London Girls: Mad Love / Laura's Big Break

Rate this book
Two best friends. Two happy ever afters. Two London Girls.

Mad Love - London Girls, Book 1

Madeline Lewis wants to be the next big thing in something - anything. She is tired of failure, although to be fair she does cause most of it. When she decides to start a butler service for busy London executives, she needs a guinea pig and a recommendation. There's only one place Maddie can turn for help - her big brother's best friend. Dean has been in Maddie's life so long the woman pretty much treats him like wallpaper. He'd tired cleaning up Maddie's messes, he's tired of being the sensible one and he's tired of being invisible. Maddie might be confused about what she wants out of life, but Dean knows exactly what he wants - Madeline Lewis. And he won't stop until he gets her.

Laura's Big Break - London Girls, Book 2

Laura needs to interview the hero of the moment to keep her new job with one of London's top women's magazine. She'd rather stick a fork in her eye. Twelve years have passed since her disastrous one night stand with Charlie and they've barely exchanged two civil words in all that time. If it wasn't for the fact his sister was Laura's best friend, she wouldn't go anywhere near the Neanderthal.

Charlie has come back from a stint in Afghanistan with a souvenir - nightmares. Nightmares that only seem to go away after an argument with Laura. The bad tempered little witch is so terrifying she can even scare away the horrors of war. After he's done laughing at her request for an interview, he surprises them both by agreeing to do it - for a price. She has to accompany him on a two week cycling holiday in Holland. He figures putting up with her during the day is worth it if he can get some sleep at night. Oh yeah, and the fact Laura hates the outdoors and despises him, is just icing on the cake!

A NOTE FROM THE AUTHOR

These two books are the first romance novels I ever wrote and they're very dear to my heart. Laura's Big Break was the first book I won an award for - the Romance Writers of America's Silken Sands Award - and that was a huge encouragement at the time. It's also a book that brings back some great memories for me. It's set in Holland, where I lived after I met my Dutch husband. A lot of the experiences I had during that time, especially the ones where I screwed up learning to cycle, are shared by Laura in this story. At the end of the book - don't worry, no spoilers - she also visits Bolivia, another country I've worked and lived in and love dearly. So yeah, Laura's Big Break has a lot of personal experience woven into the tale.

As for Mad Love, Dean has always been one of my favorite heroes. He's so dedicated to Maddie, so in love with her, that it blows me away to think about it. The way he encourages her and delights in her craziness are attributes I think all men should have - that and his six pack! And yeah, London is another place I've lived. What can I say? I get around!

So there you have it. My first two books in one handy volume. I really hope you enjoy reading them!

Janet grew up in Scotland but now lives in New Zealand. Among other things, she’s been an artist, a teacher, a security guard at a castle, a magazine editor, and a cleaner in a drop in center for drug addicts (NOT the best job!). When she isn’t living in her head and writing about the people she finds there, she raises two kids, one husband, and several random animals. She survives on chocolate and caffeine.

Mad Love-3 stars-Maddie treats Dean as her best friend, since he's her brother's best friend. Dean has loved her since they were kids.
So, when she comes up with another cooky business idea, he uses her services as an assistant to his advantage and tries to get her to fall in fall in love with him.
Maddie doesn't know what's happening as she starts seeing Dean in a new light. But, she gives in to her desire, and realizes she's loved him all along. Unfortunately, she hears about his plans to seduce her and there's a mess for him to clear up.
Really light, fun story, with great characters and lovely scenes all over London.

The Big Break-4 stars-Laura is sensible, logical, and, according to Charlie, boring. He's too immature and full of himself in the beginning, but as they spend time together, Laura sees his depth and falls in love, again, with him.
Charlie doesn't quite know what to make of his attraction to Laura, but has listened to her advice in his life and grown up a lot, made good decisions, because of her. He figures out he loves her in the end.
He thinks she wants him to settle down in suburbia, but she follows him after standing up for herself in her job and with her mother.
Sweet, with some serious bits and hilarity at the end.

Kind of cute. They should turn these into movies for the Women's Channel.

Great story

Love that both of these characters are strong people. Butting heads and struggling to work out how to get along, only to find love.
