Cam Peterson was only trying to protect herself, and her would-be rapist ended up dead. It’s an act she’s regretted ever since. After serving her time, she’s returned home to claim her grandmother’s estate and a fresh start. Once there, she finds the town of Sweet Briar is not that forgiving. She can’t find a job, the local cops enjoy harassing her and her estranged mother is trying to take away her inheritance, The only bright spot is Laci, the girl next door. The sparks have started flying and they can’t keep their hands off each other. But Laci has dark secrets of her own. Secrets that might just kill them both.
3.5 Stars. This book was pretty explicit, sexually and violent. I’ll even add a trigger warning for a violent attempted rape. It’s in flashbacks but still it was pretty jarring. I read a lot of mystery crime books so violence doesn’t really bother me but I could see how this might not be for everyone.
This is about a woman Cam who is out of jail after 5 years, for killing her attempted rapist. She is trying to start her life over and can’t help but notice her attractive next door neighbor. Cam is doing everything she can to stay out of jail, but when a local police officer just happens to be the brother of the man she killed, Cam knows she might be in serious trouble.
I don’t know what it is but I seem to like ex-con books, especially when there is a romance involved. No idea why, just maybe that overcoming adversity type thing. It’s why I decided to give this a chance. This book is on the shorter side, and I think because of that, Daniels rushed the two mains into bed together. I wish she would have waited. The sex scenes are explicit, but I wouldn’t call them steamy, almost more down and dirty if that makes any sense.
I thought the characters overreacted at times, and I thought it was overly violent at times too, but something about this kept me reading. This is not a book that I would recommend to everyone; I know some people won’t like this. This is not a sweet fluffy romance at all, but it kind of hooked me in anyway. This is currently available on Kindle Unlimited.
Mish Daniels has written this most Amazing, Fantastic, Wondwerful. Outstanding story! I read it all at once, I could't put it down. The only time i did was to cook dinner and say goodnight to my Grandson. When he came in, my room was pitch black and I couldn't see him. I didn't even notice it had gotten dark out. That is how engrossed I was with this book. Camille had to do time for a crime she didn't really do. It was self-defense. She did her time and was released. She had no place to go but her Gran's house. People of course had to talk and stare at her. You see her felon happened in this town. But Cam did't let it get to her and she found a job. Laci is Cam's next door neighbor and very sexy. Cam decided to test the waters with Laci one day and was very surprised. The author covered their love making in a very tastfull way. If you are not into F/F, like I'm not really, it won't offend you in any way. At points I envyed their relationship. When Mack came into the picture and was harassing Cam, I could see that happening in real life. But when Laci told Cam that she left her boyfriend because she is a Lesbain, I thought some how Mack or his brother fit in there. Mack was brutal and from chapter 13 on I think I just held my breath. My heart went out to Cam and Laci. The Epiloque took me by surprise and I grinned from ear to ear in sheer delite. It showed that love will win in the end! There is much more I would like to say about this book, but I would be giving away to much. This story is full of surprises, love, friendship. There is Domestic Violence in this story and unfortunately in todays society, this goes on a lot. It may be a little hard to read for some. But all in all, I absolutely Loved this book and would highly recamend it. If you or someone you know is involved with Domestic Violence, please call The National Domestic Violence Hotline 24/7 @ 1-800-799-SAFE (7233) or 1-800-787-3224 (TTY), it may save a life!
This book surprised me. I love orange is new black and big fan of female prisioners any book. This book starts with MC prision story and that sucked me in. I just loved that little part. The last part was good too. Writing was good to the point but i guess jack of all and ace of none. Many good things were juggled but i guess a good writter do not need so many spices to create something memorable. Overall thanks to the writer for being little tough because i started to feel thats it this is what i was looking for to something ordinary.

Release Me is the story of Cam, a woman who has just gotten out of prison for a wrongful conviction and has inherited her beloved grandmother's house, her only home after her she came out to her parents as a teen. Ready to start her life over on the straight and narrow, she hopes to put the past behind her but a cop harassing her, a busy body neighbor trying to turn the town against her and her mysterious neighbor that she can't seem to get out of her head.
From the synopsis I thought this was going to be more romatic suspense but it turned out to be more of a romantic erotica with obstacles standing in the way of Cam and Laci's love. I did like the storyline and Cam's character, I really felt for her and all the horror she had been dealt. It was definitely well written, the prose really flowed, I felt like I had just started reading when I looked down and had seen I was 80% through it.

•••NOT for the homophobic, transphobic, closedminded, or faint of heart!•••
This book seems to be a stand alone novel.
Cam got a bad shake when she ended up in jail for defending herself against her would be rapist. Now the only person who has ever mattered to her is dying and she can't even be there for her. How will she survive jail? Is there even anything left for her on the outside? Can she get past this and make a life for herself? Or is she just a lost cause like her parents want her to believe?
This was an amazing book filled with romance and suspense. I really enjoyed it alot. I can't wait to read more from this author!
***This book is suitable for adult readers who enjoy romantic suspense thrillers with mild lesbian erotica and a fulfilling HEA :)
This was a quick read but boy, been a long time since I experienced so many emotions in that short of time! First of all, Cami was fantastic. I seriously felt for her all through the story. The storyline is quick paced yet you get just the right amount of background and character building in just the right spots. While some of it is predictable, I do have to say that other parts were a complete surprise and that always makes the journey all the more exciting. This was my first reading of this author but based on her style, ability to weave a quick paced story and believable characters, I will certainly be reading more. Oh, and do I have to say - the little bit of sex was very descriptive and left you tingling in all the right places! Highly recommend!
Explicitly violent, but written in such a way that it kept me reading 'til the end. Can't really explain why. Maybe because like Cam, I simply can't see any other solution but to barrel through..
I'll want to read another story from this author to forge my opinion on their writing.
The engaging plot was developed & progressed at just the right rate, drawing you in so subtly without you even noticing, that it's progression feels believably genuine & possible— even in its unbelievable HEA.
I skipped the rape flashback and still didn't enjoy this one. There's something about Cam's voice that irritated me. At one point there's a reference to Laci's honey hole or some such, I don't recall the exact phrase, and I just couldn't.
Women suffer because of our patriarchal society. Women have always had to fight for whatever they are entitled to whether it's equal pay, fair treatment or simply the right to love the person of their choice. This story is empowering because in spite of the man-made abuse that the characters endured they more than survived the homophobic drama. The issues brought their relationship to a whole new level. Also, Gran told Cam, "Forgive what you can, forget what you can't." Excellent advice!
This was a pretty good book, I had a hard time putting it down.
Note because of Amazon Genre On Amazon it is listed in the Genre of Transgender Romance... The only part of the book that even mentions someone possibly being transgender is in the very beginning about a very secondary character. No romantic feelings appear to be involved there. So if you are reading with the expectation or hope that one of the main characters is TG then you shall be disappointed.
