since the fire, but we aren’t aware of the layers that make up the complex man who is Will.

Ostensibly the pampered, intelligent, and protected youngest child of the Rivers family, Will is so much more. He’s sharp as a tack, witty, and highly knowledgeable about his family’s operation, even though he’s managed to maintain the distance required to keep his sanity and stay out of the way of his power-seeking brother and sister. Since she died in the fire, it’s her protégé, a man named Gatt, along with Will’s brother, Peter, who are the true dangers, and Will is afraid he’ll be used as a pawn in their battle to take over the family business. Not only does he need Hunter—he trusts him.

This story is full of danger and intrigue with more twists and turns in the plot than the Yellow Brick Road. Who’s friend? Who’s foe? Will and Hunter cling to the hope that they aren’t making a huge mistake by trusting each other, but it’s inevitable that there will be doubt. Throw in CIA agents and former protagonists, and this story was never boring—not for a moment. Confusing sometimes? Yes (and some of that is due to my own personal brain overload). But boring? No way.

I don’t want to discourage anyone from reading it. It’s fast-paced action adventure that gets pretty darn exciting. Thrown in a bit of romance and it’s win-win as far as I’m concerned. I highly recommend it to those who enjoy their MM couples to be involved in danger and intrigue.

Being a criminal is all in the interpretation when it comes to Will Rivers. He is one of the remaining children of a crime lord. He's trying to find his footing after he escapes being killed. When Hunter finds him again, Will is sent into a tailspin. This open secret of Hunter being one of the good guys undercover as a bad guy is a bit amusing. It is a little side tangent which enhances the chemistry between Will and Hunter. For Hunter to be so by the book, especially with his tortured past and fractured family history, to move to the "dark side", it is quite a feat. Is Will's ass that enticing that he can convert Hunter to be bad?

This story is all sorts of messed up. Messed up as far as a train wreck in relationship and daddy issues. The dark story is filled with back stabbing, betrayals and questionable loyalties. Ms. Dimon clearly conveys how difficult it is live in this world. Who can be trusted? If someone protected you as a child, does it mean they will continue to do so when you are an adult? Is a person completely evil? There are no good guys here. There are just varying shades of not so bad. It is depressing to realize yet there is hope when Will and Hunter find love.

This story reminds me of the Bourne Identity movie series. It does have a lovely European feel which I enjoy. The action scenes keep the story moving along. The sex scenes are bittersweet as they start out sexy and end with a sour taste. This m/m romantic suspense is recommended for those who enjoy dark and angsty starcross lover themes.

My Review:
Hunter and Will...hmm, yes, I did love them. Seriously, how can you not love a star crossed lovers when one is an undercover government agent and the other is part of the organization he's trying to take down. There's a ton of angst and no one knows who they can trust which makes for some great suspenseful reading.

I love Hunter and Will. From the first moment they are on the page, it's so obvious how much emotion and unquenched sexual lust there is between them. Will's entire life is in upheaval though and everyone is trying to kill him...so he's hard pressed to trust anyone, which is a smart way to be. Even though they both know this is the worst timing in the world, neither can resist the pull to the other. Chemistry...this book has it on almost every page....and that makes it such a great read.

While I loved the sparks between Hunter and Will, I also loved the three other guys who played into this story. Of course, Fisher and Zach from the first book were amazing, but hands-down my favorite was Seth. I'm really, really hoping he'll get his own book, too.

This is a romantic suspense and it's hard to predict how it's all going to turn out despite knowing exactly who all the players are and who to watch out for.

Overall, I just really enjoyed reading this book and am definitely looking forward to more.
